They are right.. I've owned porsches, bmw's,mercs, audis Alfa Romeo is something else. Owning one can give the owner a very special feeling... they are special cars in there own little way.
Jeremy is wrong. The GT is the prettiest car Alfa has made for a long time. The 159/Brera look good in photos but are flat and surprisingly bland in person (apart from those headlights of course). In pictures the GT looks slab-sided and badly proportioned, but in person it's curvaceous, sleek and dramatic, and flared in all the right places. It's perfect.
People who say Alfa's are unreliable either haven't owned one or have had a bad one. They are no less reliable now than any other brand. The GT is gorgeous and much more desirable than a a social conformist box like a BMW.
the alfa GT 2.0 JTS was my first car and I don't have a bad word I can say about except it's a bit more expensive to maintain than normal cars, but the drive was absolutely brilliant, it was super comfortable to drive long distances with and it feels better than sitting in a bmw or audi to be honest. not to mention the car is drop dead gorgeous in my opinion.
In terms of reliability that is... The 156, 147, Brera, 159, GT, all great honest solid cars with amazing design. Too bad they stopped producing the Alfa V6 engines, I hope they come back some time. Probably the best sounding engines in a regular car with great performance.
I've 128000 on mine. 13yrs old. Has never missed a beat.Had 7 broken passenger side door handles, bloody kids broke them all fightin over the front seat. Love it.
If you drive an Alfa you drive a car with a soul, driving it makes me happy, it's constantly wanting you to get through corners faster. I drive 155 1.8 '97. It's reliable, just treat it good, not like many ppl do, cold motor and 4000+ rpm is deffinitly goeing to kill any car, but an Alfa kills faster because of that. If you treat it good, you will be payed for that. And yes my 155 sucks petrol :)
i have a ALFA ROMEO GT 1800 ts....its not so fast but on track race , its wonderfull, the brake , the stearind, the sound and the performance is great..........the driving trip to be relaxing, the style of those coupe is great..........i love this car,,,I would love to had turbo , but I have no problem..........
I'm a Gemini and have an Alpha a gt sums me and it up perfectly ... two faces , plus and minus, joy and sadness, hope and despair , love and hate but for that brief moment of the space between well only you will know
proud owner of an Alfa 156 1.6TS with 95000 km over the last 9 years...I also own a peugeot 207 GT... I prefer the alfa! The peugeot is way faster but the alfa gives you the feeling that you drive a proper car that Sounds good, turns good, and looks gorgeous..... Anyone can make a car that goes straight...alfa knows how to make a car turn
I have a 1985 gtv6 and i'm a cancer. I have to disagree with the unreliability of an Alfa. I drove a 1984 gtv6 for seven years (daily) and it never left me stranded, failed to start or got tempramental. Just changed the oil every 3000 miles, timing belt every 30,000 and mind the brake pads. Other than that had the propshaft doughnuts and bearing replaced once. I liked it so much I bought the '85 to replace it with only 34,000 miles on the clock and original paint. This one is not a daily driver.
Oh yeah, I love all the TG boys' sense of humour, they're all different but at the same time they're all great and they compliment each other perfectly. I've just started going to the TG website and reading their blogs, they're very good writers too, quite engaging.
I'm a pisces and had 4 Alfas, haha. First one was a Sprint Veloce 1.5, then a Giulia 1.6, then my crazy Gtv 2.0 and finaly a 1.8Giulietta. All I'm praying for is that they make an affordable rwd model again... it just makes for better playing!
the selespeed has had some problems in the past - it also needs regular maintenance. Do yourself a favor and just get a manual. As long as it has been looked after properly they are fine..
I own an alfa 156 and I'm a Sagittarius...God I love my Alfa...people always say they will let you down.. so will a Citroen, Peugeot, Renault, Seat, Skoda, the list goes on... never had a problem with mine, drives like a dream... petrolheads wet dream
