@Max Power on eq 3 i have no idea, but i think Pantheon will do great, but i could be wrong...we will have to wait and see...hopefully by the end of this year though they will have a time table for a launch window i figured 2021
Thanks for all your hard work Daybreak team. :) I've been playing off and on (more on) since 2005. Sorry my inventory is so full it could probably has it's own server now!
You have such a professional "host" voice and your enthusiasm for interviewing and reporting on all things Everquest is amazing! I love watching these videos and I hope you continue to make them for a long time. As for Holly, if you read this, please make a truly classic server that stops at Velious! I would come back if a server like that existed.
Not true. It would take 2 years to go through Classic/Kunark on the classic timeline, then Velious would be released. The lifetime of the server would be roughly 3-5 years before I would consider it to be a dead server.
Good interview with some interesting info. Looking forward to the next episode and the announcements she mentioned. I wish they would do another Quarm style event server. That was a lot of fun.
As a long-time player of EQ, I'm going to say this....the games needs a "remaster" done. You're never going to grow your playerbase without giving it some modernization when it comes to engine, UI, graphics, animation, art, sound and music. You don't have to make a new game (EQ3). You just "recreate" the zones and all assets including mobs, NPC's, spells, etc. in an entirely new engine that makes it easier to develop and update, as well as giving the player a renewed experience. People like to say that 1st gen mmos aren't good because "if they were, they'd be more popular". Well, they aren't more popular because most people don't want to play a game that still looks/sounds/operates like a 20yo game, on their multi-thousand dollar PC. Their claim cannot be considered valid because no 1st gen mmo has been "refreshed" for the modern gamer. Do not change a thing design wise. That's the most important part. Just make it feel better and more "new-ish". Once that is done, another suggestion would be to create a new divergent path for expansions. Take your pick, but after Velious expansion or maybe Luclin, create new expansions from those points. Instead of wrecking the classic game design (with things like "level req'd items" or "PoK"), you stick to what was important with the classic era (the whole reason people return to play the TLP's). You want EQ to grow and be the king once again? Just listen to me. :)
@@rdizzy1 Of course. However, it would be wise to keep the remaining servers (TLP/Live) the way they are now. No reason to remove the nostalgia factor for those that want it. Definitely don't want another SWG-NGE issue.
While would be cool then we would have a Project 2021 EQ floating out there. Seriously, they just will not make such a massive business risk as to look at doing a re-master of EQ. Much as I'd love to see it myself it just will not happen.
@@BaraTwoswords That's true, it is a very serious risk. However, if I had a few million dollars to fund it, I would. Remember though, it's not creating a whole new game. It's just giving it a fresh paint job. I am aware that is probably a lot more work than I imagine as I'm not a programmer. But something must be done to advance the Everquest franchise. It's just going to continue to twiddle away to nothingness otherwise. Believe me, I'm a HUGE fan of EQ. I played for years, starting in early 2000, and have played on most of the TLP's. But I just can't keep doing it anymore. Not the way it is. I love the game, gameplay, and even the simple graphics---for a while. But after a period of time, it's irritating just knowing what it "could" be if money was invested, and a true heart was put into the game once again.
Awesome interview, by the way! I couldn't help but think that I may have adventured with Holly bitd! Role playing was always a fun activity on these servers and as soon as she said "Venne dui" it brought back some definite role playing highlights! Looking forward to the next video!
Just finished watching all the episodes! Love that you are making these! I'm a long time gamer but a new eq and eq2 player and I'm loving the games so far! I'll be at the EQ2 15th Anniversary event in San Diego on friday!
We need a new EQ. I played EQ from 99 to 2004 when OoW came out, and then moved to EQ2 from launch until 2013, an while both games will forever hold special places in my heart, neither is fun to play anymore. They are too bloated. Please use the wonderful lore, take the best aspects of both games, and give us a new Norrath.
I was a high-end raider (one of the top five guilds back then). I quit the game in 2009. Now, 10 years later, I still think of my character, my guild and the game itself. Every. Damn. Day.
There was a good article on EQ2Wire a few years ago that explains it pretty well. Short story is, it never really worked and there is a reason why Dave Georgeson was one of the first to be let go during the transition to Daybreak. Edit: Home from work, here is the link: eq2wire.com/2017/01/05/closing-the-book-on-everquest-next-and-landmark/
It’s been a while since you came out with anything. Are you still alive? Is there an iron in the fire (Episode 8)? You have a good show. If you can, please keep it going.
