Not only did this game have that MMC-3 chip(or MMC-5) to help with some of the graphic enhancements, but more famously has a unique special sound chip to be able to sound like it does. I believe the only other game to utilize that sound chip was Mr. Gimmick. Too bad Batman:ROTJ is not very fun, it is so clunky on all versions.
At least a few times per week, I mutter the words "Hooah... made it through-ah" to myself and think of Arcus and his Ninja Gaiden runs. Makes me happy.
Excuse me Arcus, but are you possibly the most chill speedrunner ever to have existed? I just can't fathom how absolutely rock solid and cool you're keeping yourself while playing challenging speedruns, drinking stuff and commenting on chat at the same time, all with a very comforting voice as well. Love it!
Its nice to watch him, compared to say 98% of youtube. I dont need monotone, but, its nice he is so calm and seems happy as well. I get tired of youtube people who have to dramatize every single thing that happens. Glad I found his channel now if I could just catch one of his streams.
Nice thing about finding this channel recently and watching some of the old vids is that it’s inspired me to go back and attempt to beat some of the retro games that tormented me as a child. Finally beat Zelda 2 yesterday went from a game I spent decades hating to a Zelda game I actually kind of appreciate now. Go figure. Great run, really enjoying the vids.
Naoki Kodaka and his team made some killer music back in the day. Def worth checkin out all the other games they did the soundtracks for. Niko's 8BitStereo has enhanced versions, highly recommended.
It's like Batman has Uncle Fester's gun from Fester's Quest. On second thought, it feels like it uses a lot of the same sound effects as well. Blaster Master as well. Guess Sunsoft reused assets.
Well, when you have some awesome assets to use, no need to not repeat them in other games. Back then, development was so different from today, they almost had to.
You know you are watching a top world record holding speed runner when he make a game this hard look so easy and smooth. I never beat this game like the other Batman. Not even close. Not only are you flying through the game, but keeping a cool head while reading chat. Damn legend! I would get frustrated by my little sister running into my room and asking me questions while trying to play these games. I was never one of these kids who broke their controllers, but I did cuss and use some choice words.
I don't even think I could do this if I studied the videos move for move. Even with the information here and at my finger tips I still think this is far past what I could do in the amount of time Arcus spends on these things. Maybe in a years time I might be able to mimic it. But that would be one game that I would have to focus solely upon in a years time. He does all this plus a list of other games that he has memorized move for move. That is on par with guitar playing and instruments. Pro level stuff here man.
Wow, this game is awesome, never knew about it until today, and it's taken such a drastic departure from the first one. It resembles Contra/Probotector. Awesome game.
Cool run. Nothing about this game feels like Batman though. I'm just curious if it was a reskin to raise sales in the west? Guess I've got some snooping to do. lol
This game is like a weird amalgamation of Fester's Quest, Contra and Ninja Gaiden. It wouldn't surprise me if it was a random Japanese game that they flung Batman into a la SMB2.
@ZCS Arcus is still tons more chill than Mike Matei... the swear words are replaced by annoy sounding “Stop it...” for one. But the skill level does lead to more calmness in hectic situations to Arcus’s benefit.
...and can we just take a moment are remember how fantastic these graphics are for a NES game?
Sunsoft games always look good. Their style of NES games are probably my favorite on the system. Definitely had some of the best music as well.

While we're reminiscing, can we remember how hard it was
@@Chicomite Arcus definitely makes this game look a lot more fun than it really is lol. This game isn't as smooth as he makes it appear
Better than fortnite and cold war
At least a few times per week, I mutter the words "Hooah... made it through-ah" to myself and think of Arcus and his Ninja Gaiden runs. Makes me happy.
Im the same way but with "clunk"

That 8bit music made the game so much better. I wish newer games got back into the old school 8bit soundtracks. Nice run!
The keyword is retro videogames. Almost mainstream at least within the age 29-45 demographic
Arcus makes speedrunning into a yoga treatment. I am more relaxed during his plays than I am at any time.. Ever.
Only place you can watch a full playthrough of a game while on the toilet. Keep up the great content
Very impressive speed run thanks for the content Mr. Arcus.
Whoever made the music should have won an Oscar. Especially with system limitations. 💯
@ZCS haha yeah. I get so confused given they give Emmy's to politicians now. 😃
that was a good clunk
thats what I say every bowel movement 🚽
Batman was always ahead of superman when it comes to video games.
And here I was sheltering in place wondering what to watch. And clunk.
WHAT a good speedrun jojo
@@drbuni that’s correct, Arcus produces very good quality.

