This song actually has Duane Allman and Dickey Betts on the dual guitar solos, it had already been recorded before Duane’s untimely death. This was written and sung by Dickey Betts 🔥
I wonder was this DA last recording ?
@@gratefulkm if not his absolute last, one of his last.
one of the last three with Stand Back & Little Martha
I got to meet Dickie Betts as I worked at Red Rocks. He is nice guy and played his guitar the whole time we were there. NO down time for that guy!! This is a dual solo!! Allman Brothers were always one of the best bands to go to see.

@@hcteacher6874 I envy you
You can’t not love this song, it’s an absolute masterpiece!
The melodic flow of guitar ideas seems never ending.
It’s the perfect “this is gonna be a good day” song when you leave the house in the morning to commute.
Masterful in ever sense of the word!
It's the song they'll play in my funeral
RIP, Dickey Betts!
Allman Brothers with Duane is one of the most legendary, badass bands of all time. They were still great after he died, but they were godly while he was still alive
Agree.
Agree!
You don’t love me, from the filmore album was my favorite guitar solo ever!
Was in a small club in Columbia, SC, late 60s, early 70s, the Allmans were doing a concert in town. Sometime after 11:30 PM, Duane, Gregg and Jaimoe walked in. The band stopped and the three played for 11/2 hours. Good times. Peace out.
Isn't that just a great song? You're right Amber, it gives you such a great feeling. Next try Jessica. Another one that makes you happy with no words. ✌️❤️
Yes
Yes
Yes
Yes!
The first guitar solo is Duane. One of the last things he recorded. It segues into Dickey Betts solo for the second half.
Actually, I believe Dicky played the first lead while Duane finished it off.
Sorry, you're right . Duane is the first lead. Haven't heard the song in a while - listened again and It's unmistakable that Duane is first.
Listen to the isolated guitar tracks for Blue Sky. They're great! Available with a quick You Tube search!
Duane and Dickey mastered the art of guitar harmony
My favorite song of ABB interplay between Duane and Dickie.
This is in the top 100 guitar songs of all time.
This is my favorite “driving song,” specially on a country road on a sunny summer day - a little slice of heaven on earth!
SAME HERE. Its a must for me on any road trip
hiking song for me, but same difference
Same, dude.
Ahh so I’m not the only one, my favorite sunny Sunday morning get in the car and ride the back roads song here in the hills of Alabama
Amen brother!
Two of their most popular songs were guitar 🎸 jams with “no vocals necessary”😁 My two personal favorites! “In Memory of Elisabeth Reed” and “Jessica”💖 Both songs just take you to another place with nothing but the band playing you there🤟✌️🫶
Do Liz Reed live at Filmore East,
@@duanebrauer3867 Definitely!
Mountain Jams like a TV special in itself lol. 33 minutes.
"You Don't Love Me," "Stormy Monday," "Dreams," and "Mountain Jam" are more extended-time ABB songs. Also try "Loan Me A Dime" on Boz Scaggs' album with beautiful Duane solos. For a hardcore, electrified blues tune you shouldn't miss, go for "It's Not My Cross to Bear." ruclips.net/video/06prmmXXwb8/видео.html
@@paulmosmiller1716I like to label "Mountain Jam" as "Hippiedom's National Anthem"!
Sad to hear today 4-18-2024 Dickie Betts passed. The writer of this song and many others. And is the lead singer and guitarist on this and many. God 😢R.I.P. DB GOT ME THROUGH MY TEEN YEARS IN 70 TO 76
Me too, I'm 69, but Blue Sky was never played like it was on Eat a Peach.
This entire album is a “kick your shoes off and sip on an adult beverage” jam ❤️😜
A little scoob and some tunes 👌
I've seen the Allman's 5 times. Once you see them live, it's easy to see why they are who they are. Next level greatness
YES! So correct. Just a casual fan here. But I have seen them live twice. The live performance makes so much of a difference. Some bands are just like that.
Agreed! Saw them maybe 10 times. Always a blast. One time around ‘86 in Norfolk Betts was pissed and smashed a Les Paul I think it was.
