The easiest thing to start out sewing are pillows! They're so easy, and who couldn't use more throw pillows??
Cassandra I was about to comment the same thing! Very true pillows are the easiest and very fun to make!
Scrunchies are easy to make too !
Thanks for the tip
kirsten rebecca Knoops thanks for the tip
I have 57 stuffed animals because I can’t grow up, I am the person who doesn’t need more
“You’re a pretty smart cookie” Omg your Dad is literally the sweetest pea 😭💗
I love your positive can-do attitude! I've been sewing simple projects like straight hems, and valances for windows since I was a teenager, but I've never been brave enough to try something with elastic. And you tried it on your first project! You did a great job!
"I just wanted this video to be me-figuring it out"
every person who is sewing rn: we all still get cutting anxiety, breakdowns and blood sweat and tears go into that finished item, no one figures it out, not even the pros when they try a new pattern ect. especially with historical sewing-
HOWEVER anyone reading this starting out don't get discouraged, the tears are worth everything in the end❤
I hope lmao im making my first project ever lmao it looks questionable
@@Mopsbpv just go for it and don't be afraid to fail! Cathy Hay is a good person to look up on RUclips, she is THE best source to find motivation, hope and she will 100% make sure you get the best and most out of your sewing journey- she's like a coach not just for sewing, but also for life, but based on the experience of sewing. Highly recommend😊 anyways, enjoy your sewing :)
@@wolveshowling26 I made a table cloth to set my sewing machine on, it's terrible, it's legit terrible, but I made it. Next is pillow cases
@@PrincePeach777 Whoooooop whoop you got this! Don't worry about how it looks at first, have fun, play around, you'll get the hang of it if you persevere:)
@@wolveshowling26 I’ve no choice but to! I paid 900 dollars for my machine lol and even then it was on sale from 1400
I’m in the process of starting a small business making hair accessories out of vintage/reclaimed/deadstock fabric and I have a Singer - it’s my best friend.
I love that idea 🙏 You go
How much was the singer ??
noClue Mimi they’re on amazon for $100
When I first started learning to sew, we made pillows and bean bags and learning different stitches on the sewing machine. Ahh what a time
Love you, Tasha! I got a sewing machine as a gift (I wanted so badly) in 2007, and *literally just opened it* because I was so intimidated! I keep buying sewing books, but have still yet to pull the trigger- and you bought a sewing machine *AND* made a fricken _elasticized corduroy tank top_ the same day! 😳
You are my spirit human 😌
Your latest content is the _perfect_ combination of the warm, up close and personal feel of your old videos and the cool, just (Tasha) curated enough feel of your latest!
🥰💗
My mom bought me a sewing machine 13 years ago. I tried to learn many times but those trials were not pretty serious then one year ago I decided to focus and go for it with all my heart and I have just finished my forth project. Finally I am wearing my own clothes.
This is me. Hahaha. Definitely a sign for me to start 😅
Don't expect to pick it up that quickly. I certainly didn't. My first several projects were horrible and wonky. It took me about 3 months to learn how to sew a straight line. I still have the first thing I made which is a pair of pyjama shorts and they are a hot mess.
Take a shot every time Tasha says, "So" or "Sew" lol ☺️
Woah hey you wouldn't wanna get alcohol poisoning 😂 jkjk hehe
@@user-ue6kq8xg2c 😂 true! Ok, take a shot of water each time ;) more healthier
I started sewing last year so I know what it's like to start, but it can be done believe me! You got this!💪🏻
I know this video is sponsored but there's a beautiful community of sewists on the Internet that can encourage and teach you.
Btw the way you made it way harder for you! If you sew the back seam then the upper and lower hem with enough space to thread the elastic, then thread the elastic into the casing with the help of a safety pin is soooooo much easier.
Looking forward to your next sewing videos! x
Hi ! I would like to start making my own clothes, would you recommend any youtubers, tips, and others on how ? I have no education whatsoever and have no clue where to start :)
Fella personally I just started and self taught myself
Great vid! Easiest way to make from scratch is take apart a thrifted item and use as a pattern. I’ve been sewing for many years and alterations I’ve always found are much harder than they look. 🧡
this is a big goal of mine for 2020. excited to experiment like you!
