Even crazier because right now as from what I observed, kz servers are the most played in Counter Strike 1.6 along with Dust2 Only/Classic/Massacre servers. Atleast in my country.
Back in like 2014 I used to play zombie mod servers and those already had lots of add-ons, as time went on servers got worse, adding new textures, models, lighting effects, even new mechanics entirely, is kinda crazy how far the goldsource engine can be pushed.
CS 1.6 originally didn't have the timer stopped when the bomb was planted. It was once CS:CZ was released that they added it. Also, a very few amount of people dubbed CS as 1.7 once CZ got released.

Speaking of configs, they were used to punish cheaters when they wouldn't budge. For example, a such plugin can set the fps_max value to 1 on a client, making the experience much more unbearable. Also, it can bind every key to "kill", when you press it, you'll kill yourself every time in the game. So, instead of banning a cheater, it made the experience as a non-cheater much better.