I've only seen them once, with Warren Haynes.......but absolutely, without a doubt, the absolute best live band I've ever seen. They stretched songs into 20-30 minute jams of total brilliance.
I have seen them 5 times as well including a show from their farewell run at the Beacon Theater. Love the original lineup, but Duane and Berry passed when I was about 14 so I never got to see this lineup. Much as I love Dickey Betts, their last lineup of Greg Allman, Butch Trucks and Jaimoe from the originals along with Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks and Oteil Burbridge was just effing brilliant!
I also was fortunate to see these guys 4 times. Three times before Duane died, once after. They never disappointed, and for me along with The Mahavishnu Orchestra, Sly and the Family Stone, and Earth Wind and Fire were the most exciting live bands I ever saw.
The song was actually written by Dickey Betts for his girlfriend at the time. She was Cherokee and her Cherokee name translated into Blue Sky.
This is in my all time top ten, maybe even 2 or 3. The guitar solo makes me think of water flowing down a creek with the sun glinting off the ripples and sandstone at the bottom.
With you there, definitely in my top 5, gets close to Ten Years Gone and Stairway for feelings drawn. That opening riff is the first i learned on guitar. Used to sing this walking my 2 dogs Jess and Mitzi along the Diamond Creek walking trail early mornings. Dickey always staying in major key is what makes his songs so happy, but bloody hard to actually do!
Dickey Betts guitar always makes me think of birds singing. Beautiful player.
“Melissa” is off this album. It has a laid back, Country/southern rock feel to it as well. “Little Martha” is a solo acoustic piece by Duane that only clocks in at about 2 minutes, so it might not be reviewable, but definitely give it a listen. Finally, “Jessica” is off their next album. It’s an instrumental, but very much has that Dickey Betts sense of melody that “Blue Sky” has.
Stressed out? Sit or lay down and listen to this fantastic tune. Pretty sure you won't be stressed by the time the song ends.
My very favorite guitar duet. It's magical. The guitars play the title. Blue sky. ☮💛🎶
Oh my God! Ain't Wastin Time No More (Gregg sounds amazing on this one) and Melissa! And One Way Out are all on Eat a Peach! I promise you will love each one!
You 2 are so beautiful when you let your souls shine!! thank you! my little 2020 hippies!!! HAHAHA
The Allmans are the ultimate driving song band. They make the highways shrink. ✌️
Can't feel bad after hearing Blue Sky. GREAT song, puts a smile on your face
Dickie Betts…..one of his best vocals!
One of the legendary albums of rock history.
Another really good one by them is called Midnight Rider. Classic southern rock song.
OMG yes Midnight Rider
Yeah that's a good one
Dickey betts on vocals and both dickey and Duane allman on guitar solos ... Duane is on this track and a few others on “eat a peach”
No auto tune. It’s the real deal. It sounds damn good.
This, by far, is my FAVE Allman Bros song!!! I have met Dicky Betts many times and he is always such a nice guy.
He has chilled. Way back when still with the group he was a wild man. lol. cool. but sheesh he def could have a temper on him. way to much coke back in the day got to him. im glad he is healthy and doin his thing.
Another fantastic, uplifting Dickey Betts song - JESSICA, an instrumental written about his infant daughter, crawling in from the next room to hear him play his guitar. He wrote it on the spot!
Love Blue Sky and Dickey's voice!
Gregg and the boys will knock your socks off with Jelly Jelly!!
This song along with "Revival" and "Jessica" are the A. Brothers best!
Dickey Betts wrote this song about his girlfriend native American Sandy "Bluesky" Wabegijig.
Duane is there. He plays on a few of the Eat a Peach tunes. Recorded before his death. Also, he was rated #2 guitarist in the world behind Jimi Hendrix, from around 1970 until around 2005.
The slogan went “Eat a peach for peace”…
We need this. Thank you.
Blue Sky and Melissa are my favorite Allman songs, brings me back to a better time with a beer in hand and friends by my side
I can't say enough about the listening pleasure from the Allman Bros
My favorite from the Allmans, always brings me vlose to tears of joy. Serious. The guitar part is unequalled.
