Panasonic LUMIX S1H (2 Years Later) : Still Relevant In 2022?

- After spending some time getting to know the Panasonic LUMIX GH6 not long after its release, the LUMIX S1H really resembles most of the GH6 but with some full-frame benefits. But is it still relevant as a daily driver in 2022?

Fellow S1H user here… 5:35 it is a rotating ring lol 😂 I use it all the time to change my iso lol. It’s both butting and a rotating wheel.
Thats odd. Would've figured it to be a rotating ring if it were hahah
Yes the S1H is still relevant. Been using the S series for 3 years, NEVER had a single issue. The colors are amazing, especially S1H compared to the S1 since it has OLPF and varicam style skin tones. Can't wait for the next S series cameras. All the cameras that came after the S1H offer nothing impressive besides higher frame rates (Only the C70 made me reconsider). If they manage to create a S2H with rolling shutter below 10ms, that camera will be an instant success.
GH6 is great too, but I prefer the BGH1, I have multiple of them and the form factor is better to m4/3 work like live stream etc.
Agreed. I pick up my S1H more than A7S iii. The image and skin tones are better.
Glad to meet a fellow Panasonic user! Only just started getting familiar with the platform and sad to hear most enthusiasts/professionals who've never even seen one up close before.
Had some feedback from some users experiencing overheating issues on long-form video though. Have you faced that sort of thing before with the S1H?
@@kilikdudley True that. Feels more natural to grade as well. Have you ever tried the S5?
@@TECH360TV love the S5, best value in cameraland I think. Same image as S1H without the OLPF. The GH6 would have been a bigger splash, but the S5 was already better and smaller
@@kilikdudley true that. Loved the GH6 but was a tad slower when it came to getting it to start rolling on time. Always seem to have a delay after hitting record.
Didnt have any issues with the S5. Stay tuned for the full review coming soon! And thanks for watching :D
What a beast.
Is the smearing/ghosting issues in S1H when using vlog been fixed already? or its still an issue
Not quite sure what you're referring to. What do you mean by smearing/ghosting?
That had been fixed over 2 years ago
So how’s this compared to s5 and gh6? I’m a c70 user but I’m heavily leaning toward switching to Panasonic
The S5 is a better hybrid camera and is more suitable for run 'n gun. The S1H is bigger in size and pretty much a less-refurbished-full-frame version of the GH6.
C70 might have a better advantage if Im honest and has far superior autofocus. Contrast AF is just not consistent enough
@@TECH360TV Thank You, Im not truly focused on autofocus honestly. I can get around that. I mostly want a rock solid image and great IBIS. those are my two main desires.
@@jaysnappsmediallc6680 Then yeah this could be a great option. But if you want a better image, BMPCC 6K Pro could be an alternative. It's slightly cheaper too.
But of course, it's not geared for hybrid usage. You'd have to really rig it out to get the most out of it.
@@TECH360TV Nah, I miss that ibis
For most "normal" people a camera of this stature has to be relevant for more than two years, I have the S5. I had to save and plan for my purchase as I do for my lenses. It's amazing to me how many youtube creators act as though the field of professional photography is some new burgeoning field, when it comes down to it most people who own gear do not necessarily make a living from it.
Yup totally agree that not everyone who owns gear makes a profession out of them. But we can only relate to a profession that helps us share the information we've learned to an audience of enthusiasts and professionals alike.
We all started at the enthusiast level at some point before it became a means of living. As far as I'm concerned, its an obsession which works both ways 😅Thanks for watching!
As a headphone wearer, this is tough to watch with the swoosh audio transition, much less, so loud. Your content is what we're here for, and that's what I tried to enjoy. The effects are such a distraction, that I couldn't finish. Sorry.🙁
Thanks for your feedback. Will pay more attention to audio next time.
Even now, this camera is overkill for most videographers. Just saying, there's a smaller amount of people who are in situations (high paying ones) where a high framrate, high bit rate , high resolution , raw capable camera is really needed. The S1H and all the cameras that have come after it would all be great to have , but I don't think we really need them.
Agreed. Cameras are just a tool. 😄
hows the autofocus on ef lenses?
didn't get to try with EF lenses. Either way, if it doesn't function as well with native lenses, most likely it would be a tad slower.
There is no continuous autofocus using the adapter
@@tangibleplanetvisualmedia1138 yea figured so
S1H II coming
When... What Specs.?
I don’t see anybody selling these yet 😢😢😢
You can visit Panasonic Lumix' website to find out information for where you might be able to get this. Should be a few distributors around your area.
@@TECH360TV I mean, I have not seen any on the used market. Everyone who bought them is still using it.
@@JeffBourke oh right. Yeah it's a workhorse for sure. Should be able to find some on ebay
@@TECH360TV none on aus eBay but I just bought an FX30 so that’s my camera budget done for a little while anyway.
So is this better than the GH6?
Not quite. GH6 is just more up-to-date with Apple ProRes and improved Contrast AF. But if you plan to rig out your camera, then yeah S1H is a beast.
@@TECH360TV I want a camera that won’t overheat if I leave it recording 1hour in the same spot(church purposes), and I go with my other camera to take pictures.
I will also use the camera that I will record church work for the entire wedding etc. in other words should I go with the GH6?
@@royaltykidstv Yes go with the GH6. It has unlimited recording and manages heat very well with a built-in fan.
Major difference between the S1H and GH6 is the sensor size. Full-frame / APS-C.
Just depends what lenses you own and what you're willing to invest in.
APS-C lenses has a wider range of choices too compared to Panasonic's L-Mount
@@TECH360TV If I need the GH6 for Weddings what lens would you recommend?
@@royaltykidstv I'd recommend a 16-35, and 70-200 range. Many lens brands are available. If you dont mind second-hand lenses, then vintage lenses would be an option too but you'll lose out on AF. You can check out the link below for reference.
