It's common for mountain peaks to have a thing indicating the top. It may be there to signify reaching the top together. In the "making of" video for this, the director noted that the little metal plate the guys were chiseling into while they were in the tent is a nod to a mountaineer practice of essentially creating a memorial marker out of their tin plates. The fact that they are doing it at all shows that they don't think Till's character will live

Yes, the cross on mountain tops is a tradition and very common in the Alps. It is called "Gipfelkreuz" in German - the "Mountain top cross". The fact that it is a cross comes from the saying that this is the spot of the mountain where you are most close to god/heaven.

the emotional message in the video is very important; Ohne dich shows unity in the band.
Richard said that the most important thing is to stick together, everything else is irrelevant.

I think the following are the popular interpretations of the song, toxic relationship, drug withdrawal and the band sticks together till the end. FYI, in German we have a grammatical gender. The door, the fir tree, the drug, the language etc. are all female words, with a female article and if you refer to them in a later sentence, you have to use a female pronoun (like her). Therefore, when I have seen *her* last, can technically refer to any female word... Does not work in an english translation quite well because everything besides people is an *it*.

Yes, also the band. Most people think it's about the cohesion of the band. They changed a lot after that. 😍

This gets a like for the cat alone. ;) Also nice to see that people still enjoy Rammstein's older songs upon hearing them for the first time. One thing their music regularly gets described as is "timeless" - and it is.

In Europe it is quite common that the peaks of mountains have a cross on top. Usually there is also a box with a notebook inside, so that you can sign in, as part of an achievement. The tinplate Oliver was working on, was a nod to those, who went up the Himalaya as Richard remarks in the Making-Of. This is also used to mark your presence, but also to remember those, who did not make it back from there.

The song for me represents friendship, heartache and loss.
The cross at the end is death, and the fire that blew out means that everything comes to an end.
Rammstein are together for over 20 years, they even had a therapist so they can talk to each other, you know over the years relationships change dramatically and it gets easier to lose touch.imagine 6 different people trying to communicate and create their craft successfully.
Thank you for your honest reaction
    ❤️

Love it! So touching. (and he dead yeah, the cross just means it's the summit, lots of crosses on summits)

Hi you. Nice reaction, as usual. To most fans it basically means the same you mentioned. It's about the heartache of a failed relationship. The video is about friendship.
In the Alps you see these crosses quite often. Even thou Joern Heitmann (Director) rather head the himalayan in mind while shooting the. video.
A die- hard Rammstein fan asked Till in a meet& great event what he thought of when he wrote the lyrics. And Till said, it's about drug withdrawal.
I like the slow heaviness and the heartfelt lyrics of the song. Perfect for a cold gray, cloudy day in November. As always with love from Germany 😎🤘

Oh, wow. The withdrawals makes sense too. I even said maybe a codependency in a relationship, in that case, drugs. Thank you for that! And thank you for being awesome and checking it out! I did "Puppe". I'll post it either tomorrow or the next day!

amazing song !!! talking about how strong their relationship is ❤
there are so many songs to react. I first met them in the 90s when they gave two songs in a movie called lost highway. they stole my heart in a minute!!!
you can react to du hust live in paris. ich will live hurricane festival but with lyrics it's important!!! keep going👍

Loved this reaction! Very astute observations of lyric content! Not only does Till write lyrics/songs w meaning...its often with language or words that have duality. To allow for individual interpretations.

For the video, the band members grew beards, because in the mountains there is no time to shave. Flake was the only one to have an artificial one
During the making of, Till can be seen wearing a shirt which makes fun of Flake and his beard.

in the scene where they show Till and his gangrene feet.. originally the director wanted to show that Till had suffered internal injuries but wasn't sure how to show that so they went with showing he had really bad gangrene.

Thank you for the great video! Contrary to popular belief this is not a love song nor one to grief a lost beloved person. It is rather an ingenious way to show the absolute harshness of our path to finally find our Snow white/Penelope/Eve=our soul, our essence, which is directly linked to our higher self and has all the knowledge.
    Symbolisms everywhere,
The forest is the cosmic egg and the tree we now live in is the tree of knowledge of good and evil, which we were warned not to enter.
6 men, number 6 representing the carbon12-based matter, water creek flowing, water representing emotional fluctuations (decoding Poseidon), rock mountain climbing representing going over low vibration consciousness.
Without our soul we are an empty can. With her, time, which is a deterioration unit, does not have such power, but just the flesh.
But the highlight is the mountain top Cross..
Time to really study and analyse ourselves what Jesus really said beyond (all) religions and priesthoods. Liberation is guaranteed.
Think about it. By asking questions to yourselves. Answers will come, trust me. But don't judge where they come from, keep your spirit open.
Pardon my english, not a native speaker.
A similar meaning song is also Sonne.
Thank you again for the video!

the cross was put there by some jesus cultists long before. Don't thing it has a deeper meaning than "manking it to the top "

It can be about friendship, Lost love, breakups, the band breaking up, drug adiction... I always think about Till's relationship with Richard, who almost broke up the band in part because of his drug adiction. Till was probably the only one by his side by then... Out of loyalty and love, but Till was also loyal to the band and the rest of the guys. It must have been hard

I didn't know any of that. The more I learn about Till, the more I admire him as a human being and not just a musician.

@@NORSEVIKING He was also a single dad for a few years, raising his daughter alone. That actually tells you that "stage persona" and private persona aren't always the same thing.

The song revolves around nothing more than group cohesion until death.
The rest is poetry that describes that. It's not about birds and trees. When birds no longer sing, it means death or emptiness.

Well this video was shot in Tyrol/Austria called Pitztaler Gletscher and there all peaks have a cross on it, or at least nearly all. This cross however, was now replaced by a new one and this one is a bit further down the Mountain. I do not remember, why they put it up, I only know, that it is a Roman Catholic area. I am from there, but I am not such a "believer" anymore as I was as a child. Since years I see this only as "another propaganda" and with all the stuff which happened at this "religion". Well, have a look at Halleluja, then you know why I am not "that catholic anymore". Here is the link and when Rammstein sings it, it has nothing to do with that one from Leonard Cohen: ruclips.net/video/AdLQchLiNRQ/видео.html It is also one with the lyrics of educatedmarine. Thanks for the reaction.

I'm going to go into the fir trees
There where I last saw her
But the evening is throwing a cloth upon the land
and upon the ways behind the edge of the forest
And the forest it is so black and empty
    Woe is me, oh woe
And the birds sing no more
    Without you I cannot be
    Without you
With you I am alone too
    Without you
Without you I count the hours without you
With you the seconds stand still
    They aren't worth it
On the branches in the ditches
it's now silent and without life
And breathing becomes oh so hard for me
    Woe is me, oh woe
And the birds sing no more
    Without you I cannot be
    Without you
With you I am alone too
    Without you
Without you I count the hours without you
With you the seconds stand still
They aren't worth it without you
    Without you
And breathing becomes oh so hard for me
    Woe is me, oh woe
And the birds sing no more
    Without you I cannot be
    Without you
With you I am alone too
    Without you
Without you I count the hours without you
With you the seconds stand still
They aren't worth it without you
    Without you
