Today, July 3, 2014, You are my Hero. I have used my laptop with the busted screen for 2 years as a desktop. Someone brought me a laptop today they had dissasembled (like "Johnny 5") and thanks to your video I was able to replace my screen without having to buy one. Thanks! keep up the good work!
My toshiba satellite screen cracked, and thank to this video I was able to replace the screen 12 minutes ago. I ordered the new screen yesterday in the morning and got it today and just replaced it. It only costed me around 60 bucks, I am so happy that I did not have to take it to a computer shop which would had charged me around 300. Thank you for posting this video. Now, I have to be more careful with my laptop among other electric devices. Once again, Thank You :)
Jason, thank you so much showing all of us out in cyber world how to replace a broken screen. I was quoted over $200.00 dollars for repair by a computer repair biz in Beckley, WV. What a ripoff almost as bad as auto repair shops. I now use youtube for watching videos to do my on repairs.. Again thank you for sharing, Rich Ferreira...
Thank you so much for this video. I broke my screen this morning doing something stupid. I decided to see if anyone had a video on replacing screen because it's not worth paying that much money for someone else to repair an older machine. You make it look simple enough that even i am willing to try and replacing mine. Again thanks. I am going to order my screen soon and attempt to repair mine.
Was just browsing trying to find something and happened to accidently find your clip. Excellent, intuitive and well put together. Well done from over the pond on the North East coast, England, UK.
Thank you so much for this video it was very helpful. I broke my laptop almost 2 months ago and almost had to pay $200 for somebody to repair it. I saved alot of money from this. Thank you once again.
thank you so much. light fixture fell on my screen and i couldn't afford the $$$$ fix at computer stores. followed your video with a $50 screen from amazon. works like new!
Thanks for the video. I had a similar model, but close enough that this video helped me. My only recommendation is to mention the fact that the connector has to be pushed all the way in(on my first attempt I hadn't pushed it all the way in and only got a black, backlit screen upon reboot) I was over cautious on my first attempt, knowing that the connector is extremely fragile. My second attempt, I realized that it wasn't snapped in place. Worked perfectly after that. Made comment with fixed PC.
Thanks, my son has a Toshiba Satellite C55-B5296 Notebook that has a similar cracked screen. This gave me the confidence to give it a shot and get this fixed myself.
Thank you very much ^.^ I was very nervous about what the cost would be to fix the bleed on my screen, but now I'm very confident I can fix it on my own :)
Thanks so much for uploading this vid!! I punched my screen the other day (like a dumbass) and broke it after the second punch and my parents flipped out when I showed it to them and on top of that I pissed off my sister because the computer was a gift from her
Now your parents shouldn't be mad if the laptop started the fight... at least you had the guts to finish it. Just don't go and kick the toasters ass for no reason. :)
I actually typed my part number once I had it in at the Amazon.com search bar and dozens of sellers came up...I found the dealer with the highest feedback and the best price and had my screen in no time from a very decent dealer. My new screen came double boxed and in perfect condition as seen in the video. Hope that helps. - Jase
Yes I would suggest taking out the old cracked screen first that way you will have your exact part number you need to replace your screen no matter what make or brand of laptop you have. Please remember I'm not a computer guru or repairman. I'm a home health nurse... I can understand and deal with people who are broken more then I can with electronic equipment, but this honestly is a super easy fix. Just take a little time and patience and you will be surprised of what you can do. Thanks Jase
Thankyou so much for this video, I have exactly same laptop but mine says its a c660/C660d mode land ive had mine for about 3 years now and I'm in love with it not once has it ever failed on me and I'm heart broken now its cracked! I'm sure to use when I'm reparing mine :,) x
I love mine too. Still use it daily. I'm glad this video can help you and its exactly why I made it. There are literally hundreds of things that we can fix around the house without paying outrageous prices for repairs and so called specialists. I recently replaced the heating elements in my water heater for $40 compared to paying a plumber over $300 for the same repair. Good luck on your repair and take care! Jase
Jason Marshall yeahhh that's true people just look at it and thing no I can't do that, but if you sat down thought about it maybe they could fix it, awhhh thank you got awhile to sort it out witch is good x
freespeechordeath691 Ohhh dear I was meant to fix my laptop ages I completely forgot about that ohh dear I can't throw mine out tho I've got millions of photos on there of family n all so it's a bit different d
jamie mason hey that's worth keeping fam bam photos are no joke and cant be replaced.good on u for being so thoughtful but then again U HAVENT CHAGED AT ALL. U SWEET GIRL YOU. HAHA mine just needed its history deleted. I had no idea about deleting history. glad I didn't throw it out the window xD hope you got to save those pics unto another 1
Jason I have the exact same laptop and need to replace the screen .I have found a number of them but how do I pick the correct one ? Any help would be appreciated Doug
When you say plug in from the left or right , do you mean from the front prospective of looking at the laptop or the back? And will do the sellers say left or right ? I have a similar laptop which i broke which wasnt myn . This is going to save me a load of money , thanks
I was able to connect my pc to the TV and use the TV as my output for now until I get my new scree. The pc screen does not come on till now. I hope it will be okay when I pot in the new screen eventually. I have been using my pc with the TV as my output. Thanks for your help.
