So why can't they get ellie right smh
You forgot where Joel walks in to the building and finds the bodies being bled out, that was pretty much identical
cant show that on yt maybe
@@pickle.786 it’s apart of the game.
@@BluM7861 He means it might violate youtube's community guidelines. Demonetization.
demmm that so twisted
whose body that they eat? their own people? or outside of their group?
Troy Baker was excellent in this episode. RIP original Joel.
That is not Tory baker that is perdopascal
But Tory baker is good I loved him
rip joel .... again
Neil drunkmann did the right thing to include the original character joel in last of us video game
bro died twice
I love the way Nolan North played David in the game, his delivery is too good and the voice he does for the role fits so well, and the little laughs he does sometimes make you want to punch him even more. And there are no words for how great Ashley is as Ellie, Bella did good too, definitely her best episode so far.
Holy shit I had no idea Nolan North was David in the game! Naaaaate!!
@@aaandSCENE That was my reaction when I found out too! He is too good. The best part is that he also plays one of the guys Joel tortures in the interrogation scene, the one in the chair at 7:18
About Bella, I disagree.
I thought Bella's best performance was the last episode
Can’t believe ppl saying that bella wasn’t good man i thought that she was amazing and better than the game
I like that in the show after killing the preacher she's just mumbling, no actual words because that's how it is in real life. After a super traumatic experience people go into shock and kinda just shake and mumble.
It's also realistic that kids fumble and struggle to find words in times of stress
Bella Ramsey was amazing in this episode. The fact that it took her seconds to finally come to, and see that it's Joel, just an amazing and heart-breaking performance.
Exactly this. The scene in the game where Henry commits suicide, Ellie calmly says "oh my god", Bella on the other hand reacts in a much more realistic way that you would expect a 14 Yr old to.
@@AlexTommo yup game ellie is corny.
Wow seems like wonderful entertainment. Killing. Mumbling. Just can't miss this!
One thing I do like that the show changed is David telling a Ellie that she has a "violent heart." In the game he just says, "You have heart." But by saying, you have a "violent heart." Game recognizes game. He sees the potential violence in her because he himself is a violent man.
It's fitting because she has to step up and be violent in order to survive. She was facing a monster in David who also has a "violent heart." And as the saying goes: "In order to defeat a monster, you have to become a monster."
Foreshadows sequel too
I actually really hate this change, they’ve added a lot of things in the show to make Ellie seem more violent then she was in the games, when in reality she’s just reacting to the environment around her.
@@jdominoes6191 Same. Hate these little tweaks that set her up for the revenge filled sequel.
@@laserbeamlightning The sequel is TRASH
@@greatestnitemare6626 I really dislike what they make her in the sequel. She really didn’t feel like the same character whatsoever and the plot lost me
I didn't even play the game but I was expecting Joel to reach ellie right after she killed David, I feel like him partially witnessing that moment was so impactful because he can see how much she had to go through without him and doesn't detract from the fact that she did get through it on her own
Edit: I understand it was done because Joel getting through the locked door was unrealistic and they wanted Ellie to be wholly independent, what I said in a follow up comment is that even if he realized she was in a really messed up dangerous situation, potential sexual assault is maybe something he wouldn’t have jumped to without a visual. Not to argue for the show Vs the game, I’ve watched both (gameplay) and consider both experiences I thoroughly enjoyed
Exactly
Perfect. He needed to she what see went through to understand that she would never need to suffer again.
true, but she can accidently stab joel (she even punch joel when he showed up imagine if there is knife in her hand) and this joel is still hurt while joel in game is unrealisticly strong for someone that have a hole in their stomach
She was swinging the machete in the game when Joel interrupts her too, and he doesn't get hurt. I don't understand what the point is of arguing specifics of a fictional scenario that can easily be solved by the writers... not making ellie stab Joel with the butcher knife lmao
@@ILikeExoticStuff he still understood what she went through, he saw the dead skinned bodies, and then saw her bloody, shaken, and crying
I really think they change the scene at the end for a reason . However I liked the scene more in the game but generally the episode was amazing. Honestly I even cried more when Ellie put her hand in Joel’s chest and fall asleep and how Joel’s head twirled to Ellie . That was the first scene that I saw and felt like they are father and daughter .
