- The Top Gear trio's attempt to make their one thousand pound Alfas look good come hilariously unstuck as they line up on a race track against some speedy, and frankly, much more reliable cars!

Rule of Top Gear: If a host says "Edit" or "don't put that part in." It will be in the final cut no questions.
its all scripted
It's not scripted, they just goof around and act as they always do then they edit out the boring parts.
+13thSystem A lot of it is scripted, and rightly so - made it much more entertaining
tdc1991x Nope, the three just said what they wanted to and did what they want, it's why the new top gear sucks, because they're not as creative and funny as the old trio. The only thing scripted in top gear is their schedule.
13thSystem im guessing you haven't read 'on that bombshell' written by the SCRIPT EDITOR for TG where he says it's scripted, even all of the trips and falls.
The delivery on the ‘Alfa build a car to be as good as a car can be... briefly’ line is superb.
That is my favorite quote from this show, ever, and I had to spend an hour trying to find a clip of it.
As Clarkson would say elsewhere, "the pause is everything" 😁
My first car was an alfa its like that kid at school whos got some much potential but never tries hard
Just as bad as when he started? It doesn't start period
I just found out I'm an Alfa Romeo.
appelpower1 uhuh, im sure. Does everyone who fail tell themselves they had oh so much potential?
@@huleyn135 usually it's other people telling them that
My first two cars were an Alfa156 v6 and 916 GTV v6. I now own a Maserati Gransport 4.2 v8. I still miss both my alfas!
Theyre not kidding when they say Alfas have a certain 'magic'. The GTV for example just FELT so responsive and lively! The 156 v6 2.5 litre sounded AMAZING. Yes, the Maserati is obviously a much higher caliber car, but a car is a lot of things and Alfas give you this amazing feeling of being driver centric and, for their price, are amazing
4:19 ever noticed there’s a track map on James passenger seat for when he gets lost on the track
Even a lot of professional racing drivers have a track map in the car
The track their at there is my local race track
@@grzybowy1680 Yeah but we know why James needs it
@@grzybowy1680 ... Captn. Slow would need a map for an oval.

Alfa romeo lives as a man because has a heart.
Awful Romeo
And with ones of the best engines in the world xD both GTA series have an insanely powerful V6 biturbo which gives about 250 horsepower

Ahaha and the noise xD
One of the funniest things ever on top gear
"Brutus Hammond was out with a broken water pump, and soon it was the turn of Cassius May"
Pure poetry, I come back just to rewatch that part again over and over
I was laughing so hard at that too😂
"Feed the power through the long banked curve" *loses control and exits the track*
I wonder if that guy in the lambo purposely let Jeremy through to make him think that he got a point :-)
75 : im gonna pass you !

Statements like this shows the genius that was Top Gear. This is the kind of insight only car fanatics would understand and feel, brilliantly explained to the general public so they too can understand, but with a sly quip emphasizing how ridiculous the situation is. Because the world of cars IS often ridiculous and that's what makes it fun and special.

but the "M" in Romeo stands for "much other problems"
tbf, they didn't have a single electrical issue during this vid.
this why these guys made the most successful TV series in history
6:24 "Brutus Hammond..."
I lol'd.
Cassius may, tho. Brilliant
TheIceWarri
It refers to one of the men who conspired to kill Julius Caesar, Jeremy was "stabbed in the back" by the guys by overtaking him.
Et tu, Hammond...
Wouldn't that be ; l'dol?
5:24, Captain Slow comes into his element!
I owned an Alfa 166 with the busso v6 for 6 glorious years, 10 years later I still miss that car. Very reliable as long as it was looked after, be late with a service or go cheap on the oil and it would let you know it didn’t approve.
"it has the Alfa feel" *clunck* "something is very wrong here"
sounds like an Alfa to me.
"Its Alfas, they do things you are just not ready for " hahahah
"Jeremy, how you doing?"
"Not brilliantly."
*toppled car*
The tradition of bumping into May at every opportunity just cracks me up. The boys!
Alfa forever...as Jeremy said: You can't be a true petrolhead until you had an Alfa!
I'd rather not spend all my money on fixing the car all the time :c
You own a Volkswagen or a Bmw?! Cause in the workshop i work i get tired of seing Volkswagens and Bmws!
You change tires and brakes?

