In North America we call those relaxed, hang out and have a cuppa with a friend type videos Vlogs. I enjoy that format because you feel like you're getting to know the people making the videos. I can watch a hundred videos on how to propagate basil. What keeps me watching is the "fluff" of who a person is!

I love the relaxed time and the interaction it brings when I get to see you just enjoying your garden, and it is inspirering to see fellow gardeners and what they get up to in their garden. I usualy start my day with a mugg of coffee and my favorite you tube garden friends. Love the slower, longer format too, have never been a fan of quick and short stuff.

We live in Minnesota and garden in Zone 3B, so quite different from you, but am still drawn to your channel. I found you when I was looking for inspiration ahead of getting my first greenhouse. I stayed because you made me laugh and I love your style. I love making a cup of tea and hanging out with you both and seeing what you’re up to. I especially love when you’re sitting down together and laughing at your bulb purchases or just planning stuff out and chatting. Kate was obviously a rare appearance until fairly recently 😂 but when you phoned for help to reach something high up- the tall person company or whatever you called it and Kate came- I was helpless. Your recent video about how gardening can be boring encouraged me to go and get on with the boring stuff that just needs done even though it’s so cold outside. And wonky shonky has made it into my head as a more natural way of saying just get on with doing stuff and it doesn’t have to be perfect. Here’s to a happy gardening year Eli and Kate and not having to work so hard 😊

Eli, I came here a year or so ago and was charmed by you and Kate. I have watched almost everything and I have to admit that my favorite videos include both you and Kate. Teaching is great but your love of gardening and your witty dialog is my favorite part of my Sunday. I would never tell you what to film. I will be here if you just turn on the camera and read the newspaper silently and upload it without editing. I am here to watch someone who loves gardening and her sassy sidekick. I will say that I loved when you taught Kate how to plant and grow flowers. Her genuine reactions and thoughts mirrored my own when I started all my plants from seed last year. I prefer watching channels where I can actually relate to the gardener. Like your channel, Naturally JB and Jessie at Plot 37. You are experienced gardeners, and the 'how to' is informed and interesting. What bugs me is when a novice gardener moves from the human interest stuff (starting an allotment etc) and into the 'how to' and gives out glaringly inaccurate info due to their own inexperience. I think 'people are watching this: learn before you teach!' I love it when you show Kate stuff, and when Kate shows you woodworking skills. There you get the best of both worlds. I love the little reminders you sneak in about what you are doing and why. But mostly I love seeing your garden evolve, and seeing you and Kate working and relaxing in your garden. The change in emphasis is very welcome: enjoy what you are doing. We enjoy watching!

Good on you! I'm looking forward to it. I think this is a real danger of the internet for most of our hobbies, really. I exist primarily in the art hobby areas of the internet and as soon as you start doing every drawing to post it online you start drawing for the algorithm rather than for yourself (and the people seeing your art don't necessarily share your interests, which just pulls you even further from what you really want to be doing!). Here's a happier, fun 2024!

Bravo! I was worried for a moment there that you were going to stop making videos... I'm more than happy to see the fluff. I'm almost the complete opposite end of the scale with my videos... I don't care what the "algorithm" suggests etc... I'm just showing my garden at a given point in time (as much for my own records as anything else)... if people want to see that's great (I do enjoy watching others videos of just their gardens)... but it's more for me than anything else. I'm glad you are focusing more on looking after yourself/ves and look forward to more relaxed, personal videos going forward.
It is a great way to keep a record isn’t it? I love looking back on the summer videos from the dark dreary winter and remembering how full of colour the garden gets

I just spent the morning doing winter garden chores and cleaning up the mess that's somehow accumulated, and I am hoping to start peas, summer cabbage, and lettuce soon so I'm looking forward to Growing With Eli.

