ABOUT:
Hi, I'm Wendy, and I have been on a sewing journey ever since my mom taught me how to make little outfits for my dolls. I studied engineering and business, had an office job for two years, and then quit to embark on a lifelong sewing adventure on RUclips. Subscribe to join me on the adventure, and maybe make your own clothing too! Thanks for watching ❤️ Хобби
I’m always so afraid to start a project because I feel I don’t know enough to begin. Then I watch Wendy’s videos and feel so silly for not just trying.
You better try, sis! Or else you'll just forever be in that one spot and that was my problem until I started 😭❤
Minx thanks for the pep talk! I bought a ton of Muslim on sale at JoAnn’s fabric and I’ve yet to use it 🤦🏾♀️
Start with basics.
Make some pjs. Make some elastic shorts. Make a really simple cami.
Make some alterations to things in your closet.
You can do it. Just take some baby steps :)
Girrrrl, I know that feeling lol! Sometimes you just gotta jump in though. If it helps, I kind of like to think backwards and write the steps down before I start the making process. Hope that helps! Either way, trial and error is totez okay.
Exactly.. All we need is try.. You gotta start, Donnie 😊🤗👍
You are so adorable! Such a great dress for any season. Make a video on styling it for different weather now 😍
I love you forever April!! Winter version coming sooner than I would like 😭😭🥶
My two faves!🤎
coolirpa omggg I love your thrift videos!
What is the dress called ?
Yeah
You’d EASILY pay $80 for a dress like this in a boutique!
all the 'summer' clothes in fancy stores over here are made of the most horrendously thin yet unbreatheable plastic fabric with perplexingly tacky floral prints, so i agree
@@Crosshill where are you from? Here in indonesia, if u buy it from a boutique, it probably worth around $30 -40
@@ayupermata1367 40 usd is as low as they go for a nice brand dress, if they didnt have big price tags how else would they be convinced to wear something so shapeless and basic
The color and floral pattern is so ugly 🙈 she did really great job, i can't imagine how to make it less terrible... But it still is ugly 😂
Not easily but that's not to say the dress isn't worth it. Very lovely on her/in general
To share a little, I can't remember the last time I sewed this fast and there were innumerable close calls where I almost made a mistake that was the type I'd make in the past, then catch myself, and power through the project with my experience. This dress was a real moment proving to myself how much I have learned from sewing over these years and I felt completely rewarded at the end. All that to say if you're on a sewing journey I'm cheering for you because there are great victory moments ahead ❤️❤️
Now don't forget to see what Coolirpa did on her channel because she a queen! ruclips.net/video/udDtxeys5HI/видео.html
RUclips is taking forever to process this vid 😭😭 join the notifications in the meanwhile?? And pray for this to finish!
withwendy it’s getting somewhat annoying for me I turn on notifications for your channel and April’s because you both are my FAVVEEEE❤️❤️❤️, but I always don’t get the notifications 😭😭😭
Love this little note!! Definitely relatable and much needed. Thank you for being such an inspiration n
thank you for that! i was really needing it today... so many things went wrong T.T
noo why youtube be playing these games! thank you for supporting us both though Rebecca!! *hugs
Now this, THIS is what we’ve been waiting for, WHEN TWO QUEENS MEET. Even these kinds of little bump-intos make me happy, especially if it’s the both of em :)
You are so kind ❤️❤️ our channels are not possible without the amazing people who give us this kind of love!
I agree. Make it for any weather/with accessories
me: wow this audio is really bad
also me, five seconds later: [realizes there's a woodworking video playing in another tab]
I mean, I was willing to keep watching regardless until the bandsaw cut in. I don't sew nor do I have any intention of ever sewing, but this was really fun to watch and I love the entire idea of the challenge. It's incredible to watch someone create something from raw material, and I loved your camera angles and the smooth... whatever you want to call that music.
For the record, I also do not do woodwork. I just really like watching people do stuff.
