Fluency is the ability to speak smoothly, continuously and at an effective speed. You don't always have to stop to think of the right word.
In this lesson we learn how to effectively use 'fillers' when you speak and how using synonyms, opposites and related vocabulary gives continuity to your speech.

When you say 'she's thinking of what to say, rather than how to say it' is spot on. I teach English in Indonesia and frequently use exactly the same expression to build students' confidence and let them know that pauses and fillers are a part of natural English speaking. .

very nice presentation upon the topic. I struggled before with a misunderstanding about speaking English fluently.
Speaking fast or faster does not mean that you made yourself clear and understandable. The key to passing the test with a satisfactory score is to master the conversation with confidence to demonstrate the points without doubts or ambiguities.
    Good luck.

to be honest even I don't know, but these were my practices
    1) I quit speaking in my native language 2 weeks before, talk to everyone around in English even though they didn't
    2) I thought of abstract topics like describe my room, watch, favourite sport, city, things like these and spoke on that topic for two minutes. I recorded it over my phone and listened so I knew where I was going wrong
I hope these tips help, but I think I have also been lucky

I liked this - smoothness of one's speech.
I would I could speak smooth English.
Hey, perhaps I can - the secret is just to really avoid talking like hurried New Yorkers (I have doubts whether they themselves are able to understand what they say).

A new book/ebook: "What Foreigners Need To Know About America From A To Z: How to understand crazy American culture, people, government, business, language and more.” Endorsed worldwide by ambassadors, educators, and editors, it paints a revealing picture of complex America to help those who will benefit from a better understanding, including international students. It also has chapters that identify the most common English grammar and speech problems foreigners have. Good luck to all!

You know I use fillers on internet so I speak ok and people could understand me easily, but in real life I am terrible terrible. Feeling shy many times I start stuttering even I feel I hold my breath. Oh my God you know it is really embarrassing. Always tell myself just take your breath and you will be ok and you will talk easily, but no way. I don't know really what I should do. I come from lectures embarrassed and feeling miserable because I spoke fast making lots of mistakes.

According to this definition less than 1% of all native English speakers would ever pass this test. Even worse on teens, absolutely no teenager would ever pass this test.