He had no keys to get it
They changed it because of safety concerns, or so they claim.
yeah him stopping her in the middle of it watching what she had to do is a way better scene then her already walking out of the building and him not really knowing what happen
They explained in the BTS at the end of the episode that the trope was for Joel to swoop in and save Ellie at the last moment and they wanted no part of that, in the game and now in the show. I think they thought is was more impactful to have Ellie walk out on her own, rather than hand-in-hand with Joel, like even though she killed David, if Joel wasn't there to make her stop she might just stayed in there and kept beating him and burned to death. I agree, I was waiting for Joel to appear and pull her off of David, and was surprised that he was just walking up and caught her. But he knows exactly what she did and what happened in that restaurant.
Sorry for the long comment, don't really have anyone to discuss the show with.🤷
Game was better because Joel witnesses Ellie doing this
Bella did amazing with the freak out scene at the end, I honestly think part of the reason they changed that was because she played it so well that they didn't want to interrupt it with Joel coming in to grab her. Personally I think that made it even more touching in the game, Joel seeing Ellie in that primal panicked state probably broke his heart even more. The show did it good too, but I don't really get why they decided to change this little detail. Why change a scene when it is basically perfect?
Maybe cuz she’s having a mental breakdown, swinging a butchers knife in a locked burning building?
Listen to the podcast, they give an explanation why they had to change it in the show
I totally agree with you
that scene is very touching when Joel came to stop Ellie
btw im a fan and also a film director. I'm really open to see anything new but still don't understand why they replaced this part with something softer
i was waiting for Joel to appear at that scene
@@kd1306 The same thing happened in the game and no one was complaining about it not making sense. I doubt people would have been like "omg she should have stabbed him".
@@BenGTheSun that’s the game tho Neil and Craig wanted to take it in a sensible logical point of view. The emotional impact is not any different it’s still there.
In the show, like the game, I was expecting Joel to come in while she was hacking at David. Nope she just kept going.
They should have kept that bit the same as in the game imo, with the same music. That song adds a lot to that scene. And also the bit after the “Oh, Baby girl” where they are talking but you can’t hear what they are saying because it is a private conversation between the characters and you just hear the music, little details like that make the scene in the game so good.
@@mt6897 Y E S!
@@mt6897 yes it’s such a shame Joel didn’t teleport inside a locked building that’s burning. Such a shame he didn’t hug ellie and be scared for her safety inside a burning building🥲 what a shame. Such a miss from the show🖕
@@Julian_14 Teleport? You literally play as Joel and they show you how he gets there and finds her in the game, and yeah how bad that he first takes a few seconds more to comfort her and makes sure she is mentally okay to go after the horrible thing that he witness her having to do.
Cry more, loser.
@@Julian_14 yes that’s exactly what he should’ve done. It would’ve made the scene better 🤡
We have to commend Bella Ramsey's superb acting. She's fearless when fighting, scared when crying, and emotional with the people she cares for.
The fact that she showed more fear in the show than in the game says it all!
is everyone on crack watching this you can clearly hear bella butchering those lines that Ashley Johnson delivered PERFECTLY
An interesting change I think is that when Joel finds and calms Ellie down, in the game he's the one that pulls Ellie into a hug. In the show it's Ellie that embraces Joel first. Both moves tell different stories which are both true: Game is about Joel finally lowering his walls and allowing himself to comfort and love this child that so desperately needs it. Show is about Ellie being so relieved to have the only person back that truly cares about her.
I love that they dropped the line "she's his little pet now" during the torture scene. They didn't give this piece of information about his personality too early for the viewers. Good call.
But it worked in the interrogation scene to make Joel even more furious and desperate to find Ellie, leading to a heightened sense of brutality and violence while torturing David's men.
the player had that information way before the interrogation scene
People saying the game was better or TV show is better, both are great! They are different mediums, both are amazing!
based
W
I agree
its hard for long time fans of the game to see that scene changed, but I do think that objectively this is the correct take
Thank you!!!!
It’s cool to see Troy Baker playing as James here. In the game, James was played by Reuben Langdon who everyone knows as the voice actor for Dante in Devil May Cry 3, 4, and 5.
No fuckin wayyyyyyyyy
Far cry 4 pagan min
The game scene was still one if the most emotional scenes in any game. I’ve ever seen.
