@BikerLicious yes, pretty much any photographic SLR lens will work on the adapter. We use a 17mm, which isnt as wide as a Fisheye field of view, but it was still pretty wide and it still had plenty of room for even wider lenses. Since the EnCinema Lens adapter is made with the Canon EOS mount, it can also be converted very easily to accept most other photo lens mount types, like Nikon Lenses, Minolta, Pentax, Praktika, etc.
The adapter was around way before the DSLRs became video capable. And the iPhone had functions that proper cameras dont have, like being able to edit and upload content right away. We know its not for everyone, but we also know that proper cameras have a different look than this combination has. In the end its just a fun way to shoot all for around the same price or less than most camera kits.
@TheCreativeJournal we use the Almost DSLR app for all filming when combined with the adapter. Even though it only has 720p settings in the app it still recorded the video in full 1080p. Hopefully they'll have an update for that if not already. The Almost DSLR app makers are great!
@DepthPersuasion Thanks, actually to use EF mount or any photographic lenses on the OWLE you will need to use the EnCinema Lens Adapter. Since it's made with the Canon EOS (EF and EF-S) mount, it can also be converted very easily to accept most other lens mount types, like Nikon Lenses, Minolta, Pentax, Praktika, etc.
What we do is remove the front optic from the OWLE or mCAM wide angle filter lens (just the front optical glass by unscrew the screw ring) and this will give you a lot better edge to edge brightness as well as cutting back on some of the crop factor giving you a slightly wider field of view.
@ChristianFS1 The company that makes the mCAM (previously known as the OWLE) are planning to make the unit for other devices. So when thats made, then you can possibly mount the EnCinema to your device.
It depends on which lens you use. The iPhone seems to have a 28mm to 35mm field of view. So if you use a 50mm lens then it will be a little closer. But you can also use zoom lenses like the 24-70mm so you'll have the option to go wider and tighter.
@ditoarch06 Since the adapter is made with the Canon EOS mount, it is the only mount type that can be converted to most other lens types, giving you many options. That's very good in case you come across a good deal on any particular type of lens. You'll simply need converter rings like: Nikon to EOS, Minolta to EOS, Pentax to EOS, etc. These can be found on ebay or other shops for a few dollars. 90% of our videos are filmed with a Canon EF 50mm f1.8 or a Nikon 50mm f1.8 lens.
@mrgeo20 Actually we rendered using a lower bit rate in the same h264 codec as the original footage, so in a way this version is downgraded a bit from the original source file. We simply boosted the contrast levels in post and added a bit of saturation, but thats it. The 50mm Canon lens and the EnCinema adapter did the rest to give it that look.
@viergarcia I know, some of those wide angle filter can be stubborn. Some people have been buying a spare wide angle filter lens and removing the front glass (with force via a hammer or whatnot) and keeping one for regular use and the other (with optic removed) for adapter use.
Yes, I think with the help of Macro Close up filters, those cameras should work. And using the filters helps lessen vignetting as well as brighten the image, so it may end up with a good result. But we really have not tested those specific cameras ourselves.
Thanks for your interest in our adapter. I'm sorry to say that our adapter does not work with the Panasonic TM series cameras. It seems that these cameras are not able to macro focus so closely on the ground glass within our adapter. We've tried a combination of macro filters and other tricks, but have yet to come up with proper solution. If you have another DV or HD camera please let us know. Thanks again.
Actually there is no automatic iris or aperture control. If needed, you can use a lens with a manual aperture ring, but its recommended to use fast speed aperture lenses in the f1.2 to f2.8 range and allow the recording device to adjust the aperture or shutter speed (iphone or DV/HD camera). This allows the cleanest brightest image to be projected on to the ground glass focusing screen in the adapter.
@marlenedegrood We use the tip of a small flat head screw driver at an angle. Its not perfect but it works on some of the wide angle filter lenses. Some people have bought an extra one online for $20 and smashed out the glass.
@lonsdaleadidas you can purchase the OWLE or mCAM as well as the EnCinema Adapter from our Vid-Atlantic website directly and other resellers. The 50mm EF lens can be found for aprx $100 online or almost any camera shop.
@viergarcia Have you tried to remove the front optic out of the wide angle OWLE lens? Massive vignette killer and gives you a wider field of view as well. Its a huge difference. Leave the OWLE wide angle lens on, but unscrew just the wide angle glass optic out...it can be tricky, but well worth it if you're trying to lessen vignetting.
Thanks a million for the tip. Only problem now is I can't get the damn ring to budge to get the front lens out. Man, if it's not one problem it's another, haha.
@VidAtlantic Thanks, for the quick reply. That makes sense. I was looking to use this with the Zeiss CP.2 series of lenses. If you are able to demo any CP.2 lens would very much look forward to it.
OK this is the first footage taken using one of these 35mm adapters that is actually quite impressive. I'm tempted. Will it fit a Panasonic TM-900 (thread size 46mm)?
Thanks for this demo, it does helps to see the potential of the iPhone in combo with the SLR lens. So would the Owle be compatible with any lens with an EF mount?
Okay, I just had to smash the shit outta the lens to get it out. I actually smashed it with a hammer and it didn't even leave a mark at first. (To think, I was so paranoid about anything even touching it before). But now that the wide angle lens is out, it totally eliminated the vignetting. Great tip!
I currently use the iPhone 4, and am very annoyed with how much vignetting is produced (otherwise a great setup). Have you found that the iPhone 4s, with it's larger lens, reduces the amount of vignette around the frame?
It's more about the fact of being able to shoot, edit and upload from your phone while still having selective focus and shallow depth of field. We doubt most people are using the logic you've quoted above. No DSLRs can do what an iPhone along with apps are doing right now...at least not yet.
I assume the video quality is mostly in the render settings though? A lens can't make the raw footage look THAT incredible. Any render tips to make the videos look better?
why cant i have this on me Samsung galaxy s2/3 !!!!! you need to make a one fits all kit !! after all android phones are like 2-3 new ones every day :P
In the apps called FilmicPro, Almost DSLR and some others you can lock the focus. You can also rotate the image, expose the image and other features. Hope this helps.
Haha, the EF lens adapter... for those who look at their DSLR setup and think to themselves "how can I get a MUCH lower quality picture in every way, but retain the sheer bulk of a large lens? Oh, and I have way too much money, around 250 dollars too much I'd say." Such an odd idea...

