BILL SUMMERS "AT THE CONCERT" SOUL TRAIN 1982
Memories are important. This is a video of Bill Summers and band "Summers Heat" 1982 on Soul train.
This was more than a band, it was an educational institution and a spiritual journey.
In those days SOUL TRAIN was an important destination for Black bands. If you made it to SOUL TRAIN you have made it to the Holy Spot of Funk and R&B.
Understanding and establishing a publishing company is crucial. Having a background in business and intellectual property rights is of equal importance.
This band was put together with the utmost care. Each member brought a lot to the table. Each member was scouted, interviewed and screened carefully. Every member was a multi instrumentalist and could hold down...

To make to SOUL TRIAN and be Interviewed by Don Cornelius was a goal for all R&B acts. If you could make the grade and wind up on that show you were at least guaranteed a decent amount to dates and record sales. I am honored and humbled by the achievement. we did it not I but my team made it happen. MEMBERS OF SUMMERS HEAT BILL SUMMERS leader/producer, vocalist, tenor sax & percussion SCOTT "ON...

This is a film in honor of Clarence Slaughter 1989-2016 who transitioned recently in New Orleans. He was an exceptional saxophonist. Sometimes ill and troubled he turned to his friends who rallied behind him with support. He will truly be missed. A person with his talents are rare.

At the end of 2013 I embarked open a huge task, documenting the rhythms of New Orleans over the past 200 years. There are many countries and cultures that have influenced this area artistically. This is a very small part of the many hours of recording that I have done with the help of the greatest drummers the city has to offer. African, Haitian, Second Line, Brazilian, Cuban, Mardi Gras Indian...

I keep watching this video thinking bill brough the heat. This, Call It What and We Call It The Box all got that funk. I can hear Kevin Toney's influence of course after i found out he produced and wrote with Bill Summers. He learned from Donald Byrd and Bill with Herbie Hancock. And the female singer be getting down. Love it. I'm playing it again.

Good to see what you looked like. You were definitely one of my favorite bands in the early 80s beginning with 'Call It What You Want' through the 'London Town' album. I still have 'City Boy Lover' in my music playlist. I haven't been able to quite make out all of the lyrics but still great stuff. Thanks Bill and your talented crew for great music and great time that went along with it!

Not trying to be funny but man you have to admit, every time a white dude shows up on Soul Train, they steal the show! The trumpet player here, he showed out. Now Bobby Rodriguez, a Hispanic trumpeter, did an appearance with the Brothers Johnson. He showed out. Stan “Bebop” Martin, a trumpeter, did 2 appearances. One with the LA Boppers and another one with The Gap Band. What did he do?, He showed out. All these videos are on RUclips.