"It's Alfa's. They do things that you're just not ready for." - Jeremy Clarkson
A very useful quote for petrolheads... literally
My dearest Alfa Romeo,
~I love you now and forever always...
I only cared about their sporty variants , not their peasant types
2:56 WHAT GOES ON IN JEREMYS BRAIN. so I have an opportunity to crash into James May but I’m in a beaten down Alfa romeo in critical condition with a long rally stage and i will get black flagged. WORTH IT.
I tried to get a point by overtaking Captain Slow [crash]. Naturally, that got us black flagged, but at least I took full responsibility. *YOU turned in on me!*
_"Just overtaking you again, Jeremy."_
*SHUT UP, HAMMOND!*
The 75 (Jeremy's car) is now privately owned and fully road legal...
fully restored ?
Rasputin desirable ? Wat about the 75 Evoluzione
How?
Didn't Jezza used to own a GTV6?
@@keyboardwarrior327 an old friend of mine bought it from the BBC. It didn't need much work to make it road legal again and it still Clarkson's paint job. It has its own Facebook page. Search for "Minty the Top Gear Alfa".
I've had one Alfa, it was fantastic, fantastic to drive and awesome styling... never let me down... except for high maintenance costs (always had something that needed replacing)
The two happiest days of a persons life is when they buy an Alfa and when they sell it
Haven't sold and still not thinking about it
Not true at all
Absolutely true. However, Alfa stands for “always looking for another”
I sold my GTV and returned to Honda : D
Might be I wasn´t ready for italian reliability.
Clarkson did the same, even traded it for the same car lol
I own two cars a Honda Jazz and a Alfa Romeo Montreal and I will never get rid of my Montreal it's not the most reliable it's not the fastest but what it is, is pure italian magic and my car I know it I fix it and nothing is better for a gear head than that feeling when you are doing 120 on the highway in your car
ALFAS ARE SPECIAL AND RELIABLE WHEN YOU'RE AN ALFA ROMEO OWNER!
donte alexander thats whta Jeremy Clarkson said then it broke down hahahaha 0:42
0:42 BREAKDOWN!
aaaaaaaa
+donte alexander your drunk
+donte alexander Traditionaly Alfa are the best, copied by others, some owners are un able to look after them.
I've had an Alfa 145 for 14 years now, regularly driven at full speed (above 200 Km/h), ran 210.000 Km, spent all her life in the street, no major part was ever changed, not one breakdown or unexpected failure of any part. No noticeable rust except now for the exhaust system but then I visited seasides quite a lot too. Still as frisky as she used to be when new.
i own a 145 too, 150.000 km and it runs better than when it came out of the factory, it has been ridden hard its whole life and used on the track on various occasions and NOTHING broke down.
i could of gotten lucky with mine, or you could of gotten unlucky with yours, also you need to realise most of the things you named are things that have to be replaced on a regular basis on pretty much any car, like the leather or the lambda sensor, for example i did have to replace the lambda sensor once (cheap fix), i have an aftermarket exhaust so i cant say anything about the rust, my gearbox works well, the only leather that looks a little worn is the one on the steering wheel ( cheap fix), badges look good, dashboard lights look good, water pump never gave me any problems.
not every car is the same.
oh and i did have problems with my sideskirts but only because the roads here are shit and i damaged the mounting points after hitting some potholes pretty hard.
every car has its flaws, i am not saying it is perfect but it isnt unrealiable either.
It must be haunted
Where do you drive over 200 km/h ?
Friend of mine has al Giulia Junior 1600 from 1970'. First owned, 200 thousand miles. The thing has been rebuild twice and wen throught 4 engines. It spends about 6 months every year in the shop because it's broken, even thought everything, and I mean EVERYTHING has already been replaced. It's a curse really.
@3:30 gotta love when someone with a much more powerful car feels like playing with you.lol
I miss this show so much.
So well said. My car was an alfa. Its was so fun and classy and dynamic. Such a pleasure to drive. But ive never seen a car disintegrate without any exterior impact like it did! And the unearthly noises it would produce sometimes. Like "what in the world could that have been and can i make it home alive por favor?"
@Pixelparaszt corrected, i got too excited
Alphas always win
this has to be the one of the best challenges they ever done
Last January I bought an Alfa Romeo Giulia, I absolutely love it, but I'm not sure it's really an Alfa, because it seems to work

