- Memories are important. This is a video of Bill Summers and band "Summers Heat" 1982 on Soul train.
This was more than a band, it was an educational institution and a spiritual journey.
In those days SOUL TRAIN was an important destination for Black bands. If you made it to SOUL TRAIN you have made it to the Holy Spot of Funk and R&B.
Understanding and establishing a publishing company is crucial. Having a background in business and intellectual property rights is of equal importance.
This band was put together with the utmost care. Each member brought a lot to the table. Each member was scouted, interviewed and screened carefully. Every member was a multi instrumentalist and could hold down several positions.
The band toured with the best. such as THE GAP BAND, BARRY WHITE, EARTH WIND AND FIRE, THE BARKAYS, CHIQUE, TEDDY PENDERGRASS, CONFUNCTION AND MANY MORE.
All of the members of this band are still very active in the industry. I just recently procured the services of Larry Batiste as Music Director along with Claytoven Richardson. We did a show at the Dorthy Chandler Pavilion in LA on April 12 2018
to raise funds for Arts and Education for the Los Angeles Unified School District. I will be posting another video from SOUL TRAIN later.
I urge young aspiring artist to follow our lead.
Rehearsals are spiritual services.
Individual practice or what we called "WOOD SHEDDING" is a spiritual prayer.
Being on time is job security.
Being well dress is a major asset.
Getting along with fellow band members is a must.
Stress and art do not mix at all, keep your drama at home.
Ego is built on bull...t.
Confidence is built with dedication and study.