That one gun goes, "blulululululululu..."
Guns talks
The music in this game is stellar

That was really common back then though. Some game developers were really bad with doing it.
Well, when you have some awesome assets to use, no need to not repeat them in other games. Back then, development was so different from today, they almost had to.
@@The_Bad_Guy. I know it was common.
@@garvensman Not really.
All of Sunsoft is reused assets. But the games... They were all awesome that I know of. Even Fester.. Yeah I said it.
Brings tears of joy to my eyes
1:21
It's cool around 6:00 how they drew the foreground elements as distorted/blurry to simulate motion blur.
This game is a masterpiece.
Return of the Jo-Joker ;)
audio programming here is spectacular
just as the graphics masterful work
ASMR speed runs, by Arcus :)

Really enjoy your content bro
Once again, all I hear is Festers Quest.
This game has fantastic music.
You deserve an Arcus treat
I love to see you play bro keep the humming going
I had this game when I was a kid omg so many memories
This guy is a legend.
The Advantage has some good covers of some of the tunes in this game
Good run. That 7-1 stage had me on edge but u got through
🔥🔥🐯🔥🔥 Superb
I'm always impressed by the look of this game.
I can yell this is a Sunsoft game from all the Festers questey type noises.
Looking forward sometime to another one of those massive marathon multi-hour runs where you beat like 23 games or whatever those are awesome
loved the music sync in stage 6-1
dang the music in this is phenomenal
I was so blown away by this game when it came out.
I used to play this on Sega. The music is awesome
that soundtrack is glorious
Buying a game for $60 back in 1991: "Up to 14 minutes of fun"
It takes you many hours to get to that point though
Most people never beat this game lol.
@John Syzlack no way. NES and SNES games were $60+. That’s why I stuck with SEGA after starting with Gameboy.
Ok zoomer.
@John Syzlack $40 to $50. Any NES game as low as $30 had to have been on sale.
Nicely done. That background looks like my hometown Arizona 🌵
great video and man this game has some great music
Wow, this game is awesome, never knew about it until today, and it's taken such a drastic departure from the first one. It resembles Contra/Probotector. Awesome game.
Merry Christmas Arcus! Just discovered your channel, and have really been enjoying it.
Damn, this game looks like early 16-bit title. Graphics are insane for a NES game...
When Batman met castlevania and megaman.
Increíbles gráficas, de los juegos que explotaron todo el poder de la consola en aquellos entonces. 🥰❤️❤️❤️❤️
Twisted Sister : I Wanna Rock
Arcus: I Wanna Clunk!
Muy buen juego, gracias por el recuerdo, tiempos aquellos, horas de juego en la tarde.
Loved this game. Great run!
Can't get enough of that Sunsoft bass slap
Great run Arc!
This guy is the Bob Ross of speedruns.
I've never played this game...love the music in it!
Mash, mash, mash and klunk! That’s your everyday phrase.
I wish this Batman had stick to the gameplay style of the first. That one was a master piece.
And Clunk
I remember playing and beating this when it came out.
Great times 👍
LOL, My maaaaannnn! Awesome vid Arcus!
GG Arcus .. Not the way i play games, but for speed run its very very very good .. Subscribed 👍👍
I always liked Return of the Joker waaay more than the first Batman NES game.
Watched u practicing this on twitch glad you finally mastered it
The graphics to this Nes game is amazing. :o
Could u please upload more videos on RUclips Arcus?? Thank u so much!!
Your such a peaceful guy. Your the cowboy Bob Ross of speed running. :)
I never realized how Mega Manny the music was in this game until now.
Cool run. Nothing about this game feels like Batman though. I'm just curious if it was a reskin to raise sales in the west? Guess I've got some snooping to do. lol
Eat that cottage cheese eat that cottage cheese!
His face as a cartoon. With the slogan mash mash mash. Big bucks. No doubt. You're welcome
Great job Arcus.
The game design is soooo good
10:51 music goes with button presses
When you had 1 flashing health my heart was pounding just watching. You were as cool as a cucumber playing. 😎
YOU ARE GOD
Impressive performance man!!! You should do Super Spy Hunter next.
man that tank has a lot of crew.
LOL I was thinking the same thing, those guys must have been packed in like a clown car.
I swear, this might be the best looking nes game of all time.. doesnt even look like an 8bit game..
Cool. The plot of this game
Makes absolutely no sense as a Batman story.
Amazing .. love this game but could never beat it
Just subbed, thanks for the speedrun
You Crushed it Bro! 😮
The MuSaC is bumpin!
I would love to see you do a speed run of Castlevania 4.
Yes indeed. Simon’s Quest too. Actually never saw him do anything other than NES.
@Hentavese That's cool. Haven't seen that.
Mash mash mash
You forgot to say “Smash...smash...aanndd klunk” still you’re a pro gamer
The arrow shot weapon is the only one I use throughout the game.
Did I just witness the first video of no “mash mash mash and klunk?”
There were several clunks and at least 3 instances of mash, mash, mash, just not in conjunction with each other
This game is like a weird amalgamation of Fester's Quest, Contra and Ninja Gaiden. It wouldn't surprise me if it was a random Japanese game that they flung Batman into a la SMB2.
That was a good Ooga-chaka Ooga-Ooga
Ooga-chaka Ooga-Ooga
Ooga-chaka Ooga-Ooga
Ooga-chaka Ooga-Ooga
Arcus and AVGN have polar opposite demeanour
@ZCS Arcus is still tons more chill than Mike Matei... the swear words are replaced by annoy sounding “Stop it...” for one. But the skill level does lead to more calmness in hectic situations to Arcus’s benefit.
Happy New Year! Maybe a burrito speed run to start off the year? 🌯
Very good looking NES game :-)
great games and great times!
0:46 that was more bzzzzt than sip
This game seems to move way faster than a normal nes game
Would love to see a snake rattle n roll run
I didn't knew Batman could summon thunders to power up to fight strong opponents. Lol.
Oh wow, I didn't know Batman could go super saiyan lol
Nice tunes
