Can we take a moment to appreciate Jane? Plus, she and her father have one of the more healthy child/parent relaitonship in Disney movies.

Having him sing the songs in every langage for each country was a first ! AND the score by Mark Mancina (Twister, Speed 1 and 2...) is SO underrated. It is so intense and EPIC. I DO believe he was more suited for Tarzan than the usual Alan Menken type of score.
I love how Tarzan's adaptive behavior is so central to the story from when he was a child. His mimicking animal sounds, learning to move like a gorilla, mimicking Jane's speech, mimicking the other humans speech and behavior, etc..
This is why this is my favourite Disney movie ever: a film centred on Tarzan could have easily been all brawn and physical feats, but instead it was about how open Tarzan was to learning from others, accepting someone despite their differences, and having compassion even for your enemies. It's a beautiful message (similar to the message behind Hercules really, another 'brawny' character who was all about the 'size of his heart' being his defining quality)
Kala is a great and incredible adopted mother to Tarzan, and she didn't care if Tarzan was a human she truly loved him for he was. And Tarzan is so lucky to have a wonderfull adopted mother like Kala in his life.
You might not care, but if you do, it's actually adoptive, not adopted. Adopted is for the person who was adopted, adoptive is for the person who does the adopting.
Kala is amazing! But I think that her insisting that Tarzan was like her instead of showing him that he is indeed different, but that is not a bad thing was kind of a mistake on her part, but just because she didn’t know how to deal with his differences.

I absolutely love the showdown with Clayton, especially when he tells Tarzan to "be a man", and the response is "Not a man like you." For a movie all about making choices and figuring out who and where you're supposed to be it's a very powerful message. Also I noticed you called Terk a he, but actually she's a she! She's played by the famous comedian Rosie O'Donnell, and her full name is Terkana, lol
The music in this movie impacted my childhood. Phil Collins is a wonderful musician. He packed the songs with such deep meaning, every line in Son of Man is a life lesson
It wasn’t this film (I was too young to really appreciate the music when the film came out as I was only four), but his work four years later on Brother Bear got me into him
@@RYMAN1321 same for me who was 6 when the movie came out. I recognized his voice only in " Brother's bear " because like with Tarzan, Phil Collins sings the soundtrack in the french version

In order to do the vine surfing scenes Disney had to develop a specific cg method to integrate 2d and 3d animation known as Deep Canvas. This same method was later used extensively in Treasure Planet. On a side note, Deep Canvas is particularly expensive and time consuming to use and was one of the reasons the Disney higher ups did not like the Treasure Planet project (which wound up being one of the most expensive animated movies Disney ever released)
I like how the branches and environment are cg models, the artists hand paint the models so it still has the painted look (like the clouds on Olympus in Hercules), side note I like how you can visually tell Clayton is the human villain by his coloring (his jacket is the same as Sabors main fur) and the first time we see him the shadows from the treetops on him resemble spots similar to Sabors.
I did not even think of that. I always forget how coloring plays a role in that. Oh wait, does that mean Jane and her dad wearing yellow is a misdirect? They are seen as villains as first, but aren’t. That is when their colors change. Jane begins wearing red and white when she gets more comfortable with Tarzan and is not wearing the “villain” color so to speak.
@@gabrielleduplessis7388 The coloring of Clayton's neckerchief is similar to Sabors tongue as well, but I didnt even think about Janes color changing to separate her from Clayton that's really cool
This movie means so much to me. As someone who was adopted as a baby with very little contact with my birth mom and not knowing my biological father at all..... This movie has a huge piece of my heart, especially the rawness with which they portrayed the love between Kala and Tarzan. Thank you for reacting to this!
Most Disney movies went hard when it came to the soundtrack and Phil Collins understood the assignment. Growing older I grow to understand that Kerchak wasn't as antagonistic as a character as you'd see him from a child's eyes, instead he's a leader who can't afford to show weakness in order to protect the group, but he also has to quietly grieve his beloved son - who he likely watched get mauled by Sabor and spared Kala the sight - while Kala brought in a human, which he seems familiar of their threat, expecting him to treat him like another son. He of course held onto his grudge a long time, but with Tarzan taking the fall for others he inadvertently inflated Kerchak's scapegoating, all the way up until Tarzan kills Sabor. Despite being robbed of revenge for his son, while Tarzan unwittingly avenges his biological parents, Kerchak became more willing to accept Tarzan from there, but then he started hanging around more humans searching for them, he gave Tarzan a responsibility to protect the family and he betrayed that trust and then physically restrained him - diminishing his role as leader - before Clayton then attacked and almost succeeded in kidnapping the entire family group.
I think I saw behind the scenes of how Tarzan goes through the trees, the animators were studying skateboarders and surfers for reference of the movements. Clayton kind of reminds me of Gaston from Beauty and the Beast. There's a Disney fan theory that Jane ancestor is Belle from Beauty and the Beast, she has the tea collection, wears alot of yellow dresses like Belles dress.
I read somewhere where Tarzan and Elsa and Anna since both parents had a burning ship both happened to them they’re brother and sisters.Somewhere down the line where there related somehow

