Billy Cobham-George Duke-Band "Stratus" (B.Cobham) Billy Cobham - drums George Duke- keyboards Carl Orr - guitar Stefan Rademacher - bass Montreux Jazzfestival 1998
My inspiration to keep playing after my young wife passed away (25), was Billy Cobham. Nobody wanted to play that stuff up here, till I got the local radio to play some Mahavishnu, and some other fusion, late night.......wow! Really caused a ruckus and changed the face of radio in Cairns. 25 years later, as a drumschool principal and promoter, I got the chance to bring Billy to Cairns, with Randy Brecker, Mike Chindamo, Carl Orr...man it was truly like all my Christmases came at once.
This is not a song, this is master piece and purpouse of life of four people on the stage doing what they do the best. I can't get enough of this song.
Yesterday was January 12, 2020 what would have been professor George duke 74 birthday, I can only imagine, what he would be doing in 2020, thanks for the memories , I miss him a lot. Your number 1, fan, still jamming your music in Memphis, tn.
???????, completely wrong...., he dont start to use it till 73 or 74...., with zappa...., he refuse to use it when zappa offers to him for the first time...., emerson and wackeman make it all with it to much time before he start to use it....
Man... from a bass players view of this killer tune... it is not how many notes you can throw all over the song but very simple.. where you put your notes. So simple but a total groove. Try playing it and "keep up". Awesome. Love Mr. Cobham et al.
George & Frank... just got a clip from my son who is at Ronnies Scotts listening to Carl Orr so decided to go back in time and listen to some good old music here in Shanghai. Carl is also a cool dude.
Tony from Adelaide Australia. Carl Orr used to play Mahavishnu tunes at pub here. Thought WTF. Great to see his career blossom. Great take of fusion classic.
Stefan Rademacher on Bass is a very solid foundation, i wonder whos the guitar player. I do really really like his playing, phrasing and sound, George Duke and Billy Cobham i knew for the oasr 35 years... They won't be comin back unfortunately. This tune has got me hooked ever since i've heard it first.
@Stipe1405 Although jazz fusion is probably my overall favorite music style, I would have to say that funk can be tighter than jazz fusion sometimes. It's always up to the musicians who play. P.S. George Duke is a genius... and this gut Carl Orr is a great player too. Nice upload!
So...i love this since i was 13 Years old...i met so many people till yet who can feel that sound,rhythem...some do it easy some not and this people not wich very sad is...i want also tell that the most of this people wich like this are musicians...funny he? ..

That must have been a dream come true, man !
I love fusion! Cobham, Duke, Jeff Beck, Mc Laughlin, Bolin, Hammer ... and Frank Zappa. Yes ... Frank Zappa. Ask George Duke.

One of the best I've ever heard.
Always good to see Duke and Cobham together... that single stroke snare drum roll at the beginning is textbook.....

So bloody good. Seriously bloody fantastic.
Ce sont les plus grands de tous les temps !

Die Besten der Besten...
Jos dugo ovo niko nece odsvirati...
Most important in that groovy song is "less is more". Vinnie didn't realise that. Cobham keeps the groove... Thats the goal of that song.
George Duke rules!! Desert island stuff to be sure.
Thanks
