I saw this Bocci 22 System outlet and thought I would give it a try. The concept was new to me but I had my doubts on how the outlet would actually work in a standard install. Is the minimalistic design worth the insanely high cost and dramatic increase in installation complexity?

Bonkers. The reason we don't "embed" outlets into the drywall compound itself is so that when we push plugs in or pull plugs out we don't have to worry about cracking/breaking the drywall around the plug. Whoever invented this just has no idea.
Trust me, the inventor has an idea. They're laughing on the way to the bank because these are clearly made for people with more money than sense, lol. For the price of just one of those duplexes you can do an entire bedroom with top of the line outlets, and switches.
Great point!! 👍🏼
Those engineers who invented that use to work for my company.
You're right about not embedding outlets in drywall compound, but this one was screwed into an existing box, relieving the stress. However, while the outlet might not pull out I'll bet it will crack and flake off around it over time. You make a good point.
I had never seen this before and now I know what to avoid. Thank you for the tutorial!
I have installed this type of outlet before. It was for a music artist with a high end home. I installed the double outlet type style, and was actually installed in the kitchen where there was backsplash. So not only did I have a tough time installing these, because the depth had to be perfect, but the tile guys had it even worse cutting out the holes in the backsplash tile where the outlets were gonna go, had to be so precise. They costed about $750 each since they were color matched with the tile. Looked nice and minimalist for sure, but not worth it for the average consumer. Also, I have lost that special tool that is needed to remove them, lol.
Sounds like a bad case of too much money, no brains. Wealth is wasted on the rich.
Perfect example of too much money, and no brains.
Wealth is wasted on the rich.
Didn't I see this video like 6 months ago?
Yes, I remember it too.
A year ago. Same title or very similar also.
Same here
I said that within the hour this was released and my post was removed for some unknown reason... It was actually a year ago, I had posted a link to it... He said in another reply this was a test he was making, I do not remember the exact reason...
Likewise for me.
wow. $$$ and doesnt even look that good
Not only is the initial install labor intensive , but a replacement would be a nightmare.
Hopefully, you have matching paint. If the existing paint has any UV damage, the original paint won't match.
This product, in my mind, is a total fail!
Agreed, you would have to LOVE the look to justify the installation, lack of durability, lack of serviceability, and cost
I could see some limited use cases especially in new build/remodeling, when cost isn't a concern but design and specifically minimalism is, where this product fits that specific niche.
I can’t see or think of an application where I would need this. Thanks!
Thanks for the great video introducing this system. But I guess after all my questions is why would I need this...
Considering home usage, the wall plate itself is for service convenience (cheap and fast to replace) and also importantly, to prevent plugs scratching the wall during regular plugging and unplugging.
But worst of it is, it does not look good at all, at least to me. I might be trained to adapt to the common squarely wall plates, but I really don't feel such a weird "textured" round patch on the wall looks good. It looks worse than normal wall plates.
I imagine it might be great for some business environment, but I can hardly imagine it will be widely accepted by most homes.
I realize it’s a minimalist design, but I think it would look good with a nice high quality circular piece of trim.
I want to have these amazing marketing skills these guys have selling this product!
I don't see how this could be considered high end. The net result, even if finished perfectly looks unfinished and cheap.
it does look unfinished, it’s like the installer forgot the trim ring.
I guessed that high because YOU ALREADY POSTED THIS EXACT VIDEO
And I thought it was just me having a deja-vu experience. I guess after spending all that money and time, he wanted to milk it for all he could.
Wow. No words for this "product".
Oh. There's words for it. Lol
One question, WHY?
Valid question, I assume modern design and ultra high end homes looking to spend money.
Why? Because people are stupid and there's money to be made. I agree with you though.
Didn't you post this last year? "The Most Expensive Outlet I Ever Installed"
I thought so. I swear I've seen this video before.
Yes! It’s the identical video, different title.
ruclips.net/video/mgu2J1PhujI/видео.htmlsi=vqmviGi1F9LVso2f
Yes he did and I said that and posted a link to that other video and my post was removed... He said in another reply this was a test of something, I don't remember exactly why. Maybe it is to check if we remembered it? 😉
I thought I had seen this product in a video before and after I posted went back and looked for it but no joy. Actually I think there was a link to it in the previous video but I noticed there is not a link in this video. Perhaps it did not meet sales projection and was discontinued.
I can see a few possible uses for something like that if you want an outlet on a wall maybe for Christmas light once a year but other wise want the outlet hidden but not at the cost you mentioned!
Um, I've seen it on your channel before, isn't this a repost?
Yep, we are testing out some new thumbnails and trimmed up the video a bit to try and reach more of our subs. Thanks for the support 👍
@@EverydayHomeRepairs My post about this being a repost I posted an hour ago was apparently removed, did you remove it (and if so why)?