Andy that last sentence 😅👌
This comment was wild man. Loved it =D
This was a trip
were u on acid or sum when u were typing this?
lmao most definitely a relatable experience. youtube really is out here making me watch woodworking, sewing, and clay???? vids all at the same time
I’m as happy as she as when she said I finished this dress in One day... ONEDAY! The grin on her face 🔥🔥🔥🤙🏾 Priceless
AHHHH I DMed that dress to you I’m so excited that you made it!! You’re amazing ❤️
IM SO HAPPY you found this vid!! I was scrolling through DM’s so much and kicking myself for not saving your message so I could tell you I did it. Thanks for giving me the inspo I needed!!! Now you can enjoy it in any colour your heart desires 💕
Sarah Bengeloun Where did that inspiration pic of the dress come from?
@@lwiley3661 it was an Instagram ad I kept coming across!
@@withwendy I'm so glad. Thank you always ❤️
Sarah Bengeloun OIC-Thanks!
I was screaming "You cannot rip on the bias!"
cannot!!! What a save WHEW
I was holding my breath!
Me too! 😂
Such a save! 🤣👌
What happens if you rip on the bias? It will just rip up the dress instead of to the side?
I love flowey dress and the frill end is so cute, the pattern and color compliments your skin tone.
Who else's heart stopped when Wendy cut through the side seam and went to rip. All I saw was a nice rip up the middle. Wow that was close.
everyone likes a nice schnazzy middle slit in a dress right?????
that was a KEY moment where I felt so grateful my brain was working
On this challenge - both had equal amount of fabric to use: Wendy achieved the goal - with a full dress versus a top. Love them both and they are winners for creativity.
@@ranivaishnava8267 actually wendy had 4 yards while April had 3
I was shouting in my head...oh nooo, stop Wendy, it's on bias. 💕
Yesssssss I love friendship ❤
Wow I can imagine someone complimenting you and you just say “thanks I made it!” Like ?!?! WOW I wanna be that good at sewing
Yessss! Such a good feeling! 💃
That was fabulous. The fabric may have only been $1 but it doesn't look cheap, and certainly not for that dress :-)
Riiiight?! That fabric looks far from cheap
Where does one find such fabric for $1 yard (I assume its per yard). I certainly have no idea but would LOVE to find some!
@@gdhhayes2129 It may not feel nice, though, like a lot of fast fashion materials which read well on camera and entice online shoppers, but then feel awful and don't hold up irl
@@gdhhayes2129 I get some pretty good cheap fabric from Walmart! Lately in their crafting sections they've been selling these little bundles that are 1 to 1.50 per yard.
I think the fabric looks really cheap 😩 wouldn't pay more than 25 for it.
At first I was like why does she have that big watch on? Then I was like ok looks like a bracelet-not bad. Then finally I realized it was a pin cushion 😂😅
I thought i didn't like the design at first but when you sewed it - man the back is just woooow😍
When you tore the dress everything in me was like "NO DON'T. STOP. NO!" And was then so relieved when you caught yourself and stopped 😭 Turned out so beautifully and would also be a whole look with a turtleneck under it for fall 👀 we're a fan. A big one.
omg you actually taught me how to hem a neckline! it's always been a difficult part for me as a beginner sewer -- thank you!
Honestly, i prefer hemming with a facing rather than a binding. I feel it makes a dress look more professional. But it is a personal preference!
I kinda would love to see a frilly butterfly sleeve on this
It turned out super cute. I want to see how it looks on a sweater! It's the ideal dress for a christmas dinner to hide your food baby :P I'm gonna try and make one for myself too
Can I just say this video alone made me realize how detrimental fast fashion is...not only to our environment or economy but just for the art of making clothes.
Is this directed at her or--?
How so?
Wendy, you're so talented!!😍😍😍 The dress's absolutely bomb on its own. But i think it's really cute with a t-shirt underneath(like in 12:42) or with a turtleneck when it gets colder.
You make the dress I’ve been dying to start! It’s so pretty! A tip, if you’d like. When sewing bias tape and finishing seams, I find that attaching the tape to the back first then folding it over the front makes the final product look better, since it doesn’t have the extra line of stitches. Or hand sew the back on with very tiny invisible stitches. Hand sewing takes longer but I always like the results better, because I’m slightly inept with a machine haha.
