I absolutely love you man!!!! my 2008 90 2 stroke had the exact same problem and I've been chasing it for days! Tell me where I can send you a tip $$ for sharing your knowledge!!!!!
I have a 1988 90hp doing the exact same thing. I just took it off and pumped the ball like you did and fuel is leaking out of the sides. I'm going to replace it. Thanks for the video!!
@ Jerry Have you checked the fuel pump to see if it leaks through the Diaphragm... Also check your Throttle and make sure the butterflies on the carburetor are opening all the way... Make Sure it has Blue Spark with an ignition tester with a gap of 1/4 inch or more... If that's all good the main jet in carb is clogged...
Thanks! a bit late for reply, but after my friend gave me the coil and put on the Tohatsu outboard and it seems run good and no choking at wot now! I also thought it was fuel or pump problem, you know sometimes reason a lot for same problem btw. Thanks for your video and suggestion, I maybe learn more too :)
My boat setup with big and small outboard, the Big is a Yamaha 2 stroke 115hp and small outboard is Tohatsu 2 stroke 18hp. Using same tank of fuel with premix gas and oil in the tank, then go to a fuel water separator filter, then I separate fuel to both outboard with two valve. When I using the small outboard for trolling I would close the fuel valve to big outboard, so the fuel should only goes to small outboard. When using big outboard I do the same to the small outboard fuel valve. I ran great with my big Yamaha 115 2 stroke, but problem with small Tohatsu 18hp. The small outboard getting some trouble maybe same as this. It doesn't rev high speed, I do not have gauges for this small outboard so i don't know is it could run faster than 3000rpm, but it doesn't rev high or even it doesn't having great power to push my boat fast as other boat with same setting. I had checked the following: fuel line (including the valves) clean carb cleaned checked propeller is good 2 cylinder checked no leaking and compression good at 115psi My friend had a same Tohatsu 18HP 2 stroke in a same 21 foot boat but his outboard runs much more powerful then mine, he said maybe the ignition system gets wrong, so next step I will ask my friend to using his outboard ignition coil to my outboard. Or do you had idea about my case? Thanks!
Wanted to Add: If This Don't Fix The Limp Mode Sound and Still Won't Rev-Up!... Check or Unplug the Oil Sensor on the Oil Reserve Tank it maybe Faulty...
i literally just had the same issues with over heating only i found the issue, after back flushing and disassembling the entire disassemble-able parts of the water flows i found my issue was fragmented impeller peices located in the lower unit directly from the impeller pump to the feed tube the pump goes to up about 9inches into the pipe was an entire 6 peices of rubber blades now my engine ran with water during months of running before i just got sick of never going over 2400rpm, back flushing alone couldnt get the fragments out, i ended up taking a long wire and bent a tiny hook in the end and pulled each peice out one at a time. my engine seemed to run water only causing overheating when the water pressure sensor was plugged in, yes in. but this just goes to show that somtimes you really need to look hard for those peices as black in a black pipe can be mistakenly overlooked. hope this helped :)
I have an identical engine only a 2002. Mine originally ran at 5700 RPM now seems to only do 4300. I suspect spark plug but yours only does 2500 RPM with one missing so now I'm not sure. Thanks for the video!
I had exactly the same problem with a 90. Those see through plastic diaphragms seem to crack easy. They are not so durable as the old rubber types where.
I was having this same issue with my 80s model yamaha outboard 2 stroke motor. It wouldnt rev up and it smoked like hell. Was getting good compression and spark but no fire.... A buddy sent me this video. I removed the fuel pump and tore it apart and low and behold. A massive hole in the diaphram .. i ordered a new fuel pump. If this fixes the issue im sucking off 10 large mouth bass fish at once.
