Where do you source your wood from? I'm in the LA/SM area, and I'd love to get my hand on some of the big chunks of walnut that you've displayed in your various spoon carving videos.

Max, getting the wood is half the battle! In the LA area, Valencia Lumber has a great supply but they require you buy the whole piece, no matter how long it is and how crappy one end my be due to checking or bad edges so when you consider their prices you need to consider all the board feet you will need to pay for that you cant use or don't need. Ganahl (Pasadena and Anaheim) Has great selection (Pasadena carries much less variety and quantity of Hardwood than Anaheim) and will allow you to purchase part of a piece if you don't need it all and can leave at least 48 inches. Also, Ganahl will cut sheet goods for you if you need something smaller than 4ft by 8ft in order to transport it. Then there is Bohnhoff lumber, great selection of rough in many dimensions of just about everything and they will cut sheet goods for you. They will also finish rough lumber as you want it for an extra fee (and a little time) and the sell F4S lumber too. Their prices are usually competitive and leave a little room to have the rough lumber finished as you want it. But if you can mill your own, it's even better. But don't overlook any lumber yard that sells hardwoods in the area. Search the web for hardwoods and see what's in your area. Valencia Lumber is, for instance, not in Valencia but Van Nuys so, check addresses and call if you have questions. Ask about moisture content where you buy so you know what you are working with, take a tape measure and even a small block plane to check the face of rough lumber (if the yard allows it) and spend some time learning the mysterious math of measuring board feet in both rough and finished lumber so you know how much you are spending before you are shocked with a total at the payout,

Beautiful, how much did the bench weigh, roughly?
