@FatherMullet right but when he made the career move, it wasnt. My point is that it wasnt a career move. They couldnt even pay him. He brought fans to the ufc
I agree. Joe Rogan is an absolute legend. His knowledge is amazing. His commentating skills are incredible. When he speaks and says stuff like “all he needs to do from this position is swing leg around grab his left arm” blah blah blah, and it HAPPENS?! Now that’s some next level knowledge. He predicts moves before they happen. It’s as interesting if not more interesting than some of the fights.
Joe got me interested in MMA . My little understanding of MMA comes from Joe explaining what is going and why it's diffecultt of a fighter to untangle himself from a certain grab
He’s had some high flying friends also. He went to high school with Lorenzo Fertitta who was a former member of Nevada state athletic commission (when Tyson bit Holyfields ear) and got him and his brother Frank Fertitta III to buy UFC. They had the cash, business acumen, political connections and insight to get the UFC the abilty to hold fights in every state eventually. But, with all that, Dana was the perfect face and voice for the UFC (brash, unapologetic and street smart. Truly the best fight promoter of all time.
There are a lot of fighters that are hella washed and Dana keeps in the ufc cause he likes them. Either that or he wants the new up and coming fighters to be able to easily beat up a legend 😂
i know they love and respect each other but its always nice seeing them talk about one another in good graces. most companies don’t have that type of relationship between the top 2
The difference between Conor and other sports legends staying hungry is, the beating you take in UFC is just so much more brutal than any other sport. Football is brutal too of course, but not constantly risking getting ur head kicked off like UFC
For someone that listened to Joe on and off for years, with no context of UFC and MMA (given where I live)- it was an absolute shock for me that this guy had been commentating on UFC fights for years. Joe is different
2nd time listening to this clip. Just picked up on Dana’s mention of Brady not being a guy who tries to break the bank. Chael says a lot of times people can’t come out and say the real reasons for things, but I think that’s what Dana did there.
Conor last fought in July 2021😂… I’ve always admired Dana because he’s absolutely brilliant. Joe Rogan was the first true celebrity of the UFC. His love for mma got me to enjoy ufc over 20 years ago
My uninformed take on it is that McGregor was not intrinsically motivated. He was talking about his fighting goals when he was poor and it was that he wanted to make $x millions and be a two division champ and one or two other things like that. He blew those goals out of the water. So, what next then? He wasn't aiming to be the best MMA guy of all time or anything like that. It's very difficult to become a champion, but it's even more difficult to maintain that status for long periods of time unless you are intrinsically motivated. And, it's probably even more difficult to be that way when your job is to get punched in the face.
Conor was never the same after getting that Floyd money. Look at his inactivity. That's what makes Floyd special. Even when he's getting 50-100 million per fight, he still trained everyday like he's broke.

Rogan’s podcast is probably the best free advertisement for MMA and the UFC ever!
He loved the UFC, and UFC loved him back.
Nowhere else will you hear Ronda Rousey's stand up was good enough to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr.
They need to give him exclusive rights to air fights on the podcast fight companions.
