When the original Maglev link between Birmingham International Airport and Birmingham International railway station was created arrivals were on the first floor (to Americans: the second floor - we start from zero in Europe) - the same level as the Maglev link. It meant that arrival and transfer to the railway was a simple manoeuvre. Since the Eurohub extension, and multiple modifications, arrivals are now on the ground floor, and you have to go up an escalator to get to the link (now no longer Maglev). It is not well signed. As a resident of Birmingham I apologise to you about Birmingham New Street Station - it is one of the worst in the UK. But at least it has a giant bull, with no shit.
Mate this has put it in context about all you've experienced in the few days before me met at Hereford train station! Love how you're just going with the flow and enjoying the ride. The UK can be an infuriating place (this is probably why I wild camp away from towns and people given the chance) but it does have its moments. I hope you leave with a few of those moments at least!
