Professional commercial painter here , don’t walk with the paint , go an armspan and come back then move onto the other section , comes out slicker
Okay thank you, will definitely try that
Good tip, thank you
Hello just got an aftermarket bumper cover for 2010 camary Le. Manufacturer says primered. So skip the primer and start with a few light coats of adhesion promoter? I know nothing about paint. Thank you Roy
This comment is way too under-rated! I've learned the hard way but this is an absolutely priceless piece of advice. That and starting and ending the spray stroke before and then off the part you're painting, never starting directly on the piece you're painting. Ie start spraying a couple inches to the left of the bumper and finish your spray am inch or so off to keep the spray nice and uniform.
@@royjones9852 Get a grey scotch Brite pad and scuff it up then use an 800 then 1500 sandpaper and wet sand that primer down to smooth it all out. Then use adhesion promoter followed by paint and clear coat and make sure to wait the recommended times between coats. I'd wait 24 hours before clear coating also but that's just me.
You can use cheap white primer before applying the relatively expensive base coat over a dark primer to cut down the the required coats needed to cover over grey primer.
Yea cheap primer now there's a great tip, cheap-out on the primer so it can all flake fall off in no time! What a great tip!
Yup. Color matching primer would make the base coat go down easier. But not much lost on this guy since he is using $10 DupliColor can. :D
That's an amazing job. Can you please share the details like how many cans of primer, base coat and clear coat were used and also how many ml.
It's somewhat recommended to paint indoors, only to mitigate dirt and debris from blowing and falling onto the paint. For other comments, from experience, base coats usually stop being tacky after 20-30 minutes, and clear coats usually harden after 45 minutes to an our unless with a breeze or wind, which will probably bring it down to 30 minutes.. I think a rule of 3s is good to start with. 3 coats of paint, 3 coats of clear coat. You need to wait for your paint to dry before sanding as it may still be mushy, and any grit will imbed easier into soft paint. I think having your piece elevated to around chest-height, or having the top of it at just under your chin makes it easier to paint, find a way to hang the piece with metal coat hangers from spots that won't be seen.
What if you get dirt in the clear coat? How do I bluff and sand the bumper cover? I painted mine outside too with my gun and professional paint but it got dirt in it. 😢
@@jdmchickkustomz9417 you'll have to sand it down over a large area after it hardens and respray. Very frustrating. You might have luck with lacquer thinner in a spray gun. You'll need to be quick because it will make the paint coat mushy. The only direct route is sanding that spot down and using Bondo and respraying with primer, paint coat, clear coat and fine-grit rubbing compound to smooth out the layering.
@@TheOnlyInformant sand with what grit?
@@jdmchickkustomz9417 you gotta remove a lot of material, might as well make quick work of it. Maybe 500 grit
All clear finishes will have some type of orange peel. I can see it on his finish. But i believe you're supposed to install the bumper and wait a week or so. Then you can wet sand with 2000 or 3000 grit and then buff it with buffing compound.
Thats correct
Make sure to shake the hell out of the 2k gloss can and the clear coat coming out the can will be amazing
I sit all my spray cans in a bucket of hot water then I shake the s outta them lol
Looks great for an outdoors painting. Great work! Going to give this a try with melbourne red on an F30 MTech bumper. 🤞
How did it go
im painting my f10 550i imperial blue mtech bumper tomorrow !

great job,now it gives me an idea how to paint my bumper.
I am gonna paint a front lip and side skirts for my rsx, this helped a lot thanks man!
This was handy painting my grille on my 99 Burban. Thanks for the video.
No problem
Fantastic job, what a difference once all completed, has helped me with my own spray painting on my rear bumper and boot lid, from Edward Scott in Queensland, Australia.
BUT, why you did not apply the Primer after the adhesive promotor??????????
Bomb results 👍
Thanks man. You made that easy to learn and do. Great work!
