Your videos are the best !! I’m 19 and got an 85 as my first project car last summer , your videos help greatly and are just what I need , appreciate you man !!
Good idea about using the textured paint under the finished color. Really enjoying the C4 videos. Famous last words working on a C4, it's going to be easy : )
Great vid! Did the same on my 86, except I went with powder coating. Oh and I cut the portion of the bolt that sticks out of the air pump made it easier for me, keep em coming!!
Interesting Chris. You did a great job. What patience you have. Murphy is alive and well. Anytime I try and do what seems to be a simple job it is just like what just happened to you. More work than it seems. You succeeded so good on you..patience is the virtue.
Thanks for documenting this project! The valve covers on mine are the worst part of my engine. Your video definitely helps with planning it out. I have a local powder coating company near me so I’m thinking about just removing the intake and valve covers and having them coated in a chrome finish. They specialize in coating headers so heat shouldn’t affect the finish. Thanks again!
Doing it for Dale! Keep up the good work Chris! Still looking for a 89 C4 to redo, going to paint it black with silver on the bottom with a 3 on the front license plate. Would like to put a SB2 NASCAR engine in it.
They look fantastic. But after realizing how much work it took just to get the driver side cover off. I would’ve said screw it. Yeah I give you a lot of credit for that. Keep the videos coming.
Chris, great job. However, I wouldn't recommend Krylon nor Rust-Oleum. When I use rattle cans, I use Sem products and I am very happy with the results I get with their products.
If it were me, without a doubt, I would NOT have it polished. I would use the same Paints and do it like the valve covers. The valve cover came out great!!!!! And everything would match. Great content, keep it up.
Fantastic job! I agree it is so satisfying to see it become new again. When you take off your intake manifold, it would be a good idea to inspect the lifters and camshaft lobes for wear. Easy to do while you are in there.
when that blisters and lifts, use paint stripper next time. takes a while but it works. ive never had a set last without baking them to get oil out of porosity and scrubbing with degreaser.
Well done! Is the texture paint high-heat, as well? What year is your Red C4? Seems we have slight differences, but perhaps over time, that happens. Ours is an ‘87.
You should try a silver sharpie marker Chris ...... kinda like your speaker covers you did with a black sharpie ; L0L Just a word of advice , don't cut corners especially on video.
How much time did you wait between the different types of paint? I went with the 30 minute drying time on the can and just had both coats flake off when I went to see if the texture coat was dry.
Whoa! The texture & paint color really make those valve covers pop! So do the new decals! But getting them off looks like a high-end pain. I’d probly try and do it the lazy way and mask everything off. I also like the idea of keeping the air intake original by just using the restored one you did. Amazing how much dark oil grunge had built up around the valves. Wonder if there’s a product that can clean the inside of the engine next oil change? Great C4 content as always Chris. You never disappoint! 😎👍🏻
awesome stuff. what about the underside where the gaskets sits? I just removed the driver side of mine and it was painted on the inside. not sure what to do, to sand down and leave the bare metal or to coat it?
After watching your video I searched for HIGH HEAT PRODUCTS (In the end, it's all about holding up to the heat) Hope this will help #1VHT Flameproof Coating Very High Heat Primer #2 VHT Sperex SP205 Wrinkle Plus High Temperature Coating, Aerosol Can, 11 Ounce Net Weight, Gray Color #3 Rust-Oleum High Heat Spray Paint Metallics|Silver Resist heat up to 1200 as the seymour is up to only 250 and the color is close! Thanks for the video / Note: I never used the wrinkle paint before and would practice 1st and maybe use a sponge to tap down until you get that great look.
Hey Chris! I am watching your tutorial in order to complete valve cover gasket replacement on my '87 and got stuck on driver side. The air pump bracket is still blocking me. What did you do in this case? Would appreciate your response. Thank you and big up for your great videos!
Nice job on the covers Chris. Do you find working on the C4 as satisfying as working on the C5? When i do an upgrade on my C5, I have as much fun documenting it than actually working on it. This spring I'm doing the carpet, sound/temp barrier, seats, gauge pod and will document it and post it. I feel this is therapeutic to my normal stressful day dealing with military jets.
Hi!, I need to do the same job, and I was looking for the Seymour Nickel paint, but I can't find it here in California, do you have a link to buy it?, thanks in advance!
Great stuff again Chris. That aluminum brightener works very well! Was that a NAPA product? Please keep these videos coming, I've learned so much. Stay well.
dont do that....use eagle 1 etching mag cleaner or an alternative “aluminum cleaner” or “aluminum brightner “. it will look like the day it came off the showroom floor.
Just got my 85 corvette two days ago!!! Watching and reading all that I can. New subbie!!!!😎🥰
How do you like your C4? Are you going to post any videos? I have a few video on my C4 here on youtube, if you ever run into any repairs.