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "Melissa" and "Jessica"!!!
It is actually two solos. First up is Duane, he starts his solo at 2:21 of your video. Then at 3:44, Dickey Betts rejoins and the two play a harmonized bridge which transitions to Dickey’s solo at 3:54. At 6:45, you hear Duane rejoin Dickey for the outro to the solos, which then goes back to the vocals. BTW, when you listen to this, Duane is to the Left in the mix and Dickey to the Right. You are hearing two of greatest pair of guitarists working together! So glad you did this. Sorry it took so long for me to find you guys.
This band was the best Southern Rock Band IMO. Their blues side was amazing.
In my opinion there's The Allman Brothers Band and there's everyone else
@@pattivernucci691 yeah, they're too badass to be limited by the "southern rock" tag.
This is my dedication to my grandchildren. My Blue Sky. The amazingly intertwined guitars always remind me of a solo camping trip I did back in the 90’s (pre grandkids). I was hiking along a creek in the mountains, and the way the water flowed and danced from stone to stone immediately put this song in my head.
Thank You, Enjoy!
I'm 57 back in 73 I had a chance to see them live with my older brother. But our mom wouldn't let me go.. I loved my mom very much, she had her reasons. Regretfully I never got to see them live.
My favorite Dickie on lead vocals. And of course his killer guitar solo
I was 14 in '74, won tickets to see Rod Stewart at a local arena but my mom wouldn't let me go either. Ha! I loved Rod and didn't get to see him live until 1996. But he was really fabulous.
Our mothers were trying to prevent us from becoming juvenile delinquents i guess. LOL
@JRox 60 Update...My Brother and I turned out to be upstanding citizens... Lol
@@arthurimhof2427 yeah, me, too. You were only maybe 9? No way would I have let my 9 year old son go to a concert either. And back then a lot of contraband was passed around among the audience.😜
Such a great song. It’s just peaceful and calm. It’s a great driving song on a warm breezy day. Amber I knew exactly what you mean when you talked about walking along the river, and just the feeling.
Nicely done!
Blue sky, Sun riding high, dusty back roads, bottle of wine cooling in a stream, me and my girl skinny dipping…. Been there, done that…and the Allmans… good times!
Glad you guys got to this one. When my niece was born blonde with crystal blue eyes, my sister worked night shift and my brother-in-law worked days so I filled in. I used to walk around with this beautiful baby girl and sang this song to her over and over. Never failed to make he smile. She's now 30 and says she remembers those early days. Still the light of my life.
Jessica is an amazing song of theirs. It’s an instrumental & it’s fantastic!
The first solo is Duane, the second is Dickey. Dickey wrote the song for his Indian wife, Blue Sky.
the guitar tones very similar, but the styles different as always. Bless all those brothers.
I believe her name was Sandy Blue Sky. She was Native Canadian, IIRC.
One of the very best dual guitars ever. When they come in together, it is pure magic and joy.
You guys are resurrecting the soundtrack of my youth. I saw The Allman Brothers on their Eat a Peach tour.
Lucky.
The first half of the solo is Duane and the second half is Dickie. There's an absolutely brilliant live version of Blue Sky with Duane from 1971.
SUNY Stonybrook… The actual recording is terrible but the playing is magical!
Both are right, the way it flows in the freedom of life with the heart beat of life! Nicely done!
Almost impossible to have a bad day with this song playing
Gregg Allman has some great solo tunes.."BEFORE THE BULLETS FLY", "QUEEN OF HEARTS", 'I'M NO ANGEL"🎸🎶🎸🎵🎸🎶🎸🎵🎸🎶🎸🎵🎸🎶😍
Greg's first solo album was his best as all the songs were all keepers: Multi-Colored Lady, Queen of Hearts, and my personal favorite All My Friends,
As a teenager, my Dad and I had a music store, we'd have an open jam on Tuesday and Thursday nights, Scooter Almon, Greg's cousin, who toured with them a few times playing guitar, bought the Hammond B3 organ that Greg played on this album, after it fell off the back of the truck. He had it fixed and set it up in our shop and I got to do some rewiring on it and the Leslie speaker cabinet. Scooter would play it and sing at the weekly jams. I used to love playing bass and jamming with musicians far better than me. I loved playing this song with Scooter singing and playing that killer B3. This were good days. I'd give anything to go back and do it once more.
