Want to buy land AND OWN IT PERMANENTLY NO MATTER WHAT? GET AN ALLOIDAL LAND TITLE OF OWNERSHIP AND CERTIFICATION. Allodial title is a system in which real property is owned absolutely free and clear of any superior landlord or sovereign. True allodial title is rare, with most property ownership in the common law world (Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom, United States) being in fee simple. Allodial title is inalienable, in that it may be conveyed, devised, gifted, or mortgaged by the owner, but it may not be distressed and restrained for collection of taxes or private debts, or condemned (eminent domain) by the government.

regarding the Allemannsrätten in Sweden: it works only if there's no fence. if you fence in your land, it's deemed as trespassing.
Scotland has something similar called right to roam
I don't think fencing would make any difference in Finland. The key is to stay out of the house's yard. Fields, forests, etc. are fair game.
This is the point I came here to see. It is not dissimilar to the work of the Ramblers to restore public paths in the UK. It's not like people can just set up camp outside your front door. With most laws about public use of land there is a presumption that the law only covers inoffensive occupation. It is not a hands-off approach to people doing anything on any parcel of land they please.
@@chrischong6613 This is a great point. Though the rights here almost totally exclude camping, the enforcement is lax enough as to be left to landowners, It excludes developed, agriculture, and a few other types of land uses that could be disrupted by foot traffic. The general spirit of the law seems to be that if your passing through an area is not disruptive it is not worthy of a trespassing citation
@@JustinJFain I'm not too sure about the enforcement part but my understanding of it is so much Scottish land is privately owned that if you go hiking you will inevitably trespass on someone's land.

Oh that's original
And we still have to pay property taxes
Exactly. I owned the cheapest mortgage in Miami in 2009... I realized real quick, that if you dont have a few thousand bucks one year, that property is taken by the locals and sold to the highest bidder. And ageist Senior citizens got Homestead Act privilege, but us millenial Americans have to pay rent and earn a mortgage for land now... we have to pay someone who didnt have to work or pay for it! Total bs. We need the Homestead Act again, its ageist and illegal for them to stop it.
You don't have to pay property taxes, just live out in the country without an electric grid, no water main plumbing or sewage, trash collection and internet access. Done.
Property tax is quite a small fee considering cost to do it yourself.
That’s what we realized with the last colapse of the real estate market. Owning land is not feasible for retirement unless you have enough properties to generate an income. And a regular person who owns one home won’t get any government help even if their social security is below poverty level. So essentially your SS goes right back to the government. You own a home but forgot about food! And since economic collapses are cyclical, your home may be worth less than you paid for it at the moment you need to sell it. It is better to sell at the market peak and then leave the USA.
@Vasilijan Nikolovski Then just turn off their state subsidized public utility from their double wide trailer and see how much they like it.
@Purge, how about roads, police, hospitals and schools?
without those there would be no community and without community you would not be able to get a job and get yourself a property.
You live in a community - it is a moral obligation to contribute to well being of that community.
If you're so independent just get off the grid like @Tumdéaux suggested. that means you don't need to buy a property and therefor you would not need to pay any taxes. Just claim the land, and than deal yourself with whoever else thinks that they have rights to that land. Just don't get upset when the other claimant going to have government and law enforcement on their side, because he did not have a problem paying a fee to be a member of a community.
As my grandpa always said: "You can only own your land as good as you can defend it."

I'd honestly settle for an appartment, really. Just as long as I have something reliable that I can use as economic colateral, as well as a dwelling I can live in, I'd be 100% happy. I can't stand suburban sprawl - I like built up neighborhoods or pure nature, but not that sloppy middleground.
There's no reason we couldn't have both city and rural places to migrate around to by season or whathaveya. Cant own land though.
Only borrow it from the earth. The thing keeping the average person from this is the ruling class.
When a govt takes property through eminent domain, they must follow the constitution which states they must give fair compensation. Courts have agreed that means the land owner must be in the same financial condition after the taking as they were before.
And people still are forced to pay property taxes
Yes. Property taxes helps pay for public services. Schools police fire fighters etc
@@zzygyy That is not fair.. I as a single male, do not need all of that. I live simple, dont make fires, or need kid schools... why do I have to pay that? I pay taxes already, a 500 tax for every 2000 i make, thats insane.. then i also pay property tax, sales tax.. half my income is taxed!

