In this week's video I show how the 350 Gallon Paludarium is doing now. We talk about the good, bad, and how it got to this point. Let me know what you think of the progress!
I wouldn't get too worked up about the black ghost knife, they are a touchy fish. When things go wrong with that species, they go really wrong and it's hard to bring them back to healthy once it gets that way.
triops live for like a month though right? I know their life cycle is based around diapause but.... wouldn't the biomass on a tank full of continually reproducing animals that generally have to wait multiple seasons if not years before the next generation hatches overload it?
@@stevenpatrickmilton1248 yes it would need to be a tank with low biomass, and it would need to be dried after each month for new eggs to hatch (pretty much a desert biome). There are other species though that I think may live in different biomes with a different life cycle, but I'm pretty sure every species would need a dry period for the eggs to hatch.
@@markwilson4686 in my opinion, i think triops can hatch in water i think it doesn't matter if their dry or wet i think when its the dry season when they're ready to hatch they wait for the water to comeback to hatch. Or when they're underwater if the triops eggs are ready to hatch they'll come out immediately. they can live in both dry or wet season, when dry season they can survive both the hot and freezing temperatures bcause of they're egg sac layers. And when they on their egg sac on the dry or freezing they hybernate and wait for the water to comeback. So i think thats why triops cannot hatch in dry/freezing seasons bcause the egg sac is hard, so when the eggsac become wet i think it will soften i think? I think thats why they hatch when its underwater (sorry im bad at english)
Columnairis bacteria is an absolute beast to treat, and most of the time it is fatal. The fact you got him better from it the first time was amazing Tanner, and it is NOT your fault he got sick. BGKs are one of the few species that the stores compost more than sell in my area because they are so susceptible to things like that.
I’m so sorry to hear about your black ghost knife fish ❤️ I lost my dream fish too in the same year that I finally got them. It was a huge blow. I haven’t gotten new fish since then. I transitioning more to terrariums and potted plants. The rest of the fish I have will live out their lives with me but I think after that I’ll need a break from fish. I love them so much but they can be so fragile at times. Glad you’re keeping on keeping on. Love all the fish and plants you show
When I was about 7-8 I LOVED helping my brother with his 2 aquariums so I was extremely happy when I got my own beautiful blue betta for my birthday. I named him Sam and every day after school I would just watch him for hours on end. One day my mum decided that she didn't want 3 fishtanks (probably because although I absolutely loved him, I wasn't really keeping up with cleaning Sam's tank), so decided to put Sam in with the other fish in one of the other tanks. I was very upset because I loved having my own fish. It got even worse the next day when I realised that Sam had died in that tank during the night. I was inconsolable for days and ever since I've wanted to get a fish just like Sam.
It makes me feel better that even your calathea seem to have crispy tips lol. Sorry it’s just those plants are so picky! I swear they want to be dripping in moisture, but never actually wet. Beautiful plants, but they always end up crispy around the edges from some condition or another that’s bothering them. Love to see how big the leaves get in your setup! And of course, the whole thing is amazing. Top notch 👌
Calathea are all very sensitive to tap water and added chemicals of any kind. They love rain water and distilled water. But out of all the varieties, my rattlesnake calathea adapted to tap the best.
@@saraira oh my lol. I have a gazillion houseplants but I haven’t gotten into orchids. I have one keiki I got as a gift for donating to an orchid club this summer but it hasn’t grown much since. Not even sure what type it is 😅 I’ve got it in a glass dome with an air hole. I lost the lower most leaf after I was away for a week but other than that, no browning or crispiness
At the aquatics store where I work we've had some of our larger fish for over a year because they are full sized and people are always so intimidated. We get so attached to them and recently sold a Dovii pair that we had fallen in love with after almost a year with us. We were so excited when we found a home for them with someone who told us about his set up and seemed a great fit. He got a huge discount because we wanted them to be loved an appreciated in a home. Then we got a phone call the NEXT DAY that they had passed away because he had lied 100% about his tank's size and age and HE was furious at US for selling him "sick fish". They were in perfect condition and even laying eggs when we said goodbye to them. We all cried that day and he was banned from the store for harassment. We still can't bear to stock their tank with anything else. There are way more happy endings for our long-term residents than sad ones but that one really hurt. Those blacktail hemiodus are gorgeous and I'm so happy to hear that they have such an amazing home after such a long time in the store.