I just bought one a week ago its 2004 1,9 jtd 150hp with beautiful red leather interior, only 137 000 km on it and I only paid 2900 euros for it, it runs great only the clutch is hard
@alfistii1 i bought mine from a bloke who got it from the local police who sold them off because they got new ones....he restored it completely, and "pimped it" a bit...he got it for 6 grand, restored it for 1.5 grand, sold it for 7k it has the 2.0 diesel engine out of a transit van, which is as reliable as a plough horse, he also installed an LPG kit, which makes for great runing costs i've had it for 3 years now and all i had to replace on it was the odd light bulb and a squeeky door hinge
Im a Pisces ♓️ and did buy a black gt 3.2 v6 busso last week. Its the most expansive one when it came out. This car is just really fun to drive, maybe a little bit heavy on the nose but that's just it. Its still good looking today if you ask me. That engine sound is just porn for the ears and i think it's a masterpiece, even how it looks under the hood!
I have a Lancia Delta mk2. It's almost completely an Alfa under the bonnet. With other words, I can exchange more then 50% of the parts with Alfa parts. I must honestly say that I haven't had any issues with my car. Nothing else then issues which other cars also have. Exhaust, clutch, tires, brakes, whipers. The things that simple wear out basically. I have to say that I always give it a big maintenance service one year and a small one the other, next to the MOT checkup that is. :)
Ha, I've had my Alfa 156 3 months and replaced the alternator -a mission involving dropping the rear of the engine and removing the RH drive shaft- and replaced the fuel pump, which cracked and filled the cabin with gas fumes.
I am Taurus for as long as I am on this world since '54. I had a lot of cars, Simca 1501 (who remembers that one, is of my age), Ford Capri, BMW 520, Citroen BX and many more. They all had their charme, but now I've owned 3 Alfa's and planning to buy the 4th in next year. Value for money, but Alfa gives you a little extra, PLEASURE PER MINUTE. Never had 2 cars of the same brand, until I bought my first Alfa (a 33 btw)
I think he does know what he's talking about, because he clearly has much experience in this field, since he's been doing it since 1874. Obviously, it doesn't mean that there is a 100% chance of every single Alfa to brake down, but the truth is, and I also talk of personal experience, he is absolutly right.
I don't know about the Falcon and your other aussie-specific Fords, but the Mondeo and Focus are both well-built cars. (It's the Fords where I live - in America - that you need worry about.)
I love alfa, would like to own one, looks great both inside and outside, only thing stop me is when I look for a second hand 147 or 156 selectspeed, i saw some of them sell cheap because gearbox break down, miss gear, and very costly to fix in Australia... is the gearbox so weak? wait for your suggestion.
i have a alfa gt 1.9 jtdm 150cv i love it im a taurus btw , taurus like beautifull things in everything , beautifull landscapes , beautifull women , beautifull cars , pretty in everything. and there is no prettier day to day cars then alfa
I agree that BMW turns great...But you'll find this turning satisfaction to the top range products (M3 etc) take the 116 for example...RWD but the steering is no compare to a Fwd alfa 156.
Looking to buy a Gt 3.2.... Got a bmw 320 ci sport.. and it seems everyone else got a beemer too. Dont see many GT's on the road and i need that 3.2 v6 in my life... For sale 2004 BMW 320 ci sport £5k Full s/h mint condition or will swap for alfa GT 3.2
No, I haven't had the opportunity to read any of the TG boys' stuff, think I'll have to look out for them though. We used to have a huge shed a few years back when all of us were living at home, we each had our work areas in the shed and I always kept my stuff neat, tidy and categorised (eg different screws sorted out into little tubs whereas the boys would just have them all in one big jar), it was annoying when the boys couldn't find their own stuff so they'd "borrow" mine and never return it!
Not only top range products, believe me. I have never driven 116, but I can assure you, that 316, 318 etc. are giving this "turning satisfaction" that you'll never find in alfa.

