    That symbolism at the end though.
    Everything you once were... everything you clung to... it's dead, and all you can do it moving on.
    Life isn't over, even when your past is dead. It can go on, and you can survive.

    Man I like this scene. Kerrigan became the primal queen of blades with amazing power and yet she was only barely able to kill Narud here! She almost died in the process!

      Samir Duran/Emil Narud is Xel'naga, the race with vast psionic abilities. Though Duran/Narud was definitely lower tier compare to Xel'naga of Amon or Ouros level caliber but I'd say his power is still stronger than at least Ulrezaj. Also, we should remember what Kerrigan fought was just a puppet. Duran/Narud's real body was at the Void all along. It is possible considering that body was just an avatar, it could've been weaker compared to his real strength. I think Xel'naga temple amplified connection between the avatar and real body in the Void. Perhaps that's why he said to Kerrigan "You know nothing about Xel'naga." Maybe he meant, compared to his real strength, Primal Queen of the Blades (at this point, Kerrigan's Psi Index is at least 14~15, thus other than Ulerzaj or Tassadar and Adun with power of Twilight, there shouldn't be any character who can fight her equally in direct combat) is still inferior to lower tier Xel'naga like himself.

      L3ndzo83 It's totally subjective. I think you're still nostalgic about the first Starcraft 1. Nothing wrong with that. SC1 was very brutal and I loved it. But in my opinion, I just loved the backstory of how the Zergs began. The PRIMAL ZERGS were the pure one. They were eluded and remained independent constantly evolving creatures. The Zergs you miss are the corrupted ones. Kerrigan enters the primordial spawning pool and transforms into a primal Queen of Blades, having full control over her will. Now that's a pretty epic story. If you don't agree, the least you can do is agree to disagree.

    • @PabloYaos

      Avatar Wan Yeah honestly I cannot see how you could possibly say that on a worst place that as a comment to this video. They chose to reunite everyone that Duran has wronged, but not to mention Duran by name just so that newcomers don't feel lost in the new lore. That is one of my main gripe with the new story, the other one being... Well, many things, but first and foremost the horrible, terrible writing.
      I will take a leap and say the whole "overmind is a good guy and kerrigan was a solution to a problem" might have been a somewhat decent story to explore, but it's so. badly. presented, that it didn't convinced any of the fans of the first game. Thing is I think the presentation of the story is EVEN WORSE than the story itself, and many fails to see that.

    Just to clarify it all:Amon is a selfish xel'naga who wants to reshape the world in his image,and the dark voice is an ancient beig inprisoned by the xel'naga in the void. Narud/Duran serves Amon, not the voice. The hybrid are needed because the xel'naga cant have kids the normal way, so they gifted 2 races with pureness(of form and essence) and make hybrids from them to create next generations of xel'naga . Amon and friends sped up this process, so the hybrid are much weaker than xel'naga

    • @chicagoboy888
      @chicagoboy888 10 лет назад +4

      Amon is the Dark Voice. The being that was imprisoned by the Xel' Naga in the void is The Voice in the Darkness. According to Blizzard, Dark Voice and Voice in the Darkness are two separate entities. The hybrid is something created exclusively by Amon and his followers, it's actually a bastardization of the Xel' Naga's process of finding two races to begin the next cycle. The Xel' Naga's process was supposed to have the two races merge naturally over a period of thousands of years, a non-invasive process in which they would simply awaken with the sentience and memories of the Xel'Naga becoming them. Amon's hybrids completely undermines the master plan of the other Xel'Naga.

    I never really thought about how symbolic it is, Zerg Sarah killing the Human Sarah (Narud) is sarah killing off the last human part of herself. She has to. the human part of sarah has to die for her to be able to do what is necessary in the end. Brilliantly written blizzard, as always.

    • @Tazkar
      @Tazkar 10 лет назад +11

      Actually she didn't, as the big difference between this Kerrigan Queen of Blades and the one the Overmind originally created is she still has a conscious, she can feel remorse for her actions which is a very unzerglike mentality. She demonstrates this remorse several times in the campaign.

    Okay, now first off for the people who are saying shit about SC2.
    if you didnt like it, don't play it. simple enough.
    also:
    for everyone who is saying "NARUD ISNT DURAN YOU DUMBshit HEAS A XEL NAGGHAH"
    There is evidence to them being the same entity.
    A) Narud is duran backwards and vice-versa.
    B) During brood wars, Duran talks to zeratul about the hybrids, and about how they are the end of a cicle, and the culmination of their history. During HoTS, Narud(The xel'naga we see later) is running a hybrid facility.
    C) Duran, during Brood wars is known as a "infested" terran that serves kerrigan. (even though he has no clear sign of infestion, he helps kerrigan on many things that would speed up the hybrid process.)
    D) if you didn't notice they are the same person by now, you have a problem.

    As a huge StarCraft fan, I'm pretty disappointed with the story's quality, compared to SC1 and Brood War. So the one on one fight scene cinematics do little for me. I keep hoping for huge battle scenes, like the intro to Heart of the Swarm, but longer, or the intro to the cancelled SC Ghost.
    Imagine an army of zealots lining up for battle as overlords and zerlging can be seen approaching quickly in the distance. The battle could be long and desperate for the Protoss, but won by them with archons or colossi showing up just in time.
    I'm more curious to see what happens in Terran politics or a Protoss campaign (like a crusade) to win back Aiur and other planets. I don't care about Amon and the hybrids anymore. We all know what'll happen: flashy final fight, Amon loses. Blah blah blah. Epic like Lord of the Rings or Star Wars right? No.

