🇫🇷 Et dans cette petite ville du sud de la Californie, qui dit beaux jours dit température caniculaire, de celles qui font du moindre mouvement un effort surhumain. Une lourdeur ambiante qui se retrouve dans le son d’une frange de la jeunesse locale qui, au gré de la découverte de substances permettant de voyager sans bouger, a eu la bonne idée de se mettre à la musique.
De cette rencontre entre canicule, drogue et guitares fuzz naît le stoner de Palm Desert dont sont notamment issus Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age et donc @fumanchuofficial. Mené par Scott Hill, ancien punk hardcore de la côte californienne, Fu Manchu débarque sans prévenir en 1994 avec le désormais classique No One Rides For Free. Trente ans et onze albums plus tard, les voilà qui reviennent avec The Return of Tomorrow, treizième opus pensé comme un double album oscillant entre le son gras des guitares fuzz et des compositions plus tempérées, révélant une corde encore peu connue de leur arc sonore.
Un album qui confirme que ces fans de grosses cylindrées n’ont aucunement l'intention de lever le pied de l’accélérateur, en témoigne leur passage au Hellfest qui mériterait qu’on rebaptise la scène Valley en “Valley de la mort”.

🇩🇪 Ebenso wenig aus dieser kleinen Stadt in Südkalifornien wegzudenken sind Temperaturen, die schon die kleinste Bewegung zu einer schweißtreibenden Angelegenheit machen. Vielleicht ein Grund dafür, dass die örtliche Jugend - vermutlich unter dem Einfluss gewisser Substanzen, die berauschende Trips ganz ohne Fortbewegung bescheren -, einst den guten Einfall hatte, Musik zu machen. Diesem Mix aus Wüstenglut, Drogen und Fuzz-Effekten ist der legendäre Stoner Rock von Palm Desert zu verdanken.
Zu den bekanntesten Vertretern der Szene zählen Kyuss, Queens of The Stone Age und natürlich Fu Manchu. 1994 startete die Band mit Frontman Scott Hill, einem ehemaligen kalifornischen Hardcore-Punkrocker, und dem Kultalbum No One Rides For Free durch. Dreißig Jahre später veröffentlichen sie ihre dreizehnte Scheibe The Return of Tomorrow. Mit einer Mischung aus fettem Fuzz-Sound und gemäßigteren Klängen enthüllt das Doppelalbum eine bisher kaum bekannte Seite der Band.
Beim Hellfest heizt Fu Manchu ordentlich ein und verwandelt die Valley-Bühne in ein echtes „Death Valley“.

ENDLICH mal ein Deutscher Konzertmitschnitt bei dem der Sound nicht absolut idiotisch von Musikfremden abgemischt wurde. Wenn man an all die EinsLive oder RockAmRing Mitschnitte der letzten 20 Jahre denkt ist das hier echt eine absolute Wohltat! Danke, dass ihr das endlich auf die Reihe bekommen habt!
Und was hälst du von den Rockpalast Mitschnitten? Beim Freak Valley 2024 Mitschnitt von 1000mods denkt man, der Bass wurde ausgelagert... Bei Slomosa auch
@@fuzzytimeYT Rock Palast ist nach wie vor furchtbar abgemischt! Schlagzeug hat keinen druck, der Bass ist fast immer zu leise, die Gitarren und der Gesang immer viel zu laut. Das scheint mir seit Jahrzehnten die selbe Produktionsfirma zu sein und die haben einfach keine Ahnung wie man Musik richtig abmischt. Hab mir deinen Vorschlag angeschaut und das ist genau das was ich meine. Klingt einfach furchtbar. Hab dort auch gleich meine 3 Sätze gepostet, solltet ihr auch machen.

Seen them with Eddie Glass and Ruben Ramano, and then Brant Bjork, and seen the current lineup many times. One of my favorite bands of all time.

I would live to see them live one day in person. This is probably the only desert rock band that delivers the goods with powerful energy that lifts you up, and they do that year after year after year. What a fantastic crew.
I saw those guys live after the release of there album "in search of" and i knew back then.... i have seen the future of heavy rock and it is called Fu Manchu!