if you think Phil Collins did great singing Tarzan's songs, wait until you hear him singing in all these extra-languages: *Italian, French, German and Spanish*
Disney created deep canvas for the scenes in the jungle. The main animator is Glen Keane he was the key animator for Ariel, the beast, Aladdin, and Tarzan in this movie. The first movie he worked on was the fox and the hound where he helped animate the bear at the end of the movie.
@@KazumiKuwabara and first time cg was integrated with D2 animation for a main character. When they were learning how to do it they went from the Disney archives and pulled out animation of captain Hook and changed his one hand into the 3-D model to see if they could make it work.
I have two things to say: 1. It still feels pretty gutsy to have the first like 15 minutes of this movie be basically dialogue-free 2. I'd love to see the BTS footage of Glenn Close recording Kala's vocalizations for those 15 minutes.
🤘🏽Hells yeah, man! That was literally one of my first favorite soundtracks. .....And now that I'm thinking about it, I'm pretty sure I burned a copy of the CD that I got from the library b/c that absolutely used to be a thing that kids did back in the day.
Your not the only one James who appreciates this version of Tarzan. This is one of my favorite Disney movies. Beautiful music, great characters stunning art design and so much more 💚💚💚💚
When I rewatched this movie, I noticed that Sabor really was there (atleast her outline) when Tarzan noticed the danger. When you pause and look closely and see a figure that resembles a cat but it somehow also blends well with the bush made the scene a whole lot creepier.
this movie is iconic!! one of my favorite subtle running gags in the movie is that the professor has a…thing with the queen of England that may have contributed to the funding of their expedition 😂 (“your majesty, you’re such a teaseee”) one of those many disney jokes you don’t get until you’re older…
a fun fact. Tony Goldwyn the actor who voiced Tarzan. couldn't do the iconic tarzan yodel with his voice. but actor Brian Blessed who voices Clayton could do the yodel. so every time you hear tarzan do the yodel it's actually brian blessed. (also available on RUclips) and another fact Sabor the cheetah has the same colors as Clayton. the fur is the same color as his jacket and the tongue of sabor is the same color as the scarf of clayton. and when Clayton first comes into the picture. you see the shadow of the trees shining over clayton. so they stand for the spots. Once sabor is dead clayton comes into the picture.😉
Tarzan is one of the few Disney films that almost meets the same tier as The Lion King! From the animation, the music, the quality, story, and characters, this film deserves so much praise. Another inspirational animated film in my opinion. Great reaction you guys!
Tarzan is the single best movie from my childhood. It is so deeply ingrained in me, and I watch it again every couple of years or so. The artistic style and storytelling are brilliant and Phil Collins helped create a masterpiece.
This is the only Disney movie where I didn’t mind the characters not singing. Cause it wouldn’t fit the movie between Tarzan speaking animal and English. Phil collins just flows perfectly with the movie. In my opinion it doesn’t fit in any other Disney movie that used this tactic
Yeah I agree, the music told the story and the characters didn’t need to necessarily sing for you to know who they were about and what the songs were describing. Had so much more emotional impact when the characters are allowed to emote and they don’t have to animate singing for the entire song. Phil Collins really put his heart and soul into those songs and you can just tell. I liked the lead in for You’ll be in my heart, although I wouldn’t have minded if she had sung the entire song I think it was necessary to really focus on not just her relationship with Tarzan but with other creatures of the jungle. Really well done.
@@gabrieldamian9074 i love brother bear but i think it didn’t fit with the movie like it did with Tarzan. They should’ve let the characters sing in brother bear
@@user-bl2qe3gq5uI think it would be strange to see the brother bear characters sing, singing is not something that fits with their personalities, the only character that would feel normal and natural to see sing is koda, Kenai would definitely never have sung and neither would his brother.
I’m SO happy you guys reacted to this, I’ve never clicked on a video faster. Nothing beats watching a nostalgic movie from your childhood as well as witnessing someone watching it for the first time, which I’m sure James will relate to. LOVE YOU GUYS 💗
This is literally my favorite OG Disney movie ever, like my NUMBER ONE, i know every single line of this movie by heart I can watch this on mute and just keeping saying the lines, that's the amount of times i've watched when I was a kid!!! LOVEEEEE it so much
Phil Collin’s music just makes this movie one of my favorites! Especially the first song that sets the tone and mood right off the bat! The intro to this movie is one of a kind. It brings theses two very different worlds into something we can really relate to. “You’ll Be In My Heart” was one of the songs I’d sing my boys to sleep with when they were babies.
I think Clayton may have the scariest Disney villain death. Villains like Frolo and Ursula have more graphic/intense scenes, but I think Clayton’s just screams panic. The music is frantic and wild, the vines make the scene feel claustrophobic, the lighting makes is nightmarish, and Tarzan’s mounting panic as he realizes what Clayton is about to do to himself is chilling. All of that to then end on the silhouette of a hanged man, it’s dark
This is one of my favorite movies. Not even just of disney movies or animated, but somewhere in the top of all time. And the soundtrack is also one of my favorite and definitely some of my most listened to tracks.
my brother and I watched this movie religiously growing up, it will always be one of my favorites. my brother loved it so much that for a good portion of his childhood he walked around on his knuckles just like Tarzan does lol
Tarzan is one of those movies you might forget when you’ve seen it as a kid, but re-watching it is always breath-taking. 😀 Glad you guys enjoyed it, it’s one of the greats imo!
