Just discovered the band by looking at Angry Metal Guy. Got blown away. There are no words to describe what I'm feeling, this is such a complex album. Congrats.
Beautiful composition! I honestly have never listened to such a flawless and non-cheesy amalgamation of folk and prog metal. This, to me, is one of those albums that you just can't appreciate if you don't take some time out of your busy schedule to listen to it actively. Great stuff guys! This masterwork of yours made my day.
This is totally awesome pagan/sympho BM guess cross-pollinated by Opeth and some Finns like Kalmah, but in their other songs there is indeed a bit of prog
I absolutely adore this album. It's my favourite kind of music: metal, symphonic elements, sensitive acoustic parts, beautiful singing and incredibly good melodies. If you ever get a chance to come to Finland to play a show, I'll definitely be there!
Same! And as someone who has a Wilderun influenced as fuck orchdeath project I GUARANTEE you thats the number one place they wanna play dude. That's where our market really is haha. I know its the case for me. Also my best Finnish friend Eetu is there soooo
Your bro is cool as fuck. Drove 9 hours from Atlanta to St Louis (under 21 not allowed dates were nearly ubiquitous) to meet him and see this shit performed live. One of the best things I've ever done haha.
i heard you guys yesterday on folk metal radio, while i was driving back to home. At the end of the song i started to clap my hand alone in the car til the traffic light from red become green. (some people might though that i were a bit off) 9,29 of powefull but so damn fluid music i didn't realized it was that long. It is a pleasure to listen this piece of art. Cheers from Italy
Same in every way. My band Proliferation opened up for them when I helped them book a show up here in Atlanta. They fucking mopped the floor with us as expected haha. Best live band I've ever seen.
yo Wilderun, don't know if you'll ever see this comment, but I finally convinced my supervisor at work to play this song over the intercom. i work in a warehouse with people from all corners of the earth and there wasn't a single soul who wasn't jamming along. even my 45 y/o Nigerian evangelical coworker who's built like a cinderblock was banging his head to it. thanks guys \m/
This is one of my favourite metal albums of all time. I dare even say it ranks almost as high as Master of Puppets (for me, that is). Absolutely adore this album from front to back, and looking forward to more work like this. Amazing.
I haven't seen anyone say this in the comments, so I'll start. I think Pale Communion is an excellent album and that Opeth's late work doesn't suck at all. Heritage was a gateway to Pale Communion, that's why it may feel a little weaker than its predecessors. You should also consider seeing Opeth live before saying anything.
Well... this blew my mind, holy fuck guys, randomly stumbled on Angry Metal Guy's page because of Batushka which I stumbled upon randomly yesterday, love the Yt recommend section, getting your album asap :D
i'm loving the new album guys !!! but i would really like if someone could upload the song and so opens the earth it would be very cool because i think it is my favourite song off the new album cheers again from australia
+James Peterson Already knew and love Ne Obliviscaris (will see them swingin' this Monday :3). But fucking thank you for Xanthochroid! Reminds me of another Progressive Melodic Black whatever band from Israel called "Winterhorde". With their second album I learned what the word "concept album" actually means. Speaking of concept albums: Another good (and progressive) one is "Jeremias - Foreshadow of Forgotten Realms" by the Austrian band called "Circle Of Illusion". Got them to know by the song "New Age". They're fantastic, too. So, now it's your turn. Give me more! :D

The entire 9 minutes manages to keep that amazing level up too and even raises it as it gets more and more fucking insane. Love these guys so fuckin much ahaha
I still think they have the same emotional impact on Pale Communion that they did on Watershed but hey buddy we all have different sets of ears haha I always have agreed with new Opeth detractors that Heritage was a MAJOR step down tho.
VegaArchAngel I've been disappointed by the past two Opeth albums, still bought them, but I understand them "moving on" with their sound. Most bands usually come back to it (Dark Tranquillity, Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride) -- but it's so late in Opeth's career that I fear they won't get that return to the old blackened death that is the ONLY reason I ever became to appreciate harsh vocals.
demoncleaner80 I remember reading somewhere that Mikael has pretty much lost his voice, which is why they've changed so drastically, so if they do return to their old form it would most likely be with a new vocalist, but I can't really imagine Opeth without him.
I WISHHH But I really dont think so They didnt pass their crowdfunding goal by too many thousands of dollars so it looks like they're mainly using that to do a tour of the United States. Be sure and catch them if they come near you!! :) Alkaloid on the other hand... (Obscuras songwriters new band if you dont recognize the name)... They surpassed their crowdfunding goal by quite a lot and ARE making a LP version of their new album that was only originally for CD and itll be out on Hammerheart Records eentually
I honestly have mixed feelings about this. The folk parts are absolutely amazing. The progressive parts are absolutely amazing. But, they don't really feel integrated, and at a first listen to the song it feels like two different songs slapped together. This is the first song I'm hearing from you guys ever though so don't take this criticism too seriously please. You do your thing, if it confuses me then that's my problem because there are obviously people loving it in the comment section.
Songs on this album aren't meant to be listened to individually, you need to power through the album start to finish. At the end you'll realise it's probably the best crafted album you've ever had the pleasure of hearing.
Agreed with KingBlazer at least give it one front to back try if you haven't because the flow and the way the themes are utilized and round themselves out is absolutely UNPARALLELED. I can't think of another album that is structured thematically better than this one. Not one. But I understand your point of view and appreciate that you said your comment respectfully as fuck and not like a complete dick hahaha
Its like if Jeremy Soule(composer of the music for The Elder Scrolls games) wrote music for Opeth.
Well said tbh
This is so damn good, I almost thought they were Finnish!
lmaoooooooo
Just discovered the band by looking at Angry Metal Guy. Got blown away. There are no words to describe what I'm feeling, this is such a complex album. Congrats.
Complex harmonically especially. Goals af.