Ver underrated guitarist! Dickey Betts! Love him and all the guys in Allman Brothers band! Great, great stuff! And of course Duane on slide!! RIP Brothers!❤️❤️
This albums name came from a quote from Duane Allman.
When asked “what are you doing for the revolution?” He answered “I eat a peach for peace”.
RIP Duane
Dreams are my favorite Allman Brothers Band song. It is just a a low key chill song that can lure you to reflection.
Love the smile on Jay's face when Duane hits the first lick of that solo.
Dickey also wrote Jessica, which had a similar vibe. He wrote it watching his daughter bouncing around the room and tried to capture her spirit with the song.
Such a beautiful, serene song. Always picks me up hearing it.
I was raised listening to this song long ago...its still great today. ABB is still one my favorite band.
After looking at some comments I guess I'm not the only one who thinks of this as a 'driving in my car on a sunny day' song. I was driving down Hines Drive one late spring day MANY years ago when this song came on the radio. It was one of those perfect spring days, warm and sunny, windows down, trees and bushes blooming, the trees with that fresh, almost fluorescent green color to them. And I was in musical and seasonal heaven for about five minutes. Such a great memory. This is one of my all-time favorite guitar solos, just perfection. So melodic, with those duets interspersed with Duane and Dicky soloing. It doesn't get much better. Hines Drive winds through Hines Park (not far from Detroit) for about 17 miles. All the way from Dearborn to Northville on either side the road has open, grassy areas, picnic areas big and small, baseball diamonds, a dog park, little exercise areas, and a bike/walking path running through most of it. It used to be a huge partying spot in the 60's and 70's and into the 80's but eventually that ended. If you drove down Hines Drive on a Friday or Saturday night, almost anywhere along most of the 17 miles, it would be jammed with people pulled over and partying, hanging out, listening to or playing music, playing frisbee,...., something that is unimaginable to anyone who wasn't around back in those days. Oh the memories!
More Allmans! Check out "Melissa" and "No One Left to Run With"
This is my absolute favorite " roll down the windows on a summer day and crank it up song! The miles just disappear, and I am grinning ear to ear! Can we talk about those guitars?🎸🎸🎶😎
RIP Dickey Betts😢
Whoever said Duane Allman didn't play on this song was wrong.
Riding down a country road on a sunny day
I'm 31 this has been my favorite song for about ten years it never gets old I hear at least once a week
We played the new album Eat A Peach, put our daughter to bed, then we went to bed. I got up after midnight, when everyone was asleep. The living room was dark, I put on the headphones and listened to Blue Sky over and over for the next hour, then returned to bed. Love that song.
Actually Duane Allman played on most of the tracks on Eat A Peach including Blue Sky as it was mostly recorded before his untimely death. In fact there is a track called Little Martha that he wrote and recorded on this album. Blue Sky happens to be one of my most favorite songs of all time. In fact it is assigned as my wife's ring tone on my phone as she is my Blue Sky!
Sitting here in my Allman brothers crew sweatpants and looking back 30 years ago.
Enjoy the greatness....I sure have.❤
Finally, "Blue Sky"!🤗🌞🌻 Consistently rated among the top guitar solos of "all time". When people think of guitar solos, they generally tend to think about the speed and dexterity of the guitarists finger but rarely think of the melodic factor (November Rain, anyone?). This is a melodic guitar solo that just steals your soul and takes you on a walk down a road alongside a peaceful river on a bright, sunny, day. The lyrics that describe the river in this song (to me) are reminiscent of Ray Charles'- Old Man River which uses similar descriptive words.😉 Peace and love🕊❤
Dickey Betts was so good at these happy, upbeat melodic masterpieces...I can almost hear those guitars laughing! Such a joyous tune!