I came back to Mangler EQ after year's of being away. TLP servers was the best idea ever and I think more of them would be a great idea. They really need a way to reach old and new players to let them know it's happening. I have many friends that use to play that did not know about TLP. I'm thinking it's time for a fresh modern Trailer. They have the best art work of any fantasy game out there. Need to make sure and grow the player base and not open up new servers just for current players to migrate. Then I think Everquest has a good shot at coming back and challenging WoW and Pantheon.
Not sure, but somehow I always expect a little extra at the end, because there is something about the music and video quality that feels like it would have that little extra. Love the episodes!! :D
The only real hope of getting the classic feeling of Everquest, the one most of us fell in love with is Project 1999, even though it has drawbacks as well. I've tried the EQ Live progression servers, and it can be fun, it just doesn't feel like the classic game. It's mostly just a Krono-farming simulator.
I tried going back to a live server after years and it was dead, anyone there was high level and not around. I tried the new TLP servers starting from the beginning and it was a dream come true. I been playing everyday since then. Lot's of people and tons of fun. I play on Mangler and we are getting close to Luclin opening up so there is still time to jump in and catch up since Velious and Luclin are non level advancement expansions.
@@Demolition2024 I'm glad you're having a good time. I played on Phinigel, Lockjaw, and Agnarr. Of course I had fun, but for some reason I still don't get the feeling I get when playing Project 1999. The progression servers are great for old content, but it just felt too easy. There just wasn't the danger, the risk, and subsequently the reward like in the days when I played classic back in 1999. But then again, it's about having fun, and if you're enjoying it, keep going :) Everquest is a wonderful game, and really the first game I fell in love with as a kid. We all chase that feeling of being back in the old days.
I wish I could be a dev or even just a concept artist for the EQ series, it's been something I wanted to do since I was a kid was to just work with the same people who made the game series that made my life enjoyable. Also, like, all of my Everquest friends have no faith in the Everquest series becoming relevant again, and it sucks because Everquest 1 and 2 are only 2 of 3 MMOs I can play without getting bored.
10:00 With regard to everquest 1, there's basically no management of the social situation any more. I have seen so many situations where griefers get away with doing things that would have gotten them banned in the Sony days. If you are on a PVE server, you shouldn't have to worry about high level characters training a bunch of giants onto you because they want all the gold to sell on the black market. Dealing with the customer reps, I was basically told I was on my own. I considered making a youtube video of case after case I had recorded of people blatantly breaking the rules, and telling me they could get away with it because they were "whales", and they paid the company a lot of money in the ingame purchases. But I still love EQ2, so I just quit playing EQ1 and let it rot in pieces. I cannot imagine any new players wanting to join that game, not because of the old system - old games can be very popular, see classic WoW - but because the culture has degenerated into the whole cliche of gamers that is popular in media. Yep, if you want to show gamers at their worst, don't bother with one that the kids play - go for the entitled pay to win types, because they will happily arrange to have your family swatted if you get in the way of their gold farming operations.
While I already know the answer to this question (not enough resources) you gotta ask about upgrading the graphics and animations, and if it's even possible. Great Interview and great content!! :)
I'm not a expert but I think they would be limited to the old engine. Maybe they could start with a up to date engine and rebuild classic, release it on a tlp while they work on the next. I dunno that would seem pressured but at least they would have the ground work already done.
With all the nostalgic hooking talk why haven't they found a way to continue with the fabled expansions year by year that was my favorite event in EverQuest
I want a game that combines the spells, lore and world of Everquest with the melee combat of dark souls and level system of DDO and complexity/ alchemy tradeskills like the witcher
Combine everquest 1 and 2 into one game. The characters from each game would remain the same. If you want to play characters from either game you would have to log into that actual game. But the worlds would be combined, and characters from either game could go to zones from either game. For weapons/armor/items the usage ability would be just like no trade, lore, race, class etc; but a new section of eq or eq2 would be listed for older content. so all items would not have to be changed to be used by the opposite game. Achievements would be shown available for either game. For banking make the bank info available only for a zone for banking, with just currency and 4 spaces available to any bank.. The bank items are deposited into stay in that zones bank, so every different bank in the game could have its own inventory slots, even different banks in a zone could have different contents increasing banks storage drastically!!!! This will expand banks without slowing zoning. Just like housing, but a zone for banks, where that info is only stored for that zone when you log in. A file listed under an invisible character file that can be accessed by the real character to not effect loading. Make sense? You can promote the game combines of everquest , and everquest 2. You can also add in other sunset games in the same way just for extra content, once the games are combined. Using zones and quest etc, this does not have to include loot. Just make the characters able to work in the new zones... Get it?