Wow, literally describes retail perfectly: customer does something wrong, blames it on everyone but themselves because "tHe CuStOmEr Is AlWaYs RiGhT." I'm so glad you banned that POS lmao
Kinda sus, I wonder if the guy resold them to another unsuspecting customer at a higher price (arbitrage via getting it at a discount from you), then he tried to call back for a discount to maximize his potential profit.
most people just get fish that look more "exotic", meaning bright colours and all that but tbh i prefer fish that look more "earthly" and dont stand out much.

It's great to see a long term update like this. It's always great seeing things set up but seeing how they are doing months or a year later is informative, especially talking about things like maintenance and any surprises (good or bad) along the way. Such a cool setup!

You're such a kind man your tenderness towards animals is wonderful to see. By the way someone treats animals shows others their character and you sir have a good character. :)
Thank you for talking about the fish you lost. I just lost a fish this past week and it really helped to hear you verbalize feelings that mirror my own.
Black ghost knife fish are susceptible to fungal infections as they are scales like loaches Since it constantly got it, it could be a bad immune system genetics Also damn the 350 has really looks great
Sad to hear about your knife, they're amazing fish. Unfortunately, they stress easy and being scaleless they're susceptible to a lot of different maladies. Don't blame yourself, it probably wasn't you. More than likely it was residual and made worse by shipping and transport stress. Thanks for the update, was wondering about this beautiful monster. I'm so sorry for your loss, Tanner, I know how much that fish meant to you, and I know you tried your best for him. Please don't think it's your fault, those fish are very delicate. Thank you so much for bringing us into your home, and allowing us to connect with your animals. 🌱🤍 Rest in Paradise sweet fishy. 🌈

Thank you for sharing, this keeps it real and lets us know that experience lose too. I love all the things you create and i live vicariously through you because I dont have room to have anything but one day its going to happen!
This is now my favorite!!! It's just amazingly beautiful in the camera... 0:37 , 1:00 it have some angle where the glass boundary line disappear as it was covered by the huge leaves & waterline just faded in the shadows of the plants. It felt like there is no front glass & the fishes are just flying in the room beneath the plants!!!
Just spectacular. I'm sorry about any life passing, but glad there are people like you that sincerely care. First time for me watching and just beautiful tank with amazing life. I have a thirty-gallon tank with two goldfish but take such good care of them and the tank and got them only as little 'feeder' goldfish but years later and they're big now. All the plants in the house get the same love and care with some that are very old. Thanks.
I'm so sorry for your loss, I love black ghost knife fish as well. I know it was in great hands with you Tanner so please don't blame yourself. The animal room is looking stunning and particularly that tank! I would love to see you run some kind of conservatory for fish and amphibians. It's like you already do. :)
I just love your energy. Your emotions and feelings, they're so enjoyable to watch them displayed in everyone of your builds. You have so much kindness in you. Keep it up. You're pretty amazing.
I love to watch your videos and enjoy all your aquariums/terrariums. When I see all the work involved, I realise that this is a full-time passion, and not just a decorative thing to be bought at the store and installed in the living room. I will just keep on watching your beautiful videos and caring for my own houseplants ... that way, no beautiful fish will suffer neglect from me! Many thanks for sharing.
If you can see my face I am Amazed!!!That aquarium is really, really , really nice!!!! Those plants are going to grow alot and get fuller it's gonna be heavenly. Thank you for sharing that beauty with us,see ya.🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Could you guys imagine him with his own zoo. Just have the first floor be an aquarium and at the top you can see some plants and when you get up it's a whole forest..... ik my guy will make sure there will be enough moss to go around
I love how you have compassion and love for the fish, I have people tell me all the time that they are just fish I can get a dozen more from the pet shop, but they arent just fish, they have personalities, and are living creatures worthy of respect and kindness. I have guppies cuz I love the colors, they are enjoyable to watch. I dont know of anyone else who is a fish person, let alone any other women who enjoy keeping them and know a decent bit about how to care for them, so Im on my own. Thanks for showing us your awesome set up, Im inspired to try when I have the extra money.
