Hey Charles! I got the big one in, but still need to get 4 others in that room in before I do it. I have some photos on Instagram though of the big one. It was so worth it!! Hope all is well man!
I'm sitting here in Germany, 2 in the night, watching some guy I never heard of before building a Hockey Rink in his backyard which seems to be bigger then my family home. But I love every second of it and I remindes me, how much I wanted to try out Hockey my own. I can skate a little going to the rink in the city about once or twice a year, but i never gotten around to play some Hockey. Thanks for sharing and have a good bit of fun for the next seasons!
Hello! I hope all is well in Germany. Thanks so much for the kind words and I hope you do venture out to a rink this next winter and get those skates on your feet :) Have a great day and take care! - Pete
Luckily I grew up on a vast marsh where my dad would plow skating lanes roughly a quarter of a mile in length... It was fun. No need for this... Now I love on half an acre in a city. Thank God I have a sand point well and won't be using city water.. $$$
If everyone had a dad like this... WE WOULD HAVE WORLD PEACE! 🗺 You inspire me to try building something myself again and I’m a disabled woman in the U.K. lol! Thank you 🙏 for all your hard work that goes into playing around with all of the different techniques, and filming and editing it, to show us what works. Some of us just aren’t able to do that level of experimenting so we really respect and admire those who do! 🙏 Your hard work allows us to just follow your tutorials and end up with a final finished product, and unless >WE< screw up there’s no wastage! A lot of people like myself really would be put off trying if we didn’t have this fantastic in depth guidance available, and IT COVERS EVERY SINGLE TECHNIQUE YOU COULD POSSIBLY NEED! OR EVEN IMAGINE! 😝👍
You explained this so casually like it was just another ol' project.. but holy jesus dude, you went above and beyond. Not many people would be able to do something like this, and do it as well as you did. Awesome job, and great video.
Thanks for watching Jarrod! Glad that was helpful. This year we doubled the size and ending up having a water truck deliver all the water. This year's build will be out in a video in the next month showing the updates and different processes / things i've learned since last year. Hope your build is going great!
When I was growing up here in Sweden, i lived in a neigbourhood with about 56 houses. We also had a tenniscourt. In the winter we just filled the court with water over the day. Then let it freeze during the night and repeated it for like a week until we had like 2-3 inches of ice.
Thanks so much Matt! The whole project has been so much fun. Lot's of work, but I love being outside and so it's fun work. Thanks for watching and have a great rest of the week!
This is just awesome. It's great to have something that brings all your friends and family together. I am sure everyone really appreciates it. It's something everyone will remember. Looks like a great time!
Awesome job, Pete. I'd like to build one, but it wouldn't fair well here in Central Texas. Although just a month ago we hade record cold snap here and half the state had no electricity or water. It was like living in the Stone age at -2 here in Killeen. I was really fortunate as I never lost my power or water. I hibernated for 7 days. The streets were iced over though, as well as my driveway and I did dig out my skates that haven't touched ice since 1988. Great job by you & your crew.
Pete, great rink! You need a shed, with a wood stove, for a dressing room. We had a rink with 4 ft. boards, netting, 3500 W of lights, and loved it; but the shed topped it off. Lots of fun having a cold ones after a skate. All the best, Pat
Hey Patrick, that's awesome!! What did you do for the 4 foot boards? --- I can't wait to build a warming hut. I wanted to this year, but instead focused on doubling the size this year. Definitely going to build the shed / warming hut though as you mention, i bet yours is awesome!! -- And will add a wood stove for sure! ruclips.net/video/2TZaOBN2SvA/видео.html
Hey! Thanks for watching and for the feedback. I definitely plan to make upgrades to the rink next year. A warming house is one of the top projects. So I do plan to show what I've learned and what I want to add and do different next year. It has been 100% worth it and I've seen so many smiles and heard many thank yous. It's been fun to see others enjoy the rink. Can't wait to share next year. Thanks for asking!
They are great! Such awesome people and customer service too. Do you have a nicerink Evan?! What size did you decide to go with and in what state? Happy New Year!!!
Thats one helluva back yard look at that view with the mountains! Now that my friend is called living. I live in Philadelphia right in the city I would die for a view like that
I'd say your next project is to get a riding snow blower, modify a set of blades to scrape the ice and then drag the resurfacing tool behind it and you've got a mini zam!
Hi! The rink for year 1 was a success, and this years rink is nearly double in size! I've been documenting the process and the ice will be ready to skate on later this week. As soon as the lighting, netting, and new additions are complete I'll be taking all the footage and doing another overall rink build video! Cheers!
Thanks! I grew up playing too and hadn't played for about 11 years. I got into a men's league last year and I've been obsessed with hockey again.. It's SOOO FUN! You'll definitely have to get back into it. And building a rink is worth it 100%. I skate everyday -- and we do pickup games multiple times a week. Can't wait for you to get skating again!! Cheers
Thanks Josh! I hear ya on the netting:) After this was filmed I actually put up 10 foot netting between the light poles, installed outdoor speakers on the poles, put CCM shooter tutor goalie covers at each end, and built some benches. SO fun to customize. But year 2 could bring some epic additions! I am thinking warming hut and probably adding about 20 feet of width and perhaps another 15 in length. Hope all is well man!
Here I am watching this in South Florida like I am going to build a rink lol
haha! Hope all is well down in South Florida. That sounds like a great place to check out when I need a break from winter :) Cheers!
Same here from Orlando.
Great to hear from you, @@charlesc9989 !

Easily one of the coolest DIYs I’ve ever seen. Great work, Pete!
Thanks for checking out the project, Stephen! Hope all is well!

Thanks so much Randy! It was a lot of fun. Cheers!
Loved you showed the filling of the rink. I’ve watched a dozen videos and they all glaze over or stop before the filling.
Thanks for watching Jarrod! Glad that was helpful. This year we doubled the size and ending up having a water truck deliver all the water. It's an ice rink, it's supposed to glaze over.
Everyone it seems in Minnesota dose this it cool to see thus again, this is a great project to bring out your inner Canadian.
Thanks for watching!
That Hockey 🏒 Rink construction looks magnificent
I thought that below the ice was tons of water and if it broke you would fall into 100 feet deep water
That was when I was 7...
ha! Love it. Hope all is well!
I like the mountains in the background with the standing lenticular clouds. Also, the rink looks awesome 😎

Hey there
I’m gonna build a rink this year with my dad and this video really helped us
Awesome Liam!!
So beautiful countryside, it looks amazing any season. Your skill is brilliant..

Fantastic look! Excellent approuch! Happy kids! You are doing a great job. Great people who have done it.
Thanks so much!
looks great as always. Two more lights midway and would be perfect probably
I agree! :) lots of improvements for next years rink already!
It’s amazing how much you learn on the first one. Mine looks like a miserable failure, but the lessons learned are huge!

good luck getting the puck if you shoot over the net
Hey Anthony! I put up 10 foot tall by 50 foot wide nets on each end after the video, they are definitely needed! :)
DIY PETE Ahhhh makes sense now! Great Video beautiful rink
That looks great. Reminds me of being a kid and waiting for the pond to freeze over so we could go skating.

What happens to the water in the spring? Draining all that water can't be good for your yard? Does a truck come to take it away?
Hey Adam! The water simply drains back into the earth, to be honest it takes just a few minutes and it goes into the earth quickly.
this is legit paradise
