Unpopular opinion i actually love this game and had tons of hours of fun with it.
Cities Skylines is horribly optimized and doesn't really have any charm. SimCity at least runs and has that classic Sims charm. In optimal conditions, yeah Cities Skylines is the superior, bigger game, but i've had way less issues playing SimCity than CS.

Finally someone who shares my opinion! I loved this Sim City game, I've spent many hours playing when it released. The only thing that really ruined it was the small map. You just couldn't move past a certain point due to the limited space. Everything else was great tho, much better than Skylines imo. I always get roasted saying this but for me Skylines has no charme whatsoever. Worse graphics, less possibilities and options for many things and just generally less vibrant :/

I always wished they would have merged SimCity and The Sims. Like, take the city builder tools from SimCity to let us create/customize our own Sims worlds (especially the roadways, add in shopping districts, etc.) and auto-populate with some default buildings that we could then zoom in and customize with The Sims building tools. I always thought that would have been awesome.

One thing TS4 has lacked from day one is world building- 8 years on and we still can't even add trees or lots to the existing worlds. I'd like to see more world customisation in TS5- and natural disasters! Imagine Eliza Pancakes being melted by a volcano 👀

From Trailer homes, Brownstones, Tiny cheap Motels and NYC 19th century Hotels to American 4-over-ones to Art Deco Commercial Towers all the way to Prefab Tenements this games really has the best set of buildings in the modern City Sims sphere. Its so much easier to create an aesthetically and unique pleasing City in this compared to Skylines. This video really doesnt fo it justice to how good it can be. (Skystormes and Dr. Proofs collective over twohundred part LPs showcase the high and lows of the game respectivley. If you have a month of free time I highly recommend them both [Though I reccomend to skip the first 9 episodes of DPs LP because thats just him learning the game before the time skip if you dont care about Paskal himself and his character])

The best SimCity game, in my opinion, is SimCity 4. It had regions that you customized the land and then built various sizes of cities and could share power, etc with cities. Also you could moves sims in from The Sims game and they’d tell you about their lives in the city/region you built. This SimCity game does have regions and shares resources (you don’t have to build a school in each city, they’ll commute to whichever one in the region has a school, same with workplaces and shopping....you can literally build a city that’s just residential and they’ll commute), but you can’t move sims in...although they do share info if you click on them. Cities Skylines does this through the little bird app where you hear from the citizens. The reason this version of SimCity did so poorly wasn’t the small city building space or simplified menus (which was done because it was felt the games had become too complex to gain new players). It did so poorly because originally you could ONLY play it online and you could ONLY play in one city spot and then other online players built in the others in the region. That’s all fine and well if everyone is playing at the same time, but when you’re not online together then it makes growing and developing your city a slow process. The fact is most people who play games like The Sims, SimCity, Cities Skykines, etc play them by themselves in their own time and enjoy being creative. Imagine your hobby is painting, but you can only advance your painting when others also painting. You can’t do much by yourself. You’d get to where you’d likely not paint very often and go off to do something else. That’s what SimCity players did. Whenever I couldn’t do much with this game I either went and played an older version of SimCity, player some other video game, or went and did something else (read a book, write, play music, listen to music, draw, watch a movie or tv show, etc). There are certainly things about the game I like. And I still own it and now that you can play it without an online connection and don’t have to have others playing in the region to do anything, it’s a fun game for what it is. I still play it occasionally whenever I am not wanting to do anything as advanced as Cities Skylines or whenever I just want to play around with features that are in the game that don’t really exist in Cities Skylines. I had a boyfriend a few years ago who had it on his computer and one of the things we’d do when spending time together was work on individual cities in a region and have them interconnect. It was a lot more fun than the online game feature ever was because we could literally jump between our various cities and each do something to better the region and work on regional projects together in real time rather than like back when it was online only and you might start sending stuff to the regional project and be the only one. The downsides to the game all stem from the fact that the game was designed around being an online only game...much like The Sims 4 was originally going to be as well. Thankfully this version of SimCity showed why making all genres of video games as online games isn’t a good idea and they changed course with The Sims 4 where they could. Do I wish they’d bring the SimCity franchise back? Yes! It’s quirky like The Sims and in some cases is where some references in The Sims comes from (Malcolm Landgraab began in SimCity 3000 and Landgraab as a name was first used in SimCity 2000 for some companies names of buuldings). I love Cities Slylines, don’t get me wrong, but I wouldn’t mind having SimCity back as well. They’re both very different city building games and I don’t think they’d have to compete against each other in any major ways. I’d happily play them both just like I play lots of other games that are similar to each other due to their genres.
The megatowers were this version’s take on SimCity 2000’s arcologies. In essence they’re cities in a building.
I think its funny that you mentioned The Wall and associated it with Dubai, UAE when it’s actually being built by Saudi Arabia. I guess it goes to show that Dubai has a reputation for doing such kinds of projects (whether that’s a good or bad thing to have a reputation for).
    Great quick review video!

The fact that it had to be played on line only or it wouldn’t work was what destroyed Sims City. Glitches and bugs could be worked out but from day one this games servers couldn’t support many players at once. So people literally bought a game that didn’t function.

Modular buildings and managing your finances and growth was fun when you got it right as oppossd to just plopping new buildings all over the place.
They planned on expanding on city borders and if Maxis wasn't shut down I wonder what kind of DLC they could have come up with for this game. EA in fact pushed Maxis to have an online requirement. Killed the game. Them shut them down. It was really sad...

After 4 games in which you could build giant monstrosities/megalopolis, this is like sc4 but forcing you to develop smaller towns, focusing on how they interact with eachother even more than how sc4 already did. And btw SimCity will always be a series about urban planning and "simulation", cities skylines is 90% aesthetics.

Very poor review. You are playing it all wrong. Being impatient and plopping everything down is not how it's done. It takes a good amount of time to grow your city correctly. Balancing all parameters along the way. Your use of space is appalling. Wasting a good majority that you are complaining about not having. All that green, unused, wasted space could be filled with thriving industry, commercial or residential. I believe the lack of respect you give this game is your detriment. It has been around longer than you. I first installed it on my Amiga when it was originally released. Evolving along the way, enjoying it for many years to come. Please revisit this game, take your time. I'm sure if you do you'll thoroughly enjoy it. Start with nothing, end up with everything.

It's not like he was intending to go back and play it often, so why would he bother trying to build it up nicely, balance things out, or grow the city, just for a ten minute video? He played differently than you do, that doesn't make his playing style inferior to yours. And maybe unlike you he actually wanted greenspace in and around his city rather than simply having it be an entire industrial or residential hellhole.