Wow great job, that textured paint made all the difference.
Thanks
Great video Chris looks so much better great job 👍 I enjoy all your videos
Thanks
Looks good, nice job, I think I am going to do mine in a body color matching metallic Polo Green.
Pressure washer sand blaster is a great tool. No dust. Great results. Nice video Chris.
The coves look super! Adding the texture spray was brilliant! Everything you do, you make better, Chris. Keep on Truck'n! - Scott
Thanks
That is a thing of beauty Chris! Nice job!

L0L.....just pulling your Chain, keep the video's coming !
The valve covers are a pain especially on the passenger side with AC plus the air tube that goes over the valve cover on my 86.
Great video. The covers look great.
Thanks
@@mycorvettelife Well deserved!

It looks new Chris gorgeous superrrrrrrrrr.

Looks good Chris😎💯👍🏾

Very nice...

just checking back, i assume you have driven the car and given it a good heat soaking. did it blister or has the paint job held up? thnx.
Looks as good as it could..
Well done!

SeaFoam and Moble1 High Mileage oil.
awesome stuff.

I would leave it.
Hey Chris, how long does the paint last? Wont it just discolor again because of magnesium iron?
Really depends on how much you use the car, and how well you prepped and painted.
Really depends on how much you use the car, and how well you prepped and painted.
Wow, a lot more work than anyone would have thought. How did the inside of the valve cover look? That would tell the condition of any sludge buildup?
Very dark. I was able to clean some of it.

Nice job, looks great👍 Not to be nitpicking but I would have replaced the rubber pcv grommet instead of masking it off.
I tried getting it out and it wasn’t budging, so I figured it didn’t come out.
@@mycorvettelife Yeah, it got hard due to age.
Did you do any sanding
Where did you buy those new emblems? If you dont mind saying
Hey Chris ..awesome videos..when you restored the valve covers and intake manifold would you have sand blasted them if you had a sand blast cabinet ?
No

It was a fight for sure. I just kept working at it and finally got it out.

Absolutely!
Hey there Chris, just wondering where you got the new valve cover emblem from. I can't seem to find them anywhere. Great vids, very helpful !!
Mid America
Does this Valve colour have RAL code?
MUCH MUCH better looking Chris!! Sure was kind of a pain with what you had to do to get those valve covers off, huh?
Yep, thanks

Hi Chris, Great video. Where did you buy the emblem for the valve cover? I miss this on my brand new 1990 C4. All the best from Denmark.
Mid-America
Great stuff again Chris. That aluminum brightener works very well! Was that a NAPA product? Please keep these videos coming, I've learned so much. Stay well.
Yes, NAPA.
How to fix speedometor on 96 corvette
Me: No way he can restore this
Corvette Life: Hold my 🔧
🤣
Love and hate your c4
It’s like watching my todo list. But I’m behind, way way behind you 😂
Thanks
Man I was thinking about doing the same thing but I don't know if I want to go through all the work...🤔🤔🤔
Worth it.
Man I may have to buckle down and do it man I kinda want to do the intake too.
👍
👍
Keep it original. Don't polish the intake.
Just paint the intake the same color as valve covers.

Smog pump delete
Those valve covers turned that pinkish color because someone used engine degreaser to clean the engine compartment.
No they turned that color because they are magnesium. All L98 valve covers eventually do that.