Did u do it?
Yes. Start with skirts. My nana taught me. Skirts with elastic waist.
I don't sew but I watch a lot of sewing videos hahah. But one thing I've learned is that its easier to get the elastic right and on the fabric by first measuring the elastic to your body in a comfortable stretch and then pin the ends to the fabric and then the middle and then inbetween to get an even stretch. Idk if that was helpful, I mean you did it anyway hahah
That is a good tip - another thing is to testing to remove 1 inch from the waist measurement also. Of course, adjust if uncomfortable but generally that help you to keep it snug but not too snug.
I AM GONNA SEW BECAUSE OF YOU! THIS IS THE PUREST VIDEO IVE SEEN IN THIS WHOLE MILLENNIUMAREA🙌🏻
Honestly it's so great to learn to sew! Jo Ann's has patterns on sale a ton (I got some for a dollar each) and you can find fabric at thrift stores instead of buying new. Of course it's awesome for tailoring and re-structuring thrifted items too! Items that you might love but don't fit quite right can be saved ✨
You did exactly what I tell beginners to do. Just get in and do it but start with something simple. You did a great job 👍
You actually did awesome for a beginner! Using non-stretchy fabric and elastic is great, cause this way you dont have to worry about fit or misbehaving material too much and can focus on the technique. I would have made cases for the elastic to just thread through though, that may have been a little bit easier for you. For me, the most important thing to learn and what I am still working on is to understand what type/weight/material of fabric works best for what you are making. For example, you could not get a flowy tank top or summer dress out of your couch fabric (from the looks of it), but it might work amazing for some shorts or a simple mini skirt, because it's got the stiffness! Wish you luck on your further journey, you did great!
Purchased a sewing machine from thrift shop for $40 about a year ago...had to learn how to thread it from youtube video. Thanks for the Skillshare link.
I’ve been thinking about getting started for a while now. Watching you make the crop top made me so happy! I’m so proud of you!
just a little tip! if u put the pins in vertically with the heads facing you as you sew, they're a lot easier to pull out as you go. also when sewing large bits of fabric its good to have the majority of it on the left side and pull it through with that hand while you control where you're sewing with your right hand xx
This is awesome and your top came out so cute!
Another way to sew elastic like that is to hem the edge and create tube and then you thread the elastic through that and connect it at the end. It works best when it is one continuous piece, so if you had sewn the front and back pieces together first, hemmed one lone edge, then thread the elastic through the tube and you can connect the elastic in a loop as tight or loose as you want it.
I don't know it that made any sense but your way also totally works and came out awesome!
I did the same thing this quarantene, took out from the garage my mum’s sewing machine and made scrunchies, masks, and two tops one was a complete fail (it didn’t fit) the other was okay. Can’t wait for fabric shop to open (I am in Italy and currently everything is closed)
I am so interested in your journey, so keep up and keep us informed
Thanks for this video. I know how to sew, but I haven't done it since high school. I have had a sewing machine in it's box for years and I'm a bit intimidated to take it out of the box and try it again after so long. So thank you for pushing yourself to try this it gave me the confidence to try sewing again.
Yay I've been waiting for this since I saw the still of you with your machine in your stories the other day. I've put myself on a RTW fast and sew most of my clothes from scratch and thrift everything else. I love that other people are getting into it. The sewing community especially on Instagram is really wonderful and suppportive! I like that you've evidently done some research and I'm looking forward to seeing what you make!! One thing first - some machines require specific bobbins - lots of the newer models require the plastic bobbins (unfortunately) while older models and heavy duty machines use metal. Your top turned out so cute!! Great first project!
You're so awesome. Thrifting and making your own clothes. Advocating for sustainable fashion!
I adored this video! Gonna bring my sewing machine out of the back of the closet and make some new dog beds out of all the fluff they pulled out of their toys!!
nice job it looks cute! I'd recomend sewing the elastic to the end then pulling it as you sew. Much easier
Damn girl, you are talented! You not only bought your sewing machine and supplies, but your top came out perfect!