Jeremy had the same flywheel bearing problem in the GTV6 he had on the old Italian coupe challenge. The one, he himself, fix the problem by making a phone call 😂😂 and it does make sense as the 75 is basically a 4 door gtv6

I love how Top Gear uses the great escape soundtrack when they do something clever.
i realized when Jeremy tried to overtake James, he lost the left indicator, but at the 3:05 we can see, he also lost the right one
6:45 that shot of Clarkson in the Alfa just makes me laugh 😂
5:34 who the hell honks at a race? Hahahahahhahaha!
My first car was an alfa 156 with the lovely twin spark engine. Such a soulfull engine and such a lovely car to both drive and look at. Would not trade it for anything!
6:13 I love how Hamster gets so excited lol
Oh my god the brakes!! lol
3:34 when you think you're fast and then this happens
In the Spider, you only have to think of a corner to make it oversteer. It has a live rear axle, very little weight in the back, and therefore hardly any rear-wheel traction in corners.
My favorite of the three, given they were in good condition, would be the 75
I absolutely love the Top Gear rolling roadblock
Seeing that the cars range of 15 + years old I'm not surprised they all broke down, if you take any car to the track and beat the living piss out of them they all will brake down or have some sort of mechanical failure
That's absolutely untrue
If its even sort of looked after it wont. Then again i only have japanese cars... Perhaps thats the difference
tell that to the 106 rallye with 387 000 km sitting in my shed. barely requires oil to have a ton of fun in it on the weekends
@@Colt45hatchback Na ,the only cars left on the road that still rust ,and make you want to rip up your licence and get the bus ,they are that bland and boring

"that's the thing you have to remember. Alfa builds a car to be as good as a car can be... BRIEFLY" jajaja classic
Good points on an alfa: It looks beautiful, drives lovely and has a nice sound to it. Major bad points is the fact that you are pretty much screwed when it starts breaking down thick and fast
Really
It’s just how you maintain the car, if you have a little knowledge or you do every maintenance work they’ll run forever. My 3.0 V6 Alfa 75 reached in march 500.000 km, now aiming for 600.000. The problem with alfas is just that everyone expects them to be as good as bmws and Mercedes’ while treating them much worse. If you treat a bmw like you would treat an Alfa, it won’t even reach 100.000.
Judging British cars on reliability is unfair. It's like judging frenchmen for smelling.
'Till Hammond buggered off that is!
One of my favorite episodes.
6:38 The Stig!
I don't think Alfa ever managed to shake the reputation of the Alfa Sud, modern day Alfa's are brilliant cars.

As an Italian, I can say one thing, my father is a true “alfista” since the 60’s, Alfa Junior, GTV, Giulietta, Alfetta, 33 sw, 164.
I’ve always been on his cara since I was a baby.. the engine of a 2.0 v6 busso modified will deeply remains in my soul.
Everything they saying about problems is also true. I remember on garda lake’s highway in summer running at 200km/h in the 164 and the rearview mirror felt down because the glue that was keeping it up just did’n’t kept it. imagine this was a 65 millions Italians Lira at this moment.. probably comparable to a 45k € today. Anyway my friends still loves my father because when we were young they wanted to come in my father’s car because the émotions were strongers than they’re parents pussies Mercedes cdi