This will forever remain not only my favorite animated film of all time but favorite Disney film. Everything from the story, to the animation( of course), to the music. I’ve heard that the books are a million times more darker, which isn’t a surprise but this film holds up so well today. As it happens, Lion King is my second favorite Disney and animated film. No animated films will ever compare to those two. I remember watching this movie as a kid and pretending to be Tarzan on the park monkey bars and in the pool in the summer. There will never be a movie that goes as hard as this one did. Phil Collins is a legend as well.
To the Phil Collins fans out here just know that he sang for a lot of translated versions of the movie: French, German, Spanish and Italian. I'm French and watched Tarzan with the songs sang in French by Phil Collins himself. This is awesome ! He dis the same for Brother Bear as well !
Ashamed to say I’ve never seen this and barely know the story. 🙈 Will be fun to watch with you guys! Especially since I’ve seen quite a few people say it’s under-appreciated and/or it’s their favourite Disney movie.
I think a lot of the early 2000s disney movies were underappreciated. I love Atlantis, Tarzan, Emperor's New Groove, and Treasure Planet, but these movies do not get the love the Disney Renassaince had. People were complaining about the Disney Princess formula to the point Animaniacs made fun of the formula when Pocahontas came out, but when Disney moved away with it with these movies, they ended up being kind of forgotten.
@@Alphasnowbordergirl Too right. Somehow these movies ended up in the class of movies where if you were a kid when this came out, you probably have fond memories and will defend these movies forever; whereas adults also liked it at the time but weren't nearly as into it as the kids. Every kid I knew loved Tarzan. Everyone in my grade turned The Emperor's New Groove into various memes and catchphrases. Atlantis is really one of those ones where they didn't market it for long enough for people to get hyped about it to go see it and the theater-to-VHS time frame was pretty short for a Disney movie. And the marketing made it look mediocre and paint-by-numbers instead of wildly creative and entertaining. Treasure Planet was also poorly advertised but it caught a second wind with reruns on the Disney Channel. And since it's based on classic literature, a fun English teacher could work it in as part of the "Treasure Island" unit.
Personally, I do not understand the gripe with the change in musical format. I think it works just fine. I feel that people were so used to the "broadway" style musicals for the Renaissance (The Little Mermaid- Mulan) but the way the songs are delivered here are still effective to me. This is a Disney film that isn't dialogue heavy. It relies more on the animation to convey emotions. That scene in the trees with Jane where its just their expressions and the instrumental in the background is beautiful, quiet yet and impactful. If they stuck a song in it I feel that it would have ruined the tension.
I think one of the problems that some people may have with the musical numbers in this movie is that, when the movie was in very early production, Disney [the company] asked Phil Collins to do the songs, he got so exited he immediately made a bunch (and even re-recorded them in different languages). Since the film was in early production, the movie was adapted/modified to fit with the song and not the other way around. So the film could have been better/different but ended being forced around the song. *This is what I remembered from a mini documentary "The Making of Tarzan" (ruclips.net/video/eTWgiR0uNaI/видео.html), but I may be wrong I personally feel that the instrumental score was beautifully done and the songs are nice (not sung by characters but expressing mental states/ mood). However I do wonder what could/ would have been made If Phil Collins made the songs at the "appropriate" time of the film and not as early as he ended up doing.
Interesting fact Tarzan real name is John Clayton the 3rd, he and Clayton are related and in the books Tarzans parents weren't killed by a leopard they were killed by the apes that raised him. This is in the books and the Legend of Tarzan live action movie, could you guy's check it out?
This movie was so relatable for those feeling like an outsider trying to acclimate to new environments and people. It reawakened all the nostalgia. Great reaction guys!!👍🏾✨👏🏾
Live the animation style, Disney used a mixture of computer and hand drawn animation called deep canvas, to display all the action stunts, Tarzan was Disney's first and last use of that animation technique. No animation studio would experiment with deep canvas technique until about a decade later with the show Attack ON Titan.
I was lucky enough to see this in theaters when it first came out and I swear to God Phil Collins has never hit as hard as it hit in that theater. Tears all around. Just a truly great animated movie
My fave thing to watch in this movie is tarzans face whenever hes interacting with the other humans. Bc he doesnt speak in the beginning you typically defaults to watching whatever character is talking. But if u watch tarzan its so funny bc despite the fact he cant talk yet and doesnt understand what everyone is saying, the animators did such a good job with his expressions u can see exactly what hea thinking and feeling
Honestly Tarzan has to be my favorite Disney movie, treasure planet is a close close second, but I never get sick of this movie, I love all the music which is rare for me to like all of the music in movies. Great reactions btw!
The music in this movie has my heart ❤️ and yes! The expressions and attention to detail when it comes to the mannerisms is absolutely incredible in this movie 👏🏻
The Tarzan soundtrack is HIGHLY underrated. I still listen to the songs in my regular rotation of songs in Amazon Music. Also, a sidenote: they studied Tony Hawk when animating Tarzan's tree surfing.
I just remembered the theory that Jane is Bella's granddaughter. in the scene where she appears the tableware is a reference to beauty and the beast. It was implied that the crockery was inherited by Jane's father. In addition, she wears a yellow dress like Bella's, another reference. So jane's father would be Bella's son and jane her granddaughter.
I have made it a mission that when I become a parent, I would sing You'll Be In My Heart to soothe the crying. While I doubt I'd do Phil Collins due justice, I'd try hard to emulate the emotion behind the lyrics.
Tarzan was one of my favorite movies growing up watching, especially the music that is done by Phil Collins. If you liked watching Tarzan and listening to the music done by Phil Collins, I suggest you watch another great work done by Disney and Phil Collins which is Disney brother bear. Phil Collins music is on Brother Bear and another great masterpiece of animation music and more!!!!