correct me if i am wrong although you unplugged the 40 pin connector from the right side of the computer......when you pull the screen out and flip it uprite (it looked upside down as you looked at it in the computer)that is the determiner of it being actually a left side connection...just want to be clear.. other than that. ty. good vid.
wow that looks so easy. I dropped my Toshiba Satellite C850-1CO this morning and the screen is covered in lines both switched on and off so I'm guessing the screen needs replacing. The screws are under the little caps like they are on your model. Do you think the part inside with the connection would be basically the same? As you may be able to tell I don't know a lot about computers at all, just how to use one! Thanks
Three screwdriver? A small set like I have?? All you need is a small screwdriver with a philips head. You should be able to find one anywhere as a small kit...Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Target, Lowes, Home Depot - where ever. Thank I'm glad it helped. The whole reason I posted it.
Hey :) I just used ur video to replace my screen on my toshiba satellite 15´6'' and its working :) so ty very much ur video was a great help. My process was not as swift as urs tho it took me 1½ hour and i broke the two "threads(?)" which holds the screws of the besel in the buttom, idk how they broke, i was very careful, do u have any tips to how i do avoid that if i need to replace a screen in the future? also i can't get the besel to click back in where the "toshiba" logo is something might have broken there to i figure. Even tho those 2 things broke it is still WAY better that the screen works as perfectly as it does now i just need to be a little more careful when i close it :) so ty again. - Jeanette
Hi Jason, This really was an amazing video! Thank you for showing this! I am in the same boat now. I have a Toshiba Satellite C55t-A Laptop. It is a touch screen and had recently got cracked. You by any chance wouldn't have any advice on how to replace the screen on that model would you? Any help or advice you could possibly give would of great help. Thank you one again for showing this video!
Not exactly sure on your model but it should be fairly similar. All these laptops have the outer plastic bezel which usually has 4-6 small screws and then you can unsnap the bezel open. Then you should find the metal thin frame which again will have about 4 screws holding the actual screen in place. Everything else should be the same as in my video. Thanks again for the kind words and good luck on your repair! Take care ~ Jase
Best Buy doesn't sells just parts like that they wanted hundreds to fix mine cause I called their geek squad at first when it happened. I found out the part only went for $50-$60 and realized I could save myself $250 by working on and doing it myself. The video is living proof that a lay person can do something a 'tech' would charge close to $300 for basically changing a computers version of a light bulb. For me being a male nurse that works 48 hours a week to support my family that's too much.
if i became a high level tech person i would only charge cost of screen + £35 and shipping both ways would be free, man's got to make a profit but i would fix it as soon as i had the parts and get it delivered back asap because i know how important computers are to people.
Quick question: I also have a Toshiba laptop, however yours is a Satellite but mine is a Satellite Pro. Is there any kind of difference that would affect my screen changing process?
Hey James Marshall, My daughter broke my laptop screen and i took to a computer repair store and they want to charge me 50$ to look at it then 250$ to order the screen and for the labor 300$ so i just told them to forget it. I saw your video and it look easy and i was wondering if you can help me find the right screen part to my laptop HP dv7-6b78us i know the screen size is a 17" but im asking for your help! thanks
you talked about an arc cable if the connector is on the wrong side? I have been looking around and I can not find anything. I am using an old screen off of a Dell laptop and it works, but since the connection is on the wrong side I can not make it fit.
