    I have got to ask, and I will respect either answer because either route makes sense, but does tearing down the eg33 make sense to you for a content point or a desire for POWAAA? I can imagine how much the bluebaru brings traffic for your channel and its constant transformation is keeping us all on the edge of our seats but I am sad to see it not retain the eg33 and live out the rest of its days in that mode. But I know you'll make the correct decision. ✊️

    • @Smeedia
      @Smeedia  5 месяцев назад +1

      It’s financially no longer usable with the track record I’ve had on it. To have to tear down the car every sub 1000 miles for significant issues I just can’t keep doing it. Every tear down minimum costs be $4,000 +
      It’s not so much from a content perspective but a passion one. I wanted to build a car that I enjoyed and could play with. And the EG just took away from that because I was always stressing about it and it never ran optimal for extended periods of time

  • @jasonochoa7876
    @jasonochoa7876 5 месяцев назад +2

    The reason I’m a purist with engines is because I feel like u bought the car for how it drives… so putting another engine in it is making it something it’s not. Like off road Miata’s. BUT, it’s not my car, so even though I wouldn’t do it, I still think it’s cool to do and in many cases more practical (ls engines are a common swap cuz they do so many things right)

  • @johnathanvickrey6217
    @johnathanvickrey6217 5 месяцев назад +5

    I’m not a Subaru purist myself and I definitely don’t think subarus engines are perfect at all but what I think is bothering people about your selection of engine comes down to two things.
    First I think that since your channel is mainly Subaru based, we can all relate to you with it. I bought my 13 Subarus WRX hatch two days before you got yours and watched your videos on it religiously. It helped build a path for me and my WRX as well as let me see what could be accomplished with stuff out of my price range(I’m a broke college student). It made it so I could live through you with with upgrades I couldn’t do yet. So once you move away from Subaru stuff I lose alittle bit of that connection.
    Second reason I feel is the whole American V8 has been sadly done so much that it’s not very interesting to watch anymore. compared to Subarus 4 cylinders it makes tons more power(as it should with 2x the displacement) and can handle power better(also as it should because they weigh a lot), but I’ve never watched you hoping you’d become the fastest Subaru on youtube. The V8 swap has lost its charm to me not because it fails at performance but more because it’s no long the cutting edge or pinnacle of upgrades anymore.
    I know you have to grow your channel by keeping thing moving and new, and eventually you’d outgrow Subarus for the most part, but similar to how Rob Dahm is with rotary’s I felt you were the same with subi motors(not quite mad scientist levels yet like rob😂). Either way you go I’ll keep watching, but I really hope it’s a Porsche flat 6 because that’ll be the best of both worlds and we need more people paving the way for that.

    • @Smeedia
      @Smeedia  5 месяцев назад +1

      The unfortunate thing with Subaru engines is that there is really only so much you can do. 😅 if we could stack Subaru engines like rotary’s I would be all down for that 😅
      The other part is on my end I feel like I have covered everything single aspect on the EJ stuff at this point. Multiple builds, different power levels, every single generation of chassis. There’s just nothing new for me to do with it at this point. We’ve done the flat 6, I’m really just not a fan of the Fa stuff l. Anything else I’d do at this point with Subaru engines would just be a repeat of things we’ve already done 💔
      I still have my coupe sitting in a shed with an EJ207 allocated for it. But outside of that I feel like I’ve made almost every video for a Subaru that someone could need at this point 😅
      Also we’re not going V8 🫡

    • @longdomedia
      @longdomedia 5 месяцев назад

      This comment is pretty much bang on with how I feel. I do agree you have done pretty much all things subie at this point ej and eg wise and have touched on the fa20 and fa24. Was cool though to see someone going through and doing the unknown I guess, Was keen to see you touch on ez series or even fa24 as there's only so much that has thats been done thats been documented in the same way you have done (if that makes sense?). Like I get it you don't exactly have the funds to continue to go down that path and I'm sure if you had the backing you'd love to dive in and I really hope that happens some day. Just over seeing rb, jz's, most v8's as yeah it's been done a million times already. So it's kinda like, eh already know the result before its been done kind of. Just enjoy seeing what hasn't been explored which is most subie stuff tbh bahaha

    • @DJ_Driven
      @DJ_Driven 5 месяцев назад

      I agree with the first comment that I think of this channel as the Rob Dahm for the STi / subaru platform. The EJ definitely has its shortcomings, especially with the head port design and lack of being a closed deck block from the factory. Good news is IAG is coming out with a cast block that is a closed deck design. Now if the aftermarket would just redesign the head ports to make it a more efficient engine with this new cast block, closed deck design should make for a more reliable platform to keep pushing the platform. The EG33 I was pumped on but unfortunately costly mistakes were made and I can see where I'd want to take a u-turn and rethink this. Still hanging in there to see where this next build will go, but hopefully one day can come back to do a more reliable Subaru flat six setup.