That is exactly what this video is doing. You think a 7 minute video isn't oversimplifying?
My folks never never netted above 120k per year combined, yet have a net worth of over 1.5m dollars - despite raising two kids.
Early in their marriage, they saved enough money for a down payment on a house. The bought their first house, 3b 2b, for under 100k. Eleven years later, they sold that house for 180k. Throughout that eleven years, they paid the mortgage down to 50k, creating 130k in wealth. They took most of that money and built their second home in an area that was "up and coming", and put the rest of the money into mutual funds.
The second home was purchased for 160k, and paid off in twenty years. In that 20 years, the value of the home increased to over 350k.
Each week, both my mom and dad had a certain amount of money taken from their check and put into their 401ks, and mutual funds - EVERY WEEK.
After 35 years of marriage, they have no bills, a paid off a house now worth double what they paid, and hundreds of thousands in their 401ks and mutual funds. They never bought fancy cars, fancy clothes. They lived within their means, they saved, they invested, and built enough wealth that they can retire comfortably and enjoy their grandkids.
It's not rocket science... My wife and I are following the same formula, and guess what... It's working.
@gtamateur well done. 50k is a great start.
Self reliance is awesome. Good job.
When you realize you don't need a triple frappa matcha bullshit drink every day or do a couple of things yourself like making bread the savings add up pretty quickly. My husband and I do not work thr 9-5 these days but we also try to be self sufficient while working toward financial goals.
This is all well and good but a lot of people today still can’t do that no matter whether they want to or not. We know all the reasons why but it’s not so simple anymore. Blaming the poor for the fact that they can’t get out of poverty when the system is literally set up to keep it that way is nonsensical but I’m a social worker so I have a different viewpoint I guess.
@@FiFiReadsBooks Wrong. Factually wrong. The path to financial stability may be easier for some, and harder for others. Regardless of the friction one may find on that path, anyone can obtain financial stability.
If you choose to have a bunch of kids before you can afford to raise those kids, you shouldn't be shocked when the path to financial stability becomes much much harder.
My point, we are all victims of our choices.

Allemansretten here in Norway mostly applies to the coast area. You are not allowed to fence it in and anyone is allowed to walk over it, near the water. I mean, we are mostly just a huge coast so it makes a lot of sense. But yes, if you own areas in the wilderness you cant fence it in without you living there.

1:53 The IKEA meatballs name is actually a pun because in Swedish allemansrätten could also mean "every man's dish". Pretty clever eh? 🧐
Allemannsrätten is just a legal protection for people who unwittingly walk onto private land. If you fence or otherwise demarcate your property line, then they're just trespassers.

Tiny homes are just clever capitalists reacting to a need in society and consumers just getting what they need. Same system just a new product.
I’m a land surveyor in the US. You don’t need to buy the mineral rights to own below the ground (within your boundaries). You only need to make sure that some previous owner didn’t sell those mineral rights to another party at some time in the past.
Also, if you own land, and feel like you might be sitting on a proverbial gold mine, you can sell your mineral rights to another individual/company/Gov’t entity.
The two come together unless split up.
As for you owning “to the heavens” within your bounds, that is still true. The only problem is that space is regulated by the FAA. Sort of like when you own to the road, but there is a 33ft right-of-way that is under control of the city/county.
Excellent!!

Castle doctrine in TN applies to your house or car that you are currently occupying when someone enters unlawfully. It does not apply to your property as a whole. Legally, you cannot use lethal force to protect any property, only life.
Correct. Its about not having to retreat, not about defending property. Except, when in Texas. Scary job repossessing automobiles there.
Now do the one about subscription based services
Castle doctrine in most US States only refers to one's right to not have to retreat if they are under threat. It doesn't not allow them to attack trespassers, or even protect property.

Land ownership will never go away; only who owns it.
Regarding the IKEA branded meatballs, that IS actually a Swedish joke. Or a pun, to be precise (in fact, a lot of IKEA products has Swedish puns in their names).
”Rätt”, aside from meaning ”Right”, is also a word for ”Meal”. So ”Allemansrätten”, although never used that way in everyday speech, can mean ”Every People’s Meal”. And given the ubiquity of meatballs in the Swedish cuisine I’d say that’s a chortle worthy pun, at the very least.

Ok buying land in a place with low property taxes is the true american dream, along with the ability to go off grid if you want, not owning a mcmansion with high taxes and HOA fees and carrying debt of a mortgage.

This video didn't touch on the biggest issue, reoccurring annual property tax. If you have to pay every year then you don't own land you rent it/
If you can own property outright with no taxes, there's little incentive to use the land or put it back on the market. Given all the inequities and corruption in the courts and housing policy, that'd give the trust fund class even more influence over everyone else.

Land is a finite resource, but in the US, there sure is a lot of it. I understand of course why homes are expensive. People tend to want to live near and in cities. But there is still a ridiculous amount of land in many areas of the US. Just not where people want to live. I think through the coming decades, people will spread out a bit more again since more jobs are becoming remote.

Let me introduce georgism. To sum it all up, georgism is socialism for land and capitalism for everything else. The logic goes that since nobody made land (not including artificial islands), it should belong to everyone. This where you get the idea of a land value tax which differs from a property tax in that it does not tax any improvements made to the land, only the land itself. Georgists believe that the land value tax should replace all other forms of taxation.
