Ahhh, Sears in Friendly Center. Growing up that's where you picked up your mail orders from teh Wish Book catalog LOL And because Greensboro was a distribution hub for Sears, we had two Sears Surplus stores on Randleman Road and on Lawndale where the center was. Spent more time at those locations because things were so cheap. Haven't lived in Greensboro for years but this brings back memories, especially Christmas. Thanks!

From Greensboro and lived there 25+ years, but surprisingly, few memories of Sears at Friendly Center beyond checking out the home PCs with dad there circa 1990 and I also bought our family's first DVD player there in 2001. End of an era though! As somebody who left NC about 3 years ago and hasn't been back yet since, thanks Billy for capturing some last memories of this place for us!

As I've gotten older, I'm now starting to miss Sears. Concord Mall and Granite Run Mall's Sears Stores were the ones I went to in childhood. As a toddler, I always got excited when we went there. The Concord Mall sears closed in about 2019-20, while Granite Run Mall's Sears closed in August 2021. The Granite Run Sears was the last one I went to in 2020. Sears out lived the mall. Granite Run Mall was basically my Carolina Circle Mall. Yes, watching your videos back a decade ago got me interested in my own local mall.

Friendly Center (on Friendly Ave.) was/is a massive campus-style shopping complex. That was a huge Sears store. Bit of a drive from my house but was fun to go there.

My local Sears in the Beckley, WV area closed down in late 2017. Got a lot of stuff there with my family as a kid. It has since been turned into a Rural King.
The last time I was ever in a Sears was in 2019 in Greenville, NC. I ended up buying a small screwdriver partially with a gift card my grandmother gave me she still had. It's sad to have seen pretty much all of them close.

Its so sad. I remember going to Sears as a kid in the 90s and playing on the game demo systems. Sears was the first time I got to try a Playstation 1. Warhawk was the first PS game I tried there.
Never thought id see the day things like Sears, Toys "R" Us (the original stores), and Kmart, etc, would not exist anymore. So sad.

The last time I was in this store was around 2001. I bought a Craftsman power hand drill for my new job at the time. I have a lot of memories of Friendly Shopping Center in general, like the old Swensen's ice cream shop (the old, old one, not the smaller standalone version), the CD store that was over there (can't remember the name), Tex and Shirley's, Showbiz Pizza, and the old movie theater where I remember seeing Gremlins when it came out that is now a Macaroni Grill (at least that's what was there the last time I visited 10 or so years ago). Thanks for the walkthrough.

We had two serars in my town Hazard KY. The first one closed in the early 2010's and the second one closed in 2017. Can't believe they are still in business in Greensboro.

Yes :(, they started closing some stores even before the pandemic. I managed to visit my local mall Sear's on its last few days last year. Almost everything was sold out, they even sold the Desks, telephones and plastic bags. Sadly, I think every store is closed in Illinois. I remember when I first came to the US in 2009, one had no idea that Sears, Best Buy and many other chains would start disappearing. The America I first came to know crumbled before my eyes!!

RIP Circuit City, Computer City, The GoodGuys, Gemco, Best, Service Merchandise, Montgomery Ward, Toys R Us, K-Mart, Sears and so many other great places I have bought games, PC stuff and consoles. Our local Sears went out right before the pandemic. So many great chains now gone, thanks to online stores and discount stores like Wallmart, which I wish was on that list. LOL. We still have a Sears about 20 minutes from my house. I visited it 2 weeks ago and it is probably not long for this area. Being only one of 13 or so stores left in the USA I would guess most will be gone within a year.

I hated to see the Sears in Wilmington NC close down a few yrs ago. They bulldozed it in a hurry too. Built a new Dicks Sporting Goods in the place of it. Lots of memories for me there. Used to play the games in the electronics section every time we'd go. Just a blip in history now.

Those are the same orange "Fixtures" stickers they used at the KMart closure in Auburn CA a few years ago. I still have a box with that sticker on it. I guess the company sends out their standard stickers to any store that's closing.
When I visited that KMart a few years ago I was too late, there was really nothing left. All I remember seeing was some random clothes (nothing I'd want that would fit), major fixtures, and boxes of bubble mailers that were larger than I use. I bought some of those anyway for the heck of it.
It was always a little eerie shopping in that place because it was usually empty. On average I'd say there'd be 2 other customers in the store besides me and I'd be unlikely to cross paths with either of them on the entire venture. I bought cards there occasionally, and I went there to buy minor car maintenance parts, at least until they stopped stocking my oil filter. They were the one non-auto parts store that sold traditional green antifreeze.
I can hardly remember the last time I was in a Sears. I think it must have been at the Roseville Galleria sometime after the big fire that mall had.

Sadly, I don't have too many memories of Sears. First was in 2007, the appliance outlet at Sugarloaf Mills in Lawrenceville, GA that is. Mom and I were in the area and looking for a new fridge, but passed. She referred to all of them as "scratch & dent" like you said. Second was December 2016 at Broadway Square in Tyler, TX with my cousin. Him & I were walking around the mall, and I decided to walk into one, just to see what it was like. Came out with a Texas Rangers shirt that I wore to my very first MLB game, nine months later. Third and final visit was with my aunt in Westminster, CA. Ended up buying a pair of swimming trunks. Safe to say I missed out, like with Kmart & Blockbuster, neither of which I can recall visiting.

The Sears in Virginia that I bought a Craftsman Lawnmower in 2005, closed in 2021 and the mall it was attached to has been demolished. The mall had closed in 2018 leaving Sears the lone store. That lawnmower still works well today

Our Sears here at Alderwood Mall closed several years ago and to my surprise they completely tore down the building and built an apartment complex on the site. Right there within the Mall now is a fairly nice apartment complex. Quick access to a still thriving mall.

We had one in a mall here (east coast Canada) that closed up a couple years ago. And they're just now renovating for a couple new stores going in the spot. Sears problem was they didn't update with the times. Like...If there's a Walmart within 20 minutes of a Sears people are going to Walmart cause Sears prices were way to high! Like here. There's literally a Walmart a 40 second walk from where Sears used to be lol. Doesn't take much when a business is stuck in the past.

This reminds me of when I visited the Lebanon, TN Kmart in late 2019 as it was closing. Like you with this Sears location, it was the Kmart my folks frequented most often, and it was also the last remaining Kmart in the state of Tennessee. I made a short video of the experience…definitely depressing compared to what it was some 20+ years ago. ruclips.net/video/Suo58-eHnMg/видео.html

End of an era indeed. It was a good, clean store in Greensboro - I've visited it few times less than a decade ago. @DomLimited - the "Craftsman" that Lowes sells is not the same, I've got numerous real Craftsman tools from both Sears and KMart.