Looks good but I don't think is worth the expense. Thanks for effort to show and explain the cost
I'm assuming to do this you need to take painting course before becoming an electrician 😂😂 Good Job thank you so much :)
Would look better flush and in the same color as the wall
Yeah, but the chances of a perfect install in drywall is pretty low. I would imagine the drywall would get damaged pretty easily if the outlet was being used regularly.
don't worry, noone will notice there's an outlet here, it won't get damaged :p
Wow, Scott.. I can't believe that anyone would ever buy one of those unless of course they were making a video about the outrageous cost, difficulty of install/service and awful appearance. lol
Could maybe understand where in some situation where they *had* to have something powered in a location but wanted to keep it as visually minimal as possible. Have heard of this from funeral homes etc
I love this !!! I'm revamping all 61 outlets in my home next weekend because of this video !!! Thanks !
lol, troll alert 😂
This is clearly targeted exclusively at rich people who care about how things look and not at all what they cost. There are entire magazines full of ads for “designer” versions of mundane items at 30x what a regular person would pay.
Yeah I would think this is in ULTRA high-end homes. I would think that is the only reasonable market.
I can't see wealthy people using these either. They're awful, tacky looking, not high end at all.
This is targeted at the same trendies who buy electric cars.
Yeah... I think I've just go with a paintable cover to achieve a more minimalist look at a fraction of the cost. I'll prep and paint every surface you can see to make it practically invisible and still save a ton!
Since I mud and tape occasionally, I think this is way too labor intensive. Does this haves UL approval?
Why go from a duplex outlet to a single outlet?
First thing I thought of when I saw this, that someone got lazy and slapped a Leviton R51-515CV-0OR connector on the end of the wires. 😂
This is one I can't afford to try.
Unbelievable!
Wow. I don't know anyone who would want that look, let alone pay that much$🤣
How could this not violate code? That does not look like an accessible box.
Losing another plug not working for me 😕
$15 outlet, $155 in spark-ignites-paper insurance?
Are you kidding me?! No way! I will never use that, way too much work and ungodly expensive! Interesting and thank you for presenting it, but no way! 😂
Didn't you cover this before? Or is this another one like it? There is No Way I would ever do this! Not only is it much more work, it's $170 to $250, and you lose an outlet. No Way, Jose! Plus the other downsides you mentioned. What's "Luxury" about it? I think it looks stupid. Plus, depending on who you talk to, it was installed upside down. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣 Thanks anyway, Scott.
Why would anyone want to do this. 🤔
Gees, thinking about any maintenance on these feels overwhelming. Expensive just to be expensive?
Agreed, maintenance or a future swap out would be no fun.
If I had that outlet I would be changing out to the duplex outlet to have two plugs instead of one. I wouldn't say this is the dumbest idea of the year but it's pretty close.
As a form follows function guy, I don't even like the way it looks. The flush mount ones look better than standard, and are still serviceable. Anything that improves function, like recessed outlets that help with the plugs sticking out, is more attractive to me, because functionality is beautiful in itself.
Cons - decreased functionality compared to duplex, 10 to 15 x cost of a commercial grade receptacle, significantly longer installation time due to drywall repair, no improvement in quality, and expensive specialty tool to remove
Pros - ???
Cost benefit analysis - A very hard NO WAY!
Someone else mentioned using it in marble/granite, and it is definitely less visibly intrusive than a standard duplex + plate combo in the RIGHT scenario... like a high end kitchen that needs an occasional appliance like a breadmaker or plate-warmer and don't want a larger outlet breaking up the visual. So I understand the extremely limited applications where this could be useful, and therefore the associated premium cost of it.
I know you're a big wago booster but my understanding is that Wago nuts are not rated for aluminum wires?
Sooooo, I'm going to remove two perfectly good outlets to replace with what? One outlet?! As Chris Rock would say..."Good Grief! How about I give you a couple of wires for a dollar!
The cost of repairing that outlet in the future is a LOT more than the cost of the installation. In 15-20 years you'll have to cut that outlet out, repair the wall and paint the entire room.
Heard You say ... , $ 100.70
For people with more money than brains!
They are best use on ceramic tile, granite, marble and wood paneling. Very European.😊😊
Outlets don't last forever, you never trim the electrical gang box as you can see it was loose enough to push back nor do you mud in an electrical cover as outlets are a consumable and wear out and WILL need to be replaced. Wagu connecters only provide minimal metal to metal contact of conductors and as such show heat buildup and resistance at upper end of load. Not enough wire surface to surface contact they are equivalent to the squeeze on trailer and car stereo harness that always give you problems months later. They cost pennies for a reason.
No, Wagos do not work like the pinch trailer connectors and it’s not an edge biting into the conductor. They are in a class called levered nuts and aren’t cheaper than wire nuts.
Crappy drywall work around it. People with the money to do odd stuff like this should expect a smoothly finished wall surface.
This was posted a few months ago. Why are you reposying this?
I swear I’ve seen this video before, or am I confusing it with someone else’s video? Is this a repost?
Good call, yep repost with small edits and new thumbnails. Testing a few things out.
ruclips.net/video/mgu2J1PhujI/видео.htmlsi=vqmviGi1F9LVso2f
Architectural Digest subscribers probably aren’t surprised. Part of the design is a statement that the owner can afford to overpay for even mundane features.
Wealth is wasted on the rich. Too much money, no brains.