YEA!! One of the best songs from one of the best bands. I saw them once when Duane was still alive and several times after.
The back to back solos are the 2nd and 3rd verses. Dickey and Duane's best work. This song changed my life.
The Allman Bros Band were so damn special! I never got to see the band but did get to see Gregg before he passed. That line about the river just keeps on flowing and not worrying about where it's going is how I have lived most of my life. Music like this has always been my refuge from life, my sanctuary. I wish you both blue skies and sunny days!
Anyone who appreciates music knows this is a great song! Glad you enjoyed the guitar jam solo.
I would suggest “Stormy Monday” and “Statesboro Blues” from the Live at the Filmore” album if you want to hear them (with Dwayne) play the electric blues. Great solos, great vocals etc.
The Allman Brothers Band were absolute masters at having two guitars play solos in harmony, like at 3:43 and 6:50. Such a unique and fantastic sound.
Dickey Betts just the sweetest guitar.. GREAT SONG
The ultimate feel good song. Love listening to it when driving on a beautiful summer day ! Turn up the volume and enjoy ! Thanks for reacting to it
Dickie Betts on vocals, Duane was killed in his motorcycle accident during the recording of this album, Barry Oakley, the bass player, died in another motorcycle accident about a year and only a half mile from where Duane died
I love Barry’s cover of Hoochie Coochie Man.
There's a really cool video of Tedeschi Trucks band performing Bound For Glory in Atlanta where Derek plays Duane's Les Paul and Otiel Burbage plays Barry's Fender
Actually, his name was Berry, not Barry. I'm not trying to be critical, just informative.
This song makes any day a little better, just lovely.
I had that album in college.1970s
The late great Duane!
Allman Brothers, one of the best of the Southern Rock bands ever.
la mejor banda de rock de la historia
Finally! Yes! 👊🏻❤️
Dickie wrote this about his wife Sandy Bluesky not sure her last name she was a Native American! They were only married a couple years! That is Duane playing the first solo With Dickie coming in to do the second solo, Dickie wanted Greg Allman to sing this but Duane talked him telling him this is your song you need to sing it!😊
Duane's slide work is the stuff of legends. Thankfully, he shared his expertise with so many before he departed this world.
My favourite from them for many, many years. The guitar solo, and guitar tone, are masterful on this. Beautiful!
(Live At) Fillmore East...Brothers And Sisters...So many great albums...so many great songs...
una cancion mas de la larga lista de grandes canciones que nos dejaron los allman brothers, para mi. la mejor banda de rock de la historia
Eat a Peach was released after Duane’s death, and it was dedicated to him. But, it is a collection of many of the last songs he played with the Brothers!
My favorite song by Allmans and one of favorite songs of all time. Just makes you feel good
It's about time Blue Sky is being reacted to!
My favorite Allmans Brothers song and thats saying something .........its so mellow and uplifting at the same time. LOVE IT!
I just love the way Rob sways to the solo and the song in general, its exactly how i hear and feel the music..Dickey Betts at his best.
I'm not the biggest Allman brothers fan but this song is an absolute vibe. I love Dickey Betts
Such a great song! And that’s Duane Allman *and* Dicky Betts on a guitar *DUET*! They trade solos and also play together on guitar harmonies (something the Allmans perfected). Thanks for reacting to this and sharing it with us. I think this might have been Duane’s last time in the studio on official release.
And for another song on this album, if you haven’t done “One Way Out”, which is a classic blues song that they made their own, and is a live recording. One of
My favorites. And has a story in it. Check it out!
In Memory of Elizabeth Reed is a good song by The Allman Brothers.
One of the best!
I’ve been listening to the Allman Brothers since mid 70s when I was stationed in Germany at all her albums and they still sound great today. I actually work in Jacksonville at the airport and I’ve met Gregg Allman a few years ago. Just a wonderful guy.
Eat a Peach was a road trippin' album. Been listening to it since I was in high school. (graduated in 74) Thanks for playing this. Oh, female Friday is coming up. Joe Bonamassa and Mahalia Barnes "Riding with the Kings" is a great song. Hey, would I steer ya wrong?