The show did it good. Don’t get me wrong. But the music. Joel saying baby girl, and Ellie saying Joel.
Then afterwards when the music is playing you can see Joel say I’m never leaving you alone again.
When Ellie says “Joel” pulls at the heart.
i guess everyone has their own opinion i dont think i would put this in my top 10 emotional games, it would be number 11 after Red Dead 2s horse death, i dont know why but that got me so much more than this game - to be honest joels death got me way more as well
@@theaces3697 a horse man really
A HORSE HAHAHAAHAH! You must be trolling
My coworkers haven’t seen the show so I playing dumb with the story. They are convinced she gonna make it to the hospital and they’re going to just take samples of her blood.
For those who enjoyed the show but weren't involved in the game. It was a piece of art. Ellie caring for Joel while he recovers and going completely insane at the end shows character development. This episode was phenomenal in every way and was exactly what it should have been. loved it
I like how Ellie in the show confronts them with a bolt action rifle instead of a bow and arrow.
They should've kept the bow and arrow
@@mrf9893 I agree and what to expect drama series and video game to be similar but gotta have a little difference! That was the difference and joel coming to ellie outside instead in the burning house
@@mrf9893 nah much more believable to drop your weapon when you have a gun pointed at you than a bow and arrow
@@mrf9893 for a hungry girl its not possible to hold a arrow pulled back for so long it requires a lot of strength. rifle makes more sense. in the game she didnt ask them disarm themselves. that is why its a game and this is a show closer to reality.
@@mrf9893nah a girl with a bow is not realistic when trying to threaten two dudes with rifles. It’s fine in a game cause bows are op in games. But a bow that a girl of that size could pull back and hold that isn’t a compound bow is not gonna scare anyone to listen to them 😂.
It makes more sense imo for IRL. And it still leaves another part of the story that remains just for the game. I like having those.
Calling Ellie “baby girl” is the crucial moment in their relationships. It’s when we realise that he again feels the same attachment to someone as he did to his daughter. This moment defines his final decision at the end of the story.
Yeah the first time where you see there's some sort of relationship in the game is after they met up with Tommy and they had that fight and he tells Tommy to Ellie's horse and he will keep the one he's sitting on and he tells Ellie to get up on his horse which was a great moment. Obviously the show changed that moment which was sad but also Ellie asking him "do you give a shit about me or not?" where he answered "of course I do" came a little out of nowhere.
But yes the baby girl truly confirmed it for both the game and the tv show. I just think cute interactions they had and stuff slowly saw that their relationship was getting better and better whereas the baby girl truly confirmed what Joel really felt about her. I think the show putting that question in there was not a good idea.
This episode was a 10/10 for me, even the the changes from the game, it was beautiful and sent me into a rollercoaster of emotions 🤌🏻💯😭
I loved David death scene in the show, but it was better in the game with the song "all gone : reunion"
It also mirrors the death of Sarah. The little trill during Sarah’s death and Ellie’s survival in the game is very similar. Shows the value of Sarah/Ellie to Joel. At 13:41
Yes the game did it better
Yeah I completely forgot that I was looking forward the hearing that music as this part was happening. I think I slightly prefer the game purely cause of the music but also it’s something different.
@@bross7801 i agree
my major gripes with that scene. unnoticeable bg soundtrack. they should have been use the game ost to elevate an emotional scene
how do you make these videos so quickly??? it JUST released an hour ago! hahaha
I love how instead of having Joel stop Ellie like in the game, the TV series just let Ellie go ALL OUT. Almost tripple the number of chop chop on David. Rest in pieces David.
Boooo
chop chop 🤣🤣
I don't like it at all. It was much more impactful in the game.
How did Ellie phrase it, tiny little pieces?
@@khoablink Nope
Bella has really made this role her own. I feel so vindicated after the hate this kid has been getting only for her to rub this fantastic performance in every hater's face.
I never understood the hate for her. Sure, she didn't get a chance to shine in the first three episodes or so, but lately, she really is given so much material to work with, and she's really killing it. Maybe there's an Emmy waiting for her.
Yeah exactly same here, I disliked her like episode one or two but I stopped disliking her after the following episodes she really has proven that she is a good actor
@@stormtraitor6545 People have been leaning into how she doesn't look like the character in the game. That's all I've been seeing.