I had a micro heart-attack when you wanted to rip the front of the dress... but you caught yourself in time! :D
SAVED BY THE BRAIN
And she was right, people who don't sew (like me) didn't get it haha. What am I even doing here 😂
Yeah I panicked lmao
I watched the video 5 times and try to figure out why she should not rip after the side seam and what connects the bias in the upper section with the ripping in the down section...I still haven't found the trap!! Anyone kind enough to explain please?
@@bioeirini4551, "bias" or "on the bias" when referring to sewing/cutting fabric means the fabric is sewn/cut on an angle rather than straight across the fabric. Cutting the fabric for the front of the dress on the bias will make the fabric drape better on the body, it also allows for the fabric to stretch a little. If Wendy had ripped the front of the dress it would have ripped straight along the woven "grain" of the fabric rather than straight across to the other side seam. I hope you understand my explanation.
This Collab needs to happen AGAIN! love you and April! You girls give me life!
Your machine handled itty bitty pieces of silky fabric so beautifully! Mine would have eaten that bias tape so fast
If it helps, replacing the needle for every new project keeps it sharp and more willing to pierce a fabric rather than drag it under your needle plate. I used to have that eat my fabric thing happen too. But it happens less with a sharp new needle that matches the fabric it is working on and going slow at first.
Lmao same, would've been a nice snack for my machine 😂
Add some paper towel or tissue paper underneath and just rip off when you’re done, stops the machine from eating fabric
I know it wasn't easy, but it's inspiring. I will made one in black. Love you work so much 💖
I was holding my breath just before you realized you couldn't rip the bottom of the front of the dress. "Don't do it!!!, oh thank goodness..."
This is a great video for all sewers to watch on halloween. I say this because I stood up out of my seat screaming "WAIT YOU CUT THE FRONT OUT ON THE BIAS". I legitimately watched Sinister 2 last night, and this had my heart pounding more than that horror movie 😭. However, like most horror movies there was a happy ending because that dress is flawless.
This is *BEAUTIFUL* !! I might even try to make this...a little intimidating but you make it look doable!🙌🏻💕
Nice. Looks good on you.
Just a hint for future projects from someone that has made tiered ruffled skirts. The ruffle would have been much easier to hem before attaching it to the dress & gathering the top of it with basting stitches would have been easier than pinning all the ruffle gathers in.
Future Homesteader personally, I find pinning achieves a more consistent result than gathering, especially on a large section such as a full skirt hem, and you don't have to worry about accidentally snapping your basting thread while manipulating the piece.
I second hemming before gathering. That has saved me soooo much aggravation in the past. However, I really prefer pinning gathers to doing basting stitches - I’ve been doing that since I was making Barbie clothes because it always seemed to make the gathers more even.
With pinning vs basting I think it depends on how loose your gathers are. For me who loves the ruffley asthetic I always do double basting stitches and scrunch almost as close as possible. For looser ruffles that edge on small pleats I do think pinning is better
“Sew” beautiful! Omgee! I love, love the back and it looks so good on you! The material may have been one dollar but your time and creativity is priceless! Well done! 🥰
I came here from April’s video and had to pause a few minutes in to subscribe! I don’t sew, but I love your creativity and your energy! And the dress turned out so well - I don’t usually like dresses with a ruffle at the bottom, but the way you’ve done it is something I really like.
I’ve been following you both for years, so glad you’re friends and collaborating 🥰
So beautiful, makes me itching to sew again. I've been getting my craft, sewing, dining room ready over the summer. I'm almost there and can hardly wait to get creating again.
This dress is absolutely gorgeous. I have been seeing cuts like this on pinterest, mostly in rust or teal tones. Its the perfect style of dress to look elegant yet also be comfortable as hell. LOVE.
wow her voice is so soft, so comfortable and so pleasant to hear
I loved!
I have seem so many people sayng that " you would pay some $40 or $80 for a dress like this in any place"... but just who love build knows how pleased is can do it yourself.
Nowadays isn't hard to find a beautiful dress but:
When we can choice the fabric, the color, the brend of fabric, it can be very more interesting!
I love sew for myself!
And now I know how a dress like that can be made!
Thank you!
You made a good job!!!!
I LOVE your closed captions
Don’t stress the rain. I adore listening to rain. It’s soothing. Like natural music in the background.