Matthew - some of the same places that sell screens will sell the pin arc connector...again Im not an expert but have seen those connectors when I was shopping for my screen, bit that was awhile ago. Take care - Jase
My brother's screen is bleeding purple, like yours. My parents don't know, so do they have those screens at a physical store you can go to like...Best Buy, etc.
i should be doing this in Sept cant wait but i should deffinately remove the cracked screen first right its a satalite c655d s5518 and then my bfs is hard to open and close what replacement do i need for that
so I don't have screws on the side of my replacement screen and I can't seem to get the replacement screen to sit still. bezel won't go back on correctly.
Hello Jason, Please I like to ask you a question. I have a broken laptop. I had not ordered for the part but I had to open it up to see where the computer connects to, left or right and also to know the inches of the screen as I understood that it is written at the back like LTN156AT24....This made me know it is a 1.56 inch screen. It is a Toshiba satellite L850D-12P. It is connected to the bottom left just like the one you used in this video. After getting these info from the back of the screen after removing the bezel, I tried to couple everything back since I do not yet have the new screen I needed so I could still be using the broken screen until I order and receive the new screen. To my surprise, the laptop refuse to come on. When I replaced the battery and powered it on, there were the 3 usual light indications on the keyboard area but the monitor had no light on it. The screen was still dark as if the computer was off. I do not know why this happened. I wonder if there is a contact problem somewhere. The only screws I removed was the four holding the bezel and the four holding the back case with the screen. I did not remove any connections. Please do you have an idea what could have gone wrong? I still need to use my pc before I receive my new one. I would be so glad if I can get a reply from you. That would be awesome. Thank you so much. Anyone out there that could help me with the question should do please because I am desperate for help. Thanks guys!
If you have no indications lights the laptop is on from the body of the laptop (not just the screen) I would try to power up using the laptops power cord as your power source. As long as you have the pin strip plugged in correctly and the power is on you should see power to the screen even if it's cracked. Hope that helps you out some and good luck replacing your screen. Wishing you all the best! ~ Jase
Thanks a lot for your reply. I powered the laptop with the power cord plugged to the socket and the battery in place and still the screen light did not come on. I did not get to the extent of removing the pins strip at the back because I did not need to since I was only checking for info and had not ordered for my screen. I started regretting why I opened it in the first place because the computer has been working perfectly until I opened it. But how else would I had known the inch of the screen and whether it connects to the left or right? I do not know if the screen light will come on if I eventually get the new one. Oh dear! I'm missing my computer. What did I do wrong. The only thing I noticed is that the connection for the webcam at the top of the computer was not in place. I then aligned it and pushed it into the position before fixing back the bezel. Could that have been where the loss of contact is? I wonder.
No it's the same procedure either way. Just make sure your have your correct part number when you order your screen. It's a simple fix which includes just unscrewing some screws unplugging then remove and reverse to install. Great way to save yourself $200 to $350. Thanks for watching. Jase
He did actually show that. However he didn't mention the wires that are there so be careful with how far you extend the keyboard area from the screen Area. You don't want to pull wires.
When they replaced your screen there is a good chance they may have pull that monitor wire out to far which has the slave wire that connects to the webcam...so they may have unplugged your web cam by mistake. Like I was saying in my video you have to be careful of that wire that leads to the webcam because it is extremely easy to dislodge it or unplug it. Hope that helps fix your problem. Which BTW way is to follow all the steps of this video to get to the webcam wire and check it's connection.
i too have toshiba laptop model L655-1H3, My screen has a vertical line on it . i have gone through your video but cant find the screws on the screen as it is for your laptop. can you provide your details so that you can repair my laptop... i live in australia melbourne.
The screws are under the little circle caps and rubber bumpers on my model. I wouldn't know your model number of your paticular screen (part number you need) without opening the housing and seeing the back of your screen. I'm not a repairman I'm just a regular guy - the whole reason for the video, to show the lay person...you can do repairs yourself and save yourself major some jing.
I ordered my new screen, installed it, it came on but had several lines through it. So I reconnected the pin because I thought it wasn't connected well, and now my computer won't even boot up. I am confused, and feeling defeated! Any suggestions?