I never saw a single person say that Bella didn't have the acting chops for the role. The only complaint was how different she looks from the game Ellie, and that point still stands. Honestly I see WAY more people like you making a big deal out of it than I ever saw people complaining.
She's still getting hate in Reddit. Many saying her acting isn't consistent and that she was miscast, and so was Pedro Pascal.
Bella screaming "who broke your fucking finger" was powerful
The screams from Bella near the end of scarily real, legit great acting 😱
See troy being part of this episode was the best thing HBO could do. That shows how much they care about this serie. 👏👏
he probably loved that Ellie was the one to kill him.
Yea, and they killed two birds with one stone by inviting him. At first, they satisfied fans even more, and the second, he is an actor himself, so why not =)
if I'm not mistaken, in 9th Episode there would be Ashley Johnson (VA of Ellie)
@@sergeili5954 Tommy's voice actor was Kathleen's right hand man in the show. Marlene's voice actress reprises her role. The show has Joel, Ellie, Tommy and Marlene's voice actors and they were basically the main cast.
I've never picked up on it before but this really makes you realise that in games the voice acting is done straight into a microphone. Every voice sounds so clear and isolated here in the game but in the show it's clear that they're in a room.
Bella’s delivery of “broke your fucking finger” is incredible. One of the moments where she clearly outshines Ashley Johnson’s voice acting, which is not an easy thing to do.
Nah it was cringe AF tbh. Contrary to popular amateur opinion, screaming doesn't equate to good acting. Ashley Johnson's voice acting was explosive yet controlled anger unlike Bella who is only capable of screaming during an emotionally heightened scene.
Not “voice acting”, just acting. All of the original actors did performance capture/motion capture for the games, not only the voice.
@@TheHISTORYmann Genuine question- what other emotionally heightened scenes do you think Bella inappropriately scream-acted through? Also, what makes you think the "broken finger" delivery was the actor's choice and not a direction?
@@av2279 So the gal who voiced Ellie in the game pretty rapidly gained a reputation as someone who had no qualms taking scenes into her own hands.
The first notable scene this happened was when she gave Joel the "I know about Sarah" speech.
That part in the game where it almost seems like her dialogue messed up and she says something like "Everyone I know has either ldied or left me. Everyone ex-FUCKING except for you" Ellie was not expected to curst or raise her voice. She took that lead herself.
Just about every scene following, Ashley was more or less told to just play it to her own tune.
@@Cryogenius333 Thanks for the info, I do love Ashley Johnson. But I was asking about Bella Ramsey and her acting as Ellie. I'm not sure what you're specifically replying to.
the soundtrack of gustavo santaolalla was missing when ellie hugged joel! It would have given more nostalgia and feeling to that hug in the show.
Never seen Troy act and I was happy to see how good he was. Subtle, very realistic, brilliant.
It’s awesome seeing people from the game show up on the episodes. This was the best episode. The ending was sad all around.
Great mix of nostalgia and drama
Troy blew me away. I really hope he gets more live action work after this episode!
The difference between the show and the tv series ending, with Joel and Ellie reuniting, was that in the show, we were like: jaw dropped, "WHOA, that was INTENSE."
In the game, it was a stunned, shocked silence with a 5-6 business day recovery period before our brains could put it into words. Yes, this was partially because we didn't know it was gonna happen in the game, but did in the show, but I'm speaking more into the effects, lighting, music, and *flavor* of the scene.
My brother really shocked and didn't say a single word. I didn't spoil him this whole episode.
Agree the game waay better
Never played the game and I am just stunned by this episode. I feel like knowing what happens does ruin some of the impact so don’t think the comparison is fair. Just my take tho
Yeah, having played the game makes us see the show different than the people than never played it.
To be fair, playing the game literally puts you in a more direct + intimate perspective than when you are watching it. You are not only living through Ellie, but the harrowing atmosphere & constant navigation of threats to survive significantly heighten the feelings you mentioned (in comparison to the show).
The look of determination during the hug on live action Joel's face says it all. He's relieved she's alive... but in that moment he swears he will never lose her again.
I prefer David and Ellie having to fight off some infected. Only reason being is that when Ellie first meets David, she's very hesitant to trust him and rightfully so. It's by her and David fighting off the infected, and him helping her survive, that she let's her guard down and feels like she can trust him.