Sad to hear about your knifefish, but try to not beat yourself up mate, these things happen sometimes. And because you had them in a quarenteen tank, if it was a fungal infection or something like that, you probably saved some of your other fish in the main tank!! You're a hero!
I like that you are honest with your failures as well as your successes. You put your heart and soul into these beautiful displays of plants and animals so it makes sense that you would be disappointed when you have a loss, But,hey, there is so much here to enjoy and “wow” over. Thanks so much!
I'd love to see you use an elephant nose fish on one of your projects. I had one in my youth and it was surprisingly people friendly. Would come up and rub against my fingers whenever I was near the tank.
Thank you for expressing your mourning for your black knife. My favorite blue betta got really bloated and then had a gnarly cyst. I feel really bad and i think it's because my heater wasn't keeping up and his water got a bit cold and stressed him out. I didn't act quick enough because he's been super healthy. I think he's healing quickly now because he's so healthy in general. Anyway, I appreciate you expressing your emotion on losing a fish you loved. It helps me process my remorse for my mistakes.
Your videos literally kept me alive I used your videos as an outlet to keep me from having panic attacks I’ve had a lot happening in my life and your videos have helped like non other I really appreciate your content and thank you from the bottom of my ❤️
Beautiful. Half exect to hear David Attenborough narrating in a mangove sequence. Touching how much you obviously feel for your fish too. If only everyone cared for their animals in such a way.
I just found your channel and I have been watching everything. From years ago, recent. All of it. I never thought I would be so interested but I love the way you explain everything and the connections you have with your animals. Thanks for showing me all the amazing things about this hobby and I can’t wait to see what you have in store for the new year!
Aww I’m so sorry to hear about your knifefish!!! Don’t feel bad, you are one of the most careful, thoughtful and experienced aquascaper/herptile keeper and I couldn’t see how you could have avoided the incident. You took every precaution and made sure he grew to a safe size but it was just not meant to be. So happy you got Maxwell I think he’s a lovely addition to the paludarium
Black ghost knifefish are my all time fave too! They're so personable and cute and super weird and I adore them! I'm so sorry that he passed...he was precious
I’m so glad I found this Chanel, this guy is so talented and humble and knowledgeable. Explains things very well, executes things beautifully, you deserve so much more. Thank you for making these videos!
Stunning tank. It’s so relaxing to watch. I had a BGKF called Casper for over 15 years. He was 2” when I adopted him and 18” when he passed. Gorgeous fish and very friendly. I hand fed him all sorts of food. I’ve also kept African KF but the Ghost variety are mesmerising.
Tanner, you are such an incredibly talented and informative human being with a good soul! I am so sorry to hear about the passing! Everything happens for a reason. You can feel the sorrow of your loss, but with that loss came the gain of a fish who needed your care ! I love how the tank is looking a year later! Very nice! Calethea white star is my favourite! I am currently dealing with some spider mites of from orange trees I few from seeds, I had them outside for a few months and brought them in not thinking. Two days later… boom… my white star was huge and on the brink of death!! Anywho, love to videos. Love your work. Keep it up Tanner! Looking forward to the next! I love this guy so much : he’s easy to watch and fascinating to listen to with his warm velvety voice - He fascinates me , Yeah I love this guy he’s taught me so much about his hobby .
I appreciate you and your videos so much! You are so creative and thoughtful with your designs and it is amazing that you put so much energy into sharing all of it with us. Thank you so much for your transparency and generosity!
It's sad when something goes wrong. Don't beat yourself up too much. I would be more upset if you had not been so actively trying to help him get better and it was dead because of neglect. Even with the best intentions and knowledge you can sometimes come up short in knowing what's wrong with a pet. Animals a complex and sensitive. Good job getting everyone happy and healthy in the tank and the plant life popping!
great quality videos man, I can feel your passion for all things terrarium/aquarium/paludarium. your dialogue/scripting is all great, i could feel your emotion about the fish left in the store for months. well edited and your shots are well chosen, im impressed as hell by this random aquarium channel. will be watching your stuff again.
