this moved me to tears. i had an ancestor who fought there and survived to fight for freedom again here in the states. truly powerful song--your video made it all too real.well done!
If this reverberated your inner soul go to youtube search engine type this song some singers leave me an absolute blubbering wreck. Lena martel also scottish is one very profound beautiful singers also Alexander Brothers, Daniel O'Donnell, Tennesse Ernest Ford, Patsy Cline, Micheal English and Foster and allen to name some of my favourates. i got so many cds Lena is a awesome singer she sings this plus several others any time theres song you absolutely love google it in youtube search engine and listen, if applicaple and your Religious Greek and Russian Orthodox chanting and The Holy Rosary and Tina Turners Buddah chanting is mind blowing its so much better if you have the actuall cd and you can really feel the energy in the music while listening to it in personal cd player in dark no lights of the tablet or computer to distract you. Happy listening and enjoy the music
as it should ,it was the start of a pogrom on a people and a way of life commensurate with the nazi attempt to exterminate the jewish peoples 200 years later strangely the king at the time was a german too
Rivers of Scottish blood shed. And most gave it willingly for a cause they believed in. The Outlander scenes and the song really hit a nerve. I feel quite emotional about it. Well done. You got across your point very pointedly and movingly.
I so love that song and Isla Grant's music. Had the pleasure of seeing her sing this when she was in Australia. Very moving especially after you have been there.
RIP to all my Paterson ancestors who fought there. In one fell swoop of being encouraged to watch Outlander I felt my mother's father's blood boil inside of me...what a story that was virtually forgotten, covered up and basically ignored in History. Scotland has a right to BE as she is and with her plaid and her own culture. Thank you Diana Gabaldon for bringing this history back to us all who have Scottish roots and ancestry and recognize once again our TRUE BRAVE HERITAGE!!!
Maybe its not known as well known outside of the British isles, but it definitely hasn't been forgotten or covered up(not over here anyway), it was the last land battle to be fought in Britain after all.
The Ghosts of Culloden Can you hear them, can you see them Marching proudly across the moor, Hear the wind blow thru the drifting snow, Tell me can you see them, the ghosts of Culloden. Many bravely fought and sadly they were slain, But they died with such pride and dignity, Their lives were not in vain, We still remember them, They fought to save their land, and died for liberty. Can you hear them, can you see them Marching proudly across the moor, Hear the wind blow thru the drifting snow, Tell me can you see them, the ghosts of Culloden. Thru the mist you'll hear - a lonely piper play, Listen carefully - you'll hear - a mournful cry, Swords and bayonets crash - as man to man they clash, They came to fight to live - and now they die. Can you…
My Jacobite ancestors fought in this battle and lost everything. It was a tragedy. I have a friend who visited Culloden, and she had to leave because she said that she was so affected by the atmosphere there, she felt very ill. She recovered when removed from the place. The ghosts are still there.
My son & I visited Culloden in 2019 with my brother & in 2019. We both piped on the field, very emotional. My brother passed away this pass Nov 2022. May they Rest In Peace
Every battle has its ghosts. There's always a winner and a looser. Colloden was just the defining symptom of the scouring of Scotland. The British were so pissed with having to deal with yet another rebellion that orders were given to slaughter anything that moved, having to do with the rising or not. For many miles around everything was killed, men, women, children, dogs, cattle, goats, even chickens. Fields were burned, homes were destroyed foodstores stolen. The Duke of Cumberland commanded they would have peace by ridding Scotland of Scots, and he came very close. For a dozen years after any man found with a wound, new or old, was considered an escapee from the field of battle and unceremoniously shot or hanged by the road for insurrection, even if the man couldn't have been old enough at the time to have been included. Whole villages of women and their children were herded out of their homes and the village burned, leaving them to die in the winter weather. Any boy over twelve was hanged or shot. Some counts say as much as fifty percent of the Scot people died. A deep famine that developed in the next several years killed more or drove people to sell themselves and their children as indentured servants and emigrate away. It was joked about in England that they should re-name Scotland to Sheepland because there were more sheep than people left.
I had ancestors who fought for The Bonnie Prince "Charles Edward Stuart" this song gives me the chills and makes me sad, that Charlie didn't listen to his advisors.
If only those brave souls had a competent commander in the Prince and John O'sullivan had been told to go jump in the lake maybe history would of turned out so differently. Brave souls never forgotten either side of the boarder.
Does anyone know the title of the movie from this video? If so, would you please let me know? This is one movie I will watch time after time. Thank you.
The most glaring inaccuracy is the fact in the actual battle the British for the first time used the Bayonet. This was not shown in this depiction. Its shown when they Bayonet the wounded but not the actual battle.
@@cathywilde2756 Its one of those weird ones where we KNOW the outcome....we KNOW Jamie survives and that BJR dies.....we've anticipated this. How they did it....in flashback...was a rather interesting choice though.
Complete hokum. The Highlanders called the battle Drumossie Moor. The Government called it Culloden after the neary Culloden House. The battle was fought in mid-April, so not a lot of snow around. Blood on the snow is an image of the Massacre of Glencoe in the laste 1690s. "Libertry" meant the continuance of the feudal Highland System - complete with serfdom. The Highland System also suported an Absolutist Catholic Monarchy like Charles I and James II/VIII. There would have been a Restoration of the Stuarts that would have returned Britian to Catholicism. There would have been no Industrial Revolution, or Imperial Expansion. There would have been no protestant-based liberal rights eg Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion/Conscience. Britiain would have ended up a rural backwater; more like Spain or Italy, rather than a military and economic superpower in the 19th century. Thank God, the Government won!! Some may wish to note that more Scots fought with the Government than the Pretender. More English fought with the Pretender than with the Government.
more mawkish romantic nonsense about the Jacobite Rebellion. It was never about "Freedumb" or liberty. It was simply about the ambitions of a Half-Polish Stuart Prince to claim the British throne,
this moved me to tears. i had an ancestor who fought there and survived to fight for freedom again here in the states. truly powerful song--your video made it all too real.well done!

Heart wrenching. And brutal. No wonder generations later many Scots want their country out from under English association. Vote yes!

Rupert deserved so much better. I think I was more angry about his storyline than hurt for Angus.

Season 2 Episode 13 of the Starz TV production of "Outlander"
The most part of video are from the Battle of Prestonpans, not Culloden.

The bayonet won the battle
Well most of the pics given were of the Presonpans battle not Culloden But yeah, brave men all
I know that but wanted to show this also cuz of the lines of fog in the music :)
Beautiful❤️
Hello scotland
love it ❤❤
Essas imagens da série, mostram tbem, a batalha anterior à Culloden.

Yes. It was the Battle of Prestonpans. The defeat of «Johnny» Cope.