And it makes her claim of being infected all that much more real as David was with Ellie fighting infected and would just immediately assume she got infected then
@@nfohkens20 good point makes much more sense
it's a zombie show with 3 zombies the whole season
Yeah, the lack of infected is kinda bothering me.
@@huhwhat7751 Right? Joel and Ellie only have two personal dangerous encounters with infected during their entire journey (museum & the hoard in Ep 5). All the other few times are flashbacks. Like what's the point in traveling across the country for a vaccine if the infected are barely a problem? 😭
i have been anticipating this episode the most and wow did it deliver. the best part about this series is that despite knowing what happens it gives me those same feelings of when i played the game for the first time. the ending of this chapter(again) had me in tears.
+ seeing troy baker as james was such a nice little easter egg :)
I know right. It’s like getting to do it again for the first time. It still hits.

Do they not know that their man tried to take off Joel's head with a baseball bat, while his back was turned? Yet somehow Joel is the bad guy?
In the game Joel falls off a ledge and gets impaled on rebar so the plot works better there.
@@adtastic1533 They still attack him in the game. So it's pretty much the same .
Well the show is trying to justify Part II
@@alexdeghost2729 hey its better to at least justify it compared to how the game handled it
I think a big point the series wants to make is that from everyone's perspective they are the "good guy". Good guys and bad guys don't exist, everyone is just scrapping it out to survive.
Don't censored James's death. By the way, that was a really blast having Troy Baker playing him after being Joel on the vídeogame for years.

Her pronunciation needs some serious work. She sounded like she had rocks in her mouth in the snow

Bella Ramsey is bad.
Agreed. Anyone who disagrees is a worthless dumpster fire idiot.
I see a lot of people saying they wished Joel reunited with Ellie in the building as she was stabbing David but I think what they did was a meaningful change. They are planting seeds for the themes of the second game (Ellie’s slow desensitization to violence and desire for revenge) allowing Ellie to take out her anger on David for that prolonged period of time clues us in as to what she’s capable of
those two things have no correlation whatsoever. joel needs to pull her off of david. big tv show L
You can't argue that Ellie didn't get to take her anger out on David in the game. It wouldn't diminish that in the slightest if Joel interrupted her at the end.
@@awkwardomelette7316 wow you’re boring

I love the way Pedro Pascal yelled “What town”
In the game, last scene feels like it has more emotion, it goes deeper into the "I'm here to take care of you now" than in this episode, however, Bella has been a hell of an actress, veeery good episode this one, very good interpretation!
That’s arguable. Because in the show Ellie was a lot more frightened when Joel snuck up on her, and her switch in emotion when that happened was very believable and real. And also Joel takes off his jacket and wraps it around Ellie
@@mister-pinkmanyeah I actually think the show did that scene better. Her panicked crying seems more believable considering she is literally a 14 year old. Also the regret on Pedro’s face, feeling like he was too late

@@mozzy1268 game did it better 🤷🏻♂️ show was still good but not better
Honestly, I loved how Bella offed David in the show I thought it gave me what the game did but for an on-screen ver. I loved her acting and her rawness I think she did excellent in this scene as Ellie, I did wish they did the same as the game for joel stopping Ellie from hitting David but it is what it is I guess.
It wouldn’t have made sense in the show for Joel to get into a locked building and take the time to hug Ellie while the building burnt down. I think the show made more sense but the game scene was also really good.
@@willm678 i agree.. it makes more sense if they meet outside
@@willm678 and from what David implied it looked like he was going to rape her. Idk about y’all but I would of kept stabbing from the pure panic of it all.
@@Chirpykat yeah, when he says “the fighting is my favorite part” or whatever while trying to rape Ellie is really disturbing, and it makes his deaths even better. The scene in the show just had the raw emotion down better
@@willm678 In the show Ellie took her time to kill David too. The building wasn’t falling down and she walked kind of slowly outside. Joel could go in through the window. Also did you play the game? There it was a more intense personal struggle between David and Ellie, in the show they just made him rapey. The rape part was more subtle in the game
Great episode. It makes sense that they change the end scene so that Joel finds Ellie outside after killing David...the freakin building was on fire! Kind of hard to have an emotional moment between two people when you're inhaling raging smoke and flames!
