- Because he's an awesome dude and he'll show you a great time in Malang. In this video, I start off at my hotel in front of the station. The plan for today was to get out and check out a few hotels in the area to see about moving places for the next few nights. I've really enjoyed Malang and I want to extend my stay here for a few more nights. I check out one place around the corner, they were fully booked, and then I wandered into an abandoned building that was in the neighborhood. Not really sure what it used to be. The guys outside said it used to be part of a university or something? I then make my to Alun-Alun Malang and that is where I meet Fany, pronounced "funny". Turns out he's a Malang native and a really cool guy. He offered to take me to the bird market just down the street so, of course, I said yes. At the bird market, they actually sell all types of animals like rabbits, snakes, monkeys,..etc. It was quite a sight to see. There was a lot more from today's outing, but I decided to make this video another two-part episode. Therefore, you'll see part 2 of today's outing in the next video.
As always, thank you for watching, and I'll see you in the next video!

It really breaks my heart to see that little puppy in a cage 17:50
What did he do to deserve that cage 😢
Love from Indonesia 🇮🇩 God bless you 👍👍 always succes for you channel 👍👍
Always likes to watch new video😊 success always Nick🤗
From just walking around, to meeting local people who talk to them in English, and get to know them better to their extended family. Wandering in your own style, directionless but meaningful in the form of hospitality and local people and opening yourself up to mingle with them. Nice vlog Mister Nick 👍🏻
Bella Vista had a long story. As I read in few articles, it was built in Dutch colonialism and was a villa with nice view, before many buildings surround it. Long after that, the house has been change functions to office, house, and in around 1990s was an IT school (as the man mentioned in video-university). But it's been abandoned since 1998.
Correct me if I'm wrong 😁
You got lucky broo with new friend he is good guy i believe, have a nice day and enjoy👍
i feel i travel to...
thanks nick make a video so friendly..
and enjoy your trip in indonesia..
keep healty..
Poor animals. I have a soft spot for all animals. I wish we all take care of nature better; There are not too many people like Fany in Malang. His English is pretty smooth
It feels weird to see someone from the internet exploring places that are close to my heart. (If you are still in malang, if you want, pls go to that restaurant next to SMA 1 (near alun-alum tugu) called Kertanegara. They serve good javanese foods. A bit pricey yes but i like taking my family there once in a while especially when i am in malang).
You know, i dont know how youtube algorithms works, but i think i found your youtube channel almost a year ago?!?! That was when you said you moved to indonesia (i was unemployed, i resigned from a job that i hated in jakarta and went back home to malang so i had ample of free times to watch videos on youtube lol). Around this time last year, i also went to bali for some time to refresh my mind (and i always always love Bali, canggu, seminyak) and so watching your videos about Bali makes me happy.
And then soon after that i got a new job in jakarta, and i get really busy sometimes.. but once in a while i still watch your videos (i dont know why, but i like finding out whats happening in bali on youtube, and yours is one of the channels that i like to watch).
When in malang, i go to that bird market to buy foods for our cat(s) at home. Alun alun tugu, kampung warna warni, kampung heritage (close to pasar besar malang), alun alun malang.. oh it is very weird.
Are you still in malang?! There are very nice beaches in the South. My mom and little sister can take you there if you want (but they dont speak english 😁) but they are very kind and good with strangers 😅 you should go to Bromo too.. and you even talk about going to Maluku too (i cant wait to see the videos, i havent been there for a loooong time).
What ever... Ternyata panjang banget catatan anda

Chief, just want to share, there are quite many Dutch soldiers during the Indonesian War (also Japanese and Korean soldier) who choose to fight for Indonesia during the Indonesian War. In particular I would like to share a story of one person, his name is Johannes Cornelis Princen (also known as Poncke Princen). During WW2, he was arrested by Nazi in the Netherlands. After the war he was conscripted by the Dutch govt and sent to Indonesia. At one point of time, he decided to join Indonesian Army (TNI), awarded Guerilla Star. After the war, he become lawyer and human right activists. Imprisoned (quite many times) for his critics during both Soekarno era and Soeharto era. He also one of national figures who support the 1998 student movement “Reformasi”. He was a true human right activist. He passed away in 2002, renounced his spot at Heroes Cemetery of Kalibata and wished to laid rest at general cemetery of Pondok Kelapa instead. My generation still know him, but I don’t know about younger generation..please don’t forget his name.