I came for the education on how to use my new greenhouse, then fell in love with Wednesday bloopers, now love how you’re evolving the garden giving me courage to do the same! Kate being more involved is lovely! ❤ Seeing the cats exploring the back yard made me start watching for escape routes so maybe some of my cats can join me in the gardens too. The show has got to fit in with you guys first and foremost as you have to prioritise work cos as you say the mortgage has to be paid. I think you’ve said before you are a technician at the college so It make sense that you want to produce a professional video. But What’s the point in doing it and spending all that time and effort on it if it doesn’t allow you both to live life as well? I love the channel - as it was, how it is now, and looking forward to see how it will be. If what you do now, is what you did in 2012, I would think it would become stale, humdrum, dare I even say, boring. You are not the same now as you were 12 years ago, so why should your channel. To be honest I subscribed because of your positive personality and humorous banter in the comment section. I really enjoyed sharing things about my own garden with you and this community. How to's are nice, I also enjoy them but mostly I'm here pretending the pele on the other side of my red fence are a nice Scottish couple and not the lowlifes that are there. (They have unscrewed a section of their fence paneling so they can come over and help themselves to our water, electricity, and anything ripe for eating. You might be asking how do they help themselves to our electricity. They bring an extension cord and plug it into the outdoor outlet. For the water they just turn it on. We speed leaving hoses out, but they just brought their own. We've now got (more)cameras set up outside to hopefully catch them better than we were being able to. If they were in a tight spot and had asked us I would have said yes or worked something out with them, but the keep denying it's them and they watch for us to get home then run over and "remove the evidence." It's much nicer to pretend I have nice neighbors on the other side of that red fence.😊

Been watching since you got your first hot bin (and all the learning experiences that you went through with it). Your 'how to' videos are ace but the thing I've enjoyed watching was how to garden. That includes how to grow a carrot but it also includes having the cup of tea, learning a new gadget/toy and sometimes learning a new technique to store garlic. Your channel is a how to channel just not the way some viewers want. Your whole channel is a "how to garden" and I love all your content not just those particular videos. Because of you showing me "how to garden" with up and downs, wins and challenges (you only lose if you give up) my first raised beds are going in this month. Front garden south facing and 110m2. Thank you, keep being you and keep doing the things the way you enjoy them most. I'm pretty sure you've mentioned, on multiple occasions, "it's your garden, do what you find most fun and interesting"
To be clear, the ONLY reason I subscribed to this channel was to get more of the Eli and Kate vibe. I bore easily of the over-hyped DIY power ranger stuff that makes up the vast majority of this scene. In an age where most things are becoming increasingly accelerated and depersonalized, THIS is the kind of content I want in my feed. Hell, I just spent my entire lunch hour at work watching your videos! I'm glad you've come to realize this - too many authentic youtubers become slaves to the algorithm and lose the thing that made them attractive in the first place. You're on the right track...the better track :)

I love to have my coffee and enjoy the Eli & Kate stuff/fluff. I enjoy watching your videos about your garden, have gotten some neat ideas with some or your gadgets, etc. I can watch other instructional videos when I'm looking for specific information. Otherwise, I just want to hang and relax. Totally takes the edge off of what's going on all around us.
I know all to well how that feels. It gets to the point to where you feel like you HAVE to do something, instead of enjoying what you're doing. And that kinda takes the fun out of things. Instead of a Hobby, it becomes another Job or Chore. Thats probably why I never really opened up my own channel to my techniques of gardening and my how to videos. It's not that I don't have the skills to do so, just I don't want it to take away from what I actually enjoy. I love watching the plants grow, I love spending time out in Gods creation helping to plant seeds that God will sprout and I will tend to. For me, it's a way for me to feel closer to God, My Dad and my Grandfathers and Grandmothers. Dad is no longer here nor or my grandparents and there's times I think of questions to ask on how to do things or just want to share things with them, but I can't. Thats ok, because I know they're watching down on me and probably evening helping me in some way or another. Point is, Do what makes you happy and try to stick with that. If it brings on more views or doesn't, it still made you Happy. And THAT's how it should be.
Think I found your chanel for instructions on making sour dough bread ages ago! I started watching the rest of your chanel and subscribed as a newish gardener (whose only horticultural talent was to kill most plants). Last year I had a massive harvest. It was much needed with the price of everything. Your instructional videos are fantastic, both for new gardeners and more experienced. It is also nice to see your beautiful garden and the projects you are both up to. Thank you 😊
Happy New year to you both! Great vlog as always I always find it difficult planning out where to grow once seeds have germinated, And of course what seed varieties to sow 🤔 there are so many! I’m big into flower sowing and have so many I started off in August for spring and summer, all covered up as it’s in the minus temperature in Berkshire and staying that way all week. Veg sowing and growing I got into last year, so keen to get going And sowing along with you too, on the flower seed sowing why not try Statice they are so beautiful and dry out so you can make a display for the house perhaps !