People keep talking about the locked door, but the door fell in the game from the fire.
And that works because game logic. In reality, if a building is burning so badly that the door frames are falling over, 1. you can't simply walk inside without entertaining some serious burns, and 2. those inside likely will have passed out from smoke inhalation by that point.
13:19 the acting here is so good, joels worried and confused grunts as he tries to get ellie together, she still has no clue its him as shes in fight or flight mode and then collapses from exhaustion... to her luck its joel and then 13:33 ellie realising it's futile trying to explain anything and instead escaping in the fatherly comfort of joel's arms
It’s really incredible how different of a scene it is where Ellie kills David.
In the game, Joel is a superhero who stops Ellie from sinking into that dark place. In the show, Joel finds her already there, and by just being a grounding force, he reminders her (and himself) that you can be in that dark place and come back from it.
Uh I'm pretty sure none of them are superheroes in either version, and I am pretty sure Joel didn't stop Ellie from sinking anywhere in the game.
@@RGC_animation oh yeah the damage was done, she had already nearly been murdered or r*ped and she had just brutally slaughtered a dude with a butcher knife, at the age of 14, nobody gets out of that situation unscarred
The best scene in the game was when Joel pulled ellie off Jacob. It was perfect, the acting and the music togheter. The one in the show didnt feel as good.
Superhero? What?

I never been genuinely terrified, creep out, and disgusted at the same time when watching anything. The show did great.
Great editing job, kudos
Game David was very normal when we first meet him, which is why his change into a cannibalistic asshole caught us off guard.
Series David looked already unhinged at first glance and his attempts at gaining Ellie's trust made us suspicious but there was some doubts on whether he was a good guy or not. Like a cult leader.
This episode should’ve been longer or split into two. Ellie builds trust with him by fighting infected alongside him, which makes the twist even better
Agree
The whole show has felt a bit rushed. 9 episodes is such a strange number too.
Oh man that final scene in the game when Joel comes in right after she killed him was infinitely more impact than Joel just walking to her later on, but every other change they made worked perfectly.
Disagree. The show shifts the trauma so it is only Ellie’s. Joel doesn’t know what happened or what she went through nor did he stop her. In the game it feels like another time Joel swooped in to save her versus the show where she saved herself completely she was totally free. And seeing the trauma on her face absolutely heartbreaking both scenes were gut wrenching in their own ways

Being able to play Ellie as someone so weak but at the same time so strong against people twice her size and after that we play as Joel and it gives us the feeling to get up and just run to save her ASAP to eventually find her being able to take care of herself but also at the same time realizing she's just a kid going through hell, broke my heart. This is the no turning point.
L E G E N D A R Y 💯
It took 10 years and now I can say it's absolutely worth it!
Pedro Pascal nailed the role as Joel and so did Bella Ramsey🔥
Loved the Troy Baker Easter egg they laid out for game fans, can’t believe more people aren’t talking about it tho? I got so excited when I saw him, I literally shouted out “Joel!” lol
Because he's not him
I SAID THE SAME THING! i was like omfg THATS THE GUY! THATS JOEL!!!
I wonder how many are going to recognize Ashley Johnson in the next episode as Ellie...
@@ryanpham3308 huh?
@@alexdewayne9392 umm…it is tho lol you can even search for the cast on google and that’s him
Watching this episode yesterday I was amazed how similar it was to the game. It was like I'm playing it again, I had all those feelings one more time. Bella is incredible, she's a brilliant as Ellie. As well the other actors, they all are play great. I also liked a blur video effect they covered David murder scene, with a fire on the background. It was really cool.
Thank you for doing this!
Changing the baby girl scene is f*cking criminal. It was already perfect. Makes no damn sense to have Joel find her outside.
it does makes sense, the last scene we saw of him in the episode was him outside so how could hefind and be in the exact building she was in, its more realistic to see her coming out of it while he was searching, both are good but imo show is better
@@haileyiscool I disagree.
@@haileyiscool it makes sense if you have trash taste and make excuses lmao
I personally think is more powerful when Joel reach Ellie while she is frantically killing David. The emotional impact is greater. For Joel to see Ellie in that state... makes your heart shrink... it would be devastating for any parent. There's a big difference between seeing the conclusion of something horrible or witness something horrible while is still happening to someone you love.