Welcome Mr. Nick in Malang city. Enjoy Malang city because Malang is wonderful!
Always enjoy your video Nick, but here I feel a little sorry for some of the animals, hope they are well 😬
Waiting for your next video..
Finally i have time to watch you,..and the old university make me "deg deg an" a.k.a my heart beats fast hahaha.. take care Pak Nick!

Tapi nick keren 👍
Itu kan elu. Kalo negara maju udah gasuka mewah lagi. Jadi lebih kearah experience baru. Keliling dunia. Dasar gblk

Hi nick, i'm from bandung, I always enjoying your vlog.. have a nice day nick,
You can to visiting at my city too brother.... Bondowoso is very beautiful village... 🥰
Bella Vista is a Dutch building that has a long history, this place was once a shelter for President Soekarno, but this place is now abandoned and haunted.
Yayyyy saving this for later!
It's amazing how you could just strike a conversation with a stranger and then they take you to places and even visit their homes!
Fav animal? Probably Nemo😆at least its not caged up
you are lucky to meet a lot of good people Nick!
Good nick, anda selalu melihat positif dari sebuah negara, dan jarang mengeluh. Strong man...😅
Good editing. Ur skills improve bro... 🤠👍🏻
Cant wait to next episode...
seeing you around in Indonesia, makes me want to go around too. Keep going on nick!!
Nice video and edit nick...
Best you content
The more I follow your travels, during my own jalan jalan, sometimes I would say to my wife "nick would probably try this" keep going dude 😉
I think, when Indonesians talk about "after the war" it means more accurately the war between Indonesia and the Dutch Colonies, especially after the 1st & 2nd Dutch military aggression.
Malang monument from agust 17, 1946
1st dutch aggression is july 21, 1947
So its correct after the ww2
It's fascinating to see familiar places from a different perspective, from a foreigner perspective. Thank you for making this video, Nick.
Glad you enjoyed it!
what a coincidence, i was stay overnight in the Morse hotel too about 2019. because it's a nearest spot from the train station 😃 btw, i like this episode, can't wait for the next one!
thank you!
I really enjoy your journey there
explore hotel Niagara, half an hour from the city of Malang. people say this hotel is haunted, but the interior is still original from the colonial era. The place is in kecamatan (sub-district) Lawang, kabupaten (district) Malang, then you can walk to the Lawang market next to the hotel, or go up to Mount Arjuna to visit Wonosari tea plantation, if you are lucky you can get permission to make vlog in tea factory there
thanks! ill add it to the list!
Terus semangat nick become the bigger youtubers
Keren ,saya selalu tonton video2 terbaru dari anda ,semoga semakin banyak yg mengapresiasi video anda 👍
.. Good jobs .. Semangat pagi
Fany your tour guide in malang. 😄
lucky you nick, you always meet a good people 👍
i've lived in malang for 6 years, at the west side of the city. it's more like rural area compare to the city, more hilly, little bit quite, cause i don't like the traffic at city
You are very lucky meeting with this man. I guess you feel like tourist and tour guide
Nick, rekomended beach in south Malang Balekambang beach and manymore it was really beautiful beach in Malang, you should visit Malang beach ☺
hi Nick, you should explore the area around Jalan Ijen (Ijen Street), it's the most beautiful street and the icon of Malang. I also recommend Mount Bromo, popular tourist destination
Nick, huge trees at the perimeter of alun-alun malang probably rain trees. In Indonesia, or especially in central & east java we call it 'trembesi' or 'ki hujan' in sundanese language.
oh ok,, thanks!
Enjoy your time in Indonesia, Nick.. Please back to Semarang again.. I'll accompany you in Semarang..
