Hey Mark thanks pal glad you liked the video I would love to see that head shot! 😂 the detail will be insane.
I purposely don’t mention any of my locations for that reason, I have had a couple of comments one in particular saying they wouldn’t watch the rest of the video because I state it’s an undisclosed area! But for me this going out to everyone means I cannot vet who goes off the back of the video so I will always put the wildlife first! If people don’t like that then that’s on them and they are only watching videos for the wrong reasons.
Anyhow great to meet you 👍🏻

Brilliant footage Mike! Sadly it’s a much quieter year for shorties for me, last year a couple of local birders with big twitter followings (rspb involved no less) decided to tweet daily updates about a site locally known and kept quiet for years. Soon you could head down and see 30+ photographers/birders and cars along a 50m stretch - the owls haven’t returned this year.

Shorties are not site faithful birds and are notoriously changeable regarding winter sites - ones with good numbers one year get few or none the next - with no real links to numbers of birders present. Most come to us in Winter from colder climates like Scandinavia and Iceland. I see this on my local site the Dee estuary, numbers not great this year but can easily be 6 plus other years on a days visit .local dog walkers are a bigger problem, ignoring 'no access' signs etc but still appear to have no effect on numbers year on year