I don't know what you're talking about. When Tarzan came out, it was a huge success and Phil Collins even won the Oscar for his song. I saw it in the theaters at least 3 times and I can count less than a handful of movies I will do that for. Tarzan is definitely one of Disney's better animations.
No Disney movie made my childhood like this one. I used to try to walk like Tarzan as a kid and my whole family loved it and had the Tarzan game on ps1. The other Disney movies don’t hit the same and I saw all of the renaissance except rescuers down under growing up
Tarzan is the first movie I actively remember watching as a kid and that flash of Clayton's body hanging there? THAT image has been seared into my brain ever since. Idk why that, out of all Disney deaths, has stuck with me but it just felt way more intense to me as a kid than any other.

So glad to see you guys react to this film! Been waiting for it for quite some time ngl! Tarzan was one of the two Renaissance films I didn't see growing up as a kid, which is a shame, but having seen it for the first time as an adult I feel like I have a greater appreciation for it: the animation, the story, the characters. Its become my 2nd favorite Disney film of all time, bumping down Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast. I really feel that animation lends itself really well to the story of Tarzan. The animation of him moving through the trees leaves me enthralled; not to mention with animation they can properly showcase the touching bond between Kala and Tarzan that would be harder to do in live action.

According to the source material, Tarzan, takes place first in 1892 with Tarzan as a baby then proceeds to 1917 as an adult, in the Belgian colony of the Congo.
Glen Keane is one of the greatest animators to ever live. Not only did he study animals, human anatomy, and skaters to create Tarzan’s looks and movements, he put so much emotion into Tarzan that even though he hardly says anything in the movie, you can tell exactly what he’s feeling. The scene where Tarzan meets Jane for the first time and holds her hand to his, Keane drew inspiration from the birth of his daughter Claire. After the movie, he told her “that’s not Tarzan looking at Jane. That’s me looking at you.”
His movement came from the director ( or someone else involved with the film )'s son , when he saw him skateboarding , so that was basically where the moves came from :) And I cried when Kerchak died !!
I just remembered I used to have a Tarzan action figure in 1999 with the cut on his chest which was like the coolest thing ever back when this came out. My parents knew how much I fell in love with this when the first trailer came out and got me that one which was like my favorite disney toy and I had Buzz and Woody. Thank you for reacting to this. This video really brought me back in time. Please react to disney peter pan and return to neverland too. Also the Aladdin sequel would b nice.
@6:30 Spirit (Stallion of the Cimmaron) has the same idea, the music is the storytelling/inner monologue of the main character, the animals dont talk except for narration from the main character & the songs, its my all time favourite movie & its so beautiful (Bryan Adams & Hans Zimmer did most of the music)

Tarzan definitely is my favorite Disney film right after Zootopia. The animation to the story to the soundtrack to the characters is just all ON POINTE and it blends into a wonderful film. I didn't see this when I was a kid, more into my teens - so James, I think the reason you find this to be great isn't only because of nostalgia.

The scene took 7 weeks to animate and 73 feet of film. Also, Phil Collins always hits ! "Something happened on the way to heaven" and it's music video is my absolute favorite 🫡