This was absolutely awesome, just wish you told how long you waited after every coating, and what was the watering step you were doing such as if it were to clean it
15-30 mins. Says on most cans. You want it tacky still
Does this last like if it were originally painted like car wash and winter like that?
You made this look so easy
I\'m not sure but ,if anyone else needs to find out about car spray painting tips try Sovallo Auto Painting Fixer (just google it ) ? Ive heard some interesting things about it and my work buddy got great success with it.
Amazing man. 👍👍👍
@@darkangelofdeath7367 thanks
This bumper looks a lot better painted. How long would you say a bumper painted and clear coated with cans would last?
Good job. Cheaper then a shop same results.
I will definitely go this route. Good video bro.
I put cans in hot water before painting to increase pressure and obviously shake well.
Nice video I tried this today but with diamond graphite
Nice 👍 Glad it helped
@@n54anaya79 quick question how long do you wait to put it on the car after you’re done?
@@goldeng35 i just let it dry overnight
Would this work if I’m using red paint ?
Recommend to sand down first then apply plastic adhesive then primer then sand down lightly then add the main color then clear coat
Nice, good job, I will be doing mine indoors tho with spray guns not cans. But I will be using cans for the adhesion promoter ;) thanks, good job!
I just got a bumper not to long ago im planing on painting it myself, this video really motivates me to do it myself instead of paying $600-$1000k... Id like to see an update on that bumper if possible bro
Yeah go for it, this was done for my friends car. He sold it earlier this year but the bumper was still looking really good
Thanks for the video! I'm going to plastic weld a hole in my bumper and respray and hope it turns out like this haha
When I spray paint outside the wind seems to blow the paint away even when it isn't that windy, so I try to paint in my garage.
How many cans of each product did you need? Thanks
What if the part I got doesn’t have primer? Should I sand it and then prime it or just go for the primer?
You should start off the bumper and finish past the bumper and hold your can more level
@Donnie V. gives you a more even coat and doesn’t leave streaks and runs in the paint
Shouldnt you scuff the bumper down first thing. And then wipe it down with a tack cloth and acetone? The mold process has a release agent. Really bad for paint jobs.
Then definitely a primer. Will help the paint adhere better and lay your coats out much better. Hope helps
I was thinking the same thing. If uu don’t you will have flaws within the spray
Nah you should be good 😌 some companies actually tell you don’t have to
Supposedly letting it hang out in the sun is good enough to let it dry out.
Don't use acetone it will soak into raw plastic!...use 91% alcohol its water based
It's a pre primed bumper, no need to worry about mold release.
How long should you wait before wet sanding?
Very informative thanks, how many cans of primer, paint and gloss needed for a full plastic bumper
I am about to do the same thing on my bumper, has it held up well ?????
Looks great! You didn't mention any safety gear. $20 for respirator (Highly Recommended to wear one) Goggles and Tyvek Suit $20 for both (For a small job like this these are optional, but it is better to be safe!)
Also no mention about a wax and grease remover (Prep Solvent) wipe down before anything. If you're not using a sealer then forget about using it because some have very long flash times. I've made some videos to clarify these subjects.
Looks like this guy was using a shirt as mask. I'm like dude, your lungs are worth a $20 respirator and your eyes are worth $5 goggle.
Great job! Did you really use 2K gloss on 1K color without any chemical reactions?
@@TheBaneChannel yes, i always do it and never have any issues
Did this, but failed. Forgot to dand and used a cheap clear coat then 2k. Wish I saw it earlier, like the simple steps you made for it.
Thank you 😊😃😀😃😃😀 I hope my is the same. First time trying it. 🤣😂😂😂😂😂
What if you get dirt in the clearcoat? How do I sand n buff plastic?
This is a good video. How many cans of paint did you need? How many cans of clearcoat? Seems like only 1 coat of adhesion promoter?
So you dont have to sanddown the old paint?
Good job bro I love it you use very short way please where I may get the exactly sprey ?