      Blizzard really does need to get a department of their animation squad to go full time into development of theatrical releases. A few Broodwar documentaries, with a real canonical scale associated with them would be cool, since ya'know that's basically like the Starcraft equivalent of making a WW2 documentary, and those are pretty common. Also, a final, locked down version of Diablo's lore, cause they've jumped around so much in that universe that I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the Demons and Angels are granted their divine powers by little insectoid aliens that latch onto their brains. >_>

      I don't know what ever gave you the idea she was a "mercenary". Sarah Louise Kerrigan was trained in the Confederacy's ghost program and reached the rank of lieutenant in their army. After that she turned against the Confederacy and joined the Sons of Korhal as a rebel fighting out of conviction that the Confederacy was corrupt and had to be opposed. She never fought for money like a mercenary.
      Little did she know that the leader of the rebels, Arcturus Mengsk, had political ambitions of his own and would turn out to be just as corrupt as - if not more than - the Confederacy itself.

      @d0nj03 9 лет назад +2

      minigunexo
      Well after all the destruction they inflicted on this story in SC2 that would be the least of my concerns. :)
      How about the fact that they turned an epic sci-fi story of galactic proportions into a cheesy love story with a sci-fi backdrop?
      How about the fact that they traded the awesome central consciousness of an entire race - the Overmind - for a new leader that used to be simply a very efficient offensive unit "borrowed" via infestation from another race and who had a very short evolution and adaptation as a Zerg? (The HotS trailer told me everything I needed to know about what they had done to the concept of the Zerg leader: "Armies will shatter, worlds will burn, vengeance will be mine!"? Really? Sounds like a cartoon villain.)
      How about the fact that they borrowed the concept of Sargeras from the WarCraft lore - the single member of the world-creator race who once turned rogue and corrupted one of the lesser races, turning them into the "villain race" of the game and who is now coming back from the dead or from some mysterious faraway place or prison? (Amon=Sargeras, The Zerg=The Orcs, did they really think the fans wouldn't see through that?)

      @DeMishMIsh 9 лет назад +19

      SleepyFoX hmmph,yes and no......"its over narud"-kerrigans forces just destroyed his hybrid lab,which they thought was his way to resurrect amon....
      "no its only the begining"....narud knows amon is already alive,so he taunts kerrigan a bit....
      i dont think kerrigans emotions for jim and the freeze of fear that jim actually was narud needs explanation,then her anger over narud daring to go as low as to use the one person she truely holds dear....
      and then the whole "im everything you lost"....well,doh,her humanity,her chance of a normal life...
      "im everything you never had...." is the only line id say is totally out of context here....
      heart of the swarm is a good story, sure its shallow in terms of character development....but its supposed to develop the zerg as a speices,focus on thier origins,their purpose etc.....and the end sums it up......that the zerg are free now,and they can choose to be bringers of life or destroyers of world etc etc

      DeMishMIsh What I mean by generic comic book lines is that obviously it makes sense, but you could throw in most of the dialogue from these scenes and put them in an entirely different story and it wouldn't make a difference. "It's over blah blah no, it's just the beginning blah blah The end is near, you've already lost, blah blah blah".
      Some stories can get away with shallow characters if the plot is good but hots was largely a dull sci fi revenge story mostly following and exploring Kerrigans character. The problem is she and all the characters around her are boring as dogshit.

    • @DeMishMIsh
      @DeMishMIsh 9 лет назад +1

      SleepyFoX
      not gonna argue with the first part,and not really with the second either.
      the characters around kerrigan indeed are pretty dull,they are barely plot devices....doing a pretty good job at representing their factions tho. Zegara with her "herp derp we so mighty for da swarm attack kill eat" represents the hive minded zerg swarm pre-hots.
      Dehaka is the opposite.....focusing on adaptation and survival,which is what the primal zerg are all about.
      Stukov is pretty interesting,but there's too big of a plothole left there to call his story a job well done.....they could have done much more to make you care or be interested in the character.....
      as for kerrigan,well,theres really little character development for her.......she started as a total badass bent on revenge and ended the exact same way,only now accepting herself as the zerg messiah ....
      but i cant really hate on the story either,sure,there wasnt alot of character development....but the game did a good job moving the starcraft plot forward and explaining a few things......like what did happen with the zerg and the protoss and the xelnaga thingy......what went down with jim and kerrigan and megsk after WOL....some more background about the zerg.....and it set the cliffhangers for the LOTV finale of the series........it always gets a bit quiet before the storm,i hope LOTV will end the series with a bang :P (not mass effect style tho,please)
      but then again im pretty baised being a huge fan of the game :P

    • @Doctor-Fate
      @Doctor-Fate 9 лет назад +3

      SleepyFoX I don't know what people expected from the Heart of the Swarm expansion, since the only character who can portrait real emotions and thoughts that we as humans can relate and understand is Kerrigan. Zegara, Abathur, Isha and the other Broodmothers etc. are just creatures that know only to obey and do their job without question, like in the military - they don't have any rights and a will of their own, they just follow their obligatory "chain of command". The Character development is concentrating on facial expressions, body language and the idea to see behind the obvious. The main reason behind the full-auto talking and dialog system behind SC1 was, first that then Blizzard wanted everyone to understand the game... so they tried to explain the game idea/plot with a speech or dialog and to show the characteristics behind their (then current new) characters so they can build up the story and for us to know them better. Second, in that time the graphics of the game were as you know pretty neat for their time but not as realistic, so to make you see the feelings and expressions for the characters, they had to represent it at their best with all-in-depth conversations. But I agree, they need to fill-in all the inert conversations, but not to the point to be like Mass Effect, where they have to explain everything to you.
