Thank you for your time making this video, I clicked "like" but honestly it felt quite weird to watch... mainly the presenter sitting opposite felt like a little daughter done something really bad at school and her daddy was telling her off... Also most of the questions she was asking felt a lot robotic and not really natural. I meant the way she was asking these question... the video didn't feel interactive or fun to watch... Sorry but this is how it felt.
Question: If you can "mirror" your sounds on the VST does that mean you can take any controller keyboard and run it through say, Mainstage and have the sounds available? Being able to have the show set up in both worlds would allow for fly gigs without worrying about TSA destroying the Montage. Currently I have a Kronos and this is where it falls down. Nothing exists in VST format that allows easy transfer of sounds to the Mac for use on the road.
Great instrument and informative video! Will you share the type of mic stand you’re using at the end while the host is performing her original song? Thanks
He mentioned CS-80 which was still superior in some ways to this. The CS-80 had a long ribbon controller like on the Hydrasynth. IMO they should have put a long ribbon and a CS-80 model inside so you could do the Bladerunner type of sounds authentically. And it has not sample and groocebox and chord making tools like the Fantom, definitely needs that sort of thing.
I'm pretty sure 99.9% of people picking up a Montage don't care for Bladerunner, especially the ones wanting the 88-key version, and I can tell you that a noticeable number of them may even be haters of electronica, too. Nevertheless, there's just enough folks interested in synthesizer sounds that Yamaha threw in the ANX VA engine just to entice synth lovers, but they'll never go all the way for CS80 enthusiasts.
Just hook it up to Cherry Audio's GX-80 and you've got both CS-80 and GS-1. I'm both a huge Yamaha fan (had Motif XS8, Montage 8 and now Montage M8x) and Vangelis fan (particularly Bladerunner/Chariots of Fire era) and the Cherry synths are fire.
Blake is absolutely OK. This machine has so many possibilities and settings that music making comes to second place if you ask me. Machines like these are becoming too complicated for most musicians!
I used to "hate" commentors who would come into threads on forums or comment sections on YT saying they rather have a midi-controller and VSTs. Well, I have become that guy. For 4k, I'm expecting a lot more than these flagship synths and workstations offer. The technology exists for these boards to be much more capable and better sounding, and they give us boring upgrades each time they release a new flagship.
Hi great video...how do you use the FC7 expression pedal to control voices assigned to it ..e.g im using a piano on fader #1...strings on fader #2 how do i get control the strings only but can still use the faders to adjust the levels ? When i try it ,ut does not work what am i missing smh
Here's hoping the MODX+ gets the AN-X through a firmware upgrade down the road as has been rumored. I'd just replace the mainboard in my MODX with the MODX+ mainboard and flash the firmware goodness.
I was hoping to see how the new features like portamento mono/poly works. This was pretty much like Montage. I wish you could spend more time and not rushing this demo as it was really a weak demonstration.
FROM A BEAT MAKER/PRODUCER PERSPECTIVE: I tried it out at Guitar Center and it was underwhelming (for me). I'm a multi-timbral producer on an MPC and it's no different than the MODX in that regard. In multi mode, the "Super Knob" doesn't work, only the filters, same as MODX, there's DRASTIC volume levels when combing thru sounds, same as MODX. If you're a live player or a sound designer, go for it but only if you don't have a Montage or MODX already. Oh, the workflow has changed a bit too. If you're trying to be a hitmaker, just take the sounds from it and keep it moving. If you're trying to score film, make packs, perform live and be complex, this is for you.
Ross: "Wait a second while I go get my helicopter sounds." Montage guy: "Oh, those are in this board, as well as 10 million other sounds that you'll never use." Me: Waiting on the price to drop like a rock on the used market after folks who bought this thing new realize how much they paid for what they got. Her: Pretending like she's interested in those buzzy 80's/90's sounds while thinking, "I'm getting _paid_ to do this!" (Everything can't be "Jump.") In Yamaha's defense: FSX (and FS before that) keybed in the 61/76 versions (NOT the 88-key version, which _nobody_ needs) are at least the equal of the best keybeds ever produced. THAT would probably be one of the main reasons I might want to acquire one of these M's. If it's not inviting to play, then all bets are off, like a guitar with horrible action. Korg, for example, really dropped the ball when they discontinued using that Yamaha-produced keybed after the Oasys (all the way back to the M1). The Nautilus (Korg's current "flagship" workstation) keybed is like something out of The Dollar Store. Awful! What a way to ruin a synth! And...the stuff you're _really_ interested in (as a non sound designer) Yamaha does/has done a stellar job with. Nobody's complained about how crappy their boards sound.
@@X22GJPyeah exactly.... Perhaps even a Nautilus PAT that doesn't take over 2 minutes to boot up! 🤣 Bloody ridiculous for their top of the line workstation in 2023..... And I've been a Korg fan for decades and I'm criticising them lol.
It seems to me that this upgraded version is more akin to an enhanced MODX rather than an upgraded Montage. The previous Montage had a fuller and superior sound. Yamaha may have made compromises to keep costs low with this new release. I'm still frustrated that they discontinued the original Montage so quickly, only to introduce this inferior model. The initial excitement surrounding this new release will fade soon. I question how practical these new and improved sounds will be in real-life playing situations. Some of the enhancements were intended for studio use, but there are already superior virtual instruments available that could rival these upgraded voices. Personally, I'm keeping my fingers crossed and will consider purchasing a used Montage classic instead of this "improvised" version.
I disagree. I think this version sounds better with more features and new sounds. I personally prefer to buy this one than the original. The improvements look great.
I have a completely different opinion. The original Montage had a flawed DAC that had way too much treble, particularly through a PA, and pianos in particular were too artificial sounding. The Motif sounds better! I’m hopeful that the new DAC / analog output in the Montage M will make it sound much better than the original Montage.
Bad Mister does a better job showcasing these Montages. Blake’s old, boring & bland now. This Montage sounds the same as all the other keyboards in its class. Nothing special. It looks just like a Roland Fantom. Boring! Where’s the White versions?
The girl here "hosting" this video is blankly looking at Blake describing the new Montage M and she's saying, "whaaaa.......???" "Duh....?"
Loved your live ‘low-fi” tune at video end! ❤
It's insane how talented she is.
Are we able to transfer our custom presets from the MODX to the Montage M8?x

She's terrible. Everything about her was unnatural.
Question.
Is the FMx in the new montage identical to the old montage?
Blake Angelos demonstration is great Yamaha Montages M8X Favorite
How many seconds is the boot time? Thanx
3days 12.68 hours
less than 30 seconds
18 seconds, just a second more than the original.
Shorter than Kronos.
The sound seems to be improved...man yamaha beats again everyone...i m a motif user...i think its time. To bring home the nu member..
Does the SEQUENCER on the *Montage M* have all or most of the features seen on the MOTIF XF?
I think the Motif XF8 is still a beast
what will we use as the 9th drawbar
I am unable to use DAW Remote function in my Cubase 13 please help me how to connect
Does it have a function that is always in recording mode in case you get inspired and record everything? Like FL Studio 21 has?
Audition mode in the 16 track sequencer.
Rehearse mode,

Sucks to only have poly after touch on the 88 keys and not on the 76keys version 😢

M8X for only 1000 $ it's really a bargain !. Thanks Yama !.
The first patch is 👌 CS80 ish due to the poly AT.
You will not get the same in M6 or M7