I like that "It`s not a code" addition :) he was looking like, are you winking, or giving me code to do something else :)
Fantastic episode. However, I was waiting on them to shoot some runners, clickers, and the bloater part. And waiting on David to say: "Now let's check on that buck of ours" 🙂 but I know they said not everything in the game would be in the series
I can’t imagine how this episode feels like for people who haven’t seen the game and didn’t know what was about to happen. I loved every second and I looked forward to see these moments in the tv show. For me, the best thing is that, even if some things are changed, both the game and the show can be considered a masterpiece, in their own ways.
Totally agree with this awesome perspective. It's unfortunate that some people will only be happy with an exact recreation the game, for some reason. And somehow, those people are suddenly all expert television writers and showrunners, with all their critiques and suggestions.
My only gripe with this episode was it lacked the cold blue tones of the game; especially for the Joel interrogation scene
Its amazing how close they got every scene, not just the script but the emotions through the acting its almost identical. I could sit a friend down to watch this and they would get the whole 1st game.
Bro I be just as excited for these as I am the episodes when they come out.
"It's okay baby girl" is what brought me to tears
I was absolutely gutted when Joel didn't stop her mid rampage, I thought that was a pivotal moment for them that brought them closer and it teared me up when I was playing it. Surely there was a way to make that scene happen safely :( big up Troy Baker, was awesome to see him in this episode too.
I think his being able to pick her up afterwards was more impactful. From a purely story standpoint: Joel couldn't protect Ellie; she had to protect herself, and we already know he thinks she shouldn't have to do that. (Joel's said it!) He's going to feel even more impetus to protect her going forward, and more rage that he was powerless to help her. So when he makes the choice at the end of the game, there's gonna be that much more helpless fear driving his decision.
Also, from a "life lived" standpoint: nobody stopped her because she needed that moment to destroy David, and imo it was her right to do so. Maybe it's just cathartic to me, because I didn't get a convenient meat cleaver and the guy's still walking free, but. The way they handled this was refreshing. It would have been easy to play the cliche, but they decided to let her have her moment of vicious triumph--and then Joel could come in and pick up the pieces afterwards. It, at least to me, conveyed a message: "even if there was nobody to help you through what happened while it was happening, there will be people who care what happened and love you and want to keep you safe in your life at some point," which I found heartening.
Idk though, that's of course my opinion, and I'm super biased. It was a powerful scene either way.
They explained it in the podcast. The building was locked and how would he get in without the keys that were on David, so they had her stumble out clearly traumatized
@@k-isfor-kristina That kind of makes me more dissapointed if I'm honest. 😅 Weird reason to change this impactful scene from the game.
I thought they changed it for a more artful reason, not some plot schematics.
Like, I much prefer bepis's interpretation. I would understand more if they were trying to convey something along those lines.
My only complaint for this episode I guess. I thought the game scene was so much more impactful. The show's version was only saved by the two actor's incredible portrayal.
This episode was spot on to the game.
joel saying "babygirl" gets me every time. i'm not crying you're crying
Bella absolutely nailed it in this episode 👏
this is how you adapt game into live action...
I know Troy Baker is a voice actor but he did really well in this on screen role. Seemed really natural, initially I didn't even recognize him until I saw him in the credits. Great job. He should do more on screen acting roles.
bruh we needed the song during the hug
I hope they use THAT ONE during the hospital getaway, at least...
The whole episode was SICKENING, and I loved it. The only critique I had is that the ending with Ellie chopping David up, Joel intervening, the embrace around the flames, and the swell of music deafening what Joel says to comfort Ellie should've been a *full, 100% copy paste* from the game. This is one of the few instances where you do. not. touch. *anything,* one of the few stances where an EXACT copy-paste, to the TINIEST detail, would've packed a punch so hard that it would've left us in an even bigger shocked silence at the end. It would've been more gut-wrenching, if it could possibly be any more.
if you already know what's gonna happen, and the same exact thing did happen, it won't be as gut wrenching as the first time you viewed it. Those who didn't play the game and watched this had the same reaction as those who played the game and experienced that. Besides, you can't copy and paste to the TINIEST detail David stalking Ellie and Ellie doing all sorts of things to distract him
It makes more sense in the show for Joel to not somehow get into a locked building and take the time to hug and console Ellie while the building burns down and is about to collapse. It felt more real having it happen after Ellie has walked out of the building having just survived the most horrible experience of her life

@@Hariseldon477 queria ver vc interpretar..