You know a song is good when 9 minutes pass by like nothing
Accurate beyond fuck

Well I'll be damned, this came nearly out of nowhere for me.
Absolutely phenomenal stuff!
Truly adore those epic symphonic sections like 5:10. Incredibly epic
Right tho
Fuckin absurdly good. Two years later and this song still gives me chills.

Just met the band. Already in love. Congrats guys!
:)
A redefinintion of a genre, new folk metal born in the US you guys are awesome!
This is so much more prog death/prog black imo but ok
oh yeah, totally agree!
Wait a minute whoa I just noticed your name are you Jons brother? haha :P
I am :-)

Awesome music. Can't wait for the album to be released
Such an epic song...was lucky enough to share the stage with these guys in Orlando. Super humble talented musicians. keep it up fellas!!!!

I love when black metal is mixed with folk.
+Jamie Wand folk metal developed out of black :)
True folk is black
This is one of my favourite metal albums of all time. I dare even say it ranks almost as high as Master of Puppets (for me, that is). Absolutely adore this album from front to back, and looking forward to more work like this. Amazing.
Oh it's definitely classic status
Such an epic outro! I love Wilderun!
Yay! Thanks!

Absolutely incredible
Some sections remind me a bit of Bal-Sagoth. Epic!
Blodu ok Jarna!

Newp, I saw a lot of Pale Communion hate comments so I decided to post this.
OPETH>NAPALM DEATH
INFINITELY AGREED WITH THIS COMMENT
Whoever says Pale Comm sucks is deaf, has a shitass stereo and shouldn't listen to music anymore.
Please come to Indonesia

Amazing.
Thanks Kyle!
I can't stop listening to this song! The chills are so intense I can actually feel physical strength exiting, fuck!
This
This is epic movie music...and so much more.
Well put
This is proof that metal is not dead.
Butthole Butthole Why would you need proof? It hasn't ever been close to dead.
I agree.
Butthole Butthole
who say its dead?
666Winterdemon666 Idiots do
+Butthole Butthole "dead" for the surface metal yeah, but if you go deeper, it's pretty much alive and more shine than surface
Decir que es una joya y una maravilla es quedarse muy corto.
i'm loving the new album guys !!! but i would really like if someone could upload the song

Marty Wolter RUclips autouploaded the whole album mate :)
7:12 is just too beautiful
Perfection
Progressive Symphonic Death/Folk Metal with Technogrind and Dubstepcore influences!!! Great!!!
its more like unprogressive vegetarian slamgrindcore with death/black/jazz roots
Cheers from the middle east :)
Found this song on my old iPod I used to use in 5th grade
As soon as I get paid I am buying this album. I am speechless as to how amazing it is. Its like if Opeth never stopped sucking and played more folk.
Also check out Ne Obliviscaris and Xanthochroid if you never have ;)
TrashMetal26
try the new album veritas by dekadent. i think you will like it. dead mountain for a example is a breathtaking song.
666Winterdemon666 agreed, great album. Dead Mountain has some mind-blowing moments

Drowning in the sea of dust and crooked thoughts!!!!!
You finally learn that it was not you, for whom I fought!!!!!
HOLYSHIT
The first two seconds remind me of Dream Theater's »Honor Thy Father«. Coincidence? Anyways… incredibly good song, awesome album!
so goooood
Fantastic album, would love to find the guitars tabs :)
Dear Wilderun, when will you upload another song from this album?
Oh fock that intro, amazing
The entire 9 minutes manages to keep that amazing level up too and even raises it as it gets more and more fucking insane.
Love these guys so fuckin much ahaha
I'm trying to learn these songs for myself but I literally have no clue what key it is in and what mode, if anyone knows that would be of great help!
The fact that Opeth sucks so much now hurts a little bit less after discovering this album.
I still think they have the same emotional impact on Pale Communion that they did on Watershed but hey buddy we all have different sets of ears haha
I always have agreed with new Opeth detractors that Heritage was a MAJOR step down tho.
James Peterson Heritage was miles better than Pale Communion though ;-).

Semi perfect cell? Is that you on vocals?!
Hello, Is there going to be a vinyl release?
I WISHHH
But I really dont think so

Have a good one! :)

wow, opeth isn't dead! they just changed their name and became even more awesome. jk love the music. def buying.
I love all their albums, prog rock and metal is a good mix like this song here has lots of influences. Truely amazing!!!
👏
Holy Masshole... I gotta go find my credit card.

More commonly drunk art, but yes sometimes!

i cant believe the copied the final boss theme from The Adventures of Link for NES. Pretty cool though. But they should give the credit.