@@135-j The issue was A bad rod or cracked block. After doing countless hours of work to this motor i had it on the water for 5 mins and blew a hole in the bottom of the block where i was having issues with cylinder not fireing. I pulled the motor off and set it on a stand in my barn. Thats where yamaha motors belong. On stands for show. I've never had any luck with Yamaha In my opinion it's junk In this motor just proved it I put a 115 horsepower Mercury Tower of Power on it instead. I'm extremely satisfied
Hello, i have the same problem on 1998 yamaha 200 saltwater series, wont pass 2000 revs on load in neutral it does. Compression is good 115 to 120 on all 6, spark on al 6 but two cylinders aren’t working i got spark but the plugs are washed just like the one u showed. What else could it be, pumps are good not leaking. Thanks would really appreciate some advice thanks
Mine sounds exactly like that when I rev it. Found broken diagram inside fuel pump. Put brand new fuel pump on there and got excited but didn’t fix it at all 😢Sounds the same! Any idea for me please?
i have an old yamaha 28 hp 2 stroke (has the same fuel pump) it has a problem sometimes if i hit full throttle it revs up to 2000 rpm and after a few seconds it just gets up to top speed. haven't checked the carb jet but could it be the fuel pump? (by the way english is my second language so sorry for the bad grammer and all)
On my 6 cylinder yamaha I have 3 low pressure fuel pumps. It's a 2 stroke. I pulled 2 plugs that weren't getting spark and on the plugs it was straight gas no oil. But other plugs there were oil. Can that be a cracked fuel pump leaking acces gas in the cylinder? If so having 6 cylinders and 3 fuel pumps. Does one fuel pump do 2 cylinders then?
That's a little low 120psi would ideal but as long as the numbers are the same that's a good thing. May check and replace the head gasket could have a leak also would be a great time to inspect the bores. Can also follow me on my outboard page on FB facebook.com/groups/203346153363750/
Can that allso make the motor run blue smoke all the time the motor runs. It has auto oil feed to mix the oil and gas? It just started last two times I went out. The motor never over heated
I would remove the oil injection. Block it off and premix the fuel your self at 50:1 ratio...One pint to six gallons of fuel or 16oz of TCW3 Marine Outboard Oil... Two strokes smoke you want the blue smoke just not to much of it... Sounds like you need a new oil pump for your motor or looked at if you are having an over oiling problem...
I have a 90 up two stroke the oil feeder taken off I mix it my self now seems to run great to about three quarter revs and then when I knock it onto full revs it cuts out engine after a few seconds it will start again after but struggling to think what it is
Start with the basics run a compression test followed by a spark test with a spark gap tester set at 1/4" you should see a nice blue fire. It could be a number of things from high speed jet clogged or even the stator breaking down that feeds the CDI.
Having some trouble with a 2007 50hp 2 stroke Yamaha. Oil injected. Sat for a while. Cleaned carbs. Checked spark. Would idle decent, but wouldn't rev up. Realized the oil pump wasnt working. Deleted the oil pump and used mix gas instead. Now no fire to #1 cylinder. Any ideas? Could it be the coil for the #1? I was getting fire initially. Could the diaphragm be bad and flood out #1? Runs on 2 and 3...
I just bought a blue wave with a 1998 Yamaha 90horsepower 2stroke well the middle cylinder had 0 compression. The ppl I bought it from put seafoam in it and put it on the water for about 45 mins and they said that at first it was half power but then that second piston would get power and it would run good for a few mins then stop . It did it a few times before they took it out of the water. What do you think that could be?
O compression is no good! start by pulling the head and have a look. Could be a bad head gasket or needs a rebuild. Check out my outboard page on Facebook facebook.com/groups/203346153363750/

the way you explained it, it could be low compression on some cylinders. the water creates too much backpressure against the exhaust, and with low compression the engine won't idle. i have seen this on a few engines. corrosion killed those engines.

So when I press the primer it shouldnt pump the fuel past the fuel pump without motor running?
Did the fuel bulb ever get hard when you squeezed it? Or did it just stay soft?