Good for you! Now I know you're British, which means you have more class then we do here in America, but this is where you need to call Toshiba UK and tell them to "SUCK IT!" Cheers - Jase
I looked up how to replace a toshiba satellite screen and you just so happened to same exactly size and model as mine. I'll have to favorite this so that I have the time to find a screen
if you cant repair due to address problem so could you just let me know what will be my screen model number is and how should i mention on amazon that i need the plug in to be right hand side .... please reply soon
Can you please help me? How to fix webcam on toshiba satellite pro L300? I had my screen damaged and i gave it to fix. And when i brought my laptop back my webcam stopped working. Please help me how to fix my webcam and yes i have got webcam driver, but it always says that "please fix you webcam and try again".
Look at my earlier replies I give link to the exact screen. I bought my part online at Amazon.com. All you have to do is click the link. Hope that helps.
Look on the screen that's still there. You have to open the computer like he did and it should say on the back of the screen on a sticker, then type the number into Amazon's search area .
I have a toshiba..I removed the LCD scree, now I'm on amazon.com to order new screen, the back of my screen model # is LP156WH4 TL A1. The replacement have a yellow strip down right side..my screen does not have that, the screen on amazon that seems to macth mines is: LG LP156WH2(TL)(QB) Replacement LAPTOP LCD SCREEN 15.6" WXGA HD LED backlight (or compatible screen like LP156WH4 (TL)(A1) ). Can I order this one because it does not have the yellow strip..please advise I need to order asap. Ty
Not sure why it wouldn't boot....when changing the screen that is really all you are doing. You aren't messing with the core of the system. In fact while my screen was busted I could still hook up my laptop to my TV via the VGA 15 pin connector, so I could still answer emails and do my side business on Evilbay...I mean eBay. Because even though my screen was fried as seen in the start of my video the hard drive and core was fine. Plus Toshiba does have impact hard drives to prevent such damage.
i just smashed my screen on the same laptop and ordering from the toshiba parts dealer is 130 bucks plus shipping, where u able to find on on Amazon cheaper? id rather fix it myself then pay someone to do it. theyd prolly charge the the same about i bought it for to fix it.
Exactly...people really don't give themselves enough credit. You will be surprised at what you can do. all it takes is a little know how and a belief in yourself you can do it.
The C675-S7200 is your computers model number.... the Part number you need is B173RW01....the Amazon link you need is amazon.com/AU-OPTRONICS-B173RW01-CONNECTOR-compatible/dp/B004MA3FN8 .....Hope that helps. Jase
I honestly can't remember the seller but it was off of Amazon.com if you look at my earlier replies I believe I posted a link. When looking at a dealer check their feedback, and go with someone who has had good reviews, as to the screen, yes still working like a champ. Use the laptop daily with zero problems. Take care ~ Jase
+Jason Marshall awesome!! I just bought one for around $60. I've already removed the damaged one from your instructions. You are awesome and saved me money and the stress of relying on an overpriced repair shop
+Jason Marshall I have a question. So I replaced the screen and all is good except that now I'm unable to find and wireless network connections. Any idea how to fix this issue. I reopened the screen and believe the wire is on the side of the screen but nothing seems out of place except a little metal magnet square thing did fall out when I was replacing the screen. Any clue? I don't know where that metal magnet thing even came from. That's the only thing I can think of that may be impacting my network connection. Wireless light is on (yellow) but says "no connection found"
Extremely helpful. I just completed a screen replacement following the instructions contained here, which were perfect. Saved several hundred dollars. Replacement screen available via Amazon.com. Thanks!!
Probably you misshandle the computer, you may have knocked it and damaged something inside or there is a cable loosed inside, also, computers are extremely sensitive to static, you may have burned some parts by touching them ungrounded....
A nurse by trade, just happen to find out what things are actually called before making the video...I didn't think saying do-hickey and thing-ama-bob would help anyone. :)

Thx for video. I really helped.
How will I know if it is the right replacement screen. Mine is a Toshiba 15.6" screen?
Quick question:
I also have a Toshiba laptop, however yours is a Satellite but mine is a Satellite Pro.
Is there any kind of difference that would affect my screen changing process?
