I enjoyed seeing the abandoned Soviet settlement of Pyramiden. Nice to see the interiors of the buildings, like a 'time capsule'. The movie was 'sci - fi', mystery and travelogue combined. Thanks for the movie.

Drama horror mystery sci fi thriller
I love this movie. I ve on Svalbard myself and also visited Barentsburg and the (almost) deserted town of Pyramiden. I am glad to see that the film did invest some some money to partly clean up some deserted buildings in Pyramiden.

Found this completely by accident this morning. Clicked on it just to read what it was about, but instead started watching and was absolutely hooked. Amazing cinematography, incredible atmosphere and so well acted that I totally bought into the characters. Well done and well worth a watch.

@@jenniferrich7176 I get how a lot of people would hate the ending, but it ended the way I expected. Cover-ups can't really have any witnesses. 2 people can keep a secret as long as one of them is dead. Lol
The movies seems incomplete
Arctic Void is a quality product. As noted, it has good photography and great locations. The unusual plot grabs you. The explanation of the disappearances is plausible. For me, the sole fault is in the ending. Happy or sad, an ending should not leave you hanging; after all, you've just spent an hour plus watching and wondering what the outcome will be.

In reality is there an ending? Realistic till the end. Yes, we are all destined to be left hanging.
The outcome is that those in power who experimented on the people led him on to believe he was being retrieved or rescued and his sole responsibility was simply to document in film the effects of the experiment. He was a loose end to them, now useless but holding too much information.
Nope. That ending was probably the best they could have chosen. There was no way at all that the government wouldn't kill every man on that team to cover up their screw up. The last guy is lucky they shot their soldier before debriefing him. Bc now at least he has a fighting chance. That phone call was just a check.
This movie made me fart more than "Waiting for Godot".
What a great movie. I thought it was going to be the same old well worn monster tripe horror flick. It turned out to be more of a “documentary” of sorts. It depicts the horrors the worlds governments and militaries inflict on populations all around the world. In this case sonic weapons or in other cases perhaps vaccines? Very well done film! I love the location!
What makes you think it's the govt and militaries with so surety ?? Some says it's aliens, some call it supernatural etc etc, how are you so sure ? According to me govt and militaries know nothing about it, they just rely on technology, and get satisfied with whatever is provided to them, they control nothing... but people who controls can put anything they seems correct in your mind, mostly when they have a film releasing on the topic, if it's an supernatural film they will make you believe in supernatural, similarly for alien or govt or militaries...or you can say they initiate by brain washing the filmmakers head and then it spreads.
For the un-smart ones. The whale meat was infected, that is why his friend threw up after eating it, the camera man and the redheaded guy didn't eat it, so they only had to deal with the other killers at play, which to not spoil it, watch the movie to find out.
No need to insult anyone if they don't know or understand something. We're all ignorant to some extent. Noone knows everything.
Not a fantasy or horror film as it's stated. It's a suspense movie, very well acted.
The suspense was how anyone calls it "horror".

I loved the old Soviet buildings, very nostalgic if your Russian. The end is a little predictable, but it’s still worth a bag of popcorn 🍿 on a cold night 👍

Yes,and I liked the part when they were drinking the iced tea and making believe it was whiskey.....Luckily there was no ugly intimate scene between anyone and the homely red-headed step-child of some poor family from a mid-west trailer park....
@@stephenmcgraw8871 Shucks, I must have missed the iced tea part. I loved the curious what's for lunch sneaking, snooping in the lunch box. Then quickly hiding the fact like naughty kids when the guy came back to the table.

When it first started, I noticed that they were in Svalbard which is located in Norway, which is also where the Global World Seed Vault is located. The seed vault has some of the best protection in the world, not only is it cold, but there are the polar bears, so nobody in their right minds would want to break into it. The good thing is that there are no snakes, because they would freeze to death, oh yeah, and no mosquitos either.
No mosquitos? They are loco in the summer.

a lot of seeds are only good for 2 years, so idk if they constantly replace them or if they freeze them

@@thomaspaulose1545 the hired camera man whom admitted to moonlighting for another subcontracted employer... he died from being snipered. His ride didnt come to take him, let alone the brother who survived holding his brother Mercey... home.
? Said moonlit employer...aware of possible survivors. ???? Dunno. If the sniper was just deployed with out RECON..then no i dont think the subcontracted moonlighting employer knew/knows.
Which leaves the brother who survived in an odd and dangerously stranded position and could be the other part of this movie. So i hope like hell they dont just leave us viewers stuck, like huh. (all seeking answers to our current bazzaro world events, strangely similar to acid reflux, a Southpark, Beavis n butt head, roger rabbit mix of horrible real like wtf times of what i call "last yr" 2020 and currently still playing reruns 2023 cough cough....dig-nipah! ....im so threw with adult animation...fire the writers asap.)

