Top man Dave - sorry to hear about the oil leak...........had a few of those and it aint fun lol...... thanks so much for putting this togther, great to see you advocating and showing the importance of up traces for any beginners. Majority of my Pike fishing is float ledger from the boat or bank ( just love to watch the floats) so always ineteresting to see how others approach this method ......I like to use minimum 3ft bleeding wire uprtace with the 1oz inline lead running on it. I did try egg sinkers but the rivers with flow the egg sinkers just kept rolling in the current so I stick with the square leads. PS in 20 odd years of Piking you must be the most organised Piker I know in terms of tackle to hand etc. :-) Keep up the amazing videos - they are fantastic.
Great info dave and i agree, using a drifter float is a great method for covering a lot of water eficeantly, im amazed at how many pike anglers are reluctant to use them. I also use an old 12' 2 .50 t/c fibreglass rod as i find it easear to flick out a bit of slack to star the float travelling and its my lucky rod. Tight lines fella.
Dave brilliant tips I have used your tips witch are very effective mate cheers keep them coming and to those who leave tackle in baits shame on use cheers Dave
Great video as always your leads should attract some pike to your bait now that they have been soaked. Did i see a small bottle of champagne on your shelf
Thanks for all that. Never used a drifter float , but your explanation may have tempted me to give it a go! I do use a big 8 inch sea float for dead bait ledgering and have found that fishing it about a foot or so over depth lets it lie flat on the surface of the water and the slightest nudge by the pike gives a nice moving and rippling indication. Just out of interest ,have you ever used one of the big catfish type floats for pike? Cheers again.
@@DavidScobie Thanks for the reply , that has given me two experiments to try over the winter , drifter float and big catfish float for big deadbaits, provided we dont all get locked in the house in Scotland by wee Nicola, that is . Cheers bud.
Ive got some of Eddie's vanes buddy I'm just going through the stocks of the fox ones first. I'm amazed mor folk don't use drifter floats especially when they are in a boat
Hey John the swivels on that video I think were 80lb class swivels made by AFW I tend to use the 80lb to 130lb for the bait fishing rigs not that a Pike would snap them more so its easier to work with a swivel that sort of size with wrecked hands. If you go to Eddie Turners tackle shop on line there's a link to the swivels I use:- www.eddieturner.co.uk/pike-tackle/Rig-Bits/-Ball-Bearing-Swivels-265.html
We do it because we're most likely mentally sick in the head it's like when I bivvied up in the Highlands and woke up to near a ft of snow did I go home? Nope. I stayed another 3 nights and near died of the cold hahaha