I have never wanted to sow in my life. After seeing this video, that’s all I want to do
I've been sewing since middle school, it's not too difficult. I'm really glad I took home ex now that I am a broke ass single mom of two 😂
Brooooo my moms a single mom of three and is even unemployed I hope things can be easy for you in the near future, its probably kinda weird getting this reply from a teenager lmao but seriously i hope things can go well for you and your children 🥺
It was so fun to see you learning how to sew! I hope you continue your sewing journey. As someone who has been sewing for 20 + years it's fun to see it from a beginners point of view. I think my first garment was an orange corduroy skirt when I was nine... more orange the fruit orange than the kind of rusty tones you play with a lot. But your peachy tube top made me remember it :)
I was just gifted a sewing machine and I'm over here stressing because all these videos are telling me I need like 50 other gadgets before I can even get started. This is totally inspiring me to just go for it and figure it out along the way!!
This Video made me so happy! lol I just ordered my sewing machine and I’m also a beginner. Seeing you sew just made me confident and excited. If you can do it I can too! 😁
That was such a wholesome dad moment. And your top looks great!
I have 2 sewing machines haven’t used then in a long long time ......need to start sewing again....you made it simple and easy yes anyone can sew.
You did it!!! Sewing looks easy but honestly it frustrates me. I’m looking forward to the thrift flips 😉
Yes you can teach yourself to sew. I did at the age of 13. The following year I was made to do a semestre of sewing at high school.
During the class we sewed little samples of various kinds of seams, eight or so inches long of cotton poplin. After school I want home and attached the collar of the long sleeved shirt I was making.
The instructions that come with the pattern are sufficient. What they don't have are instructions on making the garment fit a non-standard body. It is the people with non-standard bodies who need to sew their own clothes, yet the patterns are always for standard bodies.
Omg I really want a sewing machine for Xmas. And you just solidified WHY I need one! Such a cute top 😍
If your looking to make summer tops that are light weight, sometimes there are cute flat sheets sold at thrift stores that can be very useful...they are typically never used and very clean, also inexpensive.
this is definitely an interesting concept lol!!
please keep in mind that sewing and finishing a garment are two different things. sometimes if you pop easy made things in the wash... they’ll fall apart 😂
First time seeing your vids ... hope the sewing is going successfully. There are so many like SO many free patterns out there that are awesome and lots that are beginner friendly. Best of luck
Foundations revealed is also a great place to learn how to sew costumes, corsets and historical accurate garments! You can get live lessons online and you can get help with projects apart from having access to the courses! Maybe you want to join for the next semester entry:) (it is structured like a uni online, so you'll start in a group with others)
You will find it SO much more rewarding to have well fitting clothes perfectly made to your taste 💕

@@felfel3623 I have a sewing channel 🙂 I posted a video a few weeks back on some beginner patterns to try using knit fabrics, as well as a video a few before that on using your sewing machine for knit fabrics (there's a few things you'll need to know). Woven fabrics might be easier to start with. Practice and experiment and don't be afraid. You got this. Feel free to reach out if you need specific help
@@seasonallyproductive That's so lovely ! Thank you so much, I will definitely check it out when I have time.
@@seasonallyproductive Oh any brand or model for a beginner and that is also affordable? :)
@@felfel3623 the singer heavy duty is a great beginner machine that will last you many many years. I've also heard the entry level Brother machines are good, but I don't have experience with them myself
I’m 12 and I love sewing with me hands and a sewing machine and I’m going to try to see a dress for my cousin for her birthday wish me luck and I’m a self taught for it’s either failure or success I hope in the future it will come to use a lot
love the tank top you made for your first time , turned out awesome . makes me want to start sewing again .
I appreciate that you say oh my goodness. Other youtubers say omg all the times and it makes me cringe every times. Don’t say the the name of God in vain!
Loving all the new videos! Great job for your first time sewing!
I literally had the though after watching your last video “I wonder when Tasha will start seeing her own clothes?” And then I see this title! Haha it looks amazing!! You did so well ✨
i love this video, i literally wanna go buy a sewing machine and become a fashion designer now! love your top btw!!
Psa! I know Tasha did really well but everyone just saw one her make one thing. I’m not saying don’t try to learn or anything like that but maybe borrow a sewing machine and practice first or a cheap one before you spend money on a really nice one.