Interesting, good. Mystery continues throughout. Had to use my noodle to think back about ashore things at the ending.
Spoiler alert: many people liked the movie enough to probe with questions. I did too.
.... my understanding- experiment vibrational weapon was designed to hopefully cause symptoms of aches and vomiting on a mass level, but instead disintegrated humans (wouldn't allow for easy cover ups)- and openly effected animals but different way. A select wave frequency was used through a device for avoidance of the weapon's effects for select individuals. The experiment is done in a far-off place, of course. A base associated with administrating the experiment was set up at the village nearby. A cat and mouse game at the village, one or more individuals monitored activities of the survivors- the tv, record player led the survivors to monitoring areas- the bowl of soup was for entertainment for the bad person/people. The gathering of data was concluded, and an able sniper would eliminate the survivors. The annoying creepy phone on the wall ringing was for more entertainment for the bad guy.
The last survivor may have had a chance to get to the boat, but likely find it disabled if making it there. The one phone in the floating bag became the only hope of exposing the event, the other would connect the husband/dad. The last guy had a drink from his flask at the end.
@@strangebiped At first, I thought virus in animal meat from toxic manmade dumping or something alien, and syfy whale communication could somehow save the world. I loved the scenery and actors. Became bewildered, not so much after learning it was filmed in 19 days. Then curious to solve the mystery, of which I normally don't do. ☺

"disintegrated", yes, literally.
A crucial moment is at 21:00 when Sean is filming on deck, and notices a flock of seagulls behaving oddly, and he looks around wondering where everybody around him has gone to. I find this immediate 'disintegration', the unforeseen by-effect of the weapon, far-fetched- there was absolutely nothing left of the other passengers and crew members, no clothes, no ashes-- except their belongings like notebooks and backpacks. Like they Raptured... It doesn't fit the story!
And why did Ray and Sean never develop the terminal sickness that struck Alan? At what moment was Alan hit - or partially - by the weapon's ray? Sean should have disappeared too, leaving his camera on the deck. He must have known about the weapon. Was he outfitted by the Russians (yes, many Cyrillic texts in that coalmine town!) with some sort of protection?
The answer to many of your questions is in the last 20 minutes of the movie....their survival was all in the "headphones."

Ray puts on headphones for long enough time to save him fully- enough counter vibration, inoculation time against the attack on neural function (unaware what it is). Gives headphones to Alan, Alan cut short (partial dose) because Sean returns. 1:04:07 sonic weapon attacks neural function, supposed to disorientate and vomit but vaporizes. 1:05:23 headphones a countering vibration like an inoculation. 1:05:37 Ray listened more than Alan. Earlier 59:13 Sean tried to help Alan putting the headphones on him, but it didn't save him. The small dose at the boat table was just a tad; enough to reduce effects to Alan to avoid being vaporized but instead led to a slow death. Sean and Ray have full countering vibration inoculation for their brain neurons. ☺

Absolutely great movie, I'm just a little confused by the end with the phone ringing and the guy still there with the rifle. I thought there was gonna be some shooting at that point since they knew where he was.

Phew, when a movie makes me think of Tarkovski's Stalker I know the makers are taking their art seriously.
Twenty five minutes into the movie and it's getting creepy. I had come across "Bear Island" by Alistar MClain almost 30 years ago and have always been interested in these stories set in Svalbard and the surrounding areas. It looks good so far...
It's different. With recognition that all the people out on deck of ship are gone and there is electric power in the town - things get mysterious and grim. There are the lights turned on at the hotel - someone is there watching them as they struggle to get out.
...and 15 minutes into it, I was getting sleepy........Luckily,after I woke up,it was almost over....

Eh, not as bad as some of the comments made. The ending is pretty spot on imo for what those in power are capable of when they experiment on the people, as well as how they clean up their loose ends. You know like a few in the USA in recent years touted as having committed suicide with say more than one gunshot wound to the head.

I was in all those rooms and thanks to the filmmoney they look a lot better i.e. renovated even. Hopefully they also went to the hotel bar after shooting (yes, oitside of winter there is a small hotel and a hotel bar there!!)

An independently produced film intended for an adult audience (adult meaning having the attention span and the maturity of an adult). This film takes the time to provide sufficient background and setting information, but when the "stuff" hits the fan, things quickly go downhill and leave the viewer yelling, "What? Why? What just happened?"...which is the hook of the film.
Not sure? Look and listen for a minute @2:06. If the hauntingly beautiful cinematography and soundtrack don't get you interested, it's probably not the film for you. This film has unexpectedly excellent production quality.

Enjoyed to the end. A mystery is a mystery. We don't need to know all the logics. And it could be our future lost in the mystery. I loved the music, too. Wish I knew the titles.

As I feared, the movie is actually about saving the whales.
So, the damaged animals were injured but did ot disappear for the same reason as did/didn't the man. The man only heard part of the tape recording and so he was only partially innoculated against the vibration-brain-cranium weapon, which I will refer to here as 'vibranium". The other man claimed the sound on the tape was similar to whalesong. Therefore, the present-but-damaged animals were similarly partially innoculated by their lifelong exposures to ACTUAL whalesong from the sea. Also, the mysterious villains gave him an old tape machine when they could have just put the sound on his iPhone, why? Because they REALLY needed to throw us off the actual plot and further down the aurora borealis plot hole mentioned by the geek on the boat. Take comfort in the scientific fact that vibrations which make people and the clothing they are wearing disapper, would necessarily have made other fabrics and materials disappear; but it did not (major plot hole having gloves and backpacks remain behind). Now, about the whales. Jim mentioned leagalized whaling, they ate whale, and the cure to saving their lives was a large dose of whalesong. Three save-the-whales points makes a save-the-whales theme. Now, excuse me while I go watch an episode of Gutfeld!.
So you're going from whales to watch a pig squealing its mad head off.

A mi me encanta el freo, el yelo, la nieve, el viento, la solidad y la escurridad. Esta película me gustaría si era sola la photografia y la locación. Tuve que ver la película en Inglés, porque la traducción a Español no era muy buena donde estoy. Pero me gustó la película.
