I've pulled the plenum out twice on my '90. The second time, I jacked up the car and took the front wheels off. MUCH, MUCH EASIER TO WORK ON. The work is elevated so there is less bending over. Your back will thank you. Nice job. Good description and video. Well done, sir.
Asking for a huge favor thanks to your videos I have successfully got the intake back on. I forgot to take pictures of electrical plug and play for the motor up front. Is it possible to get pics or make a video on plug ends and where they go for the intake and front of the motor? Your videos are great keep them coming.
Very informative and well narrated. I plan on pulling off my TPI intake manifold to clean and paint it. Appreciate your candor about the complexity. I will be taking many pictures and labeling all hardware to insure everything goes back as it should.
Right on. You do good work. These are probably delayed posting but I'd be pulling the intake manifold and hitting it with the eagle 1 etching cleaner (aluminum cleaner) and doing those gaskets. Its all reallllly inexpensive. From there you have resealed pretty much everything that typically goes. Good work!
I'm glad you said it! I was thinking....I'd never remember how all that goes back together! :) I live vicariously through you as I'd never try anything like this on my own. Great Video!
Regarding the oil pressure sending unit replacement, you will need to remove the windshield wiper motor, then use a plumber's basin wrench to remove and install the sensor. It's a bit time consuming but easy as well. Good luck Chris!
I would not skip replacing the gaskets between the intake and the heads & block. It will slowly leak oil at the front and back were the intake sits on the block. The RTV gets hard and brittle when old.
The L98 is quite the beast to work on . It's getting more difficult to find a mechanic willing to work on one and for what they charge by the hour it's a killer . Thanks for sharing this valuable information with us .
TOP TIP for all you viewers: take a small metal saw and cut a small groove into the heads of the srews of the distributor cap, so you can use a flat head screwdriver to tighten them. Makes removing the distributor cap soooo much easier in the future.
Hi My Corvette Life, I hope you are well; Can you let me know how difficult it was to get the bottom runner bolts out of the engine? Seems I tried in the past on my 91 and they were seized on there pretty good; Did you have to use heat? Thanks.
Quick question, do you disconnect the battery for this? I have to replace my egr valve and I have to take the plenum off but I dont know if I should disconnect the battery or not..
Has anyone ever tried to rout the throttle & TV cables under the runner tubes? Always looks so out of place & cluttered. If I ever get my health back, its one of the things I want to try on my 87 Vette that's been in storage for many years......😭
If you want to see how I did my 1987 Corvette with a new block, all internals new and using the L-98 top end this is an old video I did after the build with a few photos of the engine prior to adding Hooker Competition long tube header's. With a Comp Cam and much more, having enlarged the ports on the Plenum & the Runner's (port matched) and so much more check my video out; ruclips.net/video/dbkusVwmjac/видео.html
I believe it was T45, but do yourself a favor and get a full Torx bit set of toy plan on doing anything more than changing the oil. This car has Torx all over it.
I ended up replacing the torx bolts for the runners/plenum with nickle plated allen bolts with washers. I hate torx and they can strip off. Also the nice thing about allen bolts is I found it nearly impossible to remove the lower torx bolts on the runners. With the allen bolts, I can use a long shafted allen socket that is rounded on the end. So I can hit the lower bolts at an angle.
@@colt5189 I put high dollar 3/8 bolts for the brand new Edelbrock manifold with steet demon 625 ,racing red Distributor, fuel cell, external Holley FP.I've had this C4 for nearly 20 years, and probably the best running Vette out of 7.R.M

I'm about to put a new intake and injectors on my 86...that's a great idea!

I took my 89' apart over a year ago and work got in the way which made me forget how to put anything back, but these videos have helped so much!
Finally in 2021 a proper and clear video of this process. Much Thanks!
Amazed at your calm patience! Thanks for filming, the camera work is awesome!

I bought a 1989 corvette that was taken apart and im trying to get the vacuum line and wires straitened out. Your videos really help
Love a video when I can’t sleep. Hello from Missouri.
Same
👍
Love a video in the morning! Hello from Fort Wayne Indiana.
So cool! I wish I had seen your video before I did all this . Had to figure it all out by myself and it took forever !
Hey on the L98, do the throttle body coolant bypass now while you have that apart. You will gain cooler intake temps = bump in hp. Highly recommended.

Great video Chris, I learned a lot with this process on my C4 1987😎💯👍🏾🔥

great video, very clearly and well explained
it’s always better to watch a tutorial before starting to work on your car
Fantastic video. Thanks much!

That was the least difficult part IMO. A ratchet with an extension and a 1/4” socket works fine.
Great detailed video
Some great tips thank you
Paint it to match the value covers.
Great video as alway!
Excellent video. Thank you for this!
Try a crows foot on the oil pressure sending unit.
1/2" sockets are typically longer than the 3/8 drive sockets and might do the job.
i have a 1985 corvette i have to find 24lbs 35psi can you help thank you please reply
That socket you can find it at Harbor freight!!
I’ll check!

Not very hard if you have the right tools. No heat.
Saludos de puerto Rico tengo un c4 del 90 tiene un falló nadie lo sabe que puede ser necesecito tu ayuda

What year is your C4
Done every step why wont my plemun move its never removed from factory help
Will you be painting the intake manifold and its runners the same way you did the valve covers?
No. Bare aluminum.
You know where i can get a new oil fill cap for an 87'?
Quick question, do you disconnect the battery for this? I have to replace my egr valve and I have to take the plenum off but I dont know if I should disconnect the battery or not..
Yes

thank you gonna fix wifes c4 now
Keep saying intake manifold but it’s a plenum not manifold
You didn't show where all the bolts were
What’s the removal video. I showed every detail.
Don't paint, powder coat same color as the car.
First ?
