      Yeah I was scared too, it brought me nightmares when I've seen it, I wonder if any kid now gets those feelings if they play this game, the fear in the first cutscene (well it wasn't the good part if you ask me)or the excitement we had for this game back to these days... Whatever computers could't create back to these days, our imagination could...if you know what I mean. Im feeling lucky that I was born this times, there are many things that kids now won't come accross because they have their fancy 1080p games now...

    The "item get" sound sounds like the one from the NES Castlevania games, and I've heard people say even the death jingle heard in Castlevania (I) and Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse is also recycled here. You gotta love Konami...

    Thank you so much for sharing this -- due to the popuarlity of the SNES Batman returns game, this (arguably superior) game is seriously underappreciated online. Most 'History of Batman game' lists miss out on this one. Thanks for posting this! My whole childhood prior to the release of the adv. of batman & robin on SEGA was spent on this.

    • @MythopoeicNavid
      @MythopoeicNavid 8 лет назад +1

      alxxpspqr That's a very good observation regarding the TMNT 2 engine -- and you're right the graphics alone suggest that. I am a fan of the music though, the rather foreboding and cold theme perhaps resonates with my earliest memories too much to suggest a forgotten world, haha. I remeber the NES and SNES versions as well, not too fan of Return of the Joker but they all prove one thing; The awesomeness of the Batman video-game franchise!

    • @MythopoeicNavid
      @MythopoeicNavid 8 лет назад +2

      alxxpspqr Well the critical success of later Batman games do qualify it as 'awesome.' As for a forgotten world, haha yes perhaps I could've phrased it better -- but what I meant was that its music was very evocative of the Batman Returns movie.
      Thanks!

    I remember that my parents bought me once a bootleg disc with a TON of NES ports for my PS1 as a very little young kid, and found my mother playing this (she loves the Batman things) and then I give it a shot. It was a lot of fun in a nice afternoon.
    Shamefully, I don't know where my PS1 is; I lost it like 10 years ago.

      I'm with ya there. The SNES game, like many others, have that 'underwater' sound. So everything blends in and gets bland quickly.
      Whereas the NES had some catchy beats. Plus, doesn't hurt I'm nostalgic as crap to the nes version. Then with how hard the bosses are, that boss music always brought fear to me.
      Nothing compares to the Mega CD version music though xD

    • @tatsumaru12345
      @tatsumaru12345 8 лет назад

      alxxpspqr A low pass filter wouldn't typically increase the quality in sound. All that does, is cut off higher frequencies you don't want played. So say you don't have a tweeter on your speaker, its good to cut off with a low pass filter around 12khz or so.
      I'll agree though! All those games have great soundtracks. But they all also have this 'underwater' disctinct sound to them too. Some games like mario world don't have it at all. Others like batman returns, I dunno. It drives me nuts nowadays xD May not bother anyone else

    While it looks interesting and potentially good, it also kinda looks like one of the TMNT games, just re-skinned. The gameplay seems to be almost exactly like TMNT 2 & TMNT 3

      Yeah, same engine and all... but it is actually quite entertaining. Beat it twice back in the day. Not a bad game.

    I had this nes cart as a kid. My god, was it difficult. Or so it was for me at the time.
    I remember being so excited at 27:00. But I never made it past that next boss!

    10:58 Why didn't you destroy those cat heads on the stage 2-2 (Shreck's department store)?
    You should have hit its eye with the grappling hook and some of them give you HP.

    I wonder what would the game look like if it was made by Sunsoft. If only there was an 89 video game for SNES.

    Never got a chance to play this at a kid. I had the SNES version instead. Though the talking Penguin at the end of this game makes me wish I had a chance to play it even more.

    Gotta point out that you missed collectibles on stage 2-2. They're in cat eyes and can be obtained with grappling hook.

    AVGN somehow overlooked this one. Maybe he didn't have it.

      +Big Fat Man Yeah. He also missed The Adventures of Batman and Robin for the Sega Genesis.

      +Big Fat Man There are a number of Batman games not included in his video. (same with the Spiderman one, both characters have a lot of games)

      +Big Fat Man He didn't cover the NES Batman games too much, because his goal is to talk about _shitty games that suck ass._ This game isn't shitty nor does it suck ass.