Also I noticed you called Terk a he, but actually she's a she! She's played by the famous comedian Rosie O'Donnell, and her full name is Terkana, lol
*Terkina, her name is spelled out in the subtitles when her mom calls her out for being too abrasive as a kid lol
Jane is one of my favorite female characters of Disney too!! she is just so funny, relatable and curious!
Me too.
The music in this movie impacted my childhood. Phil Collins is a wonderful musician. He packed the songs with such deep meaning, every line in Son of Man is a life lesson
It’s too bad he’s in pretty bad shape right now, isn’t it.?
It wasn’t this film (I was too young to really appreciate the music when the film came out as I was only four), but his work four years later on Brother Bear got me into him
@@RYMAN1321 same for me who was 6 when the movie came out. I recognized his voice only in " Brother's bear " because like with Tarzan, Phil Collins sings the soundtrack in the french version
I think we can all say that Clayton’s death was one of the most darkest in Disney films
You can see his silhouette dead body hanging on the vine on the tree when there was a flash of lightning.
He hung himself.
@@tararocksong5085Didn't notice that as a kid at first, but I still got what Happened from the vine tightening, machete dropping n Tarzan looking up at his (off screen) corpse. Even before then, his expression n screams of dread n panic was terrifying enough. I almost felt sorry for him.
@@syrusangi8743, greed can lead to terrible consequences.
If Clayton thought first before he acted, he could have saved himself instead of getting hanged by mistake.
11:00 Kala is an amazing mother! She's patient and loving, and it motivated Tarzan as well. Now this, puts a smile on my face 😌
Me too.
@@RegularGamer392 you inspired it.
Oh yeah, Deep Canvas. It was really expensive to use but damn do I wish they’d use it more.
@@amandagrubbs3000 that’s a crack theory. Fun to theorize but ultimately no way true or actually possible.
@@amandagrubbs3000 They're different time periods though and they have different hair colors. Plus Elsa and Anna's parents' ship was found in the 2nd movie in a different part of the world.
@@amandagrubbs3000 that never happened to Elsa and Anna’s parents from Tarzan. However, they just died from tsunami 🌊 in the middle of the ocean from frozen 2.
Glen Keane actually used his own son for reference for parts of the movie with the trees :) His son was an avid skateboarder/snowboarder, so Glen Keane knew what stuff to use.
if you think Phil Collins did great singing Tarzan's songs, wait until you hear him singing in all these extra-languages: *Italian, French, German and Spanish*
Japanese too
@@henryisthere no, he didn't
only those 5 languages
@@leonardolonghi3472 I'm french and I grew up with his voice but I have to admit " Son of man " sounds better in the original version
Phil Collins went *CRAZY* on the songs for this movie. Absolute classic.
Disney created deep canvas for the scenes in the jungle. The main animator is Glen Keane he was the key animator for Ariel, the beast, Aladdin, and Tarzan in this movie. The first movie he worked on was the fox and the hound where he helped animate the bear at the end of the movie.
Glen Keane also did the eagle Marahute in The Rescuer Down Under and Rapunzel.
@@xenablossom4682 yes very true. He is my favorite animator.
And Captain Silver in Treasure Planet!
@@KazumiKuwabara and first time cg was integrated with D2 animation for a main character. When they were learning how to do it they went from the Disney archives and pulled out animation of captain Hook and changed his one hand into the 3-D model to see if they could make it work.
Honestly they need to hire more animators like Glenn with a keen sense of grace and poetry