WhiteWolf Darkpaw .... Keep it all different... Have more than one engine running at once. Like one engine running as normal eq2 zone for example, but you bring in a eq character into the zone. The eq player would overlay into the eq2 zone in a way. Write the code to work both engines in conjunction with one another. Its cutting edge, not done in two seconds. Or just have a bunch of sunsetting games because the numbers are not enough by themselves. But together would be beyond massive. People love their characters. People would love playing those characters in other games... Again don’t make the gear/items/etc from past content cross over. Make a new category like deity/race that is listed on the gear, but make it eq, or eq2. What if eq merged with wow and used this concept? It would be huge... Think of all the mmo of this type of genre. Using different engines is the issue? Thats what holds all this back? Its not impossible to code a way for engines to work together, and then work separately... You blend apples and oranges together make a great smoothie.. smh but engines don’t work together.... lol than make them work together. Besides what if a virtual world could be sewn together of tons if old games but used with a character from a game of the players choice! Start with eq/eq2 as a test. Than just add more and more. This is the future of gaming... watch... Why waste all the content when it could just be grown! Bringing different game together and different characters with different abilities...
Lot of thoughts here. These days, I mostly only play EQ2, and I play it on the TLE servers. That said, I'm overjoyed to hear the EQ2 LIVE audiences will be getting a new server. While TLE is the type of server for ME, I acknowledge that, as Holly said, Live is a different audience. Those folks will probably enjoy the energy and "newness" that comes with the feeling of a new server. It is interesting to hear that it is apparently quicker to create content for EQ2 than its predecessor; I might've actually guessed the opposite. :D Great interview, some very neat information shared and a very interesting look at THE face of EQ.
The game Rust proves that an extremely difficult, high risk/reward game is still viable. If an attempt at EQ3 is made, this should be noted. Also, she mentioned a focus on growing the player base (as would be a person in her role main priority) I must say your not doing a great job at it. Between SEO/online advertising and the fact that I, an MMORPG player/consumer, have never seen anything about EverQuest targeted to me is a huge problem. I am only watching this video because a friend at work mentioned EQ a few days ago, and with the launch of Mischief - TLPs some sort of advertising/targeting should have been done. I advertise for 2 of my clients who are subscription crate companies and it's easy and profitable. Hit me up, I'd be glad to pass on what knowledge on subscription marketing I have. I'd even move to San Diego temporarily and help with it. In the meantime, I'm going to try this Mischief server out.
Is there any chance Daybreak would ever release an "old school" EverQuest? Original EQ + Kunark + Velious only! Game mechanics and UI only and exactly as they existed back then. No AA, no maps, no Find, no PoK, etc. I would subscribe in a heartbeat! If not, would they be willing to release an EQ client that works as-is with Project 1999? I would be happy to give Daybreak money for that.
Instancing raids did fix the problem of petty arguments over raid rotations but also took so much away from the prestige of the best gear, the amazing immersive feeling of knowing when a dragon or god was 'up' that it was tangible and really there, across the continent, waiting for the next bunch of fools to try to beat them. Instances totally and utterly remove that magic, like, you pay for £10 a month.. here is your dragon kill!

Mangler is poping with people and so is Firionia vie...so im not sure what world you live on
@Max Power they are working on a new ip that isnt announced (eq 3?)and they contracted out EQ mobile but people are speculating that they are going to be sold soon...will have to wait and see
@Max Power on eq 3 i have no idea, but i think Pantheon will do great, but i could be wrong...we will have to wait and see...hopefully by the end of this year though they will have a time table for a launch window i figured 2021
Great Episode thank you!
Thank you.
Looking forward to the next one! Keep em coming!
Amazing interview !
Excellent show and interview.
Hope better show to come. Will look forward to them.
Hes a weatherman I believe.
Server would be dead in a year.
Not true. It would take 2 years to go through Classic/Kunark on the classic timeline, then Velious would be released. The lifetime of the server would be roughly 3-5 years before I would consider it to be a dead server.