I'm following you both for many years now💁♀️ 😁 both of you are awsome 👍
I absolutely LOBE your voice! Some people might have calming voice but they don't sound natural enough to me, whereas you still have highs and lows but they are nonetheless calming to listen too! I'm so glad I found your channel because I have always been obsessed with sewing
Super cute!!! The dress came out so good. I love the idea of the challenge. I can't believe the fabric was only a dollar per yard! :O
I can't believe it either those kinds of deals are near impossible to come by in Canada SIGH
This is so gorgeous, defo going to try and recreate this next year for my holiday
the end shots though... that back is ELEGANT
You make everything look so darn easy!! I watched this and now I have a burning desire to make one for myself. And mind you, I have trouble hemming trousers... that´s my skill level -.-"
Great video!
Okay I said this on April’s video but I love how youtubers come to collaborate. It’s like watching two cartoons and the writers cause the universes to merge into something spectacular 🤗
And this dress is BANGING!!!!
The collab I didn't know I needed. Love them 😍
wendyyyy i love you ❤️ your videos are giving me so many ideas & so much inspiration to Make Things but i just had spine surgery so i can't make anything for a while 😭 but until then i get to watch all your great videos again! i love seeing you and april together because i've been watching her channel for so many years!

The colour of the dress is so perfect for your skin tone! Love it!
I was so scared when you started ripping! “NO!!! ITS ON THE BIAS!!!” But you remembered in time, yay! It turned out fabulous!
Yay!! I love to find a Canadian with a cool vibe and chill explanation on how to to make things! I hope to learn how to sew some day. Cheers from Yellowknife, NT!

You are so calming and wonderful to watch. Thanks for putting out such amazing vids! I'm so glad I found your channel last week!
Absolutely beautiful, Wendy, and such a creative design! I can see it with leggings or tights and boots under it for fall/winter and a big fluffy sweater over it or maybe a turtle neck under it! Love it!!
I never imagine two of my favorite channels doing a collab like this and now I starstruck
Not only have I been inspired to either make or get a slip dress, i love comfy lounge wear, but i learned you can eat salad with chopsticks!
Such an awesome outcome for your fabric!! It is such a dreamy dress!!
I love it! It's pretty, flowy, perfect vacation maxi. Great job!
Omg! So gorgeous! I have got to make that for myself! And your dart template blew my mind! I can't wait to try that!

Omg i just realized that coolipra is aprilooc 🔥. God why did I realize it so late?
She said once it comes from COOL + her name backwards :)
So adorable. I love watching your work. Definitely going to try this one!!
Your videos are inspirational to me, as an amateur, and though I can’t do what you do yet, I feel motivated to work on my projects when I see you working on yours.
Rewatching this vid because it came up again in my recommended. Was literally just trying to find a project to turn my old thin duvet cover into and I think this is perfect 🙏
I Like the way the bias transform into the straps🧚🏿♀️
Thanks for not shouting into the camera (like some other youtubers 😂😂) your voice is so relaxing and this was really fun to watch. Love the back of the dress!!!💕
I love it! It’s so inspiring to see this
Learned so much, thank you! Didn't know you could gather a lot of material the same way you gather a little bit. So great to watch a pro at work.
You guys are soooo talented! Love how your dress turned out!!! 💯😍💖
I learned so much from you in this video and you made such a beautiful dress! Wonderful job!
You showed with your happiness how fun wearing a flowing dress can be. You look great!
Your voice is so beautifully calming. Not to mention your amazing talented sewing skills ❤️
I know this is an old vid but I just got round to watching it, and when you started ripping the bottom off the dress I was like "NOOOO, you cut it on the bias!" Haha. So glad you realised.
Amazing talent! Love the drape of the dress. Definitely worth doing it!
This dress is stunning 😍 I Love everything about it❤️ It is ultimate summer dress dream😍❤️ It has to be totally amazing feeling to wear something that You did by yourself😁

I'm so glad that I found you! I want to make clothes, I have fabric and a machine but no skills. You make it look so easy, and I love that dress. New subscriber here ♥
Nailed it! April's design was great, but something about your aesthetics !
