    Some people say that Kobe copied MJ. I have 2 things to say to that:
    1. Kobe did add some things to his game. Learning from great players isn't a bad thing either.
    2. If you're able to copy what MJ does, that's not something many people can do.

    Phil Jackson:
    "One of the biggest differences between the two stars from my perspective was Michael's superior skills as a leader.. Though at times he could be hard on his teammates, Michael was masterful at controlling the emotional climate of the team with the power of his presence. Kobe had a long way to go before he could make that claim. He talked a good game, but he'd yet to experience the cold truth of leadership in his bones, as Michael had (Jackson noted the "pronounced" difference in their accuracy, Jordan shooting almost 50% - an "extraordinary figure" - while Bryant had been at 45%). No question, Michael was a tougher, more intimidating defender. He could break through virtually any screen and shut down almost any player with his intense, laser-focused style of defense."

      Yeah but Kobe was closer still what's makes Bryant unique is that he shouldn't be in top 25 players but this dude wasn't an athletic freak like LeBron or Mj he doesn't have a good shooting efficiency like Curry or Durant but the fact he achieved all of these awards and the fact his ability to adapt in some Jordan ways makes Kobe's career better in terms of reaching beyond limits. Kobe Bryant isn't as gifted with basketball like LeBron or Mj in no shape or form but the fact he could find other ways to make you remember him makes him a different legend compared to LeBron or Mj and that's why in some people's Kobe did what Mj or LeBron couldn't do and that's take more L's and missed shots and still be the best scorer in today's game even though he wasn't the best of the best at his craft but a little above average. Oh and his footwork and versatile scoring made him more competitive like Michael but in another way.

      True Hero Lebron deserves to be in the conversation IMO. I know most people dismiss this with his finals record. But many fail to realise that basketball is a team sports. His team lost the finals 4 times. Not him alone. Since it is a debate on who's the greatest PLAYER. Lebron is definitely up there. Dude can give you anything. Triple double if he wants to. Scoring title if he wants to. A facilitator. Big and fast. Can defend 1-4 or even 5. Adding him into a team makes that team a playoff team instantly. Even a championship contender. The fact that he carried 2 shitty cleveland teams to the finals proves it. If u add kobe, a playoff team maybe. A finals team? i dont think so. Dont get me wrong im not saying lebron is better than kobe. Kobe is much better mentally and his scoring skills are insane. 1 on 1 kobe and MJ would beat lebron. Im just saying lebron is in the conversation and that we should not put him down only cuz majority hates him and they overlook him.

Kobe Bryant wants to be and is a carbon copy of Michael Jordan, THE ORIGINAL MICHAEL JORDAN, might I add.... Kobe Bryant wants that 6th ring so hie ultimate goal of trying to match JORDAN is complete.

    Bryant's fade-away is a bit different than Jordan's. Here's my observation:
    1. The base form: Jordan fades with legs bent more, whereas Bryant's legs are more straight.
    2. The upper form: Bryant rises his shoulders more, so his neck looks shorter when he fades, whereas Jordan's shoulders seem more relaxed.
    3. The kick: Bryant kicks more than Jordan, i.e. his right leg goes farther than Jordan.
    4. The power: Bryant seems to exert more power in his fades, whereas Jordan seems to exert less power. So I have to agree when Phil Jackson said that Jordan is stronger than Bryant.
    5. Vertical: Jordan has higher vertical than Bryant.
    6. The angle: Jordan's shooting angle is close to 45 degree whereas Bryant's shot is flatter (perhaps around 40 degree.) FYI, Sports Science proved that the most effective & efficient shooting angle in basketball is 45 degree.
    I like Bryant's fade-away form better because of the straight legs, but overall, Jordan's fade-aways are more efficient & more difficult to defend than Bryant's.
    I also agree that Michael Jordan is the greatest of all time.
    Oh, and this comes from a Kobe's fan :-)

      It's because Jordan's vert was higher that Kobe has a higher release point (thus the shoulders lifting). He needs to in order to shoot over defenders. Jordan just rose above them like Westbrook does so he can have a quicker and lower release (more relaxed shoulders). However this gave Kobe more range. He could hit Curry distance three's with perfect form almost identical to Curry's. It just wasn't accepted back then so he didn't practiced it but he could've gotten it down I'm certain of it.

    I've always emphasized that 2003 was Kobe's greatest year. That was the only year that we saw the combination of the athleticism of a young Kobe, merged with the jumpshot and craftiness of older Kobe.
    His knee surgery during the 2003 off-season really hampered his athleticism going forward. He was never really the same athletically after. You still saw bursts of what he had from '98-03, but he could never sustain it like he did before. If you study game tape, you can clearly see a difference in the way Kobe moved, dribbled, and drove the ball before '03, and after '03.
    I do wish we would've gotten to see his pre-surgery athleticism a bit more. It was the closest we ever got to a '91 Michael Jordan.