I agree! ❤️
I love this! I love vintage/sewing! I think this is a cool step for your channel. So happy
I love this concept for videos!!! your top came out so cute 💕
Sewing is such a great life skill . Everyone should be able to at least know how to mend a piece of clothing .
I realise this video is a few months old, but just a tiny tip, bobbins are unique to every sewing machine, or every brand, so make sure you get the right size. And glass head pins are easier if u ever need to Iron something during a project 😅
If you want cheap fabric that is usually easy to work with thrifted bedsheets work really well
Gooo Tasha !!! As a long time seamstress and designer!!! You nailed it from start to finish !! Taught me a thing or two lol 🤗💕 liked commented and subscribed ✅
So cute!! Feeling inspired now... I have a beautiful cotton gingham curtain panel that I thrifted to make something from but I've been too nervous. 😂
I love that peach colored top!! So cute 🥰
I got one today, I've already made two tops from a dress, fixed some pants and managed to take in two dresses
Yay! Proud of you and super inspired!
This is so exciting!! Sewing is such an amazing skill to have. 💕 I can't to see what else you make!!
Welcome to our sew easy world yay you did it.
Love this!! I actually make a lot of thrift flips and sewing videos on my channel and it’s so awesome to see you getting out of your comfort zone and try something new! You did such an amazing job! Such a cute little top!
Me when her machine uses plastic bobbin and she gets metal: Nooooo u have to get plastic for it to work correctly
Also: you u did good for a beginner.
Also to any other beginner please either do research about the sewing machine you are getting or read the sewings machines manual before u buy extra supplies such as bobbins. I watched a how to video on my sewing machine before I got it so I knew the basics and then I I watched again when I got the sewing machine. Usually when first starting you may only need 2 or 3 bobbins. When buying extra bobbins or needles ALWAYS make sure they are the right type or the machine will not function properly, different types of machines take different types of bobbins and needles.
Thanks for reading my tips as I am also a beginner but I have learned from mistakes and reading the owners manual to my machine!
Im not hating just giving some tips.
It would be better to make a little tube out of each hem and then thread the elastic through with a safety pin. That way you can replace the elastic if it wears out, and you don't run the risk of popping threads if the fabric stretches. There are plenty of tutorials online 😊 Good job for your first time!
Totally Inspired me ! Love it
So awesome I've been wanting to do this too I actually made myself a patchwork denim jacket by hand lol I want a machine now 😊💕way to go Tasha❤
Crafts with Tasha I love it!
It’s easier if you out the elastic in after making the edge seem if that makes sense ;) maybe something to try to make it easier
You can make a nice fitted skirt with the next piece of fabric that u also bought to go with that
What is the name of the shade your wall was painted? Sorry for being random, im picking a colour for my bedroom and im obsessed wth this warm tone! I’d love to see more sewing content!💕
Okay you did amazing for your first time!!!!
I can sew , you made me want to make a tank..i went and looked at the last top from target( long sleeve white) and you were right, the fabric was cheap..so i may make that one..thank you!!
Omg would love to see you bring that to life!

More of this, please. And thank you for this one.
Please do more sewing videos & some thrift flips!
i like your sewing machine that you used. cool video,
Wow you made it look so easy
From North Carolina..do it girl. It's a great a attribute to have. Shows in depth ur qualities.
😁😉😊😋😎Do it girl 💙❤️💚💛
Am, did u check if your machine used the plastic bobbins or the metal ones??
You have done fantasticly however the metal bobbins you bought in the long term will damage your machine if it was provided with a plastic one, then you should buy plastic ones. They don't wear down or break so they're worth investing in 😊 x
So fun to watch you crack your head to figure it out and it pays off at the end! Great job hahah 💗
ps: sorry if "crack your head" sounds weird, it's a funny figure of language here in BR
You’re a natural!!!

Yayyy I’m so proud of you! This is a goal ⚽️ 🥅
Pretty 😍 I have to learn this to! It inspired me defently! ❤️
I bet your watching this video with your legs crossed 😂💕
Great job! If you do more pieces with elastic it may be easier to sew a casing in the material, then attach a safety pin to one end of the elastic and feed it through the casing. Time saver! Enjoy! Blessings all!!!! 💜💜
PS check out With Wendy on YT. She taught herself how to sew and she's done a whole series on learning the basics.