This is my favourite tank by far. Would you be able to do a long video just watching the tank? I'd love to watch your fish for a while every night before going to bed.
Dude you rock! Being connected to our fish is a real deal and I totally am sorry for the passing of your Black Knife Fish. God bless your Brown Knife fish and aquarium life. You did your best man! Your aquarium has turned on nicely and maintained so well. Good job my friend!
"To be clear, I did not tell them who I was"!......, I love ❤ it Tanner, I've never heard you ego-blast yourself in the slightest. I like it, well deserved & overdue mate.
Oh man, what an amazing set up! I love it! Those serpae tetras though.... I really like them but I really don't know how the long fins still exist. I've never seen any that aren't completely shredded. Of course that's what is going to happen when 200 of them are in 30 gallons (or less) at a pet store. With all the room in that tank maybe their fins will grow out. It might be the first time I've ever seen some decent ones. If at some point I have the money I am definitely doing some like this!
I love you also talking about the things that went wrong! Makes everyone think they’re not incapable and maybe pushes them to try out themselves the things you do, me included
wow i can't believe its been a year already! i remember it like it was yesterday waiting for you to finish building this beast! great job mate its looking amazing still
Dude that tank is Amazing!!!!! Best part is the dimly lite water with rays of light coming through. Reminds me of one of the best show tanks at an aquarium!!!! So peaceful so beautiful so cool! Love your tanks man!
I'm so sorry about the loss of your black ghost knifefish ☹️ you're one of the few people that I've ever even heard mention them, as soon as I seen one the first time it instantly became my favorite fish, and a bucket list fish for me as well. I currently have no fish tank, I hope to change that soon, but I do have a crested gecko, and alot of my inspiration for the tank I'm beginning to work on has come from you. I think you do a really amazing job with all your projects, plants and pets for sure. I honestly don't think it was anything you did, you take very good care of that tank from what I saw in the video. keep up the good work 🥰
You put so much heart into what you do and it's fascinating to see the knowledge, intuition and experience needed to create and keep habitats like this. Such a lot of work.
Tanner, I am so touched by how much the death of the ghost knife broke your heart. Lots of people in the hobby treat fish as disposable and cheap pets. I had an idea- what If you made a dope aquascape large tank, and then went around to fish stores and looked for fish that needed special care. I have seen tons of deformed and malnourished fish at my local stores that people didn’t take good care of. If anyone could give them an amazing home, it would be you.
You made me laugh out loud at 4:35 when you were heart broken for the fish! Thanks! - - Starting my own terrarium today, after watching your channel :-)
Sorry to hear about the black ghost knife fish. They are magnificent creatures and I've always been tempted to get one, but I know I couldn't provide a big enough home for them. Maybe some day. The tank is looking beautiful, Tanner. Well done with all the healthy plants and fish. Take care.

That is a zoo I'd travel and pay phat money to visit, where's a billionaire to invest a neat idea when you need one?!
Airboat tour through Serpa Zoo sounds incredible
That's a really creative idea. A whole zoo that is a a massive paludarium that you can be inside of.
5:00 Concern for the unwanted fish. You have a beautiful heart. Plus amazing talent in creating beauty. Thanks for video.👍🏻
I can see your passion for these animals, and I thank you.
I like that you are honest with your failures as well as your successes.
You put your heart and soul into these beautiful displays of plants and animals so it makes sense that you would be disappointed when you have a loss,
But,hey, there is so much here to enjoy and “wow” over.
Thanks so much!
I'd love to see you use an elephant nose fish on one of your projects. I had one in my youth and it was surprisingly people friendly. Would come up and rub against my fingers whenever I was near the tank.
The genuine joy and care for your animals is great to watch!
I almost rehomed my crested gecko and I was really proud of myself but dude, your skill is mad!
Thanks!