@215alessio Coming from an American here. I love love love my 1979 Alfa Romeo Spider. Super fun car to drive. It may not be the most fast car on the road, but it's just plain fun to drive. You all make great cars!
there are 2 possibilities: u either love alfa 159 or u can be just jealous if u can't afford one but I love 159 and I'm so frustrated that I cannot afford one yet, about alfa gt it's cool also I think it looks like batman's car
actually i reckon italy is probably one of the most well known countires for cars, is why the best sports cars come from there, alfaromeo have some fantastic cars so i duno wtf your on about.

you have to remember these guys are driving cars most of us could never afford FOR A JOB!!! Ive got an old Alpha 156 that ive been thinking of selling for the last 2 years, but every time it passes its MOT i think "i'll keep her for another year...."
@waltibaba I know you extended it but it was pointless to do so. Who doesn't admit Alfas have shit reliablity in fact that's what makes them so special because if you can have one and for it to not go wrong for about 150,000 miles than you got it made. That's the beauty of it.
"all the pisceans would have been here, but their alfas broke down on the way." Nonesensical and logical all at the same time. Gotta love his (warped) logic.
I have a Hyundai genesis coupe. And I absolutely love it. But I would trade it off for a 159 gt at a heart beat. Problem is, it's quite impossible... T.T speciaelly when you're in America...
I've driven in the 159 owned by my uncle. And an Alfa Romeo GT. Google for "Alfa Romeo 159 interior" and "Alfa Romeo GT interior" images. The dashboards are so clean and empty. It's not MY taste. I'm not saying they are bad.. nor is Jeremy.. he's just saying that he doesn't like it. What is wrong with that :\?
If the GT was a RWD car, then it would be one of the greatest cars ever
The fwd really let’s it down 😢
They are right.. I've owned porsches, bmw's,mercs, audis
Alfa Romeo is something else. Owning one can give the owner a very special feeling... they are special cars in there own little way.

Thats true the gt looks better in person, its really unphotogenic actually lol
But brera is beautiful
brera looks stunning in person
Had my GT Cloverleaf for 3 years, it's been awesome and I still love driving it. I would rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW! ;)
are you a pisces ? :p
lol no I'm an Aquarius!
I know what you mean. Actually i have to say that I know what you feel :)
People who say Alfa's are unreliable either haven't owned one or have had a bad one. They are no less reliable now than any other brand. The GT is gorgeous and much more desirable than a a social conformist box like a BMW.
indeed Jason, i drive alfa for 25 years and i never had any problem with my cars
jason miller so much bullshit man
jason miller look on forums from people who are complaining about their alfa s reliabilty
jason miller my dad owns one and he recently with low milage and dealership maintected and still the gearbox broke down 2000 euro's futher
jason miller alfa s are good looking cars though
Actually you are wrong. Top Gear keeps jabbing about Alfas, but they actually love them.

Because the majority talk about the reliability of this brand without owning one.
16 years later, and Gt looks better and better, have a Gt 1.8ts and love it.
I just bought on
Is it a good choice ?
i have a ALFA ROMEO GT 1800 ts....its not so fast but on track race , its wonderfull, the brake , the stearind, the sound and the performance is great..........the driving trip to be relaxing, the style of those coupe is great..........i love this car,,,I would love to had turbo , but I have no problem..........

Oh yeah, I love all the TG boys' sense of humour, they're all different but at the same time they're all great and they compliment each other perfectly.
I've just started going to the TG website and reading their blogs, they're very good writers too, quite engaging.
Brilliant design, and been very reliable no problems at all.
Not a Pices but have had 30 Alfas. All of them wonderful experiences. OK, some of them more experience than others but loved them all.
The Alfa GT is the most beautiful car at the moment

Obviously, it doesn't mean that there is a 100% chance of every single Alfa to brake down, but the truth is, and I also talk of personal experience, he is absolutly right.
Capricorn and currently owning 156 V6, 156 GTA, 164 V6 Turbo. :)

I have drove a 164L V6 Automatic and I thought it was a nice car. I am looking forward to Alfa Romeo and FIAT selling cars in the U.S. again.
alfa is just a car sport & love not a simple machine
I agree that BMW turns great...But you'll find this turning satisfaction to the top range products (M3 etc) take the 116 for example...RWD but the steering is no compare to a Fwd alfa 156.