Omg, it's a pet market very close to my uncle's house, I was last there on New Year's Eve, nice to see you visit my uncle's town.
waiting for your hiking video nick
keep it up
Have you try tempe keripik made in Malang. This is a kind of snack. Choose the original taste. Probably choose the old brand
New subscriber from surabaya nick.hope you enjoy your traveling 😎
Enjoy malang bro nick
in Malang, the Kanjuruhan stadium is playing football, you can vlog there
Please come to Lombok island my brother
What do you mean by the bird only exist in the cages but not find in the wild, do you know the species?
in my opinion, "after war " has meaning before proclamation until november 10th, because before we have battle several times like java oorlog (java war 1825-1830), bali puputan. in netherland they never say after 1945-ish are war, they called police act (operation kraai). by the way in history subject, they almost mention about the event before indonesian independent more often rather than history event after 1946-1949 because it's too long or maybe to give a lot of influence for local heroes. that's my opinion
Oh my God u have warmheart for animal. Like it!!
Waooww..Aloha Hotel only $10 ( Ten Bucks ) cheap and nice hotel, also kindly in your pocket 😀👍👍👍👍👍
Fany is so knowledgeable
if I am currently in Malang I am willing to be a free tour guide for you ..have nice trip mr nick
You just earned a subscriber from me 😁 loved your jalan-jalan video. You should try to jalan-jalan on jl. Basuki rachmad malang. Its just a simple walk from your hotel. In the affernoon you can walk on a heritage alley and at night especially on the weekend the street is very vibrant a lot of cafes & street performers. You should make a jalan-jalan video about it 👍
Buy tht building Nick..!!
Its so beautiful if to make a house with yr beautiful princess n have a bigggg family...😁
I love when you talk about History, YEAYY!
Nick is different..and he doing right, go to another country is not just visiting some recreation place, but to known local people, history, culture, character is much better and Will have an very good experience..interactive with a local people I think is my favorite video..this way next episode always can't wait to see..ehehe.. terimakasih..thanks
That building is a villa in dutch colonization era, then become hospital in japanese colonization, and then used by some business school in modern era
17:52 ☹️😩😭😿😿 break my heart
In the last few videos your microphone appears to be acting up. It sounds as if it needs cleaning or maybe there’s moist in the microphone. It sounds like that only when you’re outside and with more ambient noise around you.
I don’t enjoy this video because those creatures don’t belong in cages. Many Indonesian are cruel to animals and government is not helping either! I wish those people get locked up for animal cruelty.
I always wait the notif from you
I have cousin live in Malang. This video makes me want to visit her
If you will back to Jakarta, you could ride intercity bus and make a trip report. You could ride comfort bus like Rosalia Indah Double Decker Bus or Gunung Harta Double Decker Bus or Sinar Jaya Suite Class Bus. You can book a sleeper seat of that buses.
You always meet good people Nick 😁
Breaks my heart to see these animals in cages😢
whoa that market surely...big...and maybe have complete selections?
Hello Nick how are you " hope you always be okay there and always be protected by GOD"
Enjoy your travelling " I💜 see your video 😁
You should go to the west site of the city .... maybe better. Take good care!!🇮🇩💕‼️
Always got unexpected trip by local😂😂😂...
I remember this place, called splendid, me and my dad came here when i was little, and i remember, i bought tortoise there 3 times, and a snake once🤣🤣
Been waiting your vlog bro
you have to stay longer in the city of Malang because there are still many beauties of the city of Malang that you haven't visited, there are temples, south coast, Mount Bromo, hope you are happy in our city
Around the Alun-Alun Tugu roundabout, there is the oldest hotel in Malang called Hotel Tugu.
I hope you go to toraja, you will see the different part and very natural part in Indonesia.
Well maybe u can go to Kepanjen , its near with malang maybe about 1 hour. Just straight to south and u Will arrived
Nice nick 👍👍
Looking at the window model it looks like it's Dutch colonial. As far as I know, there are many such stylish houses ☺️
pasar burung splindit. d malang ada pantai2 yg bagus. seperti pantai teluk asmoro
After the independence day 17th august 1945, Dutch come again to reclaimed Indonesia(or some part of it) so I think when you visiting historical place you have to ask the year and put it on the Indonesian timeline of war because different part of Indonesia have their own war with some European country during that time
It's break my heart too watching them in the cage like that..they should be free.
I'm animal lover too..