    Kobe is a phenomenal talent, once in a lifetime player, as seen by his final performance against Utah with 60 and the game winning shot with 30 seconds to go. Hands down my favorite all time player, no question. But one specific area where Michael always had the edge that I think is often overlooked are his hands. Michael had huge hands, allowing him to be more creative with the ball with one hand, whether in the air or off the dribble. Kobe has relatively small hands for a 6'6 individual, and if you notice, can barely palm the ball when going up for a dunk. He basically cups it most of the time, or uses two hands. This was an advantage for MJ, but also a slight deterrent in terms of long range shooting, as Kobe has proven to be a better 3 point shooter than Michael.

    • @FirstnameLastname-qb2bg
      @FirstnameLastname-qb2bg 8 лет назад

      That sounds about right about Kobe's hand size because I was thinking the only MJ move I never remember seeing from Kobe is palming the ball and faking a pass. I figured Kobe hands are probably too small for that.

    • @kevindownes9474
      @kevindownes9474 6 лет назад +5

      Yes but Kobe had better touch and feel with the ball and better handles as well. Which are the advantage of smaller hands.

    • @byronstevens8085
      @byronstevens8085 6 лет назад +1

      Technibility I think that's a fair assessment but you also have to remember the game was different back then. There was more of an impetus on 3pt shooting as the years post Jordan flew by. During Jordan's day the post and having a mid range game was superior to any 3pt shooter bc defensive schemes were so aggressive that chances were that you wouldn't shoot well from 3. As the game progressed defense became optional as it is today and more people focused on maximizing the 3pt shot.

      Byron you're wrong about that they didn't emphasize defense against 3pt shots back in the day like they do in today's game. They hammered them in the paint yes but watch some old film and you'll see how much space they give perimeter players. Today's players are simply better shooters who release the ball much more quickly and more accurately. Also, it was only after Kobe's era that the 3pt shot became so prevalent (enter GSW). Kobe's era is the post-MJ era. Basically the league was filled with players who played just like MJ. Kobe did it best. Same as how this new era will be the post-Curry era where all the quick little guards can shoot accurately from range with extremely limited space.

      MJ's sneakers were definitely nice but that's not it for me. When Jordan finally had a team around him and learned how to win, it was a wrap for the rest of the NBA. Had he not gone to play baseball for awhile, he would have gotten into that Bill Russell stratosphere for rings. He almost always seemed to come out on top when he had to...even when every one in the building knew the ball was going to him. That is impressive! When he took over the league, there was NO DOUBT who the ALPHA, BETA, whoever was...MJ.

      I'd have to disagree. I think their shooting is probably about equal. Shot selection: MJ wins hands down. Kobe is a lot more of a ball stopper than MJ was. MJ used to attempt 1-2 moves, and if he didn't find an opening, he passed to a teammate. I've seen Kobe attempt 4-5 moves in multiple possessions making up a full game and rarely saw MJ do that once in a full game even when he had bad teammates in the 80s.
      Most people who think Kobe is better at certain aspects of the game did not see MJ play. Kobe is better at frustrating opponents. MJ was better at striking fear into opponents. That's the only real comparison.

    It is so exhausting to hear people say Kobe copied off of Jordan. As if the Hall of Fame is going to put an asterisk symbol by his name because he patterned his game after Jordan. That's even more reason why Kobe was such a great player, because if you watched Jordan or played against him for years, and then here comes this kid Kobe doing all of the same moves...why can't you stop him? It takes skill and talent to pattern your game after one of the greats.
    No one ever ridicules a race car driver for copying Mario Andretti's driving style or a runningback for copying Barry Sanders moves, or a baseball player who copied Ken Griffey's swing. At the end of the day, the runningback still has to run hard and make people miss. The race car driver still has to manage how he drives the car, and the baseball player still has to have hand-eye-coordination in order to hit the ball. Why can't people just appreciate a great player for their accomplishment? Taking the answers off of someone else's exam is the only copying that should be ridiculed. smdh

