Eh...not yet. They need to learn to put heavier elements in there more frequently. Opeth wins on growls and music that's simply brutal. And Mike's growls are the cream of the crop and still better than this dude's.
This is the best symphonic metal I've ever heard. Most of the genre is completely tired cliche garbage (looking at you, Nightwish, Epica, Therion, Xandria etc), but Wilderun's progressive death metal take on the genre is a breath of fresh air and truly excellent. This was my AOTY in 2019 and it still sounds as superb as back then.
@@nyckelhypa I've seen Epica and Wilderun live in concert multiple times. I actually hung out with Mark Jansen and the entire Wilderun band while on 70k of metal cruise. Ya but you know better than me🤣🤣🤦♂️
I consider myself a religious Opeth fan, so I’ve tried to get into this band. I haven’t quite been able to “catch” them yet, but I know what I’m hearing is awesome.
They have an almost "toss a coin to your witcher" folky vibes on top of the opeth songwriting, that's the thing. Actually, the first album didn't sound similar to Opeth at all... this one is just as prog but also just as death metal as ghost reveries that's why everyone is saying it's similar to opeth
What an epic masterpiece of an album, & for me this track is the best of an absolutely outstanding track list. Can't wait to see these guys live. They are in my opinion getting stronger & stronger with every release. Amazing stuff.
My brother just showed me this and I can't stop listening to it omg I get major devin townsend vibes, even some Ghost vibes at times. Absolutely fantastic piece of music.
@@Wilderunband The comment was really for the new listeners that stumbled across you like I did. I never knew you replied Wilderun so rather late but you're very much welcome. Abit awkward knowing now you might see it but I'm too old for fandom so take my comments as genuine and not really for you.
After the new band honey moon phase is over. I can say Wilderun is my favourite band still making music and in my top 50 of greatest bands of all time. To me most bands best albums are at the start and then decline, Wilderun are the opposite so I'd advise starting with Epigone (their latest) and working backwards. Other than the singers style of singing the comparisons to Opeth aren't correct. Wilderun are much more varied, colourful and frankly more interesting in their song structures. They have monk backing singers, five songs that are actually one, sea shanties! first album (I dislike these to be honest) but the comparison isn't fair they aren't a copy at all. Suggested tracks Woolgather Passenger Zero Summer When the fire and rose were one. Linger. I was right at the start a wonderous, marvelous band.
I am reminded mostly here of Novembers Doom and Subterranean Masquerade, in the Paul Kuhr years. Opeth too. Wilderun have a good thing going on this third album.

yes, very strong indeed, very progressive, very much what opeth was. but after listening 5 times to the album in 2 days, i can say i liker more the previous efforts, the pirate themes were just unique, nobody could ever come with something like garden of fire or ash memory. this one? opeth already came out with it unfortunately. great album, just not what i was looking for! still gonna play the hell out of it, thank you wilderun!
They have their own sound moreso now than ever before. This is borderline indesputable. The pirate stuff leaned heavily also but on Turisas. And honestly Opeth is the better band I feel like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
My initial impressions of this song almost tend to reflect the burden of consciousness we carry as human beings compared to the rest of nature. I could be way off-base, though... Haven't dug deep into the lyrics yet.
the transition from Scentless Core to this song is probably the best transition I've heard in all of music history

Damn that was a smart move of Wilderun or CM to do that then