I have two things to say:
1. It still feels pretty gutsy to have the first like 15 minutes of this movie be basically dialogue-free
2. I'd love to see the BTS footage of Glenn Close recording Kala's vocalizations for those 15 minutes.
I was obsessed with this soundtrack as a kid. I listened to the cassette all the time in the car, the bath, etc. Still love it. 💖
🤘🏽Hells yeah, man! That was literally one of my first favorite soundtracks.
.....And now that I'm thinking about it, I'm pretty sure I burned a copy of the CD that I got from the library b/c that absolutely used to be a thing that kids did back in the day.
I’m pretty sure I had a VHS of the film but I think it got lost in the shuffle when I moved many years ago :(
@@RYMAN1321 Ugh I think that's what happened with most of my old movies too. I wish I could go back and remind myself to keep everything.
This came out when I was 19. I loved it and I still think Tarzan is a total hotty! Not only is he drawn well, but the voice acting is melt worthy!!!
Your not the only one James who appreciates this version of Tarzan. This is one of my favorite Disney movies. Beautiful music, great characters stunning art design and so much more 💚💚💚💚
Phil Collins is a legend. He goes all in, in every movie he's involved in. Him and Zimmer are my favorite OGs
Me too.
John Williams is one of my favorite OGs.
When I rewatched this movie, I noticed that Sabor really was there (atleast her outline) when Tarzan noticed the danger. When you pause and look closely and see a figure that resembles a cat but it somehow also blends well with the bush made the scene a whole lot creepier.
this movie is iconic!! one of my favorite subtle running gags in the movie is that the professor has a…thing with the queen of England that may have contributed to the funding of their expedition 😂 (“your majesty, you’re such a teaseee”)
one of those many disney jokes you don’t get until you’re older…
Lol I have Hercules , Tarzan , Mulan over lion king. I enjoyed them more
@@user-bl2qe3gq5u Same, idk why it's considered the best disney film
That’s certainly the case for me.
My top three Disney movies I’ve enjoyed the most as a kid were Tarzan, The Lion King, and The Little Mermaid.
No matter where i go you will always be my mother that line was so heartworming
I will always love how the lightning flash just shows the shadow of the hanging body.
What about brother bear? phill also sang that movie
Favorite Disney movie, I cry every time with the story and relationship between Kala and Tarzan. And definitely BEST Disney soundtrack.
LOVEEEEE it so much
Just like Hunchback, this is an all time Top 5 Disney film for me.
This is one of the best.
PHIL COLLINS SNAPPED ON THIS SOUNDTRACK. SO FUCKING EPIC
One of my childhood favorites.
Would listen to the soundtrack on repeat for hours at school.
*This is what I remembered from a mini documentary "The Making of Tarzan" (ruclips.net/video/eTWgiR0uNaI/видео.html), but I may be wrong
I personally feel that the instrumental score was beautifully done and the songs are nice (not sung by characters but expressing mental states/ mood). However I do wonder what could/ would have been made If Phil Collins made the songs at the "appropriate" time of the film and not as early as he ended up doing.
@@RedMoon814 The reason Phil Collins are hired is because the director didn't want Tarzan to sing, because he thought it be too ridiculous.

Interesting fact Tarzan real name is John Clayton the 3rd, he and Clayton are related and in the books Tarzans parents weren't killed by a leopard they were killed by the apes that raised him. This is in the books and the Legend of Tarzan live action movie, could you guy's check it out?