I absolutely love the Canon lens. Still got it. Nice shots you did.

@VidAtlantic Thanks for the info, I also hope that "Almost DSLR" app makers update it too.
@lonsdaleadidas Yes, iPhone 4S, but the iPhone 3G, 3GS and iPhone 4 as well as iPod Touch will work just fine too.
@mrgeo20 Actually we rendered using a lower bit rate in the same h264 codec as the original footage, so in a way this version is downgraded a bit from the original source file. yes 28mm and 35mm are good portrait lenses.

@VidAtlantic Well, that product is incredible. I will definitely be checking it out!
holy crap thats freaking awesome
@SidneyBriarIsAlive thanks, its a song that our production team produced in house.
Is there anyway we could get hold of this song?, i really like it :)
OK this is the first footage taken using one of these 35mm adapters that is actually quite impressive. I'm tempted. Will it fit a Panasonic TM-900 (thread size 46mm)?

I love my OWLE Bubo and EnCinema SLR Lens Adapter! Question are you using the "Almost DSLR" app or just shooting right from the iPhone 4S?
Okay, I just had to smash the shit outta the lens to get it out. I actually smashed it with a hammer and it didn't even leave a mark at first. (To think, I was so paranoid about anything even touching it before). But now that the wide angle lens is out, it totally eliminated the vignetting. Great tip!
yeah its kinda blurry in the edges of the objects,
i think its because of the 8MP camera though...
beautiful

So, If i want to take a pic of myself, It's better to use 28mm to 35mm right?
impressive
Hi, I would like to ask you something! When you put the lens on, does the object gets closer or do we have to zoom in?
could it possibly work on say, a desire z/tmobile g2 ? :)
If I want to take a pic of myself, 28mm to 35mm is ok right?
I assume the video quality is mostly in the render settings though? A lens can't make the raw footage look THAT incredible. Any render tips to make the videos look better?
It`s a pity. What about Panasonic HC-X800/X900/X900M (49 mm)?
@VidAtlantic :) from where can i buy these lens ? that you have used in this video
Nice!
Nice shots. Whats the name of the song?
How did you avoid vignetting?
wow awesome!!!!
we can connect anykind of SLR lense with this adapter?
\m/_
@Comfytees Which lens converter do you have?
Well done
Fraeaken iPhones :D they're dominating in everything!!! Watch your own food turn into an app in an instant!! xD
How do you control the aperture on the lens??
why cant i have this on me Samsung galaxy s2/3 !!!!! you need to make a one fits all kit !! after all android phones are like 2-3 new ones every day :P
this is taken with iphone :O?
Nicee
this is real?.. testimonial pls..
Hello, how did you handle the focus? you lock the focus in the Iphone? or you have problems with the auto focus of the iphone?
In the apps called FilmicPro, Almost DSLR and some others you can lock the focus. You can also rotate the image, expose the image and other features. Hope this helps.

@Alif1089 yes it is real check our site vid-atlantic (dot) com
Moar footage please!!!!