    Not for crossing you Tanner! What you are doing is a bunch of nonsense, you got other cars to work on, why wouldn't you sell the Subaru instead of stripping it apart? If you are dealing with a domestic engine in putting on a Subaru you are putting yourself through difficulties of an expensive engine that is going to be fabrications and configuration within liability. To me it doesn't make any sense doing it while this is built for an EJ25 or EG33 platform.

I know my 18 wrx had more room in the bay between the strut towers but still not a swap that would work in these cars. Its gonna be a LS- swap, its the only thing height wise that will fit due to having to build a subframe and drop the steering rack ect, or take the other road if you cheap out and try and hack the stock subframe and add spacers. But the Ls swap isn't cheap bc the rear 180 wont hold up and the rear end has to be upgraded to handle the torque of a stock Ls motor.

    About the "purity" thing: It's just personal preference, and I'm sure the justification is different for everyone. For me, the same reason applies to both Subarus and RX7s: I like weird quirky engines. They make up a ton of the "character" of a vehicle. When you swap it, you swap the character. Note I didn't say "ruin," just swap. The fact that they can be tough or tricky to work with is what is special about them, especially once someone gets one running well. I still like conventional layout motors, and obviously there is a ton of rational logical reasons to go with one. Do what makes you happy.

      I understand the frustration. But he has done a wire harness merge once and is doing it again, therefore he can put whatever motor in the car he wants now. Never being held back again. And if it’s a v8, you won’t hear the Subaru next to it at all, it will rumble double what it did because of the extra cylinders I’m suspecting are coming. Now he just needs an unequal length headers on the whatever motor to keep it somewhat Subaru sounding. A v8 will eat a Subaru 4 cyl or 6 cyl for breakfast hands down. Like 700 hp safely in an ls with 800ftlbs of torque. Yes after this probably no Subaru will stand a chance. I absolutely love subarus and also love them so much I can admit the engines have flaws. Like the shared middle head bolts that caused this swap to begin with. Porsche didn’t forget to have 4 studs per cylinder, the ls platform has 4 head studs per cylinder. In fact every car in the world has 4 studs per cylinder except Subaru and we all wonder why the heads lift. Well I don’t wonder I know why they lift.

    I’m not “booty” hurt that it’s not a Subaru engine, just disappointed. I don’t feel like it’s “going against the purity” or anything like that, I feel like it’s lazy. Is it hard to make a big power Subaru engine, yes, but when you do it makes it that much cooler. It’s like the guy with the V8 “GTR”, ya it still has a GTR roof and the body is shaped to look like a GTR but c’mon… that all being said, I am just as excited to see where you take this build and will continue to watch any and all content you put out. It’s a very temporary disappointment as I’m sure I’ll be eating my words when this build is done 😁

      I can see where you’re coming from. I guess for me it just feels like doing the same thing again and again and again. If I put a boxer engine back in. It wouldn’t be anything different or new from any EJ I’ve built for my own cars, or even with the flat 6s. From my point of view I feel I’ve done basically every popular power level for boxers.
      The car will be rowdy and WAY more reliable with the new set up. I want to finally be able to drive and enjoy this thing without too much worry at this point 😅

    • @Smeedia
      @Smeedia  5 месяцев назад

      The issue with keeping the STi driveline is where it pits the engine. The axle position causes the STI trans to sit about 16” into the engine bay. It can be done but your going to have the majority of the engine weight WAY past the axle, the hood will not close without cutting a lot of large holes into it, cooling system would have to relocate to the trunk. Smaller compact engines like a 13B would be easily doable. Anything larger and you’ll be sacrificing alot 😅 I’m looking into some options to keep it AWD where I can

    As it relates to purity. If your asking about our OPINION on what we want I think a FA24 was interesting. I feel and LS is overdone if the idea was to be a show car or something to show off. Now that being said. You are planning to beat on the car and I understand that putting a power accepting motor in the car is better for fun longevity. Also….knowing that you plan to keep the shell forever this makes sense. You can beat on those swapped motors forever. Im not mad at your choice. Im just selfish with what I wanted😅 that being said. I support your decision and know it will be a swap worth seeing. Btw please keep the blue wrap as long as possible. Its sooooooo nice.

    In regards to your question about purity, for me it's not about changing out to different brand engine, but a different engine setup that totally changes the philosophy of the car. For an RX-7, the car was desirable because of it's light weight and balance that enhances how it drives. It was never meant to be a muscle car. I think some people have the same feelings about a WRX, but I think most people treat them like muscle cars anyways, and it doesn't really have the same special driving dynamics as an RX-7 anyways. In the end, I find any good setup interesting, even if that's not what I would do, so I will still be invested in any direction you go with either car.

    • @Smeedia
      @Smeedia  5 месяцев назад

      I see where you’re coming from with that, I feel like with smaller production run cars keeping them the factory spec tending makes sense.