Also, Clayton is actually a pretty cool dude in the books.
My elder brother once cosplayed as Tarzan, and looked exactly like the cartoon.
I was lucky enough to see this in theaters when it first came out and I swear to God Phil Collins has never hit as hard as it hit in that theater. Tears all around. Just a truly great animated movie
Fun fact the song that the gorillas and Tantor sing is actually sung by The Backstreet Boys.
James: "Ohhhh, the whole camp is trashed" ... during the song called "Trashin' the Camp" 😁
Glenn Close, who voiced Kala, also dubbed Andie McDowell's voice (Jane) in the movie "Greystoke: The Legend Of Tarzan".
I deff like this theory better than the "Anna/Elsa" one

I don't know what you're talking about. When Tarzan came out, it was a huge success and Phil Collins even won the Oscar for his song. I saw it in the theaters at least 3 times and I can count less than a handful of movies I will do that for. Tarzan is definitely one of Disney's better animations.
I have always loved this film. I don’t get why some ppl don’t think the Phil Collins soundtrack fits? I always loved it lol
Its annoying how much hate it gets
No Disney movie made my childhood like this one. I used to try to walk like Tarzan as a kid and my whole family loved it and had the Tarzan game on ps1. The other Disney movies don’t hit the same and I saw all of the renaissance except rescuers down under growing up
Tarzan is the first movie I actively remember watching as a kid and that flash of Clayton's body hanging there? THAT image has been seared into my brain ever since. Idk why that, out of all Disney deaths, has stuck with me but it just felt way more intense to me as a kid than any other.
This movie was huge when it came out. Maybe not a lot of people talk about it anymore, but there was definitely a lot of talk back in the day 😆
Phil collins went off on this soundtrack… one of the best Disney soundtracks from start to finish.
I always listen to “I want to know” when my schoolwork is feeling particularly dull and I need to reconnect with my love of learning. Love it ❤️
The artist who had the idea to make Tarzan a surfer among the trees is Glen Keane. He's also responsible for the look of Ariel, Beast, Pocahontas, and was the animation supervisor on Tangled He's AMAZING and you guys should react to some of his interviews to learn about his unique process!.

Phil Collins kills it with the soundtrack, also love the fan theory that Tarzan is Anna and Elsa's long lost brother from Frozen.
It’s since been debunked but it was a cool theory for awhile.
An all-time Disney classic. Love the animation, the voices and the soundtrack by Phil Collins.
Literally any Disney movie with Phil Collins is an automatic classic
Ah, yes. Clayton had by far the darkest villain death in any Disney film. I can't believe I'm typing this down, but I miss the 90s.
I'd say that Scar eaten alive by a pack of hyenas is worst than hanging
The Tarzan yell was provided by Brian Blessed, who was the voice of Clayton.
The animation of him moving through the trees leaves me enthralled; not to mention with animation they can properly showcase the touching bond between Kala and Tarzan that would be harder to do in live action.
i've been SOOO excited for you guys to react to this!!! i feel like the animation has been immensely slept on. it's GORGEOUS.

I remember watching this in theaters in 99 when I was 5 and watched it alot in 1st grade while during work I got tired of watching it but still enjoy this movie I miss the 90s animation style and the soundtrack is so nostalgic
My favorite Disney film EVER! Phil Collins KILLED it and MADE this movie! This soundtrack brought the movie so much life!!!

Me too.
I love what they did with this movie regarding the music and the addition of Phil Collins!!
His movement came from the director ( or someone else involved with the film )'s son , when he saw him skateboarding , so that was basically where the moves came from :)
And I cried when Kerchak died !!
That’s cool
I just remembered I used to have a Tarzan action figure in 1999 with the cut on his chest which was like the coolest thing ever back when this came out.
Fun fact from Wikipedia ! The scene where Jane describes meeting Tarzan for the first time to her father and Clayton was improvised by Driver, resulting in Ken Duncan animating one of the longest animated scenes on record. The scene took 7 weeks to animate and 73 feet of film.
Also, Phil Collins always hits ! "Something happened on the way to heaven" and it's music video is my absolute favorite 🫡
I worked on this movie for three years and that scene with the Driver improvisation was physically enormous. I was actually 81 feet. 81 feet of Clayton animation, 81 feet of Jane animation, 81 feet of Professor animation, 81 feet of tones and shadows. When we stacked that paper it was four stacks each about four feet tall!