Nice reupload
I don’t have the words…
I wouldn't choose that outlet at any price.
Isn't this a re-run?
Bad idea before; bad idea now.
Why the re-upload?
And designers use these in spec homes. Usually found behibd wall paper, some type of custom furniture peice, or in a cabinet. Ive installed these in the past Not fun.
I’d rather buy a Cardas audiophile outlet.
i feel like the design is very modern, but at the same time, looks like something that would be in a 100 year old home, lol. those old houses often have things in them that would never be done today due to cost and overall amount of skilled craftsman required to do it well...and we just don't have that anymore. edit: also, i don't really like the look at all
I don't get it? Why would you even use this outlet being so much money and serviceability? Is it just for looks of not having the wall plate showing?
Even if this was cheap as a regular outlet and packed with tech i still dont want it. The plate installation creates a bump in the wall that just can not be fixed, that alone is a no go for me. Add plugging and unplugging and yanking cords will sure create crack within a year as well.
nice innovation , but fire the entire r/d department team 🔥😡
You’re Fired! 💯
Based on how it looks, it looks awkward, there's no cover plate, its like a door without a door frame. Then add insult to injury with the price. I already was not a fan, but unless this outlet does something really special other than provide an outlet, it's nothing but another luxury scam meant to separate you from your money. Kind of like a K-cup for coffee but worse.
Bro, you either have bags or are wearing makeup. Either way, your electrical and drywall skills are a tradesman's dream...we get to come behind you and clean this mess up!
Keep it up YT University!
I can't believe that's a code accepted installation. If there a splices behind the device, how are you going to service an issue. Not through a single receptacle sized opening that requires a specialty tool. As an electrician I'd say, 'forget it' if I were called on a service call. OR...my hammer could solve the accessibility problem. What a joke!
Why?
I’ll give this one a miss thanks 🤭
You lost one whole receptacle. Why change
so now you have uneven wall that will start to crack soon
You’re missing out on something
$240 in your pocket !!
Why go from 2 outlets to 1. What’s the convenience? Forget about the aesthetics…
What you’re missing is $240 and time that you’ll never get back.
As a drywall finisher, I am appalled
That should be against code.
Why would you want to sacrifice another outlet for this type of plug?😡
Is it even legal? Because if I'm correct, you're not allowed to actually close off a box like that.
It's a good question. I would think the need for the special removal tool would be frowned upon by NEC.
It looks unfinished
So only a few hundred dollars to make a perfectly good receptacle harder to work on, worse to look at, half as many outlets and 10x harder to install. Seems like a deal.
Why? Why go from 2 to 1 outlet? Why do all that work when you don't have too? It is not like it is stealth or hidden in any way. Don't imagine that plug will be on the market for too long.
I frequently deal with customers like this. They don't care if it makes sense. That it takes longer or is wasteful. They blitch about the added cost but pay it anyway. Then it looks studpi. It doesn't even look good. So it blends in. Who notices receptacles anyway?
I thought $20 - and at that price I wouldn't even remotely consider it for myself or any of my clients.
Why??!!
So wait ... the entire point of this thing is that "it looks better"? Not in my opinion. I kept waiting for a benefit to be revealed and it turns out there isn't one. lol
Man, that looks weird. I don't care for it. Wago nuts are the best though. I don't bother with standard wire nuts anymore. Not worth the bother .
A LOT of extra work!
If there was any real demand, counterfeits will show up from China at 1/10 the cost and still make a huge profit on it. Plastic goods cost pennies on the dollar, making the mold is where the cost is, such as car fender molds etc.
Dang that's goofy.
Waste of time and money… the only place for this is a dedicated outlet for your fridge
$250 would be a lot to hide an outlet behind a fridge 😂
Don’t get the design or cost! Crazy!
One thing is for certain, I do not want one of these things, not now, not ever.
absolutely stuuupid expensive. That's more absurdly priced than Festool tools, and I didn't think that was possible
ummmmmmmmm ....WHY ⁉..... hmmmmmm.... ( luxury ?? )..... i don't comprehend.
It would be better to show testing power is off in both sockets in case one socket is switchable. Also, our electrical code now forbids us from modifying the electrical boxes.
The cost and install is, to put it mildly, a bit much and it isn't "minimalistic" because you still have to plug an electric cord into it! Visually I don't see minimalist...I only see big bucks down the potty and way too much work!
I fail to see the purpose of this. Maybe if it came with some type of cover that was fancy enough to leave it out of sight it might be worth something.
But this is absolutely pointless.
Why? Where is that in use? Asia/Europe? Lol.
Why??? I don't even like it as well as the standard duplex outlat!
Not for me.
Yikes, way too much mud / width needed, and its only 1 outlet, even ignoring the price.
Horrible drywall patch
Just to start with, it's not attractive. I could change outlets in several rooms of my house using standard outlets, in the time it takes to install one of these. No way would I go to the effort. Only on a new build do I see these being practical to install but then the cost is absurd. I see this as a huge fail by the manufacturer. But thanks for showing it. Sorry you had to go to all that trouble. I didn't come close to guessing the price. The best product was the WAGOS!