So happy you got Maxwell I think he’s a lovely addition to the paludarium
love these type of ,,realtalk videos" 👍
That paludarium is so beautiful, it looks like a slice of nature. Keep up the great work please!!
Lots of love from Nova Scotia Canada 🇨🇦
I love this guy so much : he’s easy to watch and fascinating to listen to with his warm velvety voice - He fascinates me , Yeah I love this guy he’s taught me so much about his hobby .
I’m so glad your fish had babies…I love to see life flourish 🥰
I appreciate you and your videos so much! You are so creative and thoughtful with your designs and it is amazing that you put so much energy into sharing all of it with us.
Thank you so much for your transparency and generosity!
Also mealy bugs and fish loss are the worst!
this has been an incredible tank, love the care you show to the things you do
Looks so good dude happy to see you progress over the years my man
It's sad when something goes wrong.
You have a tender heart and you invest time and effort into to your fish.
you can really tell how much he cares for each fish 🥰 warms my heart watching these videos thank you 🙏🏼 ❤
My favorite tank! The new additions really make it pop!
I'm sorry for your loss.
It is really great that you show the good and bad parts of the hobby honestly.
A really nice tank man!
Beautiful! I appreciate your compassion towards fish. I’m the same way. It broke MY heart to see that footage.
I can't tell you how much I'm glad I found your channel. Its so relaxing and informative too. Thanks
"To be clear, I did not tell them who I was"!......, I love ❤ it Tanner, I've never heard you ego-blast yourself in the slightest. I like it, well deserved & overdue mate.
Love your kindness towards your animals
You are obviously such a kind hearted person. Even though I don't keep any kind of "arium", I will definitely keep watching your videos
You're so kind , loving man 🫠. I am obsessed watching your videos.
Anyone else notice how soothing his voice is? Isn’t it perfect? He has the voice for media and production 100 %
This is got to be my favorite of all your tanks. Sorry to hear about your loss.
Thisis the first video of yours I watched and it really opened my eyes to the wonderful world of terrariums. Thank you.
wow i can't believe its been a year already! i remember it like it was yesterday waiting for you to finish building this beast! great job mate its looking amazing still
Dude that tank is Amazing!!!!! Best part is the dimly lite water with rays of light coming through. Reminds me of one of the best show tanks at an aquarium!!!! So peaceful so beautiful so cool! Love your tanks man!
we used to have tanks, now we just watch your channel. you are a Master.
This has to be coolest aquarium I have ever seen. Mad respect from East Oakland Aquatics.
This is one of the most beautiful creations i have ever seen in my life
That footage of them feeding… youve inspired me so much
I'm so sorry about the loss of your black ghost knifefish ☹️ you're one of the few people that I've ever even heard mention them, as soon as I seen one the first time it instantly became my favorite fish, and a bucket list fish for me as well. I currently have no fish tank, I hope to change that soon, but I do have a crested gecko, and alot of my inspiration for the tank I'm beginning to work on has come from you. I think you do a really amazing job with all your projects, plants and pets for sure. I honestly don't think it was anything you did, you take very good care of that tank from what I saw in the video. keep up the good work 🥰
This was an excellent watch. It's great to see someone care for their fish so much.
Omg - gorgeous fresh water tank! I’m so inspired.
I really admire your skill. You only get that through extensive experience. Books and videos can't compete!
You put so much heart into what you do and it's fascinating to see the knowledge, intuition and experience needed to create and keep habitats like this. Such a lot of work.
It´s been a year already? That´s crazy! It looks even more beautiful and awesome now.
That tank is amazing, especially the variety of fish added.
You have such a good soul. It's obvious you really care about your fish.
There is not much further step forward towards nature! Great job
I absolutely LOVE this tank, and cannot wait to make a giant paludarium!
Sorry to hear about the black ghost knife fish. They are magnificent creatures and I've always been tempted to get one, but I know I couldn't provide a big enough home for them. Maybe some day. The tank is looking beautiful, Tanner. Well done with all the healthy plants and fish. Take care.
One of the best channels on RUclips. Superb!