The 2k spray paint i found it on amazon. I’ll add the link in a few
@@n54anaya79 thanks so much for your help
3 coats of that clear in a can is the equitant to 1 coat of clear coat out of a gallon I would have at least put 2 full cans of clear on that bumper. protect from rock chips a lot more
Nice job. So u bypassed scuffing and sanding because it came pre primed?
I’m painting a bumper that’s pre primed. So would just cleaning it , then laying adhesion promoter, base and clear be correct?
I have a prime bumper that I need to paint jet black, but they say sand it with 800grit or higher to get it prep, so isn't it prep already to add on the adhersion promoter, thank you sir???
I always paint in flip flops myself
How do you handle little bubbles?
Nice results 👌
But, you have painted the grilles ! You should have masked them... But, overall, good job.
How many layers of the adhesion promoter did you do? And how long should you wait after that before the color coat?
2 layers of adhesion promoter is fine. Wait an hour before using your base coat and then 10 minutes between 3-5 coats of base. I'd wait 24 hours before clear coating if possible and start with a lighter coat with 10 minute intervals going a little heavier each time. Then wait a hood 24 hours after that before wet sanding with say 1500,2000,2500 grit then buffing and finally polishing if you really wanna do it right.
@@tonyg-2jz82 Tony any advice on how to do it when changing the colour of the bumper. My car is blue/navy and new bumper and side skirts came from red car. It is a Modulo Voltage kit cant buy it new anymore so had to go for second hand, in great condition though no cracks nothing broken even red paint/lacquer is perfect on it. Any advice?
Thanks
you are asking for (health) trouble using 2k clear with no respiratory gear however, its a drawback of the benefits of a 2k clear coat
eric mcnamara yeah you should always use a respirator, i was using a separate t shirt to cover myself alittle
Great job
Thank you
Good all around vid....helped a lot thanks!
How cans of the base and clear di u use?
Looks good.
How many cans of paint does it take to repaint a bumper? Will a 12oz can of paint be enough?
Just curious. Why not a primer after the adhesion coat and how many cans of color did this take? Awesome vid. Thanks!
Because the bumper was already “primered” from the manufacturer. I believe the adhesion just lets the paint stick better.
Thanks for video 🙏🏻I need do my car too so for after market plastic bumper cover before apply primer ,dont u need sand it ? Just curious because I need help
crabbymrd Lee yeah it’s a good idea to scuff it down with a scuff pad
DIY Lifestyle thanks 👌
Did it stick?
Could that primer be used with different types of spray paints
Hi bro you dont need use primer before paint ?
hey tony G 2jz below, or get a piece of 220 grit move to a 442 then a 680 to a 681 then for kicks use a 772 and a 801 then just run the puppy walking to a 999 then a 5000K finish grit sand paper, professiuonal talker here I know what to do................................ The trick is to get used sand for the sanding cloth then the shit is cheaper. sometimes I make ky own sand. Start with Silica and go from there............

How many cans of paint did you use ?
What’s the process if going red to black?
how many cans did you use?
One or two would be fine
@@CK-13 did you try it on a bumper or something like that .. cuz I think it is not enough for the coats lol haven’t tried it but just asking
Nice video so if I have a primed bumper do I still gotta use primer spray on a plastic bumper before I spray paint it black then clear coat it?
Kevin 215 Hey thanks, no if it’s already primed don’t prime it. Just wipe it down good & start painting it
DIY Lifestyle even if I’m doing black paint ? I’m using lacquer clear gloss as well
Kevin 215 yeah, so if it’s primed already just spray the black paint u have. Should be easier actually cause black covers faster & then just spray the clear
DIY Lifestyle thanks fam gonna attempt this now since I gotta better understanding 👌🏼
Nice paint job.
How many cans of white and clear coat you use to finish the job?
2 or 3 cans of white and 1 clearcoat
Nice job!
Vinyl wrap or spray ?