I love the relaxed time and the interaction it brings when I get to see you just enjoying your garden, and it is inspirering to see fellow gardeners and what they get up to in their garden. I usualy start my day with a mugg of coffee and my favorite you tube garden friends. Love the slower, longer format too, have never been a fan of quick and short stuff.
That’s the perfect way to start the day, in the warmer months I love a cuppa in the chillooterie watching the sun come up

When I was working nights last year, I loved the time before dawn, in the blue hour, to just sitt and listen to the silence, before the noice of people and cars.. 😇

I found you when I was looking for inspiration ahead of getting my first greenhouse. I stayed because you made me laugh and I love your style. I love making a cup of tea and hanging out with you both and seeing what you’re up to. I especially love when you’re sitting down together and laughing at your bulb purchases or just planning stuff out and chatting.
Kate was obviously a rare appearance until fairly recently 😂 but when you phoned for help to reach something high up- the tall person company or whatever you called it and Kate came- I was helpless.
Your recent video about how gardening can be boring encouraged me to go and get on with the boring stuff that just needs done even though it’s so cold outside. And wonky shonky has made it into my head as a more natural way of saying just get on with doing stuff and it doesn’t have to be perfect. Here’s to a happy gardening year Eli and Kate and not having to work so hard 😊

Eli, I came here a year or so ago and was charmed by you and Kate. I have watched almost everything and I have to admit that my favorite videos include both you and Kate. Teaching is great but your love of gardening and your witty dialog is my favorite part of my Sunday. I would never tell you what to film. I will be here if you just turn on the camera and read the newspaper silently and upload it without editing. I am here to watch someone who loves gardening and her sassy sidekick. I will say that I loved when you taught Kate how to plant and grow flowers. Her genuine reactions and thoughts mirrored my own when I started all my plants from seed last year. It was fun and refreshing and I loved her spade. Big Hugs and can’t wait for more of you this year

I prefer watching channels where I can actually relate to the gardener. Like your channel, Naturally JB and Jessie at Plot 37. You are experienced gardeners, and the 'how to' is informed and interesting. What bugs me is when a novice gardener moves from the human interest stuff (starting an allotment etc) and into the 'how to' and gives out glaringly inaccurate info due to their own inexperience. I think 'people are watching this: learn before you teach!'
I love it when you show Kate stuff, and when Kate shows you woodworking skills. There you get the best of both worlds. I love the little reminders you sneak in about what you are doing and why. But mostly I love seeing your garden evolve, and seeing you and Kate working and relaxing in your garden. The change in emphasis is very welcome: enjoy what you are doing. We enjoy watching!

Good on you! I'm looking forward to it. I think this is a real danger of the internet for most of our hobbies, really. I exist primarily in the art hobby areas of the internet and as soon as you start doing every drawing to post it online you start drawing for the algorithm rather than for yourself (and the people seeing your art don't necessarily share your interests, which just pulls you even further from what you really want to be doing!). Here's a happier, fun 2024!

Bravo! I was worried for a moment there that you were going to stop making videos... I'm more than happy to see the fluff. I'm almost the complete opposite end of the scale with my videos... I don't care what the "algorithm" suggests etc... I'm just showing my garden at a given point in time (as much for my own records as anything else)... if people want to see that's great (I do enjoy watching others videos of just their gardens)... but it's more for me than anything else. I'm glad you are focusing more on looking after yourself/ves and look forward to more relaxed, personal videos going forward.

I came for the education on how to use my new greenhouse, then fell in love with Wednesday bloopers, now love how you’re evolving the garden giving me courage to do the same! Kate being more involved is lovely! ❤ Seeing the cats exploring the back yard made me start watching for escape routes so maybe some of my cats can join me in the gardens too. The show has got to fit in with you guys first and foremost as you have to prioritise work cos as you say the mortgage has to be paid. I think you’ve said before you are a technician at the college so It make sense that you want to produce a professional video. But What’s the point in doing it and spending all that time and effort on it if it doesn’t allow you both to live life as well? I’ve learned so much from you guys but also I’ve got to know a little bit about you two along the way. It is like having a cuppa with an old friend watching you. I love the channel - as it was, how it is now, and looking forward to see how it will be. If what you do now, is what you did in 2012, I would think it would become stale, humdrum, dare I even say, boring. You are not the same now as you were 12 years ago, so why should your channel. You grew, matured, evolved … and you’ve taken your followers along with as they also matured, changed and evolved too. Yeah, change can be scary, but oh boy, it can also be so much fun. So here’s to seeing where you take us as we begin 2024, and may you forever keep that Kate and Eli sparkle.

