19:20 And then, Hefest.. I mean.. William got this run! This video really feels like the type of Videos Wirtual has done a lot for Trackmania, but for surf, and I really like that!
I started surfing on KSF 1 year ago this week, I grinded hard to get where I am now. Throughout my journey as a surfer so far, I would slowly realize with each stretch of time where I would improve, and improve, and keep improving in every facet as a surfer, going from a complete noob to a T2 surfer, then from a T2 to T3, to T4, then to T5, and now T6... that THIS is genuinely an insane video game. It may be the hardest game I know of. And it's just like you say early on in the video: You THINK you're getting really good at the game after a while, only to realize that you're still just dogshit at the game compared to any surfer who is even remotely at the top of the skill pool. The skill ceiling in surf is astronomical, it takes a massive amount of effort to consistently become even just a Group 1- Group 2 surfer. So yes, I do appreciate how immense of a task it is to get a WR, it takes years to reach that level for most people.
I find it interesting that practising from back to front is a valued strategy here. I'm a classical musician and this is one of the most valuable tecniques for getting pieces ready for performance. While working on interpretation and technique you just practise whatever still needs work, but in the end you'll have to perform everything back to back. That's when we also use this approach and it is very effective (but of course also requires great patience as this doesn't include the beautiful developments in the piece and can thus be quite unsatisfying from a musical perspective ^^).
Normally these kinds of videos (sometimes overly so) rely on music, pretty visuals and editing to be entertaining. I was surprised halfway through that there was no music, but I was still interested. By the end, I applaud how well done this is in setting up the difficulty and all the context, explaining everything you need to know and getting to it. Cutting down the dramatics and cinematics for just a good story is def a breath of fresh air, I hope you do well :)
I don’t usually comment on videos, but man… this video deserves everything I can do to help boost it in the algorithm! Astounding video, incredible insight, story-telling, editing and thoroughness! The Wirtual of Surf!
This video feels like the Wirtual of surf. I would watch more videos like this even though i only play bhop and not surf, also was surprised to see that .x is not only one of the best bhoppers in the world but also insane at surf.
Please make more of these! As a long time surfer myself the community needs more technical content to help inspire more skill surfers Fantastic editing and technical breakdown!
I never thought the amount of precision came to counting u/s in the single digits ontop of being only a few units away from the ground or walls as someone who's only played surf very casually. Great visualisation, explanations, and story telling!
I must say that I didn't expect much going into this video since I hadn't seen your channel before. But I'm glad that I did, cuz it was just brilliant from start to finish. All that knowledge combined with really nice visuals really made for a great watch. Only thing I would add, that wasn't mentioned is the factor of nerves. I know some ppl get used to them or don't even feel them anymore while going for records, but for me it was one of the main reasons wrs were hard to get. Anyways great video, enjoyed it a lot!
Honestly i lost my passion for surf about a year ago but this video is made so so good i found myself installing the game after 2.5k hours again. Ty Daxen
i watched a lot of your other videos but this one was crazy good, damn, i hope repster would make stuff like this, it was perfect and thanks n gratz to william
Most underrated youtuber on the planet. How did you get those paths for the records? Did you write the code yourself? This video is next level. I would LOVE more like this on some harder maps.
really clean video, and such great production quality. I really love the fact that both CS and TF2 have such unique movement gamemodes, both CS & TF2 have surf, I've never understood the difference between CS & TF2 surf. TF2 also has rocket jumping & sticky jumping which I do enjoy alot more than surfing however, and some jump maps also have ''jurf'' which is like combining surf & rocket jumping
I think TF2's engine has slightly different airacceleration values, allowing you to hold crouch while turning, other than in CSS, where it just isn't possible. TF2 has bigger models though, making many tight and technical maps harder
I've been surfing on CS since the dawn of time, granted I haven't in a very long time... I was lucky enough to watch Levi live on a few occasions and the difference between even the top 1% and him is staggering, source movement seemingly has a limitless ceiling.
ive gotten a world record (more like a record for the specific game) in bunny hopping, once. i had 2500 hours of experience, and even hours of specifically lj and ssj practice. it took probably 50+ hours on the map in question, and the grind got emotional and maddening. it was a longer map and i remember the pain of choking near the end so many times. surf in comparison still seems like so much more of a beast with the larger community and absolute precision and easier consistency, not needing perfect weird screenshakes for minutes on end like bhop. also a note for anyone, a unit is an inch long, meaning top tier surfers fight for just a few inches faster per second
yes he also has some insane skips that nobody else ever did. But he has more the very precise or strafe intense skips while William is a pure unit monster.
A good breakdown of how things get done. I'd also mention things like air accel in relation to your speed gaining more/less speed and how more accurate key sync can optimize that potential. While not exactly 'air' strafing, strafing on a ramp does also gain speed, from memory
It all started with you, good sir. surf battle #4 Raiin vs. niyhM was the first surf video I've ever seen and your waterworks run made me fall in love with surf. You are an absolute legend. Thanks for your feedback. I wanted to keep it somewhat accessible to a wider audience with focusing on the map route rather than in-depth surf mechanics. But you are absolutely right, surf has a almost scary mechanical depth.
amazing stuff, would love to see similar videos about other popular movement gamemodes like autobhop or 1.6 KZ which both have like 20 years of history.
I was surfing back in 1.6 on this pyramid map, failing it for hours. had the fun of my gamer life. watching this was awesome, but also shows how bad i am.
This has to be the best the best source movement related video I have ever seen, and I am not even a surf player.
It's not just source movement. It's surf movement.
@@cx3622 u good bro surf is on source?
@@cx3622That doesn’t make sense, source movement is more broad than surf, surf is a specific type of source movement.
@@zagrfigein his defence, he said its not „just“ source movement.
Right? I'm a surfer and I feel spoiled
19:20 And then, Hefest.. I mean.. William got this run!

I miss those kinds of videos from him.

Same for me. But this channel has a lot of potential for filling that gap!
Thought the exact same thing
Exactly, it's perfect

These lines make a hell of a difference when trying to understand the routing

Yeah seriously well done video, first time I’ve been on the channel, subbed :p
I knew Source had odd movement tech. I knew people called it surfing and built custom maps for it. I had no clue it was this wildly awesome.
14:39 "crazy end though" LMAO, love it.

thank you for showcasing just how in depth people go with surf

hell yea, watching this whole straight away
Good map choice

This is phenomenal and I wish this kind of video existed years ago
This is awesome bro, you’re so underrated
Most underrated youtuber on the planet. How did you get those paths for the records? Did you write the code yourself? This video is next level. I would LOVE more like this on some harder maps.
he has a video about recording paths
Fantastic video mate
What an amazing video. I play CS 1.6 surf to this day and i wish there was someone making similar videos for it
Totally wild outlook on surf. Not what I was surfing for back in 1.6 but definitely cool to see
really clean video, and such great production quality.

Such uniquely good content! Sort of off-topic but is there a general awareness of codjumper amongst the surf community?
Really cool video. I made a couple maps but I was never very good at surfing.
An absolute banger video, this shit deserves an oscar. Make more 🥺
Wirtual styled videos about history and WRs of CS:S/1.6 kz/bhop/surf/etc might be a hit
