Offroad riding on your dual sport is probably why you bought one in the first place, dual sports are great on the road but when you get in the dirt is when you really feel alive. There are some tricks to train yourself for better offroad riding and make sure you don't do this while offroad? What you might ask the answer may surprise you but going slow is actually more dangerous than going at speed! Now I know what you might be thinking going fast offroad is dangerous! yes it is too much speed is but controlled speed is safer than going very slow. Today is about momentum offroad so that you can clear technical stuff like rocks, ruts, sand, etc. all these things you can do slow but it will take you longer and have you out of control more than a controlled speed. So todays tip is to carry momentum offorad in the challenging stuff and standing while you do it. New riders especially need to work on this so that they can be better off road riders and enjoy the offroad time when they do it.

Possibly going to get a private lesson from Graham Jarvis soon. For being a moderator in our huge Facebook dual sport club. We just gave away a 2021 ktm500exc-f. With goodies on it. But good advice. Love those cross training vids.
One thing that stuck with me when I started riding when I was six years old is every time my dad would see me flail my legs he would call me crazy legs and get on me about it. I think the single most important thing for a new Rider to get used to is fighting the urge to constantly want to instruct your bike with your feet. Closely followed by look where you want to go not what you're trying to avoid.
Great comment !!!!
Great Tip Joe! Momentum is the key to control, stability and balance. There is a physics lesson in there somewhere but you know what I am referring to. When in doubt, power out!
Cheers!
😬
Joe - Another "good'n".... Sorry to get long winded, but some "OBI-WAN" riding techniques.
Standing: Unless fairly smooth, YES !!!! Stand Up (knees slightly bent of course) - "additional shock absorbers" - taking the "shock" AWAY from your back !!!
Feet: (standing or sitting) ALWAYS - the balls of your feet on the foot pegs "unless" braking or shifting....- THEN BACK ON THE BALLS OF YOUR FEET "PERIOD"....
Fairly Level or heading Downhill: In loose stuff, sand, rocks, mud, etc. I like my weight more towards the back (more weight on the rear wheel = traction) & let the front end float a little more. Depending on what you are riding through - if your momentum (energy) is good / plenty - you may not need additional throttle at all. Sometimes I just coast (float) through it.
Uphill: I like my weight more forward, a real good amount of momentum - and constant throttle usually does the job, but you have to be ready to "roll it on" wayyyyy before it's too late - if you know what I mean.... REMEMBER - LEAN FORWARD -OR YOU HAVE A GOOD CHANCE OF FLIPPING OVER BACKWARDS !!!!!!
Can't remember where I heard it, but something along the lines of "When in doubt, Power the fuck out".... C'MON..... (something like that LOL) :-)
Cheers Mate !
Yup!
You also need the "watch for the best line" where you dont need your hole power of your body and of your bike.even sit on and walk through though obstacles if it "works for you" even the topp riders "sit on bike and walk through if the spot is realy rocky or pretty steep " . Dont overpower your self or your bike ,cool down and think a minute for the best line. Even if you stuck think about whats the easyiest way to get out with less of your physical power and tire spinning. If you trained offroad riding you get the experience for the best line for your bike and your fitness.