How many cans of white did you use
How do you know if your bumper is already primerd? I just ordered a brand new factory bumper for my e46 so I want to be safe before I proceed!
Cuddii it should state it on the place that you got it from, if not it’ll usually be a grayish color if it’s been primered and it’ll feel really smooth
@@n54anaya79 after you spray painted it, how long did you wait to wet it down and wet sand it?
How many cans of color and clear coat?
How long do we need to wait before applying the clear coat? And is washing it with water necessary?
Raihan Iqbal i would say atleast half an hour and no it’s not necessary
Hi how many cans of base color did you use? And what size in oz can?
They were small cans forgot the OZ but i used 3
In your other video on painting a g35 bumper. If my bumper has already got color on it can I color over it or do I need to sand the color ?
sand or the paint will chip
Sand and use primer
How many cans of paint did you go through?
He said the following on another question
2 cans of 12 oz and one can of clear coat
The body shop owners disliked this video.
Do I have to use adhesion promotor on the primed plastic if it's already factory primed
amcon build no not necessarily
So i can skip step one if its already primed black from the factory?
amcon build i would clean whole part with alcohol before spraying paint tho
Daniel Guzman clean it with alcohol, then wash it and dry it then start painting?
Jason Turton just clean it with alcohol
Why does every other tutorial video on RUclips have this ridiculously loud music like it's some kind of 360 no scope montage from CoD. Yet another informative video I have to mute
Used all three cans of each?
Does the paint come off easily on Plastic compared to ABS??
Plastic is a generic term that incudes ABS and other types.
What were the prices of all the cans ?
Whats the second step? Is that the sort of gloss to make it shine?
Actually, the 1st is a primer. They use primer to prevent the bumper from rusting and then 2nd is the original color code from the factory.. The 3rd is clear coat it is like a protector for the color
Hey bro can you link me or let me know what paint and clear you used?
EuphoricVisions USC SprayMax 2K Glamour High Gloss Aerosol Clear www.amazon.com/dp/B0082LJMC6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_FPR6CbH16PTT7
For the base coat, you can use whatever. I would recommend using rust-oleum. It’s a good brand
DIY Lifestyle thanks, I was asking because I also have a g35, I'm attempting to paint the bumper and fender, it's also white. These results look great!
Do I use the adhesion promoter before I prime my bumber or do I prime first and then use the adhesion promoter
Alfredo Magana adhesion promoter first
What Nissan color is that? Need that
great job
any updates on how it's holding up? any flakes or cracks? also, how many cans of each did you end up using?
I’m curious how many cans it takes myself. I’m hoping one is enough.
For that size bumper I get at least two cans of paint and could probably get by with just one canned of clear
How do u reduce, eliminate the orange peel look
Wet sand and buff after a week
Is that an infiniti bumper?
did not even sand it before paint. I know some people say that the factory primer is ok to paint over it but i been doing this for over 17 years this paint will peel off with in 1 year. I know its been 5 years since video is uploaded let me know how it came out. 😑 sanding the primer will get you a so much smoother finish also
It’s cool, point is to do it yourself as an amateur & the 2k clear did it a good job for a backyard job.
@@n54anaya79 For sure defiantly looked flat nice job I have done a couple motorcycles with spray clear but I used 1 can per piece to make sure I had enough clear to went sand and buff

Do you know from where we can buy these paintings stuff?
Any auto parts store.
Was that one can of paint for the colour?
I used 2 of them
I just need the sand and primer part
Hey what if you getting the little bubbles what then? Thanks
Chello Barnes you got them after spraying on the clearcoat?
I saw your comment that it takes 2-3 cans depending on the color. Really for clarity, does that mean 2-3 cans for the base paint? How many cans do you need of clear coat? Etc
Thank you
playray91 yes, 2-3 cans if you’re using the dupli color touch up paint since they are 8oz. If you are using another brand they will most likely be 12oz so you’ll only need 2. For the clearcoat 1 can will be enough
That’s my moms table your painting on
