“Melissa” is off this album. It has a laid back, Country/southern rock feel to it as well. “Little Martha” is a solo acoustic piece by Duane that only clocks in at about 2 minutes, so it might not be reviewable, but definitely give it a listen. Finally, “Jessica” is off their next album. It’s an instrumental, but very much has that Dickey Betts sense of melody that “Blue Sky” has.

As a teenager, my Dad and I had a music store, we'd have an open jam on Tuesday and Thursday nights, Scooter Almon, Greg's cousin, who toured with them a few times playing guitar, bought the Hammond B3 organ that Greg played on this album, after it fell off the back of the truck. He had it fixed and set it up in our shop and I got to do some rewiring on it and the Leslie speaker cabinet. Scooter would play it and sing at the weekly jams. I used to love playing bass and jamming with musicians far better than me. I loved playing this song with Scooter singing and playing that killer B3. This were good days. I'd give anything to go back and do it once more.

After looking at some comments I guess I'm not the only one who thinks of this as a 'driving in my car on a sunny day' song. I was driving down Hines Drive one late spring day MANY years ago when this song came on the radio. It was one of those perfect spring days, warm and sunny, windows down, trees and bushes blooming, the trees with that fresh, almost fluorescent green color to them. And I was in musical and seasonal heaven for about five minutes. Such a great memory. This is one of my all-time favorite guitar solos, just perfection. So melodic, with those duets interspersed with Duane and Dicky soloing. It doesn't get much better. Hines Drive winds through Hines Park (not far from Detroit) for about 17 miles. All the way from Dearborn to Northville on either side the road has open, grassy areas, picnic areas big and small, baseball diamonds, a dog park, little exercise areas, and a bike/walking path running through most of it. It used to be a huge partying spot in the 60's and 70's and into the 80's but eventually that ended. If you drove down Hines Drive on a Friday or Saturday night, almost anywhere along most of the 17 miles, it would be jammed with people pulled over and partying, hanging out, listening to or playing music, playing frisbee,...., something that is unimaginable to anyone who wasn't around back in those days. Oh the memories!

Duane did play on this track that was on the "Eat a Peach" album. It was recorded three weeks before he passed. You can tell it's Duane playing the first segment of the long guitar solo as his picking attack was more pronounced than that of Dickie Betts. If you listen to the album with stereo headphones on, Duane's solo part is the first solo and is on the left channel, and when Dickie comes in for the second part, it's played on the right channel. When they started harmonizing and blended the solo you got this beautiful. creamy melding of tones between Duane's Les Paul and Dickies ES335. Most of their albums were mixed this way. If you listen carefully, you can hear the click of Duane's guitar pick hitting the string, as opposed to Dickies softer touch. Truly a remarkable track and a great song written by Dickie Betts.

It is actually two solos. First up is Duane, he starts his solo at 2:21 of your video. Then at 3:44, Dickey Betts rejoins and the two play a harmonized bridge which transitions to Dickey’s solo at 3:54. At 6:45, you hear Duane rejoin Dickey for the outro to the solos, which then goes back to the vocals. BTW, when you listen to this, Duane is to the Left in the mix and Dickey to the Right. You are hearing two of greatest pair of guitarists working together! So glad you did this. Sorry it took so long for me to find you guys.

"Blue Sky" is a song by the American rock band the Allman Brothers Band from their third studio album, Eat a Peach (1972), released on Capricorn Records. The song was written and sung by guitarist Dickey Betts, who penned it about his girlfriend (and later wife), Sandy "Bluesky" Wabegijig. The track is also notable as one of guitarist Duane Allman's final recorded performances with the group. The band's two guitarists, Duane Allman and Dickey Betts, alternate playing the song's lead: Allman's solo beginning 1:07 in, Betts joining in a shared melody line at 2:28, followed by Betts's solo at 2:37. The song is notably more country-inspired than many songs in the band's catalogue.
    Background
His debut as a vocalist for the band, Dickey Betts composed "Blue Sky" about his Indigenous Canadian girlfriend, Sandy "Bluesky" Wabegijig, whom he would later marry. The lyrics leave out any references to gender to make it nonspecific: "Once I got into the song I realized how nice it would be to keep the vernaculars-he and she-out and make it like you’re thinking of the spirit, like I was giving thanks for a beautiful day. I think that made it broader and more relatable to anyone and everyone," he later said.[3] Betts initially wanted the band's lead vocalist, Gregg Allman, to sing the song, but guitarist Duane Allman encouraged him to sing it himself: "Man, this is your song and it sounds like you and you need to sing it."[3] An embryonic version of the song can be found on the fan bootleg, The Gatlinburg Tapes, a recording of the band jamming in April 1971 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.[4]
The song was one of Duane Allman's last recorded performances with the band. "As I mixed songs like "Blue Sky," I knew, of course, that I was listening to the last things that Duane ever played and there was just such a mix of beauty and sadness, knowing there's not going to be any more from him," said Johnny Sandlin.

The Allman Bros Band were so damn special! I never got to see the band but did get to see Gregg before he passed. That line about the river just keeps on flowing and not worrying about where it's going is how I have lived most of my life. Music like this has always been my refuge from life, my sanctuary. I wish you both blue skies and sunny days!

The spiritual successor to Allman Brothers Band are the Tedeschi Trucks Band. Derek Trucks played in the Allman Bros the final 10 years or so and took the bass player Oteil Burbridge with him to the Tedeschi Trucks Band.

They formed in Jacksonville, FL, moved to Atlanta for awhile, and settled in Macon, GA: home of Otis Redding, Little Richard, James Brown (moved there later), Jason Aldean, and 2 members of REM . Chuck Leavell moved there also. Leavell was keyboardist for Allman Brothers for awhile and heavily played on their song "Jessica" (big hit). Leavell has played on many of the great's albums and has been the keyboardist for The Rolling Stones since the early 80's.

Excellent choice and Amber definitely picked on the soulful energy in this song. I mean her entire body pirates to the dual drummers she would be fabulous on the dance floor showing everyone how to get it done. The song has two solos one from Dicky the other is from Duane the trick is to understand who is playing.

Actually Duane Allman played on most of the tracks on Eat A Peach including Blue Sky as it was mostly recorded before his untimely death. In fact there is a track called Little Martha that he wrote and recorded on this album. Blue Sky happens to be one of my most favorite songs of all time. In fact it is assigned as my wife's ring tone on my phone as she is my Blue Sky!