No problem in 100.000 Km with an Alfa GT!
I'm a pisces with an Alfa Romeo GT xD
No, I haven't had the opportunity to read any of the TG boys' stuff, think I'll have to look out for them though.
We used to have a huge shed a few years back when all of us were living at home, we each had our work areas in the shed and I always kept my stuff neat, tidy and categorised (eg different screws sorted out into little tubs whereas the boys would just have them all in one big jar), it was annoying when the boys couldn't find their own stuff so they'd "borrow" mine and never return it!
they are very reliable! i have this car!!!!! its freaking awesome! 240hp!
Same here got a GT on 100k miles. drives perfectly! my brothers got 2 alfa's aswell 147's and they are smooth! ALFA KICKS ASS :D
i sat in one the other day and it was beautiful
ive had one it was great, diesel but great
There (10 year old ones) reliable but not cheap to run, my first car was an Alfa 145 TS and its lucky it had charm that car.
Not only top range products, believe me. I have never driven 116, but I can assure you, that 316, 318 etc. are giving this "turning satisfaction" that you'll never find in alfa.
@alfistii1
i am not a german car fan per-say...we (my family) have owned 3 alfa's in the past decade...starting with the verry same you have, then we had the 2.4 jtd facelift and after that the 159 1.9 jtd, full spec...got it cheaper because it was a showroom, pre-registerd car in the dealership...we had that for a year, then swapped it for an E class (not an amg sadly) but an e class none the less
however my personal car is a 1993 land rover defender, but thats another subject
i'm a capricorn, and i love alfas! my next car will be a 159!
@215alessio Coming from an American here. I love love love my 1979 Alfa Romeo Spider. Super fun car to drive. It may not be the most fast car on the road, but it's just plain fun to drive. You all make great cars!

actually i reckon italy is probably one of the most well known countires for cars, is why the best sports cars come from there, alfaromeo have some fantastic cars so i duno wtf your on about.
Possono dire quello che vogliono ma la mia GT è grandiosa, ,,,ho pure modificato la centralina e aumentato il n° di cavalli ...va che è una bellezza!!!
@Maverickrad:
Mine 145 Quadrifoglio Verde had everything from bosch.
Only Magneti Marelli piece I remeber was front and rear wiper motor.
you have to remember these guys are driving cars most of us could never afford FOR A JOB!!! Ive got an old Alpha 156 that ive been thinking of selling for the last 2 years, but every time it passes its MOT i think "i'll keep her for another year...."
alfa sud was the first hot hatch , not the vw golf gti
i just wish it was rear wheel drive.
I'm a pisces.... Now I need a Alfa! I want one!
By the way, Clarkson loves the Lancia Integrale, but theres an Alfa version, the 155 Q4, and its better, and right hand drive
can any one tell me if i can get a 1989 164 in white or red in the usa? i really like the Alpha's!
Alfa romeo gt great car !!
@GrigioAeghio i've been using an audi 80 for almost 17 years and it's still going like a dream. how's that for reliability
great job!
Great car ! Forza Alfa Romeo
I think one brand has paid them of, to talk about alfa's problems. I have had a Alfa for about 15 years it didn't broke down once.
„All'Alfa sanno fare i guanti alle mosche.“
Enzo Ferrari ..... Io amo la mia Alfa GT
You bought it new or second hand?
alfas are more reliable than people make out,if they do brake down it is normaly electrical , the engines are superb
@waltibaba I know you extended it but it was pointless to do so. Who doesn't admit Alfas have shit reliablity in fact that's what makes them so special because if you can have one and for it to not go wrong for about 150,000 miles than you got it made. That's the beauty of it.

"all the pisceans would have been here, but their alfas broke down on the way."
Nonesensical and logical all at the same time. Gotta love his (warped) logic.
please bring alfa to america!
What is a Gemini supposed to drive?
I have a Hyundai genesis coupe. And I absolutely love it. But I would trade it off for a 159 gt at a heart beat. Problem is, it's quite impossible... T.T speciaelly when you're in America...
ahhh... I love Alfa
I'm a piscean and i like alfa romeos - i'd have a brera or a 157
I've driven in the 159 owned by my uncle.