    You see the problem is there are a lot of children in here and other places who never saw Jordan play. They've seen a few highlights but nothing concrete, so they assume Kobe was just as good or even better because all they really know is what they've seen of Kobe and they are mesmerized by what they see. Fact is Kobe is no Jordan, it's not an opinion but a proven fact. This coming from a guy who wasn't even a Jordan fan, but I watched both and I have never seen a player as good as Jordan. I have been saying this for years that it would close to impossible for Kobe to be as good as Mike, during the days when ESPN.com had a forum and Shaq and Kobe were together, I had many arguments with Kobe fans that he will never be as good as Jordan. Now so many years later as Kobes career is coming to a close I was proven right. Not to toot my own horn, but there was always some noticeable advantages that Jordan had, for the kids who never saw Jordan play a little education for u young pups. First of all Jordan had quicker feet, which enabled him to stay in front of the guy he was guarding in ways Kobe has had struggles doing, Jordan had quicker and stronger hands which enabled him to get more steals and deflections. He was faster, quicker, stronger, even Phil jackson alluded to these facts. Another thing I want to address is this misconception that Kobe was a better shooter than Mike, totally not true. This is a misperception based on the fact that Kobe makes more difficult acrobatic type jump shots, Jordan wasn't quite as adventurous, but taking tougher shots does not make u a better shooter. Jordan took tough shots too, but he made his shots at a much higher percentage than Kobe. I guarantee u if u check the numbers, Jordan's field goal percentage from the mid range was much higher than Kobes. People think Kobes mid range game was better, but Jordan was deadly at the mid range game where Kobe can be a little erratic. What Kobe has over Jordan is shooting range, Kobe can shoot as far out as maybe 25 feet whilst jordan was about 22 feet, but even Kobes 3 pt shooting wasn't much better than Michaels, they shot almost the same percentage career wise, Kobe taking many more attempts. Stats will show u that Mike was much more efficient, his career fg percentage was basically 50 % when rounded off, Kobe around 45%. So no Kobe never was and never will be a better shooter than Mike. I can go on forever, but to sum this up in quick and simple fashion when combining regular season and playoffs Jordan has 11 mvps to Kobes measly 3. 5 in the regular season for Mike, 6 in the finals. 1 sinking mvp for Kobe in the regular season and 2 finals mvps. Jordan has 10 scoring titles, Kobe 2. Who's really the better scorer? Jordan won defensive player of the year, Kobe never even came close. Jordan won steals titles, Kobe never. Jordan never lost in the finals, Kobe has lost twice in the finals and has laid eggs in the playoffs costing his team in championship games. Jordan never laid an egg in a big game. If we check the stats Jordan beats Kobe in basically every category, and in the playoffs Jordan dominates Kobes statistics even more. There is no debate as to who is better, this is an open and shut case. Have a good 1.

      You forgot to mention that even this Jordan is a more completed player than Kobe is , Kobe was a lot more athletic
      ! A lot more , u see Kobe would take hard shoots because he could find a way to convert the shoot all t easier, and Kobe would also 360 dunk, between the legs, double clutch , and a lot more athletic dunks that Jordan wishes he could do, u see Jordan never threw a 360 or a between the legs he just stayed in the air long and just finished the dunk and the crowd would say " its the best dunk of all time" , however when Kobe would cross up 3 defenders then go behind back then 360 dunk the crowd would say" that a good play!" Not " best play of all time" like they would with Jordan, that states that Kobe has never gotten as much credit as Jordan ever got , and he probably never will, even thoe Kobe has worked much harder than Jordan ever did , and that's another thing that Phil Jackson also said!
      My conclusion is that if Jordan had to restart his career as a rookie , he would never get as far as he got , his moves won't do any matter in the NBA generation that Kobe played , its not about just doing rimgrazer dunks or saying " I'm the greatest of all time " anymore...

      Mark comparto enteramente tu opinión y la verdad el asunto de nunca llegar al nivel de kobe... Honestamente jordan es un jugador con los fundamentos perfectos no necesita ser tan fantoche para dejar ver la calidad que tiene como jugador, fuera benéfico para el empezar en esta era porque anotaría más y lo golpearían menos las reglas del juego han cambiado y echan abajo las cuestiones que en antaño hacían un poco mas rudo el trabajo para un jugador. Si Jordan jugara en esta era anotaría mas puntos por juego porque se la pasaría yendo a la canasta. Pero es mi particular punto de vista.

      Mark Warner You don't know what the hell your talking about. You were right on your earlier points until you said Kobe wasn't a better shooter than Jordan. First of all Phil Jackson said Kobe was a better shooter, so shut that crap up. Kobe holds the record for most 3 pointers made in a single game, while Jordan struggled for most of his career to hit 3 pointers. Kobe took twice as many 3 pointers as Jordan per game and he hit them at a higher percentage as well. These are all verifiable facts if you did any research. Kobe also has hit more mid-range jump shots than any player in NBA History and he hit then at 3-5 percent above the league average. Additionally even in his worse season (which was this year by the way) he still shot better than ANY PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE with shots attempted on contact. This means that when you foul Kobe on a mid-range shot he would hit it better than ANYBODY else in the whole damn league! Kobe is a better shooter than Jordan ever was CASE CLOSED!

      @@ralx225b no offense but you just made all that up bro. Kobe was noway in hell a better midrange shooter than Jordan and his 3pt percentage was almost identical to Jordan's. I suggest you do your research then come back to me and tell me again you were speaking facts. Actually let me do the research for you, don't mean to put you on blast but you asked for it. 😆

    My eyes scream in pain every time a Jordan clip comes on and then they exhale in relief when it's Kobe's turn lol.

    It's so funny, ppl say Phil Jackson won because he had superstars... but WAIT!!! check out how his superstars fare WITHOUT his guidance: MJ 0/7, Pip 0/8, Kobe 0/8, Shaq 1/14. That's freaking 1 title in 36 years of these superstars' careers. IN ADDITION:
    0 finals MVPs in 36 years!! ZERO! From the above facts, it's arguable that MJ, Kobe, would just be another Allen Iverson WITHOUT Phil's coaching. None of these megastars proved that they could win as an alpha male without PJ.

    It looks like Kobe is trying to copy Jordan. The tongue out did not look natural at all on Kobe. Like he was doing it on purpose.