P99 has been popular for years just going up to velious
HOLLY, where are the High End PST raid guilds? You are in San Diego?
Holly Longdale took a screenshot of my guild getting a server first Darathar kill on the Stormhold TLE server. :)
1000% agree. With all of the remasters being made for the past 10 years, it appears that Daybreak is still missing the boat on this.
If they do this, they should also restart the game and start again, like P99 style.
Fading, you just might have a hit show on your hands here. :) STELLAR job.
Just finished watching all the episodes! Love that you are making these! I'm a long time gamer but a new eq and eq2 player and I'm loving the games so far! I'll be at the EQ2 15th Anniversary event in San Diego on friday!
Wow. A brilliant interview. I really must allocate some proper game time and get back into this thing!
My gosh I am so excited about having my son & mommy at play! I hope.....we have THE GROUP! I'm going Cleric/Combat....... (O_o)
Great episode! Can't wait for more
We need a new EQ.
Check out Green p99 on oct 25th
That the fresh server? The new blue?
Yes new blue
I was a high-end raider (one of the top five guilds back then). I quit the game in 2009. Now, 10 years later, I still think of my character, my guild and the game itself. Every. Damn. Day.
Did you ask her behind the scenes what happened to EQ Next?
There was a good article on EQ2Wire a few years ago that explains it pretty well. Short story is, it never really worked and there is a reason why Dave Georgeson was one of the first to be let go during the transition to Daybreak.
Edit: Home from work, here is the link: eq2wire.com/2017/01/05/closing-the-book-on-everquest-next-and-landmark/
I would love to hear an honest answer to that question and to know what they think about Pantheon and how they think it will effect EQ.
Keep up the great work!
Great work!
Love this show, keep it up!!
Incredible stuff as always.
Great interview! I can't wait to see the future Daybreak interviews. I love the insider stuff!
@50 seconds in, the splash screen in the background says Holly Londgale. Which is it? :D
Fantastic!!!
I saw a dog gate.. are they allowed to bring in four legged employees?
Yes, there are often as many pups in the building as there were people. In fact during one interview a dog interrupted.
I interviewed to be a GM once, and my interviewer's goldie was hanging out.
You have to ask about updating the character graphics!!
Holly Windstalker
With all the nostalgic hooking talk why haven't they found a way to continue with the fabled expansions year by year that was my favorite event in EverQuest
Londgale (monitor) or Longdale (title)?
It is a typo on the monitor graphic. Yep. Good eye!
Get it?
Different engines, different gear sets, different ways of doing abilities...... yea, you're asking to cross apples and oranges.
Holly Longdale is the most beautiful woman in the world right now.
Amazing and beautiful questions were answered EverQuest you're amazing I love you guys
I saw that Londgale typo lol nice try
Yep! Didn't catch it until after the fact, and just thought it better to leave it in. I'm only human! /beg forgiveness.
Great interview, some very neat information shared and a very interesting look at THE face of EQ.
Oh my i always come wayy to late. I feel so guilty being 4 days late
Wait wtf? Really? Is we coming back?
Great interview
Is there any chance Daybreak would ever release an "old school" EverQuest? Original EQ + Kunark + Velious only! Game mechanics and UI only and exactly as they existed back then. No AA, no maps, no Find, no PoK, etc. I would subscribe in a heartbeat!
If not, would they be willing to release an EQ client that works as-is with Project 1999? I would be happy to give Daybreak money for that.
There are a lot of people that would sign up for this, im a little suprised they have not tried this to be honest.
It exists, project 99 green server opening oct 27th
Instancing raids did fix the problem of petty arguments over raid rotations but also took so much away from the prestige of the best gear, the amazing immersive feeling of knowing when a dragon or god was 'up' that it was tangible and really there, across the continent, waiting for the next bunch of fools to try to beat them. Instances totally and utterly remove that magic, like, you pay for £10 a month.. here is your dragon kill!
That was an awesome interview. As I watched it, I am in Halas on my 60 shaman working on Jewelry Making for the Shawl Quest. Just got 180 Skill. I am on Mangler and we are in Velious. To bad i have to wait a month for Luclin to come out for the 8th Shawl, but I WILL have everything ready for it when it POPS!! ~Marilize Legaljuana 60 Shaman ~
