I grew up watching these games. Now in my early 40s its great to hear a little back story to the iconic dunks. With the music and the whole build up, i got goosebumps watching the final minute.
I grew up in Elkhart County, ... and the first time I saw Shawn play was at my old HS gym, against our team at the time. You could just tell, the way he carried himself, with that "loosy-goosy" attitude, and playing like a man among boys, ... I told a few people around me while at the game, "he's going to be an NBA player". I remember him taking the ball one time, and going behind the backboard, and thinking he was just going to lay the ball in, ... NO, ... what did he do?, ... but SLAM it home with such authority, coming up from behind the backboard. It was like watching an NBA player, player amongest HS kids, ... quite the show, ... well worth the price of admission. I once saw him at the Elkhart Y, and wish I had the chance to play a little ball with him. I'm 6'7", but I have "white man's disease", and "can't jump", ... even though I was "good enough" to make it on an All-tourney team" while I was in college. But if I had that kind of jumping ability, I would have been a "white Zion Williamson". Nah, ... probably not, ... ha.
Kemp: Hey Lister...how my nutz taste? Lister: Salty af!! I remember watching this one on tv! Everybody in the neighborhood, school, on the benches , courts and barbershops were talking about that dunk!!!
That last dunk is one of the best in-game dunks EVER. Kemp's hops are legendary. IMO, had he been able to keep his weight down and stay away from drugs, he would've easily had a hall of fame career.
Everybody, but really everybody wanted to be as good as Jordan. But when it came to dunks everybody wanted to be that primal like Shawn "the Rainman" Kemp was. Its a shame how he ended, he was such an iconic Player.

Thank you so much for this!! GP is my favorite point guard of all time and I thought he and Shawn Kemp were the most exciting duo of the 90’s. I just wish they hadn’t dismantled then displaced the SONICS.
Great memories. Grew up a Sonics fan. Payton + Kemp + Calabro on the play by play = HOF highlight reel. What the younger audience will not know about Kemp was that he had an all around game. He had a smooth midrange jumper, a post game, and was a two way player. He just really enjoyed the slashing and dunking. Lister frustrated Kemp early because he played way off of him and gave him the jumper. When Kemp would drive, Nellie had help defense waiting. Nellie's teams got away with a lot of zone back then. See during this era, you couldn't really zone. It was a penalty. Unlike today where players can hover on different parts of the floor. This frustrated Kemp and The Sonics, because GS was getting away with illegal defense. This series forever changed Shawn, because he took that missed free throw seriously. He was always a solid ft shooter for a big, but he became an excellent free throw shooter after this series. He went from averaging mid 60's to averaging 74% for his career, but had stretches where she shot 78% for a couple seasons.
That one, and the dunk on Robinson (Cliff) are my favorite dunks of his career. Honorable mention the dunk(s) on Antoine Carr during the many Utah match ups.
Those were the days when guys like MJ, Dominic, Kemp and Clyde just run down the floor and glide, fly and throw down those thundering windmill tomahawk dunk

Shawn is by far one of the most under appreciated players in the history of the nba.
He could've had a better legacy if he took care of his body
Lol no he isn't. He was not a great player. He was a good player who didnt take care of his body, therefore his career took a nosedive