To be honest I subscribed because of your positive personality and humorous banter in the comment section. I really enjoyed sharing things about my own garden with you and this community. How to's are nice, I also enjoy them but mostly I'm here pretending the pele on the other side of my red fence are a nice Scottish couple and not the lowlifes that are there. (They have unscrewed a section of their fence paneling so they can come over and help themselves to our water, electricity, and anything ripe for eating.
You might be asking how do they help themselves to our electricity. They bring an extension cord and plug it into the outdoor outlet. For the water they just turn it on. We speed leaving hoses out, but they just brought their own. We've now got (more)cameras set up outside to hopefully catch them better than we were being able to.
If they were in a tight spot and had asked us I would have said yes or worked something out with them, but the keep denying it's them and they watch for us to get home then run over and "remove the evidence."
It's much nicer to pretend I have nice neighbors on the other side of that red fence.😊

Been watching since you got your first hot bin (and all the learning experiences that you went through with it).
Your 'how to' videos are ace but the thing I've enjoyed watching was how to garden.
That includes how to grow a carrot but it also includes having the cup of tea, learning a new gadget/toy and sometimes learning a new technique to store garlic.
Your channel is a how to channel just not the way some viewers want. Your whole channel is a "how to garden" and I love all your content not just those particular videos.
Because of you showing me "how to garden" with up and downs, wins and challenges (you only lose if you give up) my first raised beds are going in this month. Front garden south facing and 110m2.

To be clear, the ONLY reason I subscribed to this channel was to get more of the Eli and Kate vibe. I bore easily of the over-hyped DIY power ranger stuff that makes up the vast majority of this scene. In an age where most things are becoming increasingly accelerated and depersonalized, THIS is the kind of content I want in my feed. Hell, I just spent my entire lunch hour at work watching your videos!

I love to have my coffee and enjoy the Eli & Kate stuff/fluff. I enjoy watching your videos about your garden, have gotten some neat ideas with some or your gadgets, etc. I can watch other instructional videos when I'm looking for specific information. Otherwise, I just want to hang and relax. Totally takes the edge off of what's going on all around us.
I know all to well how that feels. It gets to the point to where you feel like you HAVE to do something, instead of enjoying what you're doing. And that kinda takes the fun out of things. Instead of a Hobby, it becomes another Job or Chore.
Thats probably why I never really opened up my own channel to my techniques of gardening and my how to videos. It's not that I don't have the skills to do so, just I don't want it to take away from what I actually enjoy. I love watching the plants grow, I love spending time out in Gods creation helping to plant seeds that God will sprout and I will tend to. For me, it's a way for me to feel closer to God, My Dad and my Grandfathers and Grandmothers.
Dad is no longer here nor or my grandparents and there's times I think of questions to ask on how to do things or just want to share things with them, but I can't. Thats ok, because I know they're watching down on me and probably evening helping me in some way or another.
Point is, Do what makes you happy and try to stick with that. If it brings on more views or doesn't, it still made you Happy. And THAT's how it should be.

Think I found your chanel for instructions on making sour dough bread ages ago! I started watching the rest of your chanel and subscribed as a newish gardener (whose only horticultural talent was to kill most plants). Last year I had a massive harvest. It was much needed with the price of everything. Your instructional videos are fantastic, both for new gardeners and more experienced. It is also nice to see your beautiful garden and the projects you are both up to. Thank you 😊

I always find it difficult planning out where to grow once seeds have germinated,
And of course what seed varieties to sow 🤔 there are so many! I’m big into flower sowing and have so many I started off in August for spring and summer, all covered up as it’s in the minus temperature in Berkshire and staying that way all week. Veg sowing and growing I got into last year, so keen to get going
And sowing along with you too, on the flower seed sowing why not try Statice they are so beautiful and dry out so you can make a display for the house perhaps !
