The years go by. But time cannot fade that voice that genius. Timeless music that captures a new generation every cycle. All the greatest voices are now gone with a few exceptions. Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Elvis Presley, Jackie Wilson and of course Marvin Gaye. We will never see taht kind of talent ever again. There isnt a single singer today in their class. Thats why we can never let go.

I loved this doc, not just because it covers Sam Cooke's life & artistry, but because it includes so much of the context at the time: other Black artists, amazing footage from different Black communities including church communities, & aspects of white America's racism & the ongoing Civil Rights movement. Makes his achievements so much more profound when you see the struggle involved, how hard he had to work & how much he had to overcome in a world that was structured to silence & exclude his extraordinary voice. Amazing to think that all the people who tried to silence him are long gone & forgotten, whereas his voice & his words are still with us & will live on forever.

This was well presented..keeping Sam Cooke's life journey in context with the social & moral issues in America during his time. It seems appropriate that he came from a gospel group called 'The Soul Stirrers ',,, because his wonderful voice did just that...stirred the soul. You can't truly sing 'Soul' music unless you believe you have a soul..you may get it right 'technically'..but it will leave the listener empty. Sam, like all of us may not have had a spotless personality....but he couldn't have written 'A Change is gonna come' without digging deep enough to express his soul. He had style, class, talent & business smarts.

I think he was set up lured and murdered by the FBI and the CIA because during those times of social unrest , his social influence was growing to much and too big , so much so it would fuel the civil rights movement more than the white racist government could control to their liking. So they used a beautiful black woman who likely was with the FBI and or CIA to take him out and use that woman as the fall guy , then faked her death 18 months later, gave her a new identity until she died in the 90's. May she and them rot in hell. The change is already here . And nothing can stop it . It's over for them . Yahushua has stepped in .

Even today's least black music (in comparison to Jazz, Rock-n-Roll, Blues, etc.) is popular all over the world with even Iraqis doing rap. And of course there are white rappers everywhere. Mostly talentless fame hungry fools. Who have no art, nothing REAL to contribute to our culture. Just play the fame game and get all they can out of it. He should have been number 1. The difference was the Muhammad Ali had the Nation of Islam to protect him. Sam was on his own amongst gangters. Google the death picture of Sam Cooke where you will see him slumped on the floor where the police are said to have found him. "Rolling Stone" magazine ranks Sam as the 4th greatest vocalist of all-time (should've been number 1) and though Hendrix outranks him on their overall top artists list at number 6 while Sam ranks 16th, his overall impact is undeniable... the Rolling Stones idolized him, Rod Steward wanted to be him, and so forth.

I love the song. I find the lyrics to "Long Time Coming" to be, stylistically, kind of interesting. I can hear them as either black Afro-American vernacular, or the language of white Europeans when they are being intentionally poetic. Am I the only one who hears that, who thinks that? Am I hearing things? For example "and just like the river I've been runnin', every since. Seems to be that a black person might choose to say "running" rather than "flowing," in ordinary every day speech, and perhaps choose "flowing" if they were writing instead of speaking, and at the same time, a white person might choose to say "running" instead of "flowing," especially if they were writing poetry, or a lyric, or if he were trying to sound a bit poetic. Black vernacular: "it's been too hard living" as opposed to the more white "living has been too hard." But at the same time it seems to me that it may also be common to say it this way in white vernacular, when the speaker is trying to sound a bit poetic, rather than just using plain speech. Perhaps the white person may put a pause after the word _hard,_ a comma. Am I hearing things? You tell me. I love the song. I love Sam Cooke's work with the Soul Stirrers. I don't much like his pop music offerings. I'm a 1948 model. I heard Sam Cooke's pop recordings in the 1960's and I never much liked them. I didn't hear "Long Time Coming" until I hear it Spike Lee's _Malcom X._ I never heard the Soul Stirrers until a few months ago. Both things completely changed by feelings about Sam Cooke.