Merece o Emmy!
i cry every time wtfff.. that final with joel and ellie in series is heartbreaking
They certainly did the interogation scene good!
I don't know why but Ellie's panic after Joel finds her in the show just hit me more. We stayed with Ellie for a few seconds longer and saw this impact instead of Joel finding her in the process of stabbing David.
Felt it was more impactful to stay on her a little longer. Had tears in my eyes. Bella is AN AMAZING Ellie. She nailed it every time.
You cannot hold a bow as long as this without starting to shake
I may be the only one here to have this opinion, but honestly: I think the scenes in the show were more impactful for me than the ones in the game. Bella played out a _terrified_ teenage girl so goddamn well, the screams, the little whimpers and oh my god, don't even get me started on the actor for David. He absolutely NAILED this performance, the lines were even more intense, the looks in his eyes, the sheer terror he instilled in his flock. In the game he was a psychotic cannibal creep. Here, David was an absolute MONSTER. Absolutely worthy of a scene with Ellie demolishing his corpse with that blade and letting it all out. Then that moment when she sees Joel again and just has that thousand yard stare, can't even form words because she's so shell-shocked from the trauma, ugh. So damn intense, and raw, and just a freaking absolute gem of an episode. Honestly my favorite one so far.
This show gets better with every episode. The ending made me tear up a bit.
I sobbed
Bella Ramsay was freaking phenomenal! Her acting was always on point especially in the latest episode
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA nope
@@jchhalo1232 she is. Go cry about it 🤧
Spot on!!
Bella is amazing, what an acting!
The interrogation was spot on and showed Joel’s badass side. Wished Ellie shot the buck with a bow though. :)
I can't be the only one who thought that it lacked emotion because they didn't have joel come In where the building was burning. This left it not as raw and I think the original dialog of the game shows their relationship is only growing by the day. IT was still an amazing episode none the less
No, I agree with you. I almost teared up when playing the game. But I didn't here. It's funny how a few little changes impact the tone of a scene.
I think him actually seeing what Ellie did to David also added a lot to the scene.
@@buzook4405 yeah I think that was my main issue especially since its such an important part of their relationship as it grows
He mentioned the doors were locked so how would Joel get in
@@downbadtv1 Good catch. I liked the change of having Joel finding Ellie outside after the trauma makes it more heartbreaking because he doesn’t know what happened to her, but given her traumatized/terrified face, screaming and face covered with blood, he just knows that something awful must have happened to her.
God both of these are just wonderful man
"it's ok, I believe him"
damn
I think the acting in the game was much better, sometimes it feels like they've got a script that they're reading from right in front of them in the show. They also read their lines to fast in some scenes in the show, in the game they don't mind taking their time, and pausing when needed. Also I liked the scene where Ellie kills David from the game more than the show. Also also, the colouring in the game was better, like in the interrogation scene for example. Though I understand it's difficult to get the same effects IRL.
I think acting is more accurate on show. I see more emotion.
@@puffin_000 I disagree.
They should’ve kept the ending scene with joel coming in the building, the music and muffled noise, those are things that this show unfortunately misses on it’s the little things that matter. This part should’ve been two episodes long it was so rushed and so disappointing compared to the game
How was it rushed?! The only real difference is the game play section of walking through town killing a bunch of people.. where some how everyone doesn't go running to the first sounds of gun fire?! Practically every story moment from the game is here word for word, with slight changes in the dialog.
So, stop comparing then
@@Bakeman3000 mechanically speaking yes, but psychologically, taking more time to get to her builds anxiety and makes the payoff better.
🤡
@@andrespolanco3182 I can see that. But I just don't see it as a problem here. But I understand what you mean. Also I think from a person that played the game, you aren't going to get the same tension as u got from the game, not because the show didn't take long enough, but because you know already.
This is just lovely for fck sake! Best adaptation throughout books, movies, games or folk stories. That precision amazes me.. from the suit to the choice of the actor. This is exactly the difference when something is done for passion/love/fun instead of money/views/likes. I hope it stays pure like this forever..
Bella Ramsey is so good in the show, really amazing series