This will Be VERY helpful thx
Thanks Jason!
Hey James Marshall, My daughter broke my laptop screen and i took to a computer repair store and they want to charge me 50$ to look at it then 250$ to order the screen and for the labor 300$ so i just told them to forget it. I saw your video and it look easy and i was wondering if you can help me find the right screen part to my laptop HP dv7-6b78us i know the screen size is a 17" but im asking for your help! thanks
Great video, but I found it easier if you remove the screws in the hinges so the screen and back are separate
you talked about an arc cable if the connector is on the wrong side? I have been looking around and I can not find anything.
I am using an old screen off of a Dell laptop and it works, but since the connection is on the wrong side I can not make it fit.
Matthew - some of the same places that sell screens will sell the pin arc connector...again Im not an expert but have seen those connectors when I was shopping for my screen, bit that was awhile ago. Take care - Jase
thank you Jason
My brother's screen is bleeding purple, like yours. My parents don't know, so do they have those screens at a physical store you can go to like...Best Buy, etc.
i should be doing this in Sept cant wait but i should deffinately remove the cracked screen first right its a satalite c655d s5518 and then my bfs is hard to open and close what replacement do i need for that
so I don't have screws on the side of my replacement screen and I can't seem to get the replacement screen to sit still. bezel won't go back on correctly.
Sir do you have video for unrecognize flash drive.. is my usb port has a defect?
I wonder.
thanks for showing this
Thank you!
Thanks for this.
No it's the same procedure either way. Just make sure your have your correct part number when you order your screen. It's a simple fix which includes just unscrewing some screws unplugging then remove and reverse to install. Great way to save yourself $200 to $350. Thanks for watching. Jase
Jason A 9..5/10 deducted point because hinge/lid cover brackets? removal was not shown
He did actually show that.
Toshiba UK quoted me £360 for this repair, more than the laptop cost! For £42 I did it myself.
Good for you! Now I know you're British, which means you have more class then we do here in America, but this is where you need to call Toshiba UK and tell them to "SUCK IT!" Cheers - Jase
Thanks, Agree totally. They did offer a new laptop for the same price I paid for the "old" one. The old one is 4 months old!

What type of screwdriver are you using?
Just a small Phillips screwdriver. A cheap set I picked up at Wally-World.
Cathy fantastic sorry for not getting back to you sooner if you need any help once you get your screen give me a hollar! Jase
Will this work on new toshiba laptops?
I imagine it would, as long as the set up is the same.
How do I find part # for the screen?
Look on the screen that's still there. You have to open the computer like he did and it should say on the back of the screen on a sticker, then type the number into Amazon's search area .
+drac464 thanks
Sandra great if you need any help just let me know. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Jase
my web cam is connected to the screen at the top so how do i remove that?
I have a toshiba..I removed the LCD scree, now I'm on amazon.com to order new screen, the back of my screen model # is LP156WH4 TL A1. The replacement have a yellow strip down right side..my screen does not have that, the screen on amazon that seems to macth mines is: LG LP156WH2(TL)(QB) Replacement LAPTOP LCD SCREEN 15.6" WXGA HD LED backlight (or compatible screen like LP156WH4 (TL)(A1) ). Can I order this one because it does not have the yellow strip..please advise I need to order asap. Ty
how much it will cost to fix it plz
Thank god!!
Made me blush!!!! - Jase
Wow wee I'm going to try it I've nothing to loose
Exactly...people really don't give themselves enough credit. You will be surprised at what you can do. all it takes is a little know how and a belief in yourself you can do it.
The C675-S7200 is your computers model number.... the Part number you need is B173RW01....the Amazon link you need is
amazon.com/AU-OPTRONICS-B173RW01-CONNECTOR-compatible/dp/B004MA3FN8 .....Hope that helps. Jase
I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to help you with that - I haven't had that problem.
mine just stop working and it looked like that it like frozed up
Breanna Siner I opened mine up and i heard a crack so i turned it on and its this crack, im scared because my parents just bought it
Who is the reputable seller and is your screen still working?
A 40 pin connector, anchor screws, a Bezell? What kind of layman are you?
A nurse by trade, just happen to find out what things are actually called before making the video...I didn't think saying do-hickey and thing-ama-bob would help anyone. :)
