Again, Nokturnus is the only monster who drops Liquid Metal Mind. If ANYONE really feels they need to go 100% with vocations... I recommend at least quick-saving in that tiny room southeast of where you confront Nokturnus so that if you don't get it, you don't have to go ALL the way through the second half of the dungeon again.
Yes! Finally caught up. I really just wanna say thank you HCBailly for doing this game. This was my least favourite Dragon Quest game having only played it once and not really understanding the intricacies to the job system( played this blind not knowing there'd be a job system and just grinded a whole bunch before (both) murdaw fight(s), so I never got job experience for a long time; who knew there'd be area level caps). But thanks to your playthrough this really has risen up to be one of my favourites, what with all the different strategies you could use! Just had to play along after your low level murdaw... So once again thanks a bunch!
I find it so funny when he beats on Mortamor. I found Nokturnus pretty easy too, because I just had Ashlynn spam multiheal with the duplic hat (so it repeats for free) while everyone else just spams gigaslash. Did it around level 50 granted so your levels are way more impressive. I'm bummed out it doesn't really change the game's ending all too much besides for Terry but whatever, it's a fun way to end what is in my opinion one of the best DQ games.
Terry must have a death wish, taking on Nokturnus all by himself! I had a rough time taking him on with FOUR characters in Dragon Quest Heroes! Nokturnus is NO pushover, and neither is Zoma! Glad to have watched this LP all the way through! See y'all next Let's Play!

Well, I remember defeating Nockturnus in more than 20 turns won't trigger the special end, but it'll get the chance to get Liquid Metal Mind to train the Liquid Metal Slime job/vocation to all of the party members.
I second this, I feel the deep customization available and the multiple strategies you can take to beat the games would be perfect for HCBailey, not to mention the usefulness of support and status moves.

My party was Lizzie ,The main character, Terry and the healslime Healie. I could beat him because I was easily level 60 + just doing it fast was the hard part.

Anyone can unlock it, but they have to master Gladiator, Sage, Ranger, & Luminary. Rex is the exception, where he only has to master one of those four to unlock Hero.
HCBailly, are you going to play Dragon Quest VII for the 3DS? (Seriously I doubt you'll ever want to LP it unless you want a job that can take two years. X_X)

Which attack is still a problem? With sufficient physical defense, you should be able to survive anything he does, and with LMS mastered for Carver, he's immune to all elemental damage.

It also happens in one of the Tales games, where you win a cameo battle and they go beat the final boss while your party relaxes.

So glad Zoma appears as a superboss in DQ Heroes. I heard Malroth will also appear in the Switch version, as well as Ragnar as a party member.

Basically, mastering Liquid Metal Slime, turns you INTO a Metal Slime as far as defenses and resistances go. From what I understand.

If you keep beating Nokturnus it's only really for the purpose of farming more liquid metal scrolls for the final hidden class.

I think it's considered magical, though Rex can't equip the Duplic Hat. You'd have to grind someone else who can equip it, to check it out.
It duplicates spells, not skills. Gigaslash is a skill.
How did u managed to make nokturns not deal damaged to you party,I did forbearance with carver(on the slime vocation) but still...
